Possible to root a GS3 without triggering the binary counter? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to root a Galaxy SIII without triggering the binary counter? And also what is the best way to root and what are the advantages of rooting etc?
Cheers

I don't think it's exactly possibly, but you can reset the counter as far as I know. For the last part, just use the search. button.

Just curious: what's the problem with triggering the counter? It can't be for warranty, because rooting by itself will have the same effect as the counter

It was just a query like if there was a way to root without triggering the counter I'm sure everyone would go for that option, and it was also a case of if anything happened to my phone like I dropped it or it got water damage and I had to send it away for repairs

No the warranty is not a problem, because if you drop it, it's either still functional and you can un root it, or its impossible to check the counter.

Either way I'm going to root it just now, flash CM10.1 on it and upgrade to Android 4.2.1, I can't be bothered waiting for my carrier to push the 4.2 update never mind it's next update after that

[Q] Back to stock for the Galaxy 10.1?

Hi, I was hoping someone could direct me to the back to stock file so I can unroot this galaxy tab 10.1 I had a friend root it for me, but I honestly, at least for this tablet have had nothing but problems. I cannot stand the inconsistancies, and lack of camera use. I did a restore to what I thought was stock, but the tab is still rooted and while I have functionality of the camera's back, the pictures are terrible and grainy.
If someone has a link, or anything helpful to get this tablet back to stock/factory settings for I'd love it. I have been currently trying to fix this. I loved this tablet until it got rooted. Please help.

Uninstall superuser.
And use root explorer to remove "SU" file from: /system/bin/SU or /system/xbin/SU
Howndo you uninstall superuser. This whole rooting madness is driving me crazy. Ive yet to see any real benefit to it. At least on my tab.

Unsure if this thread will even be seen anymore, but I just saw an article for the program triangle away. Since I have flashed this tab several times, I am about to send it into the mfg for repair for the cable charge problem it was having. I'm wondering. Will I need to unroot this tab again, use triangle away and reflahs again? Or is this model exempt from the flash counter?

Triangle away does work tested on s3 i9305 lte which i returned due to constant freezing and that was reset correctly. That was running EE firmware and the one i got as a replacement wont reset i think this is because the imei number is not preset therefore keeps coming up with modified. hope they dont make a big deal out of it instore

usb port broken
send to official samsung repair service
they wanted 48 € for flashing original rom and setting binary counter to zero
i said no
wanted to reset the binary counter but they still flashed the original rom -.-
so i couldnt root the device, reset the binary counter, refrlash original rom to send it to them
so i bought for 2,50 € at ebay a new usb port
went today to my univerity laboratory and tried to repair it by myself
i didnt heated the pads good enough so two pads teared out
the "new" port was overheated so i need a new one
i cant charge my battery now (i use a dock station by mumbi to charge one battery and i have two batteries)
i dont want to waste more time to repair those pads to buy a second new usb port and apply it too
life's pain
Why do you want to root ??
Any work done on the phone like fix USB port voids warranty anyway .

*EDIT*
so... i want to flash cyanogenmod now. i think, i have to flash CWM recovery with mobile odin now. im sure, there are enough threads for this issue. thanks all! (thread can be closed)
and a last thing: warranty is void because of the pads are teared out.
on that pic the pads are behind that micro usb port: http://www.jann.cc/_images_big/rpi/Raspberry_Pi_side.jpeg
the port wasnt heated enough, so there was a mechanic stress, that the SMD Pads teared out. to repair that, it is very hard and our university laboratory dont have fine enough tools for that and we can build printed boards until 150 micrometers. im studying microsystems (or in english it is called maybe MEMS (micro electro-mechanic systems) engineer!?) i really can live with the method to use more than one batteries and to charge the one which is empty while the full one is in the smartphone.

It works. It was confirmed by someone in that thread, but I don't have the link. It shouldn't trip knox either.
Root without tripping Knox? Thought that was impossible as Knox is in the bootloader.. Hmm.. May take a look at this when i get my S5. I don't have any sort of warranty on it as i got it from swappa. But interesting.. Wonder what Sammy is gonna do bout this since they just got a number of devices confirmed for enterprise due to knox.
I can confirm this, I have just rooted my Tmobile S5 and my knox flag says 0x0 I'll post a picture in a second. This method works for us.
Works great! Can't comment about Knox as mines already tripped, but root is super easy as the tethered method as well

So far so good
I gave the towel apk a try and I must say an excellent and easy root . I went from slim rom back to nc5 stock uprooted . Down loaded root checker pro then from the stock browser I downloaded the apk file . No problems with my reinstall of twrp. No problems flashing a new rom . Will say that busy box needs to be reinstalled but having no problems at all :good:

Did it reset your Knox counter when you rooted with towelroot? If so, did the counter stay at 0x0 after you reinstalled TWRP? I'm already rooted and using TWRP so the only advantage to me would be to clear that Knox counter.
Well I have never been concerned with knox so I didn't notice an actual 0x0 but I will say all Samsung apps updated. Also I had no warnings on boot . Until flashing a kernel . Unless I've been told wrong that has little to do with my equipment replacement warranty so my thing with knox is solved with a??

Am I wrong in thinking that rooting isn't what trips KNOX, it's the installing of a custom recovery? I just want to figure this out before rooting my device.

So if anyone has a link to tell me otherwise i would love to know why Knox is such a concern . i got my note a few weeks after the release and tripped my knox asap .1. if your in contract you most likely have a warranty so bust the sucker into bits and learn a lesson . No updates from sprint or samsung the problem so what !!! i have yet to see an ota compare to the custom roms i run and eventually we will get the update/feature . The absolute only down side i see at this point is most likely the replacement note3 wont have the snapdragon or will it ? sprint usually sends you a refurb . I really ask this honestly I have been flashing for 4 years and barely could chicken peck the keys on my pc when i started . my day to day job is as a master plumber so i never touch computers , but 4 years later and going through an evo, epic 4g touch / briefly a s3 AND A NOTE 3 ON SPRINT NO LESS . I HAVE YET TO SCREW UP MY SAMSUNGS SO BAD THEY TRUELY HARD BRICKED. Im a risk taker I used towel 10 min after i first heard of it . My advice to a total noob is if you think you bricked but it comes on at all its not a brick give it 2 or three days and do your home work most likely a fix will be or is available . If its as sammy from sprint rwilco12 repository is a life saver . Please let me know what IS the trip in tripping knox if any one can and happy flashing. :good:  took me all them years to finally post in the forums lmao
