Partition question - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

I had my nook repartitioned at the store to 5.5/7.5GB.
I have a 16GB SD Card in the slot.
So it would appear that is EMMC of 5.5GB and sdcard1 is my 16GB card. There is a usbdisk0 entry though but when I go into the folder it's empty. I tried copying a video into /mnt/usbdisk0 but it failed. Maybe that's a shortcut for USB OTG?
I also hopped into the terminal and ran a df -0 which returned nothing. So I tried to cd /mnt/usbdisk0 and received a permission denied response. I then ran su inside the terminal followed again by cd /mnt/usbdisk0 which let me in. Then I tried a very simple touch test.fil command. No file was created even with root permissions.
Anyway where is my 7.5GB partition and how do I use it?

If you browse the root file-system with a File Manager (e.g., like ES File Manager) with root permission, your internal user storage should appear mounted as /emmc or /mnt/emmc.

Yes. /mnt/emmc is my 5.5GB partition.
I am trying to find the 7.5GB partition so I can use it.

Depending how your storage is set up in CM10 the Tablet is either acting as a WMTP device or you'll get prompt to enable USB storage or something along those lines when you connect it to your computer. Either way, it will show your 8GB partition as My Nook.
Edit: mnt /emmc really should be your 8GB partition!

Your SD card storage should show up as /sdcard and /mnt/sdcard.

SD card accessibility

At some point in time, probably when the nand was released for HD2 (I had one), we had to use a tool to format our SD card, I think to ext4. Eversince that my SD card was accessible to the HD2 & then the Evo 3D afterwards. Today after I got my Galaxy S III, it is unable to access part of the SD card, although in settings it shows the actual capacity utilized on the SD card.
Is there a way to fix that, considering the SD card stopped being read by the PC after the reformatting to ext4 sometime back ?
Does your SDcard have one or multiple partitions?
What do you mean by 'parts of'. Are there files/folders you cannot access, is something missing, ... ?
The S3 should have no issues in mounting and using EXT4 filesystems since it's internal storage is using the same FS.
Btw there are tools to at least read EXT4 filesystems under Windows (but none I know of to actually use read-write mode, sadly)
duh
I guess he might want to keep the contents =)

I installed ES File Explorer & it only shows the folders that were created by ICS. All my other content is not shown at all. If there is a way I can access the SD on the PC, move all its content then format the SD to FAT32 & move them back. This will solve the problem.
now I have got it. I am an A...hole
I did not notice the phone has internal SD like my pad, as my Evo 3D did not have. So what I was seeing was its internal SD. When I enabled root view in ES explorer, I was able to see 'ext SDCard'. The other thing is, my SD Card got read on my PC. Maybe cause it is Win 7 now. Earlier, Win XP did not read it.

external_sd fix?

Is there a way to fix internal sd pointer to sd card?
I tried terminal,
ln -s /mnt/emmc external_sd
But all i get is "operation not permitted". Is there another way to get a symbolic link on my internal sd pointing to external sd?
I use airdroid for transferring data from pc, but won't pick up external sd so it's kind of a pain sometimes.

Emmc should be the internal SD, and /mnt/sdcard is the external. No fix needed

Except that in my phone is exactly the opposite. Going to /mnt/sdcard goes to my internal and /mnt/emmc shows the contents of my external card.

I believe you would have to recompile the kernel to change that. Or install a different kernel. What firmware are you running?

I was wondering if cm9 had changed it back, I wasn't sure. Either way that's how it is supposed to be in cm9

Did you try running the command as root? If all else fails, Directory Bind should do the trick for you in creating the symlink.
Although I'm not sure if the computer will pick it up via the symlink either if it doesn't see it in the first place. Have you tried to mount USB storage while in recovery?

[Q] AOKP system can't read external storage

Sorry to repost this question, but I've been banging my head over it for too long! I can access both the internal and external storage through file browsers, but the Android system/apps can't seem to access the external storage. Tried this on CM10, AOKP 10-11, and now AOKP 10-17. Even tried changing from Joker's recovery to TWRP, thinking it had to do with the formatting/mounting. I've tried both SD and EMMC as primary in Option's chooser. Nothing works...
At one pont when going from CM9 to CM10/AOKP I did format /emmc... could that have done something? Also, I notice the new JB mounts the cards to /storage/sdcard0 or sdcard1. If I look in the /mounts folder I see /sdcard (which right now maps to my internal) but no /emmc or any other link to the external storage. Also, when I look in settings-storage, I see the system, "sdcard" (which is internal right now), and "internal storage" (which is my external), but only the first two have details on what types of files (apps/music/pictures/etc). The last partition (my external) is all grey
I've deleted all the .nomedia files, cleared app data in gallery/music/media storage... help!
The storage which u use as a main is called sdcard0 and other well called 1 u should find them in /storage folder not the mount

[Q] SD card mounting as sdcard1 instead of sdcard0, Apps don't recognize SD card

After updating to a new ROM (revolt), my SD card is mounting as "sdcard1" instead of "sdcard0" (according to the file manager). The problem is that apps don't recognize that an SD card exists. When I open the camera, for example, it immediately quits saying that there is no storage and I should insert an SD card. Many other apps respond the same way.
What can I do to either get my SD card back to mounting as sdcard0 or change where apps look for an SD card?
Thanks!

