EDIT: I FOUND THE ISSUE: I needed to reformat my SD Card
I have the new zips for the new radios - for some reason hboot isn't recognizing the zip file, and no its not named ".zip.zip" - I'm using a Linux Machine, I checked the md5s and all, they all matched up, I haven't had an issue like this ever before, what's wrong?
And yes it's on the root of the SDcard

There's two sets of zips, one of the zips can't be read by certain versions of HBOOT because of the compression method. I don't have links to the two sets but I'm sure you can find them.

Nahh, he got it installed eventually.
He just needed to reformat his SD card.
Maybe he should update the OP to reflect that.

A longshot
I know it's an older thread but I'm hoping someone can help. I reformatted my SD card, all the tips and tricks I've seen in this section and the development section and still no dice. Should I be doing this via recovery or HBOOT? If via HBOOT, can I do so after installing a ROM or does it still have to be done first.
Thanks

HEY LOKI
I AM "NOT" RESPONSIBLE IF YOU MESS UP YOUR DEVICE FROM FAILURE TO READ INSTRUCTIONS.
there is a fix
what you want to do is follow these instructions to downgrade your htc thunderbolt to a firmware that can be S-OFF, i should say.
the reason behind why this wont work is because you are probably s-on and HTC is rejecting your file. Kinda like Read/Write.
Basically you need to be S-OFF.
here is the link to the post:
www[dot]androidforums[dot]com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/689221-how-downgrade-root-ics[dot]html
this link contains all of the information you need to achieve your goal.

How do I upgrade my radio?
I have been following DCD's wonderful (thank you so much), ROMs and just installed 3.2.2 last night, so I'm not unfamiliar with the process. Then I realized that I was on an old radio. So I tried to upgrade. Here are the steps I followed.
1. Downloaded the latest radio (3.42.15 ?) nbh file.
2. Placed the nbh file in the RUU folder of the 3.2.2 kitchen.
3. Ran the RomUpdateUtility.exe that was in that folder.
It looked like it was pushing it to my phone when.....
I got an error after the phone said about 4 or 5%.
I'm sorry for the lame-o-nubie-like question. I really thought I understood this process.
What am I missing?
Thanks for your patience.
Matt
Upgrade radio by placing radio .nbh file on sd card and renaming TITAIMG.nbh, force bootloader and press power to install. You will not hard reset your phone by doing this method but you will by using RUU.

FYI: if you use this method, I'm pretty sure the SD card has to be FAT32 formatted.

True, I didn't cover that but there is much I didn't want to have to cover in my quick response. Make sure to read the wiki here for full instructions on formatting and flashing.
Edit: He did say he read the wiki, but as a counterpoint he tried to paste the nbh file into the RUU. Rule of thumb is to always follow the wiki to the letter for best results.
i don't mind hard resetting...in fact....I prefer it.
are there any instrctions for using the RUU?

Hi sudermatt,
Almost all 3.xx radios are having problems flashing via RUU. Bite the bullet and pick up an SD card it will be well worth it.

Hi glenl,
Correct, the Verizon XV6800 does not include an SD card.
can i flash my radio this way using someone else's card (for his Hermes) and it won't disturb anything on the card, and then he can delete my files after?

as long as the card is already formatted properly... otherwise just back up his card's contents and format it appropriately (fat32) if need be. make sure its not a high-capacity MicroSDHC...
You can unlock and install official signed rom that includes radio.
Then overwrite OS custom rom.
i didn't see it anywhere...not in the wiki
So, I've used Revolutionary to S-off and root, but now there's a system update (I assume for the security vulnerability that was found a week or two ago). I'd like to install this update, but it just fails when I try... Does anyone know how to turn it into a flashable zip, or will I have to un-s-off/root, update, then re-s-off/root?
A hotfix for the vulnerability is not out yet - you tought HTC is that fast But if you can find it you can remove /system/app/HtcLoggers.apk from your rooted Flyer (with an app like File Expert that can mount partitions like /system).
Since you are still stock you might have been offered an incremental update, but I guess soon you will want to flash a custom ROM that already includes it anyway.

It appears there's a new update today, and it's only about 4.5 megs - I think HTC may actually be that fast
I really don't want to install a ROM, I just want stock with root (to help with development)... Any suggestions appreciated!
To answer my own question, I downloaded the OTA on the device, then I used adb to copy it to my computer (it's in /sdcard/downloads/). I edited the zip so that it wouldn't flash the recovery (there's a recovery.img in firmware.zip inside the OTA zip - remove it), copied it to the external SD card, then flashed it via ClockworkMod (it won't update via the HTC updater).
Something to make sure of, you MUST be running stock - it patches files rather than reinstalls them, so this will fail if there are any differences. This includes build.prop. You can make any changes you like after flashing of course.
Don't forget to backup before doing anything of course! Another warning, ClockworkMod fails silently if your SD card doesn't have enough room for the backup, so make sure you have plenty of space beforehand too!
Hope this helps someone.

