I initially got the TWRP after i unlocked but I cannot get back now that I have a rom to flash. also I can get to odin mode but i can't do anything from there. did I miss a step or??? if not how do I do this?
Download an app called quick reboot from the market. Allow root to accept and then reboot to recovery
Lemme know how it works out

Thank you that did work.
For future reference you can hold volume up+home button+power to get to recovery too.

rooted but no TWRP
Hello friends,
I am a noob and this is the first phone i have ever attempted to root. I followed the instructions to root explicitly and watched driodmodderx's video . My note 2 ended up rooting but it did not go into TWRP recovery menu, it went into the stock recovery. What did i do wrong and what can I do now to fix this. I really want to flash the jellybeans rom.
Thanks,
Cory

You must have only rooted. You must unlock the bootloader to install ROMs. Go here
:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2118348
GooManager also allows you to update TWRP and reboot into recovery.

Yes it does and very easy. But to the guy with stock recovery please re unlock boot loader before trying goo manager. It will put twrp on your phone but with a locked boot loader you will get the unauthorized software soft brick.

I've tried flashing recovery via Odin and CWM Recovery and it will reboot into recovery just fine. However, when I let it reboot into android, turn it off, and then go back into recovery, CWM is gone. The phone, however, stays rooted.
Any idea what could be wrong or how to fix this?
Secondly, if I can get into CWM immediately after flashing, is it safe to flash a new ROM at that point or do I need to get CWM to stick first?
Anyone? Any suggestions at all will be appreciated

Sure... You can flash a rom immediately following the flash of cwm.... Did you also install busy box?
Which cwm are you trying to use? 5.8.4.7 seems to do me good....?

Before your phone boots after installing cwm in Odin do a battery pull then boot into recovery (Volume Up+Home+power) then flash your superuser/root package. It will stick then.

I tried using that CWM version as well as an older one. Both work and I can get busy box and superuser installed once it boots up. But when I power down and try to go back into recovery, CWM is gone. I do get to keep root though.

I tried unchecking the auto-reboot button on Odin 4 and 7, and going that route. Both allow me to get into CWM, where I try to flash the recovery v5.zip. Still doesn't stick unfortunately.
My flash counter is up to about 10 now, trying to get CWM to stick..

Thanks everyone. I used CWM toolkit, reflashed the stock recovery, then used odin 3.07 to re-flash CWM 5.5.0.4 and it stuck.
Hi just a quick question.I recently rooted my Samsung Galaxy S3 on Sasktel Carrier (Canadian), model mumber: SGH-I747M and i cannot boot CWM Recovery. I have deleted the two /system/ files that some advised to do and i know i am rooted because i have SuperRoot but I still cannot boot it. So im wondering how i could boot CWM Recovery (Keep in mind im a pretty new to this stuff). Is it possible to root my phone more than once without bricking my phone?
i followed this video to root my phone and i was wondering if i could go through the steps again and try to reach the CWM recovery mode that way or would that brick my phone?

Any help is appreciated, thank you!
You have to flash the recovery to boot into it

If I were to follow the instructions from your link could it brick my phone? I've already rooted my phone. Or is this just putting the recovery into my phone? Thanks for the help!

If you follow the procedure in the guide there is minimal risk of bricking your phone, and fortunately in the unlikely event something does go wrong most of the time you can use Odin to fix any mistakes. This procedure will just flash Clockworkmod Recovery and will not effect root access on your phone.

or just download Rom Manager from the play store and flash recovery that way.
1. Open Rom Manager and tap on Flash ClockworkMod Recovery option in the app.
2. You’ll be asked to select your device, select your device name.
3. As soon as you select the model, it should begin installing the recovery.
4. When it has done installing the recovery, you will get a message for the same on your screen.
*NOTE: I do not recommend Rom Manager as a tool to do anything but just install and update ClockworkMod Recovery. Do not flash ROMs from Rom Manager.
I've heard rom manager is a great way to install custom roms. How would you recommend to install custom roms? Through cwm recovery? I cannot install it through rom manager because it says recovery setup instead of flash and when I do try it says i747m isn't supported

The problem with ROM Manger is that on newer devices it can brick your device if you use it to install custom ROMs or try to use it to flash a recovery image even if it is a device that has official Clockworkmod Recovery support. I would recommend either using Clockworkmod Recovery or Team Win Recovery Project to install custom ROMs.
Hello and sorry to post this problem here as i have the tmobile note but i used the att i717 rooting method from rootgalaxynote.com ofcourse did not use an att based rom but a tmobile one( cm10.1 rc2) . The problem is after clearing everything i then proceed to install the new rom using cwm and it says "install aborted" error section 7 ive tried it a few times cleared everything again and still nothing. Dont know if i need to update cwm and if so how vers.5.0.5 or something like that or is it the build which is the lates update by tmo uvlma1 and the instructions were from may of 2012. Please help i have gone back to stock for now as i did backup first. Ps i have installed titanium backup pro and and superuser and have even frozen some of the bloatware from tmo so im guessing i am rooted. Please help as the tmo threads are dead and no help from no one!! Thanks a bunch guys
Just update your recovery dude.
Twrp is superior to cwm imo anyway.
This has been discussed many times. Since you are coming from T-Mobile forum here is a link which was recently discussed. Staus 7 means you need to upgrade your recovery.

