I unrooted, installed stock ROM and downloaded the OTA ics but when I clicked OK to install it the phone rebooted, showed the unpacking symbol, progressed about 1/4 inch and then stopped with the error symbol.
Hitting the power button reboots into recovery, rebooted and went through the same thing.
I wondered if the download was faulty so next time I was in recovery I wiped and rebooted, re-downloaded the ICS update with the same results.
I thought I'd install the OTA ICS before trying to sell the phone but how can I? Anyone know what's wrong?
Temporary fix: Removed SIM, put SIM back in Galaxy S3 and all is well but that doesn't help the T'bolt get updated!
The ota won't apply to the stock Rom if you have any system apps removed.

I've done nothing to the stock ROM other than install it. When setup starts I selected English, skipped on ahead and went to setting, clicked stay awake, etc. and then downloaded the ROM.
NOTE: I unrooted, I can't remove any system apps can I?
Well my next suggestion would be to use the all-in-one tool to root, unlock and get s off. Flash the new radios, and then flash the official ics Rom in the development section.

I thought of that but that puts me back where I was yesterday, I don't know why but I really don't like to sell a rooted phone, I'd prefer getting it back to stock.....
OTOH I hate to spend more time with it...
I didn't realize you were selling it. Put it on swappa. Sell it rooted.

I guess I'll have to, I'll probably put NuSenseX on it, that's what was on it when I unrooted..... Might as well give the buyer a nice present.
Damn, another project for tomorrow, still got a scooter to finish wiring...

Hey guys. I just got my brand new galaxy s2 and I'm loving it. But as of right now the latest software update is 2.3.6. Now I'm on 2.3.4 and I checked for a software update and it says I'm on the latest software.

My understanding is that AT&T is rolling it out to in waves. Eventually you'll see the update. They just can't, and don't want to, put it out to every [email protected] at the same time.
From what I've read, if you're planning to root your phone, it's much easier and better supported to do it from an earlier version.

AT&T does this in case the update has a problem that missed their QA process.
I'm fairly certain they are rolling out the update fairly slowly - there were even rumors that it might have been pulled for a while. People getting the OTA have had a LOT of complaints.

The reason you see so many 2.3.6 based ROMs in development is because a few developers took a gamble - they guessed that the UCKK6 leak might be a final release that could go official, and they were right. We had access to a full UCKK6 2-3 weeks before anyone received an OTA.
Note that many of those ROMs are appearing to have a few issues:
1) Weird wifi compatibility issues not present in UCKH7
2) Bluetooth HID is broken - no mouse/keyboard pairing

Thanks bro. I appreciate that. Now I'm about to root using either super one click or the zedomax way and I just wanted to confirm this with you. If you root using either Super One Click, or Doomlords version of the zergrush exploit, you will still retain the stock kernel and be able to get the update without additional changes. If you update while rooted, you will retain root on UCKK6.
I'm not sure, but if you use the zedomax kernel to root, you may lose device manager and therefore not be able to check for the update.

Am I supposed to take the battery out or something. It says do not turn off so I'm a bit confused.
You should not interrupt download mode during a flash, of course, because bad things will happen. However, if the flash is finished, or if you put the phone into download mode without starting a flash, just hold down the power button until the download screen goes away, and the boot screen appears. You can also just pull the battery.

Lol. Yeah. I didn't start a flash at all. I used pda net to get the drivers and upon connecting it didn't work. So thanks. I think I'll use the zedomax way and then flash entropy's daily driver through clockwork mod. I can do that right?
That should work fine.

I don't know what would be causing the problem. Some posters indicated that you need to have all the bloatware on the phone, as well as the stock kernel, but I don't know if that is true or not.
I know that when I tested it, I started out on UnNamed. I Used the Odin One-click downloader to put UCKH7 stock plus root, and then updated succesfully. The first time I did it, I forgot to do a data wipe, so after I pulled the files I was getting, I did a data wipe, installed the UCKH7 stock plus root and updated again. The update worked flawlessly on both occasions, retaining root.
So the only thing I can suggest is do a wipe data/factory reset in recovery, install the Return/Unbrick to stock UCKH7 plus root package, and then update. I would think that would clear anything out that would prevent the update.

