Hello to all the XDA community.
The following post is for those who do not feel as comfortable with the galaxy s2 device, with its Mali-400 graphics chip, although the chip itself is very powerful not provide all the features to play the most beloved games in the today. Among those who find: Sprinkles, shadowgun etc etc.
In my opinion, the cell is very fast and I really like the screen, but unfortunately when I take the iPhone 4 of my girlfriend i want to have it for me, because although the chip A4 already has more than a year now can run games that Mali -400 could not run, it's very stressful having to root your phone to play with chainfire3D, only a few games.
I ..... loving samsung galaxy line. This phone will definitely change for the iphone 5
Why? it seems unfair that i have a cell phone much better than the iphone 4 but unable to play most of the best games.

Okay.
Don't buy something unless you know what you're buying. You're gonna be real disappointed when you buy a car and then find out that it doesn't fly or make you bacon.
You're not gonna get much help here, coming into an Android forum and telling us that our phone can't do something an iPhone can. It's not conducive to helpful responses, as it sounds like trolling and is a pointless statement.
It's because game developers are not using industry standard filtering and texture compression for the games. Mali 400 supports industry standards only, so when a game uses a propriety Nvidia or Power vr or whatever branded code, it won't work because to support the code, you need to pay licensing fees to have the hardware support the code.

It does take a nice amount of ****tardation not to realize that iOS is a better platform for games. Next time you'll look more closely before you throw your money on something: don't blame Samsung/Android, blame yourself. Now bye.

Really? Is it stressful?
You should put more effort into deciding what devices are right for you before buying them...
Aside from the GS2 being arguably the best phone available right out of the box for everything aside from tegra-optimised games (which as others have stated is due to developer's lack of support for industry standards used by the GS2 rather than the other way around)... Like most android devices it's most suited to those who like to tinker and customise.
Buy an iPhone 5.

Yes I was dissapointed that my car didn't make my bacon.
Maybe I should have went to XDcAr and read up on it first to find out that my car could not do it before I bought it.
My car does fly (at an altitude of 0.01mm) - but only where there is no speed cameras about.
OP,I feel ya.When I bought my GS2 I was really disappointed that it didn't make coffee.I called Samsung to solve my problem, but they insulted me.They were very rude man. They told me "Go buy a f*cking coffee machine!".But I bought the best phone available! Can't I do it with an app?
Seriously, although that was a terrible joke, what did you expect man?Nothing is perfect, get over it.My PC can't play Final Fantasy XIII.AND it doesn't support something like Chainfire3D to play PS3 games(**** if it did ).Get over it.Even if you want games that much, there are gazillions of nice games in the Android Market, and more are bound to come. And with the success of the GS2 it's only bound to get better.Just get the heck over it.
Dont entirely blame it on a device for your shortcomings also. Learn to accept some of the blame and you are on your way to maturity.

oh come on peeps why all the harsh replys!!!
he asked a decent question , yes its easy to say if you wanted games buy an iphone4 , at the same time it is still a decent question .
its a shame that the mali is getting left out the cpu/gpu combon on the sgs2 is immense and very very powerfull it would be great to have games like the one linked avalible
i knew the sgs2 wouldnt have every iphone game but when i see games like this i do think , my phone could run this easy and i wouldnt mind playing it , whas wrong with that and asking why the sgs2 doesnt have games like this
maybe it isnt as easy to code for?? we have over 10 million sgs2 users now so the market is there , is it devs being lazy and not porting it , is it hard to port things to the mali , from chainfire 3-d it doesnt seem like its hard to apply stuff to get games working that are coded for say nvidia but what about how hard it is for gameloft to make these games for the mali
to the op , dont worry about some of the negative awnswers i thought it was a decent question and i do think its a shame the mali is being left out a bit when it is soooooo dam good with soooooooooo many users worldwide
have a good day everyone and maybe try to be a bit nicer to fellow users , treat others as you wish to be treated springs to mind as does if you have nothing nice to say maybe dont say anything 2 pages of people taking the mick out of the op for asking a sensible question and saying things like ''my sgs2 wont make coffee'' is just a bit out of order really and isnt anything like what he was saying

SG2
hello to everyone.
Sorry if I offended, some of the users that have this phone.
is not my intention to devalue the SG2, but actually I think that to be the best phone should support any things without any problem, maybe it's difficult because different graphics chip, ATI may start manufacturing their own as well. possibly be deciding whether Nvidia or ATI.
the cell phone itself is very fast and the screen size is the maximum that I would buy for a smarphone to me is very good
If you wanted to phone Mainly for games, you got an iPhone Should Have.
I think all cell phone makers have to have this in their creations, to avoid incompatibility and make users
samsung unfortunately not put the grates 2 in the SG2, definitely would be a very good phone for games too.
but really do not see it? A4 over a year on the market and is still compatible with current games.
many people have the SG2, samsung should invest money so we can play these lines did not sell many games SG2?

