After installing Google Play on the Play-less Visual Land Prestige 7L tablet via a script, the tablet now has a functional Play app, but I'm unable to use any SD storage: every time I insert an SD card, a notification says the SD card is now safe to eject. Going into Settings->Storage always crashes and closes the settings instantly, usually with a quick flash of a message that "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped", although once I saw instead a message about android.process.media. I've seen a few posts about that around the 'net, which recommend clearing data and cache for Media Storage, and sometimes a few other apps, but I've tried that. I've even tried going into recovery, wiping the data and cache, and restoring factory. But that doesn't seem to actually reset everything, as some installed apps, and the error, are not system apps and persist after a wipe.
I'm able to connect via adb, but aside from the trace (attached) that happens every time Settings -> Storage is opened, I don't see anything obviously wrong in the filesystem. The error is related to StorageManagement.java and StatFS.
I've tried everything I can think of and was hoping someone could give me a clue what to try next.
Thanks.

Hey there!
I found myself in a small pickle today.
I tried out a few roms on my motorola defy plus, and as of today I have absolultely no space on internal memory, although it is supposed to be 1GB in size.
I'm thinking that this happened, because every time I tried out a new rom, I installed all the applications I use all over again.
I tried clearing the cache, the Dalvik cache from recovery, but it didn't help at all.
In this way I am unable to install any aplications whatsoever, whenever I try to open the Market, the phone hangs for a while and then reboots, actually whatever I do with it, it reboots, for example opening the contact manager, trying to manage the apps and so on.
Any ideas?
Thank you!
Perform a factory reset
before installing new rom.
Thank you for your reply, but unfortunatelly it doesn't work.
Any other ideas?
It really seems odd, because the du -hd1 command from terminal doesn't show what is that big. It shows 2.4 GB, from which the memory card is 2.1 GB located in the /mnt folder.
Is there any way that I can wipe all data from the phone?
AW: [Q] Internal memory 100% full after trying out more ROMs
Cwm has the option to clean up the SD card or under the android settings. Maybe every before and after the flashing process backups of your system?
I THINK U WIPE EVERYTHING using(EXCEPT RECOVERY)
ADT.......
THEN FLASH A NEW ROM
HIT THANKS IF HELPED.....
Hi,
I have galaxy s2 i9100 phone. Internal memory 8 GB, and no external sd card. Its running 4.1.2 jelly bean. official rom. the problem with my phone is that when the phone is restarted i get the " preparing sd card: checking for errors" and it takes a long time to go away. during that time i cant do anything like taking a picture or accessing memory. after that when i goto application manager to clear cache of an app or uninstall an app, no app is showing its size. then after like 10 or more minutes the apps start showing their sizes one by one.
during this time if i click any app to see if i can uninstall the app or clear cache etc i see computing..... infront of everything.
and it takes quite a while to compute. Eventually it is computed and all the sizes cache size is showing but if i click to clear data or clear cache the button appears to be clicked but nothing happens i have to close the application manager and open it after like 10 mins to find out the cache has been cleared. all this is also effecting my phone performance. The apps are very slow. I dont get any facebook or any other notification on time. I get them like an hour late. This didnt use to happen before. The phone is sluggish and often freezes and i have to take out the battery to make it work again.
I did everything i could find. I factory reset it, did wipe all data and even reflashed and factory reset it but all that did was make it work normal for a day or two and then all these problems start again. I searched alot but couldnt find any topic relevant. No body has mentioned this application manager problem etc and phone being slow etc. And many of the posts are about external sd card but i have no external sd card. Could someone please help me.
Running the newest version of beans since the day after it came out. Has been really stable. Until yesterday. The only thing I did yesterday was I downloaded a couple weather apps.
It's pretty easy to trigger. I can trigger it by going into my gmail app and it won't let me read anything because it closes Gmail. I have done it by going into the phone settings screen. It happens in the play store and I also can't download any apps.
I've tried clearing cache/data and force stopping both Media Storage and Download Manager. I have 2.78GB left on internal storage and 5.4 or so on external 16gb sdcard. On the internal the largest directories are Titanium Backup at 1.91GB, airdroid at 1.19 gb (its the beans rom file), Android at 0.98 GB, and DCIM at 145MB. On external the largest are DCIM at 5.00 GB (music folder at 4.7GB), TWRP at 4.36GB (a full system backup), and then Download at 33.03MB.
My first and probably smartest step is to full wipe, reflash, but I really wanted to avoid that. Just wondering if there are any other suggestions.

