There are many porters and rom cooks but unfortunately, no one has ventured into the MTK territory yet.
I, myself, own a Jiayu G3 with a mtk 6577 chipset and I have been pleading and begging the developers.
We are one of the first pioneers who have entered the territory.
It is always the case when you are courageous and ahead of the rest, you have to wait for 'others' to catch up!
I will keep you posted on any progress, please keep asking and searching. Don't give up!

Hello,
I am Also using a MTK 6577 based phone and want to update it to Jelly bean, but seems currently most Rom customizers are working on
other models and are not giving time to this chipset.
Can someone please post what exact would be needed to have jelly bean for these phones.
Phone specs on most such devices are
1Ghz dual core CPU
512MB RAM
512MB ROM
5 Inch LCD
5MP Back and VGA Front Camera
Dual SIM
3G on 1st SIM, 2G on 2nd SIM
Wifi
light sensor, accelerometer, magnetic sensor
2000-2300 mAh battery
Currently Running ICS
I can post the build.prop if someone wants to examine.
Many thanks for your time.

Might want to recheck the OS requirements. I think you will find you are a few hundred mbs of ram short. Not to mention a lot more storage.

Yups I realized that earlier but today found the phone is already having JB Released and Running which is officially provided by manufacturer.
Yet to schedule the upgrade at service center as its not a OTA update yet.

Its most likely gonna be a highly stripped down version of it. Other wise it wouldn't run properly

Have a look at my rom thread and find the comment with the custom rom. Phone is mtk6577 1gb rom 1gb ram, 4.1.1 jb stock, 5mp cam, vga front cam qHD 4.5" screen

Ya I can imagine that, lets see if it can solve the few bugs, then I can live with it or customize the Rom to give day 2 day useability

Ok another post, I see you have lower specs than my device. If you know the basics of porting that shouldnt really be a problem, it;s quite easy. I just ported the stock rom from Jiayu g2 to my acer liquid E1. that is from 4.1.2 > 4.2.2, with just the basics of opening 2 zip files, dragging and dropping some files, and you're done. See if you can find an mtk device which has almost the same specs as yours, and go to www.needrom.com look for some roms, download it, and just try. That's what I'm doing, and so far, I made the worlds first, and third custom rom for my device....so don't give up like alot of ppl tell you!!!! Just don't
If you need any help, please PM me

Just make sure to post all kernel source code for any roms you post links to.

Thanks for your headsup.:good::good:

I have never heard of rom cooker, but it sounds like sonething I'm going to try very soon. I just took 2 roms and moved some stuff from base to port zip file + edited build prop, that's it. Is not at all functional rom but it's a start =D

This is really a great device. Amazing price-quality ratio. I just bought one as a second phone and I'm very happy with it.
Performance is comparable to Samsung Galaxy S+ but with a nice 4.3 screen.
And Alcatel has promised an ICS update so fingers crossed.
@ whigga: yeah, it's really a great device with such cheap price. it's a steal!
hopefully devs can look into this phone. it's something like LG Optimus X2 of some sort.
Available here now for $280
I really like the 4.3" over my 4.1" phones,
Strange they made no 850MHz 3G units for countries that have the stronger frequency like Australia, USA, Thailand, China etc... for those that dont know 850MHz can penetrate into buildings to allow better indoor reception.
Just like to bump this thread. Any update of development?
Heey guys!
I just bought this phone 2 days ago, after my Galaxy Gio died 1,5 week ago.
I'm very happy to hear there are more satisfied users of the OT-995 who want a custom rom and XDA thread
Let's hope a good developer will also get this beautifull device!
By the way: does someone know a good way to root the Alcatel OT-995?
@ markvann: that remains the question. I still got an unrooted OT-995. tried those rooting procs, nothing works atm.

Hello Petalotis!
I just looked, and it seems there is not 512mb ram. It's exactly the same as it is with Xperia Neo V I guess, because my telephone says there's something like 370 mb ram. Normally I'm a heavy device user (except for my last one, the Galaxy Gio), but I have to say this smartphone can handle all the apps I want. I'm really happy with it, and on Quadrant Standard benchmark it even scores better than Galaxy Nexus (and on Antutu they have around the same amount of points). So I hope you don't get fooled by the 'not-so-high' amount of ram, and that you can participate in searching for OT-995 root methodes and ROMs!

I want to buy a new Android phone and this one catch my attention, i have a ZTE Blade and want to upgrade .
The launch of this phone in my country (Portugal) will be in 7 of May with the name of "Optimus Madrid" and the price maybe would be €229,90, i was searching here if anyone begun to developing custom roms to him, will be an asset.
+1 for development of this device
also I would ask the people who bought this device if they try to connect mouse or keyboard in mini usb gate ?
already seen a guide to do this in galaxy s (in this forum). Hub must accept external power because there isnt enough power in mini usb
is it possible that this works ? can you try to connect keyboard and mouse in hub or a usb flash
i would appreciate that
thank you very much
I also have the alcatel ot-995.
I''ve tried things like superonclick and z4root.
Is there any possible way to root my phone or do I just have to wait for a new rooting way.
Hello! I just bought is phone people , has as nice price!!!
And I hope someone considering spend some time to make the root possible!!

