Hi all, this is the first time i need help with my smartphone. I made a small (but stupid :silly mistake trying to install my first custom rom in my xt910 gsm, specifically: [ROM] [CDMA/GSM] Unofficial CM10.1 (JB 4.2.1) [01/29: UPDATES].
Ok, i read the guide several times but i also made an error: i installed cyano in the stock rom slot, instead of slot-1. A very noob error...
obviously system won't boot (bootloops).
Very good.
Only in a second time i've created the slot-1, and correctly flashed Rom and Gapps. The rom runs smooth!
now i learned the lesson, must read CAREFULLY guides!! but i destroyed stock rom.
i want to come back to the original state, and install CM 10 in "dual boot"
I need to flash stock 4.0.4 again, but how?
I suppose i need to follow these steps:
1- uninstall safestrap (i need to delete also slot-1?)
2- boot into fastboot
3- flash stock ics with RSDlite
4- apply ics ota update
5- root
6- intall safestrap
7- flash cm10 to slot-1
is the right procedure, or am i wrong?
could someone correct me please?
Thanks in advance :good:

Dunno if my comment would be the solution but this problem happens to me xD So when I have this problem I put in into RSD and flash ICS and then start over, but I don't recommend you CM10.1 because the camera isnt fully working, there is a JB OTA the verizon for example I have it right now and everything is ok
Once you flash the ICS update, if you want to use any JB or CM10.1 roms, check out the razr dual kernel utility that is floating around the forums. It will allow you to flash the JB kernel from the JB OTA leaks (and will allow you to return to the ICS kernel). It's a nice piece of kit. It's true though, the CM roms out there for the razr are ALL buggy. Camera issues, problems with SD card mounting, etc... Good luck!
Solved!
Thanks for the answers!
I solved the problem flashing directly the fastboot rom with rsd lite.(+ota update and root)
Manually erased safestrap folder.
4.0.4 stock up and running.
Cm 10.1 is full of bugs, camera issues (no flash, no widescreen, no hd recording video), bluetooth issues (no bt audio during calls). graphic issues.
Is only a good toy to play with.
I hope in the near future we could see a fully working cm 10.1, developers are working hard!
Happy to read this and remember if you are going to flash a ROM you always have RSD and never do the process with less than 40% Battery

Android....
.....Ice Cream Sandwich for Motorola RAZR XT910 (GSM/UMTS)!
This is a PREROOTED ICS ROM to be flashed with the BOOTSTRAP RECOVERY. It does contain everything you need. It is intended for developers and people who wants to enjoy the light performance & stability modifications in this ROM.
It actually doesn't work on BR devices because of different signatures
Requirements:
1. Root
2. Bootstrap Recovery
3. Official ICS OTA already installed
Flash How-To:
1. Download the file
2. Place it on the root of your external SDCard
3. Go into Bootstrap recovery
4. Go! Go! Go!
Making it to be fast & stabler:
Settings -> Developer Options -> Force GPU Rendering
Enable it. :°)
Why flash this or use this as Base ROM for Development?
The vm heapsize is increased here so with this ROM there's some performance more than the official Moto one.
Oh, and this is prerooted, so you don't have to provoke you headaches on rooting your ICS system.
For developers, this is an already build ZIP file, easy to deodex and reimplement the changes.

Is there anything else modded, or is it just a flashable, rooted version of the leaked update?
WooHoo ! Downloading now !
It is only a flashable rooted ICS update.
This will make you able to install ICS without going through OTAs and various reflashes.
just to make sure.. after i flash this, will i be able to boot cwm and restore my backed up rom?
Well, there's a problem for that.
This package will also flash the ICS kernel on which Gingerbread can't run.
If you want to come back to Gingerbread, you'll have to flash the Gingerbread kernel through fastboot after restoring your Gingerbread ROM from CWM.
Flashing a Gingerbread ROM via Fla**** or RSD Lite won't give you this problem.
Master kholk
Just want to ask before i try this ICS, and i know its out of this topic, do u think i can flash the Chinese ROM and its 2.3.7 OTA? Seems newer though, any changelogs?
Thanks for all the projects you have, i am from the Philippines and i am encouraging my fellow RAZORIANS here in my country to check out this FORUM in XDA and ETERNITY PROJECT...
You are doing a great job for our RAZR...
Keep it up
doesnt work for me. "E:cant't open ..." error message during installation