Well,I don't think anyone here was actually offended, nor do I think that anyone tried solely to insult you. It's just a matter of asking credible things.Whatever the iPhone is,its architecture and the software it supports haven't changed much(If at all) since the first iPhone.Every version follows the same principles, uses hardware of the same "Family" (eg PowerVR GPUs),so whatever new comes out for a new iDevice,it will instantly become available for its older bretheren.Android is different.I don't think that it will be long before you see this kind of games on the GS2 if you ask me,so in my opinion you should just keep the better device.Guess which one solves the "X=Win" equation.
Kind enough for everyone here?
Hi, I know iv posted a few threads already asking about future proofing of the Galaxy S2 however i have a different question specifically related 2 gaming and game releases and updates not hardware or OS Software.
First question is: after the Galaxy S3 will launch, in other peoples experience with Android, will the games continue 2 be developed for the GS2..aswell as GAME updates, etc? I am fairly new to Android therefore dont know much about it yet or what to expect, but from others' experience, do games still get developed for "older" devices..and if so for how long usually?
Second Question: I always use my GS2 as im a pocket gamer, the big screen is marvelous, always gets me coming back 2 the GS2. Looking at benchmark tests in comparison to iphone 4s, it only has offscreen where the 4S wins hands down... however in Native Resolution(where most ppl play the games...on the phone screen) how much difference is the 4S GPU in terms of performance? Not including offscreen... or does anyone know where to fnd the benchmarks that ARENT offscreen?
the 1 site i found is here and it seems like the GS2 wins in Native Resolution GPU performance:
http://glbenchmark.com/phonedetails.jsp?D=Samsung+GT-i9100+Galaxy+S2&benchmark=glpro21 <---- Galaxy S2
http://glbenchmark.com/phonedetails.jsp?D=Apple+iPhone+4S&benchmark=glpro21 <---- iPhone 4S
I just want to get a bit better understanding of android and my GS2 thats all, thanks
When playing games on iPhone 4S and the Galaxy S2, i actually dont notice too much difference... what would others prefer 2 game on and why?(excluding the fact apple has more games to choose from)??
If gaming is your focus get the iPhone 4s. It has the best GPU atm and games are released on iOS before they get released on Android.
That being said you can use Android to game, too (actually quite well) but the iPhone still wins in that department.
....OH REALLY!!!???
i know the games get released on iOS first... but the small screen is annoying sometimes depending on the game.
I wanted an in depth answer from the benchmarks i posted and all
and btw, gaming is not just my focus, the whole phone is, screen size, how long it'll last, what you are able to do on it, etc... gaming is just my question in focus!