I tried a cache, delvik, factory reset, and system reset from recovery. Reinstalled alliance/beans, and right from the get go got an error saying "system uids inconsistent" when I booted for the first time, followed by a series of "such and such has stopped working" like gapps and the same error above. As a result I cant use the play store to download my apps either.
I rebooted into recovery and tried to fix the permissions which then failed with this at the end "E: Unable to chmod data/data/com.google.android"
Now im really not sure what to do
One more thing: I wondered if maybe it was my SD card so i unmounted that and removed it. That hasn't done anything.
Also, rebooting takes much longer than usual.
Hi,
I have a Huawei Ascend G6 (U10) and rooted my device with TowelRoot 3.0
When you get a new phone it's custom to first fully charge your device and then let it fully deplete before fully charging it again to make sure you use the full capability of your device's battery. (during this time I rooted my device) Now, while it was at only 3% of battery I was playing a silly game, called Can KnockDown 3. While playing this game, my device turned off due to no battery. After it fully charged again, I tried to run the game again but it got stuck on the initialisation screen.
No big deal, I thought. So, I went on and just un-installed it and tried to re-install it. Problem is, I got Google Play error 492 when I tried to download/install the game once more. So I restarted my device, tried to un-install the Play Store and tried a hard reboot. None of those worked.
After some reading I got to know that I had to install an app called "ROM manager", boot into Recovery Mode and delete the Dalvik Cache (Which was said to be located in "Settings". Now, I don't know much about phones, nor Android. So that proved quite difficult. I went into Recovery Mode but was unable to find the "Settings" tab. So, I wiped Cache and the other setting. Can't quite remember. When I rebooted it, the problem was STILL not solved.
Now, I never noticed the REAL problem because I had my external SD card mounted.
This morning, I wanted to change my profile picture on an app called What's App Messenger. It gave me the following error: "Failed to load image data, please try again later." That really bothered me and after a reboot the problem was still not solved. I quickly realised that all my pictures were on my external SD so I turned off my phone to take it out. Booted it without external SD. Tried to make a picture with my camera, but it said "Internal Sotrage full. Please insert an SD card." but when I went to my filemanager there was NOTING on my internal SD. No maps, nothing. However, in my settings it says that only 1.98 GB of the 4 GGB internal storage is used...
Could someone please help me with this?
try using DiskUsage app, it shows every folder in your phone and how much space they take, also if you have rooted your phone, it shows wich system folders take most of the space (logs and tmp folders, safe to erase)

I appreciate your reply, but I don't think that's the problem. I think my internal SD card is f***ed up now. I've tried wiping it all I want but to no avail. Probably something went wrong with rooting it, or installing ClockWorkMod or something. I don't know.
What I do know is that I need help!
Have you found a solution
I was having a problem with my phone randomly restarting and then after a few weeks it went into a restarting loop. I searched the net and the phone is not rooted so I didn't believe it to be bricked or anything like that. I tried to wipe the cache (not a factory reset) and it didn't work. I figured I would try a new battery and that fixed the problem. Once the new batter was inserted the phone started working fine, however it was like a reset. I had to re-enter google information but all pictures and programs were there. Text but no contacts. When I looked closer at the apps none of the previously installed apps that were moved to the SD card would show. I have read the forums and they said to search for the android/data/data file and delete. I did this on the SD card and the local storage and still get the error. I searched for any and deleted any reference I could find and the apps still won't install. It downloads and gives me the -24 error during install of applicaiton. Aside from a factory reset, any suggestions?