EDIT: explanation in the next post.
Nope, you have to flash ONLY the kernel, not the whole image, otherwise you'll automatically discard your recovered system on CWM.
You can do that with EternityProject Fla**** placing ONLY boot_signed into the Fla**** directory. You'll see a LOT of errors: that's because it won't find any other file than boot_signed, the only one you want to flash in THIS CASE.
So, if you want to restore your previous ROM:
1. CWM
2. Fla**** (only boot_signed).
doesnt work for me! im on BR stock rom and it just stays in the M logo doing nothing! tried twice in two different razrs, same result. had to fastboot back to stock!! b;( any sugestions? also i wipe data cache everything before flashing

At the current.. DO NOT FLASH THIS lol.
yeah, i'm stuck at M logo too.. i was on 651.150.1 OTA, didn't wipe anything and just flashed the zip. now i'm stuck.

you are Masterpiece kholk, do we have to full wipe or not?
A full wipe is highly recommended. However, I can't really know why you're having those "M Freeze" problems.
Can you post the exact version of your previous software (and your ability/unability to flash en.EU Fastboot ROMs), so that we can fix everything?
Thanks.
I don't think anyone reads through posts.. only the first and maybe the last. But Quit asking what to do, READ..
This does not work currently as reported by mutliple people on this site as well as his Home Site - Eternity Project .
I done a full Wipe - Dalvik / Data / Cache - and atempted to flash - got stuck at the M logo - My battery got too low while at work waiting to get home, and well now waiting on Phone to charge enough to Fastboot lol.

Everything installed correctly, it just hangs on reboot with the big red M. I had to RSD the Stock ROM again - but I will give it another go.
Hi, I've flashed my S2 (Android 2.3.4) with litening rom (V2.0 XXKG1) a while back.
I've been wanting to root ICS on it with Odin (it's from the UK so I'd use the official firmware from Orange, if there's no better choice), but I'm afraid that since it contains a custom rom that was designed for gingerbread it might have some incompatibility issues.
Do I need to restore my phone to factory settings or can I just root ICS on top of what's already there?
Also, once I root the official new firmware will all those pesky stock apps from samsung come back?
Thanks for any help!
1) Follow whatever instructions the specific ICS rom has re: flashing it.
If it says it's OK to flash directly from GB, then go for it. If it says do something different, do that. If it doesn't mention flashing something else over the top of GB before flashing the ICS rom, I think you can pretty safely assume you don't need to (unless the dev of the ICS rom expects you to be a mind reader).
2) Re: restoring factory settings first, refer to 1 (but likely for most roms so you don't end up with a lot of FCs on system apps).
3) That will depend on whether the rom you flash has those pesky apps included and whether you need to do a factory reset/wipe or not (refer to 2; likely)
Hello,
I have flashed my SG S II with Lite'ning Rom v2.3 XWLP2. Previously i was on a gingerbread previous version of Lite'ning rom, which worked flawlesly for several months.
Everything seemed fine and i restored with Titanium only my missing apps+data (not the system data).
After a few hours, the phone started to at times not be able to see the sd card. More importantly, it would suddenly hung and reboot, appear to be working for a couple of minutes and reboot again. This would happen for 10 mins. Then without changing anything, everything would be normal again for 5-6 hours, after which rinse and repeat.....
Does anybody else have the same problem or did i do something wrong? Could anybody know if fs there anything i could do to fix it other than reflashing again?
Thanks in advance guys...
Factory reset in the first instance, then a reflash with a clean install of everything (No Ti restores).

