I have now moved from the iphone to an andriod devide (htc one x+ to be precise) and would like to apply some themes on my new device.
I'm confused on how themes work, on the iphone there are full package themes that change everything(icon, colours, layout etc) but on the android when I went to the play store and applied some free themeses, there weren't many changes.
I'd like to know what I have to look for in order to fully customize my device?
Currently my device has an unlocked bootloader, rooted and installed android revolution rom, after installing that rom I have restored my data from my stock rom and everything is working. Too early for me to know whether the new rom provides any benefit but in the meantime I'd like to customize my device
Thank you

At best you look for a custom Rom that gives you many options for adjustment.
That should not be an advertisement, but I myself use one rom of Vemon
Many settings, including themes, icons Tatusbar.
Give it a try.

Hello there,
I recently changed from symbian to android.....Can some help me on how to apply themes in wildfire ...especially this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060333
Theming is very different in Android compared to Symbian. What you see there requires a Custom ROM with a Theme Chooser App inbuilt into it.
So, if you have a Custom ROM (Cyanogenmod 7 or Ginger Yoshi), then just install it, and choose via Theme Chooser.
Obviously, you will need root for it, which will not be possible via software if you are on Android 2.2.1
then if i update to 2.2 can i root?
No. Please read again. If you are 2.2 you can NOT root.
Until down to 2.1, most people stuck wit dis take time to read around, you'll find your
ok mine is 2.1 and am planning root it and use cyanogen mod...after doing this am gonna install the samsung touchwiz by rolle..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709763
will this provided touchwiz file work with wildfire without the need for rooting...?
if so ill updatet to 2.2 officially and install this launcher..plzz guide me
Its under the Nexus One Forum, so its unlikely it will work. There is some user who has developed TouchWiz for the Wildfire, and you can find it at the Wildfire Android Development Forum (Just use Search).
As for root, I don't know whether it will work without root or not, but, I would personally recommend you to not update to official 2.2.1 because you will lose the ability to root (Even if you do not intend to install Custom ROMs - At this point of time), and you will have to stick with the stock functionality, meaning you will not be able to change your mind later about installing root apps and Custom ROMs like Cyanogenmod.
Of course, if you are 101% convinced you will never require root and Custom ROMs, you are welcome to update to official 2.2.1
thanks alot for the advice ...i decided to root and install CM7 rom....can you provide me the link for the touchwiz file for wildfire...ill search for it too...
Good idea in not going for the official 2.2.1 update. It will atleast keep your options open for alternatives, even if CM7 doesn't suit you.
Anyway, here is Touchwiz for Wildfire.

I'm new to the whole thing of rooting, i'm new to androids to be specific. I spent the last two years modding iOS's but my last iphone 4 was stolen and i got my hands on the new SGS2. I like it a lot but i still want to take more out of it.
Why ROOT my phone? What are the pros and cons of doing it? (i dont have this very clear since im new and i dont really know all my phone can do as is, stock). will i be able to reverse it, or delete it with an update?
what i really want more help is with the following:
What are MOD and ROMS and wich one is better recommended?
i have search a lot but im still confused a little bit. ive run into cyanogen mod 7, villian etc. i basically want to make themes and add features to the phone, wich MOD will give me more room to play around, wich one has more stuff running around on the web?
i found a theme called neongt that i liked a lot will it work with any mod or rom i choce?
thanks a lot with whatever help you can give me
* Root is equivalent of Jailbreaking in iOS
* Provides root access to the mobile OS
* Can install backup apps like Titanium backup which requires too to take backup freeze or unfreeze apps
* Villian ROM is based on the latest version of Android OS released for SGS2. Note that there are different firmware for different regions unlike iOS
*CyanogenMod is I believe its from Vanilla Android OS with mods . To know more about click here http://www.cyanogenmod.com
* You can try any one and if you dont like you can always revert back to Stock rom (original which was released by Samsung)
* Mods are additional features to an existing ROM. Example One of the mod is when you click the power button, it will display Reboot , Recovery which is not provided in Stock rom also showing % in battery is another MOD
Hope this helps You can look into http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1058
BTW What I read is 99% impossible to brick the phone. So you can play around with the phone with flashing roms
If you new to android then wait a while before rooting. There are tons of stuff to learn and do without root.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
The only real way at the moment to brick the phone is to put the PIT in and then have a problem while flashing (or put a galaxy s pit in, it has been done, thats a hardbrick).
Root is like total control, you can do anything and edit anything.
The easiest way to root is using CF-root which autoroots you, this is a stock kernel with a custom inframfs which does the rooting.
When chosing a kernel you need to match the bolded bit of the version to the rom you are using CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG6-v4.1-CWM4.zip
The rest of the version relates to the region it was built for, but for kernels that does not matter.
Custom kernels normally bring Clockworkmod recovery which gives you options to take a whole phone backup/snapshot of the moment you backed up.
They also have other things like overclocking(not recomended unless you know what you are doing)/undervolting controls.
Also stuff like BLN(back light notification) which uses the touch key backlight to show notifications like an led would.
Custom roms, deodexed means taking the classes.dex files and shoving it back into the jar file so its easier to edit.
At the moment if you deodex the framework (part of the OS) the stock browser lags, some roms with around this by leaving it odexed but this has its disadvantages as some mods need a 100% deodexed rom or a 100% odexed rom.
You can use places like the UOT kitchen to theme your phone yourself or find loads of themes in the right section.
Also part of the rom is called a CSC which contains customisations like apps your carrier wanted to bundle, also APN settings, you can use any CSC with any version in general and dont need to flash a new one unless the rom comes with or asks for one.
Always read the first posts in a thread, and use the search before asking a question
thanks a lot to everyone i have spent last night researching and ive learn a lot, i think i have taken all i can from my phone already, im a modding freak so i cant se my phone behave or look the same way for too long, i have it since july 20 ill keep it as is for a couple of weeks more and then ill try only rooting. after that ill play aruond with the mods until i found one that i can use to make one my self and theme it my way as i use to do with my ios's. thanks a lot for all the advices. ive heard a lot of rumors about bricked phones but i have figure out that is not that risky, as my friend galaxyII back there said, but it still can happen so ill be as carefull as i can
im looking forward to posting/sharing the mods or themes i make, also if you know someone that needs help with iOS devices i can help
i better keep looking around now so i dont mess anything up XD lolz
Hi. Today I purchased the HTC One X+ and the first thing I am going to do is root it and install Cyanogenmod onto it. I've installed custom roms on numerous Android devices, so this is not unfamiliar territory to me, but I do have a question regarding a new concept for me. If I flash a new rom then decide I want to go back to the stock rom, how would I ever go about that? Also, the stock rom usually comes with tons of unncessary software, is there a rom that is the same as stock, but with all the removed bloatware? Thanks!
Hi guys, I was curious, I have been using my HTC One I got from ATT on launch day, Now I want to root it, and I can through HTC Dev but I have a OSX Mac 10.8.3 and I am scared of screwing the device up, First of all, Is there any way to run 4.2.2 with zero bugs or issues? if not, what can i do to remove bloatware that i do not want (besides att adress book which i actually use), so I can free up my memory, because I use memory booster and I see lots of stupid stuff that eats away on the RAM, I hate the blinkfeed and I just want to optimize the device, Also once 4.2.2 is available OFFICIALLY i want to be able to upgrade to it without having to go through hassle (ota) if i root I cant do that?