This phone is perfectly capable of making 3g video calls. At least it works in Holland, where I live. Do realize that this functionality also depends on your network provider if they allow it.

Yeah, you're right! Software implementation is defenitely not as good as the hardware should allow it to be. Processor and ram are more than capable, but still there is lag where similar speced phones have none. Hopefully the promised ICS upgrade will fix this or otherwise hoping for some good 'ol custom rom development.
OT995 Potentials
I'm a freak of speed for low cost and the alcatel OT995 will definetly be
my next one!
Hopefully does developers see the potentials of this low budget device,
and make a masterpiece ready to challenge with high-end non-price-quality
phones!
I keep fingers crossed, once a project gets started, I buy one !

From what I've heard, I believe the G1 is receiving the JB update and that's the 1st ever android device so from that, I've concluded you don't need any kind of serious hardware for the update. I could be totally wrong though so take it for what it is... an assumption. But I'm pretty sure updates for specific devices are decided by the manufacturer based on what they feel like maintaining and what they don't. I'm sure if you checked you devices manufacturer's website, it will tell you if you're device will receive it.

In the sense, you are totally wrong if you mean a stock ROM. The g1 may have a custom jellybean ROM, but I hear no jellybean update at all. And also, few phones will be receiving official jellybean, such as the galaxy s 3 or maybe the gs2.

-MSM8255 or Hummingbird
-512 MB RAM
-1 GB Internal Storage

And yes, ICS and JB system requirements are the same.

Yes, I believe you're correct. MSM8255 should be the bare minimum to update to ICS or JB, I don't think Hummingbird should be for JB, because the Galaxy S isn't getting updated to ICS. Even though phones below this requirement, there will always be ROMs that you can install

[Q] Jelly Bean Specs

So I was wondering about Android Jelly Bean, here are my phone specs:
512 MB ROM
256 MB RAM
CPU MTK6573 650MHz+ARM116-507MHz
Android 2.3.4
if there is anything more you need to know, I will reply, since i can't post outside links.
Now what i wanted to know is if my phone could support Android Jelly Bean, if it can, how can I install it.
I really hope that answers won't be something like "I don't know" or "you can't install it"
If anyone can help me, please do. Much appreciated.

Well... you can... as long as your device has a custom rom that run based on CM10... and a swap partition with at least 512 MB ram.
LG gt540 has the same specs and it can run ICS (dunno about JB).

If you're phones not popular enough chances are you won't be able to get jelly bean, purely because no developers have made a ROM for it.

I thought considering that one android version can be installed on all sorts of phones the specs of my phone would be enough, since it doesn't have a company manufacturer (samsung, lg, etc.) but a Chinese phone. If they can install Android operating systems on other Chinese phones, I'm sure that there is a way for me to install another Android on my phone.
On a computer, when you install an OS, you don't look for manufacturers and developers, you look for hardware specifications. You can't install Windows 8 on a Pentium III and expect it to run smoothly, instead you put Windows 95.
The problem is I don't know whether JB is Win 8 or Win 95 and will my phone support it.
It all depends whether someone port jellybean to your device.
BTW which device do you own

CM10 is a custom after market firmware based on Android 4.1 It's basically JB with a lot of features and improvements. You can check if anyone has made it by using Google. Also it doesn't matter what company made the phone, but if no developer made a custom JB ROM for it then you're out of luck. With Android it's a bit different than with computers as far as OS installation goes. And for your swap question, the windows counterpart would be Page file.

When you install Windows on a PC you have access to multiple drivers (even generic ones) for all the hardware that comprises the PC, no driver then that piece of hardware won't function. An Android build includes the necessary "drivers" for a specific device so you need a build built specifically for your device for everything to work.
Your phone, by looking at specs would not support Jelly Bean. The processor isn't fast enough to run it very smooth in my opinion. As said before, swap partition (windows page file) would fix the RAM issue because JB would never be able to run on only 256MB. Look around on Google for a ROM for your phone but honestly, the most I see your phone running smoothly and without problem based off its specs is Gingerbread and MAYBE Honeycomb but that's it.

The specs aren't that bad to be honest. Its a dual core/CPU phone and there are single core 600MHz phones running ICS just fine.
RAM is definitely and issue although even with 256MB it should run okay provided you don't use too many apps. My old X8 runs ICS and JB decently with only 192MB usable RAM. And Thad bit about honeycomb is irrelevant seeing as its a tablet OS.
Have a look around on the Chinese forums, there should be a ROM lying around or at least instructions on how to root

Also it's impossible to run a Honeycomb ROM simply because there aren't any. Google never released the source for it.

No it got released along with ICS. One of our devs even managed to make a honeycomb ROM for the X8 lol.