So basically all I need is to flash a Rom that has been updated to ICS and it will update my phone too? I thought I needed to update the firmware and then flash a Rom
As I said yesterday, follow whatever specific instructions the rom you're wanting to flash has; for example, CM7 is pretty specific about having to flash the rom twice, CM9 requires a wipe/factory reset if you're coming from another rom.
Rom is another name for firmware.
Modem is separate, a few roms come with a modem & overwrite/replace your existing modem, most do not. Kernels are also included with pretty much all roms & will overwrite/replace your existing kernel.

There are a lot of roms out there, which ics rom is the best? Which GB rom is the fastest?

Not true. I have used GenericGinger for 3 months with maybe 2 crashes total. It's quite stable and fast, and the UI is much better than that one (of course, I use Go Launcher with any ROM), especially because it has an ICS theme (although it says beta, I've had no issues).

I completely agree. I've been testing this rom for a couple weeks and everything works like the stock rom did, if not better. It has awesome features. GenericGinger is also perfectly stable with the ice cream theme and has other features but not as much.
As soon as someone helps to fix the ice cream kernel I'm sure we will have allot more stable roms to choose from.
Newbie Question
Forgive me if this is a dumb question:
Does Eryigit's Custom ROM GingerBread-2.3.6 G70ZCKPA Release 3.5 INCLUDE Entropy's Kernal ??
or must you 1st install Entropy's Kernal BEFORE you install Eryigit's Custom ROM GingerBread-2.3.6 G70ZCKPA Release 3.5 ?

It comes with the kernel. Since you are using entropys kernel im guessing you are from the US meaning your stock is 2.3.x meaning the kernel is the correct format for the rom anyway so if for some strange reason it does not come with the kernel then you will be safe from brick in theory. And you can put entropys kernel on afterwards. You can check to see if it is there by going into cwm and if it isn't there then your on stock kernel (unless you all ready have another kernel on already)
But I am pretty sure that it comes with the kernel in.

You can't be too careful
Thank you Samwes.
I am from the US with stock SGP5 Model YPG70CWYXXA and I dread the chance of bricking, so I'm doing lots of homework by looking at and trying to understand various postings here.
KIES is working on my Windows PC, so my plan is to root via SuperOneClick and install Eryigit's latest tar file via the latest version of Odin. I read in the install instructions that you are supposed to:
(in Clockwork recovery mod : wipe cache partition ---> OK; Wipe data/factory reset --> OK;
advanced - wipe dalvik cache --> OK; after that install new rom , You must do it , clean installation.)
The stock version does not have Clockwork recovery mod, so do I need to do the Odin install twice? e.g. The 1st install to GET the Clockwork recovery mod feature, then go into Clockwork recovery mod to do the above "wiping", and then repeat the install via Odin again ??
Actually, once you've got Entropy's recovery mod installed, you can just use that to install other roms. Just copy the new rom file over (in a .zip) to your device, boot into recovery mode, and choose the right options. (It's fairly intuitive)
You say you dread the chance of bricking your device; if you're not prepared to accept and live with the possibility of doing so, perhaps terminally, then I suggest you not do it.
What, exactly, do you hope to gain by rooting and flashing a different ROM? Does the stock ROM lack some specific functionality that you want/need, or is it only for experimental purposes?
If you're just looking to gain the experience, then that's a perfectly valid reason to explore the flexibility of Android, but you must be careful in what you do, and realize the consequences of error.
Just do a backup in recovery before you flash..i did not now anything before i flash it and i brick it but people here help me to unbrick it and since then i know how and i flash almost every rom from here for testing.

I bricked my first device months ago because I didn't have any experience flashing stuff, I made a mistake, but now I know better.
Don't be afraid, just try it, but be informed first, now there's a lot more information about anything related to this device.

Yeah I should of researched more I was stupid, when I tried flashing a from with Odin it would work, so I reset the device and then when it rebooted I came up with the picture with the phone and then dots connecting it to a computer and then that didn't work with Odin either, so I was stupid and let the battery run all the way out because I though it would fix it but no. It got hard bricked and it now doesn't turn on. Hope any of you never make the mistake I did, and now I'm trying out a USB jig because I know its charging so there is still chance, if that doesn't work then I will have to take off the back plate and remove the battery and I will go from there, but for now I'm awaiting for my USB jig to arrive, it sucks.....
Hi, I am looking around for a ROM to install on a friends device and I noticed that the only tutorial I found for this phone is with the BootManager. Does that mean that is the only way to flash a new ROM?
Can I just install CWM through fastboot and install a ROM through recovery?
Do I need to unlock the bootloader on this device?
Thanks in advance. Sorry for the stupid questions but I have never had a Motorola device and am not familiar with the procedures.

