Hi every, I'll adquire a used Samsung Galaxy SIII (it's used but it's new). This phone was buyed in 05/2012 so its been a while since was buy. I've installed eMMC checker software from Play eMMC and get this info Type: VTU00M, FwRev: 0xf1, when I go to Android properties I see the following: Android Version: 4.1.2, Baseband Version: I9300UBELL1, Compile Number: JZO54K.I9300IBEMA1 now, can this phone die and become unusable? Can I install any 4.2.1 based root for example Vanilla Root that I like and my phone will not die? Can I root without any fear?
Cheers
All modern roms for the S3 aswell as the JB bootloader have the Sudden-Death fix. So it's less reliant on which hardware you got than on which software.

What did you mean with "So it's less reliant on which hardware you got"? what things about hardware did you need to know in order to tell me if my phone will die or not. Also I'm thinking on install this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128928 or this another one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1898798 so how do I know if Sudden-Death fix is include in those ROM?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 I-9100M originally purchased from Bell. I rooted the phone using Odin. That was my first time rooting and I must admit, I kind of took blind faith in the instructions without actually taking the time to understand what's going on. In any case, everything has been working fine (except the GPS lock takes forever).
However, I would really like to see some improvements in battery life... and I heard that Gingerbread v2.3.6 has improvements from previous versions. I don't want to go to ICS because I've heard it's slow, etc. Below are the details from my phone:
Android version: 2.3.3
Basebad version: I9100MUGKG2
Kernel version: [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.UGKG2
Can anyone help me understand the above? Since the kernel version says 2.6.3, does that mean I am already on it? Eventhough the OS version says 2.3.3? Sorry if that's a totally ignorant question...
Hi all,
I just bought one of these cheap Chinese CECT Android phones (i9300 Samsung clone), which was advertised as running Android v4.0 (ICS). Looks good and works well.... but
When I go to Settings\About Phone it says it is running v4.0.3 which is fine.
However, when I boot into recovery mode and select 'version' it says it is running Android Ver 2.3.6 (Gingerbread).
Before I complain to the seller about false advertising, what is the true OS version of this phone, Gingerbread or ICS ?
I would have thought that it is in fact running Gingerbread, but is their a quirt about this that I may be unaware of?

Normal boot and recovery mode boots different systems, and they do not need to be the same Android version. In fact, recovery mode doesn't need to be Android at all. Compare it to dual boot on your PC.

Ok thanks for the explanation .. so I won't go off half cocked and start accusing the seller of ripping me off

I am facing continuous restarts so i am looking to root my phone. I also want to get rid of sense (but thats after rooting, right?)
Please refer me to some easy guide( guides on xda are mind boggling) or tell me manually about it..
i came across this one click root method too but i am suspicious as i WOULDN'T want to BRICK my device.
My software versions are,
ICS OPERATING SYSTEM
CID- HTC_038 (INDIA)
SOFTWARE NUM. - 1.18.720.3
SDK API LEVEL - 4.24
HTC EXTENSION VERSION - HTCEXTENSION_403_1_GA_24

Try to narrow down on why the phone's getting restarted. It could be faulty hardware.
I dont think the Software is that buggy to trigger random reboots.
Did you try factory reset.?
If you unlock and root, your warranty is void.
I think you seriously need to consider replacing the phone on warranty.

navmad

it is not restarting continuously, but few times a day when i am not using it or it is charging .its a very quick kind of restart.
i have not rooted it yet. the problem did not happen for first 4 months of the phone and its been 45 days with the problem.
i upgraded my software 2 times from 1.18.401 to 1.18.720
i called HTC, they said it had something to do with flashing the ROM
Then wait for few more days may be jellybean update solve this, if not then you can try custom roms.

