What custom ROM's would you recommend for the DNA? I'm leaning towards Viper's. I'd appreciate some suggestions on a stable, daily driver ROM to give a shot.
Viperdna won't want to try anything else after trying that.

Thanks for the response. Care to help me understand something here though? Do I have to start with 1.1.0 and step up to 1.1.1 and then 1.1.2 and then 1.1.3 or do I go right to 1.1.3? Or do I start with 1.1.0 and jump right to 1.1.3?

Hi guys
So I will picking up my Droid DNA early next week - it is still factory standard.
I want to apply the new update that was just released and also use the ViperRom
What steps are required and in what order.
i.e.
1. Unlock bootloader (which is current best method?)
2. Root (which is current best method?)
3. Install OTA update (new verizon one that just came out this week)
4. Install ViperRom
I am in Australia on Telstra network if that matters?
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.
Cant wait to try out the DNA, I have always loved the look of this phone since I first saw it :fingers-crossed:

From what i understand, you have to install a new rom just to get root access.

No you don't have to. All you need to do is unlock the bootloader install a custom recovery and then flash the superuserbusybox zip and that's how you get root access

It took me a little bit to get my "sea legs" as it were, but it really was a pretty smooth process overall. And Viper is ridonkulous. The customization is crazy.
Good luck.
Flashing the ROM right away will give you root access, but if you want to play around with the stock rooted rom for a bit, you can just flash the superuser zip in recovery: http://androidsu.com/superuser/
Oops, didn't realize there was a second page and someone already posted the answer lol. Sorry.

What exactly is this? I mean, I get it's a ROM and it's Sense, but what's special about it? I only ask because we've got quite a few Sense ROMs out, just want to know what you've done so far.

Thanks for the feed back guy's/girl's. I'll try and solve the issue, but it's quite tricky building a Rom for a device you can't test on. expect another link up later on today.

Well I love that the sense rom development is in full swing but lack of battery and the lag annoys me so very much. and I chose to share my work with a community that can appreciate it. this Rom has been sitting on my pc for some time, I was expecting an upgrade but I'm still waiting and I want to have a flash ready Rom for when I get the device and also after I root it.
@OP - the sideload errors people are getting in your zip is:
1) use edify if you are using amend
2) the update binary needs to be API v3

I did a superwipe and then had the sideload error7 on any and everthing that i tried to flash. I ended up running the stock rom through the bootloader to fix issue then re rooted the phone.

Hi, my name is Travis, I've been a verizon slave since 2009 with the bb storm. Moved to a droid then x and x2. I'm currently on an incredible 2 and I hate it. Through much push and pull, I got to keep my service on the incredible and also keep an x2 along with a free extended battery.
I rooted 2.3.5 on the x2 and now looking into roms. My software learning curve isn't steep so I thought I'd send a shout out to the devs and members here. Looking into finding a great rom for the x2 withing the next few day.
Oh yeah, I'm leaving in a month for basic in the AF, going into cyber surety(basically legal hacking) and looking forward to it.
Thanks for reading, I'll be around!
Welcome. Every one here is awesome and will help if you need it.
Most all x2 roms are built on 2.3.4
Eciplse is on 2.3.5 though, and is a very good, stable rom.
If you want more excitement than try some of the ics, cm9 based roms. Just know that they are buggy and being worked on. Aokp, paranoid android, and of course cm9.
Cm7 is much more stable then th ics builds and could easily work as a Daily driver.
Good Luck.

I was thinking about the eclipse rom, It looks really nice. It will take a bit. I'm still reading and this forum is huge. I haven't found the "how to" thread yet on roms. Sure I'll find it. Thanks for the warm welcome.
I would check out the Cm7 rom thread. It has some good links to the guides you want as far as sbf, root, nandroid backup and bsr(aka cwm recovery).
Eclipse won't let you down.
If there is anything I can help you with, then don't hesitate to pm me.
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda app-developers app
Welcome aboard sir, and as an AF vet good luck with your service and thank you for stepping up.
As for roms you will find much more action happening with the 2.3.4 build as others have already mentioned. CM7 & 9, PA, AOKP are all based on 2.3.4.
You will absolutely want to find the "How to SBF" thread and get setup for doing an SBF. To my knowledge no dx2 has ever been "hard bricked" but "soft bricking" can and does happen which means SBF is your salvation as of course is nandroid backup. And my last piece of advice would be to make a nandroid backup of 2.3.4 Stock/Rooted, particularity if you are a"flashaholic" as some of us are on here...lol
Anyway welcome to the friendliest forum on XDA.

+1 for eclipse since it is the most stable and sounds like you wont have much time for figuring out any bugs that may occur on the ICS based Roms since you will be serving our country lol. Good luck, and thanks.
Wow. Thanks for all the warm wishes and thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I'll be sure to post back about my Rom upgrade.
I like cm7 for the customizations, I have used eclipse for awhile and it's fantastic as well but i always find myself floating back to cm7. Just curious, there seems to be great roms for the dinc2, what about it did you not like?

First off...welcome! And now on to your question.
After rooting, protecting root with voodoo, and temp unrooting:
Just take the OTA update to 2.3.5 by going to System Updates in Settings-About Phone. Then restore root using voodoo and delete backup.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
System update is the easiest way but to answer your question yes you can just use rsd to get on 2.3.5 b418 because 2.3.5 is now rootable. You don't have to do the long method via voodoo ota rootkeeper any more.

If you have already SBFed and are going to do it that way then yes. Look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317707 for any future questions about SBFing or just ask. If you are already on 2.3.5 then there is no need to sbf because you can just root 2.3.5 now.

If you want root I would play it safe.
verizon / samsung do follow xda and they have been patching holes within their devices. to be safe you should wait for dev to get this file and give you direction.
a day (maybe two) wait will not hurt you! if you jump, it could be month before you get root back.

If you want stock, flash a stock rooted ROM. If you want true stock (no S-Off and locked, stock recovery) follow the guide Pio linked too.
I have been seeing a lot of folks talking about just going back to complete stock to install the update.
Is that the best option? Are we able to root 4.3 yet?
Do you need to reset S-off on the phone or what? I have seen a few different things out there today talking about this. My phone downloaded the update and keeps asking me to install ever so often but of course won't as I don't have the stock recovery console.
All help and info is appreciated!