The bootloader on the Motorola RAZR is not unlockable.
I've flashed custom ROMs using both SafeStrap and BootMenu (my favourite is BootMenu, here's a link for more info on it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720351)
The neat thing about the RAZR is that it can be dual-booted using either of these recoveries. I am running both Eclipse ICS and stock Blur.
The most well known ROM for RAZR is probably Eclipse. If you have the GSM model, you'll need a patch or ported version. There are also ported alphas of CM9, 10 and AOKP.
Let me know if you have more questions or want some more links

So, is SafeStrap and BootMenu a custom recovery, or do I still install CWM or TWRP?
Do you have any experience with the CM10 or AOKP ports? If so, are they at all stable?

SafeStrap and BootMenu are both CWM-based recoveries; they're all you need to flash. I prefer BootMenu, though it was a bit more complex to set up (Eclipse wasn't flashing in SafeStrap for some reason so that's when I started trying BootMenu). BootMenu lets you select which ROM to boot upon powering on the device (stock or the second one you flashed, alternatively you can flash your new ROM on top of the stock system but I don't see why you would), or boot into recovery. If you're really used to basic CWM I'd go for SafeStrap unless otherwise needed though.
I've tried both CM10 and the AOKP JB ROM (these flashed perfectly fine in SafeStrap). The camera doesn't work and apparently deep sleep doesn't either. It wasn't friendly on battery in my experience. I had trouble with data, too (this may have been my APN settings... But at the time I hadn't even tried playing with those because I didn't figure that was my problem). Wiping the cache partition and dalvik cache allowed data every so often on the next boot, but then apps started acting up (likely because of the dalvik wipe) until another reboot... which killed the data again :silly: The general consensus is that data works though. But overall, I wouldn't try it just yet unless you make sure it's installed on your second system and not flashed over your stock one.

I can't say enough good things about Eclipse. Try that if you want. Incredibly stable and all main features are working - fantastic modified AOSP look too. It's my daily driver
Original Eclipse CDMA page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795493
GSM patches in case that applies to you (the FULL Eclipse port is towards the bottom, ready to flash without patching): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805380
Oh, and finally, SafeStrap recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1847599
Just make sure you enable Safe System in recovery and you can go flash-happy without any worry! Disabling Safe System puts you right back to stock (you can re-enable Safe System to go back into the ROM you have installed on there).
So yeah, that's about it! Check out the links; everything you need to know should be in them, and I'll try to help more if you need! Have fun
Edit: CM10 port entered beta today (AOKP port disappeared from the page?). Camera is working as well as other little features; still no deep sleep.
Hi All,
My friend use Apollo 14.3.2.3. I follow the guides and help to downgrade to 14.3.1.0. Then, I also helped him to install safestrap and Apollo Gapps Version 1.2. Everything was fine and prefect.
However, my friend tried to use factory reset at Gapps rom v1.2 without telling me. It made Kindle can't boot. Fortunately, he can go to recovery and make stock rom active. It can boot. However, I found that this is not original stock rom. I think the stock rom was replaced by Gapps rom v1.2.
Does anyone know how to restore the original stock rom? I have a stock rom backup copy from my kindle. Can I use that?
Thanks in advance.
Why not just autoupdate? That would lose you root but you can get it back.

Simple
First of all what you describe it did not happen or at least not right you described it sounds like they don't know exactly what they did. Second of all if they do not realize what they are doing to their device and they are very likely going to end up with a paperweight but that is neither my problem or your problem. Third if you do have a stock back up. Make sure you are on the stock slot then restore your stock back up...WARNING If you are both ignorant of this device. You will be back