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S3, unbranded purchased in South Africa. I live in Serbia. Although I read a lot of forum about root still there are things that I have found and I do not understand.
About phone:
Model number: GT-I9300
Android version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: I9300XXELLA or CP:I9300XXELLA
Kernel version: 3.0.31-836582
Build number: JZ054K.I9300XXEMA2 or AP: I9300XXEMA2 and,
CSC: I9300JVEMA1
Because the phone was not taken to the contract, was not cheap (650eur), I would like to turn it into a brick.
First, I do not have a lot of apps, but the phone is a lot slower than when it was new - empty, otherwise is 5 months old. In the task manager, after killing all processes, 20 remain active, and only 150MB of RAM, known to fall at 80MB. Processes that kill will always return immediately, so that you only have to stop, but do not know which are needed and which are not. Probably when the phone root, there are more options in terms of this. Now we come to the question of.
I know that at root, it must taking care of versions, but I would particularly like someone said, the above things which must be matched and what might not.
For example: Baseband version must be the same version but does not have, you can make this and that, or Build number must be the same version but does not have, you can make this and that and and at the end of CSC must be the same version but does not have. You know what I mean.
I read on the forum, it must first model to be the same, meaning I9300, then build number, if all must be the same, in my case JZ054K.I9300KKEMA2 or just the first part JZ054K?
I know that the CSC does not need to be the same, this is a South African, would I have got if you would put a European or Serbian?
I see the signatures of various kernel, how do I know that I can use on my phone?
I know that these questions are for you who know the funny, but to us who are novices in this not so much. If there were no consequences if something goes wrong, the financial think there would be no problem experimenting, but this just is not. Not urgent, slow when you have time, you respond.
Appreciate in advance.
Cheers !!!
There is always risk when you try to flash something on your phone that it could never go on again. The risk is pretty small but it`s there.
If you still want to Root, there are several different methods, one very easy way is to flash a Kernel, that will Root your device.
Since you have Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean installed you can flash the Siyah Kernel. This Kernel will root your device and it supports all Samsung Jelly Bean ROMs.
You can get it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709686
Download the tar file and flash it through Odin.
Hi Everyone,
I am seeking some advice regarding our beloved Samsung Galaxy 2. I owed this phone in the past and after testing other devices, I am considering to purchase it again. Please kindly try to answer my questions:
1. I have Spinal Muscular Atrophy and I think the S2 is one of the lightest and thinnest smartphone on the market. Do you have any other devices in mind that could be suitable to my mobility issues?
2. I have purchased a few smartphones online (ebay and amazon) and always had difficulties to find one that is “truly” unlocked. Most of them were entitled as “unlocked” but would not work with my sim card. Do you have any advice on this issue?
2b. Do all S2s have the same processors/ram/features? Do you advise any S2 version in particular or all of them are fine?
3. I am interested in those new voice recognition features such as Ok Google/voice and my guess is that the most efficient and reliable versions of it are present on the latest Android versions such as Lollipop/is there any correlation between Android version and Voice recognition efficiency?
3c. Do you think it would be possible to install Lollipop on a S2 and how?
3d. Would it be a simple and “official” update or will it necessary imply a “jailbreak”? Knowing that I am definitely not familiar with this kind of process, are there accessible and straightforward tutorials for newbies showing how to proceed step-by-step?
3e. Would it slower the S2 to update it with Lollipop or create any other issue//conflict/flaw? If so, until what Android version can I update without slowing the S2?
Many thanks for your kind help!

1. Sorry no idea here.
2. By rooting your phone you could remove the branding and use any sim card
2b. The most common version of galaxy s2 is the international one gt-I9100. Depending on the year of when it was made there could be a slight difference in processor. Older processor need more voltage than the newer ones and might not be able to overclock as much as the newer ones. But if you don't intend to undervolt your phone this is unimportant for you. All of them work with 1.2ghz. Which processor type you'll get is some kind of luck I guess.
Gt-I9100 aside therealso are gt-I9100P and 9100g. I'm not sure but I think they work with same specs as the international one (1, 2 ghz and 1gb ram) but they use other hardware and thus it's not as easy to find custom roms like for the gt I9100 I think.
Furthermore there also is the galaxy s2 at&t version. If I'm right this the t mobile version of this phone. It also has the same specs like the other models (different hardware too) but the difference is this phone has no physical home button, which for me, looks better somehow.
I'd suggest to take the international one gt I9100 or the at&t version.
3. Official android version of the galaxy s2 models is jelly bean 4.1.2 which also is required by Google search and Google now. I assume it doesn't matter rather you have android 4.1.2 or 5 regarding the voice recognition.
3c. At the moment it's not possible to install Lollipop on a S2 but it may be possible in the future. You'll have to root your phone therefore and flash/install a custom rom based on lollipop.
3d. Like already mentioned earlier you'll need to root your phone in order to get past android 4.1.2. Depending on your phone model (2b.) It can be extremely easy or a bit more difficult. I'm just used to the international version gt I9100 which can be rooted with an app via one tap. That aside there are various step by step tutorials, as the galaxy s2 is a very popular phone.
If you'll root your galaxy s2 I highly recommend to Google emmc brick bug before doing so.
3e. All official android versions can become slow after some time, especially because of not removable, pre installed apps. With root you have the possibility to remove those and make your phone faster. If you intend to stay on official firmware you should update to the latest (4.1.2).
Talking about getting slower with higher android version is a bit difficult here. Theoretically with higher android version the phone will get faster....at least that's what Google says.
However as already said the galaxy s2 is stuck on 4.1.2. The only way to get higher are custom roms and those can be slow or fast no matter on which android version they are based.
For example cyanogenmod 10.1.3 is the fastest firmware I've had till now and it's based on Android 4.2.2. Jelly bean. Next there's for example aicp rom based on 4.4.4 KitKat. This version wasn't very fast for me. Another KitKat rom, NeatROM, however was faster than aicp although it has same android version.
It always depends on your personal phone, because each phone (or each galaxy s2 in your case) reacts a bit different to it's firmware and also on the way the developer made their custom roms.
You'll have to find out there