Android aint like a pc you that can install any os. Android phones need os like ics or jellybean to be made by the phone manufacturer. If there's a dev for it, it can make a custom one like cm10,aokp, or muie, by hacking it, to run all hardware in phone.
Technically the stock honeycomb version is a ROM. Also, I know it's a tablet OS but I'm saying from a hardware specification perspective it would run it. And as said, source was released.

The jelly bean o/s

PLEASE KEEP TO TOPIC
This thread is about the actual functionality of the New Jelly Bean update for the Desire X
and not whether you have it or not. Thats discussed on other threads.
I have come from Froyo on the Wildfire to the DX with ICS...well i can still do all what i have done in the past, but much better.
What improvements will JB bring to the DX. Can some one explain what we should see.
I have seen some one already explain, but it would be nice to get another point of view.
Some have issues and some dont, it confusing for us noobs:silly:
What is the hype behind it.
The reason why i am concerned is that some guys want to revert back to ICS, and thats not what it should be. JB should be an improvement.
lastly, the few hicups people have with the latest JB, could it be to an app or user related issue.

Same as you I have came from Froyo to Jelly Bean itself first of all the update was great Speed improvements were there (example is scrolling wallpapers in personalize its feels like the HTC One. Second the new software We all know Beats audio got screwed up by the OTA but HTC fixed it with anothe OTA and now bass is back This Update also enables us to test new software and to discover new things with Sense 4+ and also a feel of Jelly Bean, remember not all devices could get an update from their own manufacturers so were lucky enough to get this lol now we just need to deodex the stock JB ROM and custom ROMs would be all over the forum (I could do one now just no time to deodex the JB Stock ROM).
Wow, this is a positive post. Positive info that i expected.

Jelly bean is the LATEST android OS (although 4.2 > 4.1) but still, the CURRENT SUPER PHONE (HTC ONE) which gives Galaxy IV a scare, was also on 4.1.2 and will get 4.2.2 in a few days. So technically, after JB update, we are having one of the most updated devices around for such money.
Think again what happens to similarly priced samsung n sony phones, (believe me, most are stuck at ICS officially forever).
ON-TOPIC:
JB Sense4+ might not be what you expect, BUT the kernel source code, and libs will enable atis112 and others to port FULLY WORKING CM10 ROMS with Project Butter.
We'll soon get kernel 3.4 source which will be a platform for YEARS to come and keep this device alive. believe me.
My cousins with xperia U/sola, galaxy duos, etc will be stuck @ ICS officially.
Regards
Yasir

Yasir, thankyou for your post, it does give me confidence going forward.
Although i dont understand your last sentence, but it does sound good any way.
I said yesterday that Jelly bean is not so cool..i was stupid, its f....n awesome. Its faster than ICS, web browser and downaloading too. Right now my download speed is 2,5mb/s. With ICS it was hardly reach 1mb/s. Google Now is really good, i can search the nearest restaurent with my voice and it supports hungarian so its good for those who dont speak english (like me )

I'd like to say something on this thing since Yasir already mentioned it(sorry op kind of off-topic)
the 3.4 kernel is actually very exciting because currently barring HTC jb devices this is present on only the latest nexus devices(4, 10) only even nexus 7 is on 3.1 and Samsung devices(yes even s3) is on 3.0 .Thus we are currently on the latest version (officially not true android on 3.8 but we are one of the top few and latest currently) . Also this proves that HTC put a lot of effort (yeah was a Samsung Guy so I know what I'm talking about) thus according to me we should get 4.2 also(surity of about 83%) the real question will be if we get 5.0 or not.
PS I like the stripped down sense.
Htc One X JB kernel : 3.1
Wow, Desire X has a newer kernel, awesome.

All of you are talking about newer kernel, but how will it affect the end user experience? I don't talk about developers, i mean people that buy phone and don't even know about custom ROMs, using stock firmware

You can mock people with high end phones just kidding (although it's true) but don't know the real reason for user who's no developer.

A similar device to moto in terms of specs

Can anyone tell me a similar device to moto e which has almost same specifications (the price be anything) as compared to moto e which has good android development. It may be from Samsung Sony or any company but it should have good android development.
The most important features to get matched are
Screen resolution
Processor
Screen size (it may be 4"-4.5")
Ram
Android 4.4.4
I can easily port roms from that device thats why asking
No one interesred>>> fingers down!!
I like the above POST

Well, only these phones have matching processor : Blu Studio 5.0, Blu Studio 5.3S, Nokia Lumia 530.
However, a lot of phones have 1GB ram as the Moto E.
And, similarly, a lot of phones out there with Screen size from 4"-4.5"
But, only few on Android 4.4.4, I believe. Actually, no one with matching specs above.
And, problem is, the phones having matching processor have no android or no development.
So, I guess, that's unfortunate for us, but that's how it is for now.
But, CM11 sources for our device are there, now.
Can, you refer to them, and maybe see some other phone which has 1GB RAM, android 4.4 and a similar screen size, and make code changes to port it for Moto E ?