Howdy,
Over the past week or so VZW has been trying to do an OTA to my bolt.
I'm rooted with a stock ROM, because I mostly focus on themes for stock ROMS (Until I get a better handle on it) I'm not as good with flashing, but I understand it & can certainly follow directions.
I have CWM/ROM Manager installed, but my question is how can I get VZW to stop trying to send the OTA? I'll flash a ROM from the list under the Development section if this is the issue, but I'm a bit hazzy on which one since only a few seem to have been updated in the past few weeks.
My current setup is below, but I'm more than willing to update to something else:
Android 2.3.4
HTC Sense 2.1
Software 2.11.605.9
If it is as simple as making a back-up, downloading one of the ROM's on the Development page, putting it on the SD card, wiping the data, flash & enjoy then I'm good with that, but I'm just not real familiar with things like upgrading to a new sense from an older one & if that is ok.
Thanks
You can either flash a ROM, or flash this through recovery.
(Put the zip on the sdcard, In ROM Manager, select reboot recovery, in recovery select install zip from sd, choose zip from sd, and select OTABlock.zip. Once it flashes hit back and select reboot system now.)
I tried this and im not having any luck. Phone powered on a few min later powers off and tries to update, leaving me with a android guy and yellow triangle with an exclamation point. Tried flashing .19 again but no luck.

Thanks for the quick reply & I shall do this to stop the OTA push from occurring once I'm home, unless - If I flash a (current) ROM from the development page, will it also stop the OTA from trying to update?
And is PRI Version the Radio?

I got the Gnote about 2 weeks ago and stupidly went and flashed a bad rom. Got bricked. Sent out to mobiletechvideos and it will be arriving tomorrow. I will get it about 1 hour before I have to leave for work, but I'm hoping to be able to use it while at work - so the question is what is the easiest, fastest way to flash from a just-unbricked galaxy note that was flashed with bad rom to COMPLETELY LIKE NEW stock ICS?

L.R.D. got it ..
Just take your time with pushing files via Odin etcetera.
And wiping caches/data is critical to good clean flashing.
If a question pops up ......ASK US !!!
Otherwise ....welcome back to the original badass phone ....g
Okay, a new problem. After flashing to stock, flashing stock modem, i was sucessfully able to upgrade to 4.0.4 through Kies.
Now when the phone boots up it tells me com.gapps has stopped working and android.phone has stopped working among other things (calendar too now).
It also freezes when i try to go in to any app or settings and keeps giving me android.phone has stopped.
What do I do now?
Edit aaaand i fixed it all by myself lol
Went in to recovery and did full data/cache reset and blammo all working no prob 4.0.4!
Told ya too wipe first .....LOL
It makes a huge difference huh ?
Good work and enjoy ....g

Recently just received a warranty replacement Note 2 and of course first thing I did was root and unlock it. After flashing a rom a indicator would pop up saying TWRP had lost root permissions and after selecting okay, fix permissions for it. I wrote it off not thinking much of it but after flashing a different rom the same pop up appeared again, still no problems. Finally my phone started locking up and today it eventually bricked up as I flashed a rom. No biggie, I flashed back to stock and am good to go but I just want to know if anyone else has come across this same issue as well?

Going through the exact same thing right now, same situation and all, did you get this worked out? I flashed back to stock just a couple minutes ago and am now in the process of flashing a custom rom again. Never experienced this before and been flashing on this phone the Note 2 since October. New phone, new problem. Used the Toolkit to do everything every time I get a new phone. This is my third.

What OS you on? Try a different cable and different usb port. Use the drivers from mskips all in one tool from the forum. Have you tried adb devices to see if it recognizes your device? If you haven't rebooted you rig lately do that and your device as well. I had this happen for a minute on Win8 I had to manually point the driver update to the file I wanted to use.