Recovery from rom manager will not work. Twrp recovery is good for our devicw. Flash twrp and you will be ok. Follow the instruction from link provided

Your phone will stay in download mode to flash a recovery.
Once flashed boot into that every and flash a Rom within.
Put your phone to download mode. Make sure you have drivers installed. Open odin(i used v1.85). Put the twrp recovery tar file in to pda slot. Conect your phone to your computer in download mode. Once odin finds your device then press start.

So, I updated to 4.3 using the newest method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2504408
However,
I kept root and everything works fantastic and removed KNOX. But...
I cant seem to flash any custom recovery. I tried Unistalling-Re-Installing SafeStrap (No Avail) When I hit reboot recovery it reboots into ODIN Download mode! I have no idea why.
I tried using Goo Manager and flashing TWRP. It says successful but again, when I rebooted into recovery (even using the button press method,. I still am sent to the ODIN download mode. What did I do wrong?
I tried the Loki Method but it says aboot version different or something.
I dont want to do anything to lose root access can anyone tell me how they got a custom recovery on 4.3 ota?

First: Wrong Forum
Second: Having root doesn't mean you can have a custom recovery.
There is no custom recovery. Safestrap isn't compatible...... yet. And the bootloader is locked.
Sent from my NCC 1701 using Tapatalk 4
Only MDK will allow a custom recovery or an unlocked bootloader. Once you went to MJ7 with the OTA, these are both gone.
can someone move my post to appropriate forum?
the above 2 are correct. there is no recovery available for 4.3. all we have is the ability to keep root.
Share with us a screen shot of your phone.. When you boot into Odin does it say 0x0 or 0x1

Hi im hoping someone can help me.
I rooted my phone using the easy root method, I had philz dual recovery and flashed a rom. I installed superSU from the play store (when I should have flashed it) and now I can't access my recovery. I've tried rerooting and reflashing using all three methods for installing the recovery and none are working. Does anyone have a solution to this, I've got a backup of my stock rom etc. but I cant access it or recover it without a recovery. Im pretty much lost on this, I posted in the recovery thread but it didnt get answered.

When you flash a rom when using a recovery for locked bootloaders then it deletes the recovery
You have to reinstall your recovery

Thanks for the reply. I've tried doing that but it won't work, I dont know if it has something with Superuser? it says it cant update the binaries. Either way I've tried all 3 options on the process to install the recover (install with SuperSU, Install with SuperUser and install on unrooted rom)

heres the link for NUTs download page, http://nut.xperia-files.com/ file your looking for is
Z2-lockeddualrecovery2.7.129-BETA.installer.zip (10.59MB)
this appears to be the latest version and is 17th link from the bottom of the right hand list
the flashable zip is just left of the installer
It should mean if u install a new rom and lose recovery just run the installer from windows and it should give u back recovery

Thanks, unfortunately thats what I have been using to try and regain recovery. Any other ideas? Im really struggling, I thought maybe if I unrooted and just re-rooted correctly it might help but I can't find an FTF file for my network I can only find unbranded which I very much doubt would work.
anyone?
I'm in the exact same position. I flashed monx 438 rom and I don't know what happened, I can't get into recovery either. I'm on unlocked bootloader. I have tried flashing the boot.img from 438 advanced stock kernel but at the command prompt it keeps on saying waiting for device. I have root access.
Same here.
I have a stock .402 ROM, unlocked bootloader and rooted. Have flashed the recovery a few times, and still cant get into it. Even when trying to access recovery via cmd prompt "adb reboot recovery"
I too am in the same boat... I rooted my phone, primarily to add the kitkat sd card fix, which works...
Then I went through the motion of unlocking bootloader, which I assume worked cos it wiped my phone clean. Had to reinstall everything...
Then I went through the motion of installing Cwm recovery. This went through OK. Well according to the command prompt it did.
But still I can't access recovery. I get no flashing LED lights before the Sony logo comes up, and then it just boots into normal phone mode.
I am on UK 3 network if it makes any difference......
I'd really love to be able to access my recovery cos I'm dying to apply the dual speaker and volume hack....
Don't know where to go from here..........
Just to add, I flashed to firmware 402 (uk unbranded) and re-rooted the phone and re-installed cwm recovery, but I get no led lights and no recovery mode. Oh well, just like a number one hit for 'the who', it was never meant to be....lol
sorry to resurrect but I have the same issue. how did you guys get back into recovery
I use a kernel with recovery
Vol up - cwm
Vol down - twrp
Cam key - philz
I can't flash kernol because I can't get into recovery even using the app to force boot