I've had no problems using a Mac in the past with regards to unlocking through HTC Dev.

As you are probably aware, HTC has not released an official 4.2.2 update for the One. Even when they do, you will have to wait for AT&T to release their OTA update for it (since you are using the stock AT&T ROM).
However, once you root your phone you can use a custom ROM instead of the stock AT&T version. Most custom ROMs for the One right now are still based on 4.1.2 and Sense 5 (as they are primarily modifications of the stock HTC sense ROM than entirely new versions), however a few ROMs based on 4.2.2 do exist for the One presently (CyanogenMod, AOKP, etc). Be aware that these ROMs are still early in development and are likely to have some bugs at the moment.

You can install a custom ROM with the bloatware pre-removed or you can keep the stock ROM and root your phone, then simply remove the applications you want manually. Personally, I would recommend you take a look at the Android Revolution ROM, as it is very close to the HTC stock ROM, but it also has some useful mods (such as the percentage battery indicator and performance tweaks) and all AT&T bloat removed. You can always reinstall any AT&T apps you miss if they are available on the Play store (and I'm pretty sure all of them are).

If you don't want blinkfeed you have a few options:
Change your launcher to something other than Sense, such as Nova (does not require custom ROM)
Install a custom ROM that does not have blinkfeed (one of the ROMs not based on Sense)
Stay on Sense but switch your default homescreen to something other than blinkfeed/disable all sources for blinkfeed (this doesn't remove blinkfeed but it does effectively the same thing)

My understanding is that if you simply unlock your bootloader and root your device, but stay on the stock AT&T ROM you will still be able to get OTA updates, however you may have to re-root your phone after doing so. If you want 4.2.2 available right away when HTC releases it you will likely get it faster here on XDA than you will by waiting around for AT&T to push an OTA update, however. Updating your ROM with a custom recovery tool like ClockworkMod is very simple (just place the zip on your SD card and click "update from zip" in CWM), so personally I don't see the big deal of having OTA unless you aren't near a computer much. Some custom ROMs even support OTA updates for that ROM.
Hi, this will probably be a silly question but I can't find a straightway answer for it.
I've just bought an used Sony Xperia Z2. Coming from a Nexus 4 I would like to be able to get an Android stock ROM in my Z2. Not the stock ROM with Sony add ons, but something as close as I would get in a Nexus device.
Is that possible? And after I do it, will it update automatically to new versions of Android?

You want Vanilla android or Pure Android. The Sony add on Android is actually the lightest skin from an OEM (HTC, Samsung, LG, Huawei) so I don't really get the incentive to change it. But if you must all you need to do is:
- turn on developer mode on the phone
-unlock the bootloader on said phone
-flash custom recovery, then use recovery to make Nandroid Backup of stock system
-at this point you can either root your phone or just flash your choice of ROM (CM, Paranoid Android, Aurora are good vanilla options).
Once you flash a custom rom you will no longer automatic OTA updates. You will have to manually flash any updated ROM.
YouTube for more details.
You could do little tweaks to make your Z2 appear like Pure Android without flashing a rom. U can do things like: installing Google launcher or Nova launcher, Google keyboard, Google calender, etc
Ok, thank you.
So my only option is installing something like Cyanogenmod I see. I was getting confused by the AOSP build from Sony and what it was abut but now I see it's not really usable for normal phone operations.