Way back when I got my Note 2.... the version of casual actually flashed a wrong TWRP , it was the one for the international Note 2.
The fix was to simply install the newest TWRP for our phone (SCH-i605)

Installed jelly boom domantion rom, worked fine untill i select the boost mode opition. Then along the way driving with gps phone blinked, and start this boot loop. It was not a normal boot loop because it said samsung restart....and i could not get recovery to load either, the team win recovery mod. Now i did everything right because working rooted phone with custom rom. So solution was to do a nand erase all and install stock rom. Yes i got the right stock, because on odin mode the binary says samsung offcial but system says custom. That was no help either still samsung and same thing. Took it to best buy they had no clue either, so they are ordering a new phone...they said could be bad battery or the phone. They also mentioned that the official sprint updates cause boot loops. Now i pretty much have a dead phone, stock rom on it....so when the experts play with it theyll see im brand new out of the box? any ideas what the hell happened?

I think that you've had little response on this because you're asking for an autopsy report with no corpse to dismember, or enough specifics to do a second opinion (we don't know the rev, what other mods you'd installed, or even your baseband, the method you used to install stock--was it the one provided on the development forum?).
If you still had your phone or provided details (logcat, rom build), there'd be folks far more knowledgeable than I whom could provide assistance. That's what these devs do, take pride in their work and go even further by wanting to see you up and running (that could be considered dev integrity or honor, since their name is all they have here).
[That's about the finest combo (free product + extraordinary service) one could encounter. You don't get that at retailers these days, and one pays for the work product.]
Since you've bumped this, I will speculate. Don't use boost mode within Wanam when on JellyBomb, or do under some circumstances. Or, perhaps you had bad hardware. Or...you get the picture.
In the end, I hope you enjoy your replacement, and have a less troublesome experience.
May not be that for which you were looking, but it's the best I could muster.

there is only 1 root method which i have done through odin mode. Then i also flashed the team win recovery as well, and put the jelly bean domanition on it.
Now lets start at the start...first rooted and installed team win recovery and made a back up of stock. Downloading the wrong rom for n905 not n900 what i had, and the rom worked but no internet or service. So then i went and did a restore of the stock that i backuped...then started this boot loop. So watching a video for s4...i selected whipe nand option on odion. So then my phone said unable to boot normal and auto loaded on odin. Then i downloaded stock rom and phone came back to life...so i rerooted and reinstalled team win recovery, and installed jelly bom domantion...every thing was working right. About a month went by with this rom installed then i selected the boost mode and a week later while driving with google maps phone blinked...and it only load samsung not the boot animation, when going into recovery it said loading recovery but it 2 didnt want load and kept restarting. Now thats the basic info i know, and everything i did with my phone...plus i used note cleaner v.05. The phone died while being held in hand using google maps...if its hardware then maybe thats the solution im looking for, but i am not sure this was software...thats why im afarid to root and custom rom this new phone in case this happens again
Also i dont even know how to install kernals....plus even if it was kernal, it worked a whole month. The only thing i know i did different...was select the boost mode option, before that phone was working just fine

Kernals u flash using recovery just like a room on twarp,
wipe system, cache, delvic, flash rom, then flash lean or stock kernal, should solve prob...can use titan backup for data
Direct link for sprint lean kernal:
http://androtransfer.com/get.php?p=imoseyon/hlte-others/lk_hltespr-v1.7.1.zip
can overclock to 2.8ghz as well
AT UR OWN RISK...
Stable for me though

Insane men are always right, you could immediately get this out of the speculative realm by getting your phone back.
What the heck, I'll add to this, he might have flashed a test build that had the beast kernal included.

To me it doesn't. If anyone claims sanity, they are unenlightened.
Changing it would be a sane thing to do, and sort of excise the joy of it.

I don't know much about kernels but I did notice something. The program fast charge requires a kernel that supports it for it to run, on my HTC evo 3d...When I put custom roms on it I noticed the kernel got changed 2 because after installing rom the fast charge worked and sometimes didn't on another rom. So I'm guessing when u install a rom it comes with their own kernal. So how would re flashing the kernal to lean fix it if I installed stock rom

The stock rom is the best method to go because it comes with the stock kernal...i was just saying the kernal that comes with the jellybomb one isnt too stable on devices...so u can flash the rom, then flash a kernal over it (either stock kernal or lean to overclock it more stable than beast kernal that comes with jellybomb)