Removing the recovery.img? I've rezipped everything and it's only 510kb now, surely that cant be it?
Recovery.img's are large files it was just a minor updat to probably fix a couple internal things nothing major. It was a small file at 4mb already.

Ok so I'm trying to flash Clean Rom ICS 1/22 version
I did all the steps they said to in the instructions "I also made sure I had no PH files or I made sure I already deleted them"
I keep getting this
Main version is older!
update fail
press <power to rebot>
I then have to take the sd card out, get into recovery, put sd card back in and then USB mount the sd card to erase the ph file that the rom installed..
I'm so frustrated by this.
I was currently running the rom below with a custom kernal

I did the same thing... What I've done is downloaded a few ROMs to my SDcard, but I've edited the .zip before putting them on. I went into the kernel folder, and edited the android-info.txt to match that leaked mainver number. After I saved that file, i went into the PH98IMG.zip and edited the android-info.txt file in there. Now I don't have to worry about getting stuck if I don't have a computer handy to do a fastboot
The next OTA update will fix this big mess, and hopefully we all learn from this lol. I sure have!

Not to flash leaks unless you are a Dev... or very experienced user/rooter/flasher of Android devices?
I haven't seen anyone post this yet but I have an unlocked photon and I downloaded the 2.3.5 update to see the files and where they are placed. I found files placed in /cache
Blur_Version.45.3.6.MB855.Sprint.en.US.crc inside is the number 2792078675
and
Blur_Version.45.3.6.MB855.Sprint.en.US.zip
and
downloadfile.apk
weird thing is that "downloadfile.apk" shows up at 0.0kb and after moving it to sd card it is still 0.0kb. It's completely empty!?
The two Blur files show 0.0kb and they were last updated dec 31 1969 at 7pm. then when you move to sd card the .crc file is 1kb and the .zip file is 127,594kb.
I'll get a change to upload it maybe tomorrow if anyone wants to look at it.
after moving the files to sd card the update reminder stopped popping up and showed an error or something about not being able to update blah blah. I'll try to find out exactly and repost. I was thinking maybe we can trick the phone into thinking something we made is an official update. I'm sure its checked at some level though. I'll dig deeper and any insight regarding this would be appreciated.
If you be so kind, I would love a copy of the update.

I'll try to upload it tonight. I tried editing the update and placing it back in the /cache where I found it and it recognized it and asked me to install it but it tried and rebooted and I got an error. It said it could not install. So I guess there is some md5 or some other check done before the install.
Do not flash this if you are unlocked, it will relock and possibly soft-brick your phone, if relocked you will not be able to unlock again. This is not new, we have had this file for a while.

Yeah -- I got screwed by the OTA update, but I *don't* have the update file. Where does it actually exist other than this OP's offer to upload it? I'll just get it from there. I've searched to no avail for 2.3.5 sbf, photon OTA, and other similar searches -- none come up with the actual download. I must be missing the right search?
Thanks for any info.

i dont really think so... prolly something to do with where recovery stores the backups. 4.1 put the "sd card" at data/media. 4.2 for some reason moved it to data/media/0. when m7 went to 4.2, recovery was still storing backups in the old location,so they appeared to disapear sounds like twrp is still storing them in data/media. you should be able to find them with a root file browser if thats the case. where is the thread? ill have a look ifn i get a minute.

sorry for the short answer earler... limited time at work to cruise forums, since i drive for a living.
anyway, you can flash it just like described for the radio:
-place phone in fastboot, open cmd. file must be in your adb/fastboot working directory
-enter:
fastboot erase cache
fastboto oem rebootRUU (will put you in ruu mode, black screen silver htc letters)
fastboot flash zip zipfilename.zip (will send and flash the file. dont interupt it while the cmd window shows its writinging, and the green status bar is moving on the phone screen)
*sometimes a file will fail with a pre-update error after after flashing hboot, radios or other firmware. this is normal, just enter again:
fastboot flash zip zipfilename.zip
and this time it will finish
-when you get "finished" and "OK"
fastboot reboot-bootloader (takes you back to fastboot. should also rescue you if for some reason the file wont flash)
-reboot back to the OS
fastbooot reboot
most if not all the pretend sd card phones will let you rename the file to xxxxIMG(0P3PIMG.zip in this case) and flash it from a real,FAT32 formated sd card plugged into the phone via an adapter and OTG cable. i personally prefer ruu mode,as it leaves sd card format and proper file name out of the equation, and it will show you exactly at what point the flash fails. not to mention i find it a PITA to move files on and off of an sd card
