I have a problem when using vpn (JunosPlus from Juniper networking) I can't seem to get to host names directly. I can access them by using the IP Address, but not with host names.
In Linux I normally edit the /etc/resolve.conf file, but on Jedi_r1 I don't seem to have the file.
Anyone know how android looks up host names? And preferably how to add a new search domain suffix to it.

Bump, anyone have any ideas?
I've tried a couple things, but no dice.

So it appears that resolv.conf isn't used, but that dns is handled with with the getprop / setprop of net.dns.xxxx. And in this case net.dns.search. Except that even when I change the property to include my domain I can't do direct host resolution. Works fine with host.domain.edu calls though on my vpn connection.
Anyone have more familiarity with setprop and getprop of the network stuff?

Is there a dhcp server on the other side giving you an ip address on the internal network? Is it handing out internal dns addresses and the correct dns suffix?

There is a VPN DHCP server. But add in just an employee and not an IT guy I don't know about anything else it does.
On my Bionic though I could use SetDNS and add my domain suffix through it for searches and all was fine. Can't seem to now on my N2

same problem, but no solution . I discovered that command
setprop net.dns1 x.x.x.x
sets DNS properly, but I am currently looking for a way to do that automagically, or faster than using terminal.

can any of you recoomend an app that stores all my banking and private info and passwords on?
I use Password Safe by Jeff Harris. It is in the market. There is a PC version as well and you can use the same database for both. I have been using the PC version for years.

Try keepass. Works for all sorts of private info. It uses very well respected encryption, is open source and is free as in beer, and clients exist for almost every platform. If you keep your db in your dropbox you can have your passwords and data everywhere.

Very interesting and difficult situation , sorry I want to help you , but don't know how to do it .
Hi all
I'm trying to set up a VPN connection between a Linux Mint 10 PC (server) and a Nexus 7 (client).
All I'm getting so far is a "Connecting" status from the Nexus 7, followed after a few seconds by a "Disconnected" one.
As it is my first attempt at setting up a VPN (both on the server and client sides) I was wondering if there was a log file generated by Android on the Nexus that would give me a clue as to where I'm going wrong.
A similar file on the server side would also be very helpful.
Thanks in advance.
Read this for a start how to set up server properly:

Thanks, asmerito, but I have set up a VPN connection, not an OpenVPN one.
What does syslog on server say when trying to connect with Nexus?

Sorry, @asmerito, but the question here was really whether it's possible to read a relevant log file on the android device (client), not on the server side. In most cases, the VPN client users don't have any access to the server. In my case, I am depending on several VPN lines for work. I can connect well from Win and Linux computers, but struggle with PPTP and MS-CHAPv2 from Android. (No need to kick in an open door by telling me even Microsoft informs this is completely insecure.....again the service/setup is beyond my control....)
Thanks a lot!
I have been trying to use Mac Address Ghost to spoof my address, and have been getting authentication problem error when attempting to reconnect to the wifi network.
I have confirmed that I am using a valid mac address, and that I have busybox and root.
My router is the Linksys E1200 model, updated to the latest version.
Any idea what's going wrong?