Actually, the Rezound default is sdcard0 is internal storage and sdcard1 is the external card. I am not familiar with that ROM but some JellyBean ROMs switched them (not purposely, it was a JB thing). But if you are using the stuff included with the ROM it should all work, you could also look at the symbolic link for /sdcard and see if it is pointing to /storage/sdcard0 or /storage/sdcard1 (might be to /mnt/xxx instead of storage), the exact and switch it there.
Are you restoring apps with TiBu or something similar, this layout may be different than the backed up one, you might need to reinstall everything from the Play Store to get it work properly, the ROM should be OK itself.
Yeah, anything 4.3 based has the cards switched.

Thanks for the replies.
Both apps that came with the ROM (i.e. the built in camera app) and apps from the play store have trouble finding the SD card. This is where the symlinks point:
Code:
[email protected]:/ $ ls -l | grep sdcard
lrwxrwxrwx root root 2014-01-03 14:31 external_sd -> /storage/sdcard1
lrwxrwxrwx root root 2014-01-03 14:31 sdcard -> /storage/sdcard0
d---r-x--- root sdcard_r 2014-01-03 14:31 storage
Is this correct or should they be switched?
Maybe I should just find another ROM...

It looks correct... I would try Tachyon or LiquidSmooth and see if you still have issues.

I just switched over to Tachyon. Still having the same trouble. Built in camera app says no external storage available and crashes... Are there any other possible causes? I've checked that the microsd card is properly seated in its spot...
By the way, under Settings > Storage, I can see the SD card including it's capacity and free space. I can also successfully unmount and remount the SD card from there. Still doesn't help with the apps, though.
Thanks!

What about the internal storage, does it show up in Storage twice? In JB ROMs there should be a section in Settings->Storage at the top labeled "Internal Storage" 2.34GB (this is where apps go when installed), then a little farther down "SD Card" xx.xxGB depending on card size (this is the external SD), then farther down yet there is another section labeled "Internal Storage" 10.48GB (this is the actual internal storage or sdcard0).
If not, you lost your internal storage, try reformatting it in recovery, reformatting in Windows Disk Manager, or repartition the internal storage with CWM/TWRP... last resort, run an official RUU (the exe version, not the flashable ZIP ones).

Ahh... that would seem to be the problem. Or at least a problem.
I'm not sure how to fix it, though. TWRP says it can't mount the internal storage (and, thus, cannot wipe it). How else can I go about wiping it?
Thanks again for all the help!
In these situations i start from scratch. Lol. But that's just me.

I don't mind starting from scratch. I don't have anything important on my SD card that isn't backed up. I'm not sure how to go about wiping the SD card, though. Neither Android nor TWRP recognizes the SD card, so I can't wipe it. Do I need to switch to a different recovery or something?
Thanks again!

[Q] Upgrade to CM11 and can't access extSdCard

i9300
I've upgraded to CM11 (full wipe and format) and I am unable to access my extSdCard from the phone. I have no problems access the SD Card from an adaptor in the PC.
Es Explorer can read, but cannot write.
in CM11 storage menu, I click on erase SD card, but it still don't have full permission to it. However I am able to create folder in root browser.
I've tried chkdsk and sd card has no errors.
http://www.technohunk.com/2013/02/how-to-execute-a-command-at-boot-android/
I tried to follow this, but it says invalid mount argument
su
mount -o bind /mnt/extSdCard /sdcard/external_sd
I've created this folder (/sdcard/external_sd )

I had similar problem after I rooted and installed TWRP and when I used Link2SD app it kept complaining that it could not mount the 2nd partition of the SD card I tried formating a few times using
Minitool on my PC and a card reader to attach the micro SD card.
I ended up creating partitions then running option wipe in Minitool using 1's then fomating 1st partition to FAT32 primary and 2nd partition to ext4 primary (I had already tried formating to ext2 & ext3 with no fix) I did not enter a lable name for either of the partitions, both partitions set to primary.
Note also that I ran Minitool surface scan on both partitions and reported no errors, thought I would do this before I installed SD back in to my phone.
On completion of the above I installed the SD card in to my phone ran Link2SD and it recognised the second partition and mounted with no errors and when I look at storage in Link2SD both partitions
are seen and I am now able to link apps to second partition with no errors.
Hope the above helps in some way, I am learning all the time thanks to XDA members.

As an idea: Check your "platform.xml" if write permissions are given. See here.
I think the problem lies at recovery. I suggest flashing an older official cwm recovery from the official website. Since i did that ive had no mounting issues at all.
When i first rooted my s3 i flashed twrp and had issues with preload, same with a later cwm.
