Power save mode - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone run their s 3 without power save mode and do you have any comments about battery/performance? I notice when I run my phone with it on it makes it quite laggy and apps take AGES to load compared to say my mates phone?

I use power save mode all the time with great battery life and NO LAG Omega Rom XXELLC

I use without power saver enabled.
Difference in battery life is about 20%. There is no significant difference in screen time though.
So the power saver only helps if the screen is off for long durations.

please ask in the correct section

Always. ..and yeah Q&A for questions please!
<sent from my Nexus 4>

Never use it, everything it does can basically be done by you independently anyway.....

I use power saving cause my battery is messed up (not by me XD) and it helps but, if your battery is fine any way you want to have it is fine, although power saving will help you a bit more

Whats the secret to amazing life?

I hear about all these people getting 24+ hours with gps and bluetooth on and blah blah. Whats the secret? im running nero beta 3 with super IO and jk2. Also. I wanna know, what are some good battery conditioning techniques?

This belongs in the Q&A section.
But to answer anyway:
- I've found the JK6 modem to be better for battery life
- Use the forum search feature for battery conditioning
- "Autostarts" app to prevent apps from auto-running after boot that don't need to.
lol, when I saw your post I thought it was some spam about "better life tips" and other self-improvement crap. But now I know it's about battery life.
I have this same question. When I use my phone, a few minutes of web browsing can make it go down 1-2%. With WiFi on, 3% or more. It's ridiculous. I read that doing the battery conditioning by charging completely, erasing battery stats (from CWM recovery), draining completely, charging completely again, will give you better battery life or reading. Only problem is that I have no time to do this because when my phone battery is almost dead during the conditioning process, I'll have to leave my house or do something, and I just can't let it be in that condition while I'm out.

UGHHHHH I hate the thanks button right next to the quote button. I keep thanking people I mean to quote. Errrr.
Anyways, I installed 2.2 with JK6, stock, the one Sombionix made available, and my battery life is great for a powerful phone.
Is there anyway to take un-thank someone? Otherwise I'm just going to need to click around more carefully.

So you get more battery life with jk6 rather than jk2? Hmmm thats strange I read that jk2 was better on the battery...

battery life depends greatly on use too.
ROMs without wifi calling, and using a kernel like Eugene's Super_IO_Kernel, will greatly extend your battery life.
on the other hand, if you play a lot of games or have your brightness set @max, your battery will drain quickly.
also, if you are in an area with bad reception or a building with no signal, expect your battery to drain quickly.

Anyone having battery problem with xBoarder's BulletProof 2.4.0?

It's draining my phone like hell......it was fine in 2.3.1.
I'm experienced user and I know I dont have bluetooth, wifi, data, or anything like that on. No backgroup stuff either.
It's like 1% for 5 min.
And why do you need to post such question here?

Because it's the general section for the Amaze, and this is where this type of question belongs.
To the OP did you wipe data, cache & davlik before flashing? Also what kernel are you using?

"Battery problem with xboarder's bulletproof" cannot be anymore specific but yeah lets open new threads and become famous to the op, might be smarter asking where bulletproof belongs, that way you might get more feedback from bulletproof's users. As it regards ur concern, just deactivate automatic sync of social networks and ur battery life will be back to normal. Nothing to do with kernels
before this turns into a flame war...not everyone is able to post in the development section especially if they are new...the question belongs here since we do not have a Q/A section.
Let's get back to the topic. to the OP: can you be more specific about what is going on with your battery? 1 percent when screen is off or screen is on???
You could recalibrate your battery. Charge to 100 then go to recovery and wipe the battery stay, then unplug and drain the battery completely. After another full charge, battery life should improve.
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using XDA App
I've noticed a little extra drain myself, but then again i haven't charged the device to 100% yet since flashing... Haven't been concerned about though.
Overall still a wonderful rom, thank you xboarder

I would like to followup... Although i have not been using my phone, since my last post here i only lost 2%... That's not bad

The draining is from that the power manager can't step down the cpu. There is a process that is interfering with the power manager.
I have not had such problems. My battery lasts around 14-16 hours with normal to heavy use. That is with wifi on all the time, calls, some games, and lots of trolling around the Internet. Did you flash the kernel that is included in the zip file? And if so are you over clocked? Like someone else already said, calibrate your battery. There is an app for it in the market that make it idiot proof.
Just get the kernel from an older version and system tuner under clock it. Or try another rom fourth bar ics theme been good for me

[Q] What is the best Rom besides Omega?

i'm just kidding, there isn't any Best Roms We should try it ourselves, but if any body can give some quick tips about having better battery life or tweaks of undervolting using custom kernels. Thanks Guys
Watch what you synch, disable Google backup, freeze everything Samsung related, possibly disable the Google location services if you don't need it as this works constantly because of Google now.....black or dark wallpapers, die Facebook, die! Use siyah with some u/v, not that it makes a huge difference, but all in all, for best battery just try chipping away at it
1. Unnecessary post.
2. It makes very little sense and my eyes hurt trying to read it.
Other than that, well, disable sync, GPS and make wifi die during sleep. Also disable Google location services and whatnot which are known to chew through the battery. Oh, and Facebook alone can eat up 1% extra per hour, just so you know.

Reset without pulling the battery?

Is there a way to reset the S4 without pulling the battery, I had mine lock up after doing a fking backup (for no reason whatsoever), at the VZW screen. I tried holding the power button for 30 seconds, and it didn't reboot. I had to pull off the OTTERBOX case, which is annoying as hell.
So yea, way to force reboot like the DNA?
Not that I can tell. I too came from a phone that could be hard reset through h the power button. Frustrating at times.

My old S3 could be reset by holding the power button...seems the S4 doesn't do that...just tried it...I wonder if its a 4.2.2 change from 4.1.2.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
well that really sucks! my gn2 has the same "feature".
Granted they were HTCs, both my DINC2 and Eris had that feature, where you hold the volume (either up or down) and power buttons until the phone reboots. Anyone tried that, or are we SOL?
I've done a reset with volume up or down and power. That worked for me...
That was during a boot now that I remember... Tried when it was fully booted and failed.

Yea, I tried it when it was stuck at the boot screen, no avail.I just know I'm eventually going to break the battery cover (or the otterbox). That thing is as thin as a wine wafer....I feel like I could lick it and it would melt in my mouth. LOL:silly:
would like to know as well.. I have an aluminum bumper that uses screws. Don't happen to have a screwdriver with me all the time when my phone locks up =(
It would be kind of dumb for such an advanced phone to lack this basic feature...
I hope there disbanded way to do this eventually

I'm looking for a ROM!

The Rom i want would essentialy need:
No graphical tweaks (except wifi notifcation)
battery saving tweeks,
de-bloated
custom bootanimation/sound and splash screen capability
recent apps button changed to settings
I suppose an app or custom power options to boot into recovery and bootloader would be convenient too!
can't think of much else right now.
Anyone know of any roms out there right now? Start throwing me some suggestions!
Just got S-Off recently
This isn't going to end well.
