seriously, and i mean it.. did you guys have trouble multitasking with youtube?
When you buffer anything inside youtube, and you switch to ANY other app for example browser or calendar or whatever, all the buffer you have done, will gone back to zero !! Wtf!
How stupid this is?? And i wonder why nobody has ever noticed this and complained about it somewhere over the net.
Yes, I have even basic problem with youtube. When I switch to another app, why does the video stop playing? Sometimes, I am only interested in the audio!

Hi, I'm having same prob and I don't think we can do anything to it ;/

No, the video can continue to play but in the background. For example, on a PC, if I have youtube video playing in a browser tab, and I switch to another browser tab - the video continues to play back. So, I can at least listen to audio (which is useful for music videos).
Thanks,
Osho
I have this problem and it annoys me, as I have very slow internet,so last thing I need is for it to restart again.

Yea, i know that if in pc, you switch to another tab, youtube would still continue buffering. But this did not happen in tab's youtube. If I buffer any video, and then i switched to browser, then switch back again to youtube, all the buffers would have gone to zero.
Are you 100% sure you dont have this problem with your stock youtube app?

Are you talking about p1000 or the new gt with honeycomb?
Don't be fooled into thinking that Android's multitasking is that much more robust than iOS. When you move away from an app, the system sleeps the VM that it is running in to devote clock cycles and memory to your current working application. The only way an app can continue to persist alive in the background is to specifically request to remain alive and working on something with background processes. The YouTube app doesn't do this, so when you move away from it the application sleeps.
The only advantage Android has over iOS in terms of multitasking is the easy ability for an app to run background processes if it so chooses. Fortunately no sane app developer is going to write an app that tries to stay completely active in a non-windowing OS.

Okay, i know it make sense to not write an app that tries to stay completely active in background. But wouldnt it make sense for an app such as youtube that needs a lot of buffer (since not all country in the world have fast mobile connection), to be partially active in background, such as the buffering ability?
I think that make sense! And i still wonder why wouldnt honeycomb developer realize this .

Be careful, Playbook owners might start feeling smug about their device if they see things like this

I would also like Youtube to be able to play in the background, just like on a PC. Why not? It can't be too hard to programme either.
Swedish national radio, Sveriges Radio, has a good app that allows you to listen to all their programmes and the app runs smoothly in the background while I surf or do other stuff on the tablet. You'll find it at Google Play (former Market) if you're interested.
An other thing that Youtube on Android does not do is to run playlists. Again, why not?
I can't really see the point in removing great features when you develop a new OS. The goal can't really be to make it worse compared to the PC, can it?

If your mostly worried about the playlist feature, it works when running stock browser and you are signed in. All you have to do is tap on the bottom-right corner of the video's preveiw image, afterr tapping, the little '+' shows up

A solution would be using OverSkreen (Browser) and just open youtube in a small window.
Does anyone know where the settings are for this?
Every time I connect to my car, either the music app or, now since I installed this other music app, starts automatically.
This is really annoying if say for instance I just want to play Pandora.
I'm on saurom 7.1.
Any help would be very much appreciated as I couldn't seem to find anything about this through the search.

This is a major shortcoming of android imho. Try headset button controller from the market.
Which music player ate you using?

Well, originally it was doing it with the standard music app that came with Saurom, I didn't uninstall that or anything, but now that I installed Meridian, it does it with that now.
I couldn't find any settings in meridian for that, but I guess I can check again,I may look in the standard music app's settings as well.

Yeah whenever I connect to my Ford Sync system, my BT audio always starts playing at some random song and usually midway. Rather annoying since my wife's ip4s commands are obeyed perfectly and BT audio waits for her to tell the system what song/album/artist to play.

Anyone managed to find a solution? This is so annoying.
I listen to radio broadcasts off of websites a couple times a week. The broadcasts are not available to listen to through any apps. Up until now I have had to keep my browser open while I listen to them which kills my battery because the screen has to remain on. I want to be able to background the browser and turn the screen off while still having the audio play back through my headphones. Is there any way to do this?

I Guess this is an iOS only feature
But u can make ur screen as dim as u can , using apps like lux https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vito.lux&hl=en
I dim my screen to 20% but it still seems to kill my battery quickly. I did do this with my jailbroken ipod touch but I don't have wifi access at my new job. Is there not an app like backgrounder for android? Or will one of the other browsers (ie. firebox or dolphin) work.

hey guys!
Just picked up my Moto X about a week ago and rlly enjoying it!.. thought id stay under the 30 minute talk-time as long as i could to not void the return policy just in case i wanted to come back to apple and pick up a 5S.. decided im sticking with the Moto tho!
Anyway on the iphone i was able to play a video, then lock (sleep) the display and have the audio of that video still play while having the info and toggle button (play, rewind etc.) show up in the lock screen by tapping the wake button. I used this primarily for video streaming via the Safari browser using sites like youtube (the youtube app didnt allow this function).
Can i do something similar to this (play the audio of a video with the display put to sleep + have a toggle widget in the lock screen) . I found it to be super convenient for listening to interviews and talks while at the gym or even in the car while saving some battery.
sorry if the solution is obvious.. im still learning Android's functionality.. is there a native way of doing this? if not is there a browser/app/widget that can do this? do i need to get a custome build of the OS?
Thanks in advance, i know u guys are great on here

There's also a modded youtube apk somewhere under Development & hacking which allows exactly that, playback with screen off.
I think PVTStar also does that, I'm not wrong (it's an app to play youtube videos basically).

so i think the app you mention is called SuperTube which is pretty sleek.. it does play the audio with the screen off which is rlly nice and it has a pull down widget for pausing and playing!
another question is whether there is a web browser that can do this for videos that are outside the realm of YouTube?

Try PVStar, I think it does a broader video search (not just youtube). if I'm not mistaken. Check on play. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.asbit.pvstar
So I know I shouldn't expect much from the hardware site of the phone, but even when I just do easy multitasking like if I'm in facebook for a while and the swap over to snapchat via the multitask menu, it usually has shut down snapchat by itself so the app has to restart? Same thing happens with almost every app.
Also with spotify for example if I have to other apps running and swap a little between them in the end spotify will force close, this has not happened to me on any other device not even on my galaxy nexus.
So does this happen to others than me? I mean a light use of multitask it can't handle...
Other than that I sure do love this phone
Also how can it be when I turn up for the volume playing a YouTube video, listening to spotify, Google play music and so on, it pauses the video/song? Check through all settings can't seem to find anything.