Then your question is much more complicated as all those factors depend on personal perception. As such you should get a hand on both devices (preferrably for a day or longer) and see which one fits your needs.
There's not really THE "in depth answer", but many answers, based on personal opinion.
So all I can offer is my reasons why I went the SGS II route:
a) I love AMOLED
b) I wanted a big screen
c) The reviews I read about it were great
d) It's very light, despite being huge
e) It's so flat
f) More of a general statement about Android: the way to customize the phone I want it, in every single way.
That being said I can see other, huge advantages for the iPhone, too:
a) Retina, it has a higher resolution than the SGS II
b) A big screen is not for everyone as some people prefer smaller phones
c) I love the glass design of the iPhone 4s
d) More games, more apps
e) Strongest GPU on the market, only rivaled by the iPad 2.
Those are my opinions about both phones, based on personal perception (I even bought my girlfriend an iPhone 4s as she has much iTunes music/movies already) and the technical facts.
As I said, that's just my opinion but I hope that you understand now, why I believe, that there is no definite answer.
I think the 2.x.x is a problem, not being optimized for multi core can affect overall performance since the OS mediates all the function calls but i'm not sure.
And being the hardware and software manufacturer always will give Apple some advantage, they can fine tune the software, i honestly think the Android phone lacks this skills.
But AFAIK custom roms can be more optimized than stock ones, i don't know how, but they usually scores better in benchmarks.
For me it's quite simple. Many people tend to enjoy puzzle games and such on their mobiles (e.g. Angry Birds, Cut the rope), because no matter what more complex games are hard to handle on a touchscreen. If you're that kind of person, then the SGS2 is the way to go: i can't see puzzle games becoming too good for this hardware in at least a couple years, plus the AMOLED screen of this device makes cartoonish graphics look really awesome, and the huge sizes deliver you a great experience.
Otherwise, if you want console quality games on your phone, with a complex story, complex controls and amazing 3d graphics (e.g. Shadowgun, Modern Combat 3) then the iPhone is the only way to go: it will be supported for a long time and its hardware will grow older much slowly because of the dedicated development.
Imho at the end of the day complex games will never be very suitable to a mobile device: controls have to be weird and unintuitive, and will take up most of the screen; also, they're not very suitable to be played on the go. Games like Cut the rope for example are a much better option when you are on the go, they will take much less effort and headaches to be played and in the end will give you more fun. All in all mobile games should be those time wasters we can use while we need to wait for the bus or something like that, a fully blown gaming experience feels out of place imho. I've played most of the high end 3d games to date on my device, but if i think about it most of the times i did i was at home on the couch, while instead i hardly touched them while on the go, when simple games like Trial X or Cut the rope are the best way to have fun imho. In the end you gonna do what i did, and realize that high end games are a waste on mobile devices, because they are so complex and involving that the only way to enjoy them is being at home, where you can have your console/gaming pc and have much more fun. Just my 2 cents.
u want gaming get an iphone
u want a bigger screen get sgs2
u want gaming on a big screen

You can have an idea looking in the SGS1 forums. Probably when SGS3 be out on the shelves, SGS2 will receive the same treatment SGS1 is receiving since SGS2 was released.
^ Very likely right.
The price we have to pay for this open plattform is that there's a high degree of fragmentation. I wish they would make phones a bit more expensive, but stop releasing them so fast.
Then again:
the advantage of Android is, that we don't have to rely on Samsung at all, when it comes to updates.

Ok, i'll write it down in more simple manner, directly addressing your op:
1)Benchmarks mean NOTHING, especially when comparing 2 completely different platforms, ran in a completely different manner. Anyway, fwiw the gpu in the iPhone is about twice as powerful as the one in the the GS2, so expect that the high end games specifically designed to take advantage of the a5 soc will SUCK on the GS2 simply because there's no comparison. They may be ported to the GS2 because it's a well selling phone, this is very likely to happen, but they'll probably have much less detail/effects and will probably lag and stutter. You can't really see that now, but trust me: in a few months some of those will come out, and you'll know i was right.
Even assuming that the GS2 will be fast enough for those (and it won't) they will still run better on the iPhone, basically because Android games are ports of games which were born with the iPhone hardware in mind.
2)iPhone version will always be the one relased first, and also the one receiving more updates/bugfixes (e.g. the iPhone version of MC2 has more maps in the multiplayer version).
Now i'll also write it in caps so that you won't have more doubts about it: GET THE FREAKING IPHONE.
just like what vnvman said

Android also has a much greater market share than IOS (44.8% compared with 27.4%) - its no surprise that the Android Market is set to surpass the Appstore in 2012 as Android IS EVERYWHERE! Developers can earn much more money developing for the majority! .... Apple are seriously worried, releasing this poo iphone and Steve jobs dying aswell. Oh Dear - samsung & google are booming,
Ice cream sandwich is supposed to give our GPU a massive boost, so exciting times.
Apple does seem to get the games first, however as ive said - this is slowly changing, ive also failed to see a game run smoothly on the SGS2.
Browsing, watching movies and playing touch screen games are much better on the bigger screen, with the much better colours. You have to remember, on a 3.5in screen, your fingers dont get any smaller!
I wouldnt go for the iphone, its a poor release from apple, i think its more of a desperate release than anything.
Sure, the screen on the iphone does have a greater resolution, there is no denying this - however, they fail to tell you that this is only noticeable when zooming in 'further than' a double tap zoom. They also fail to mention that the iphone screen as a contrast ratio of 1400:1, the SGS2 is 100000:1 (everyone sees the contrast without zooming in, its the vibrant colours, the depth of colour and the blackest blacks etc)
But half the ram?
No customization?
Smaller screen?
Thicker?
Heavier?
Easily smashed?
No flash still?
No external sd slot?
No hdmi slot?
Underclocked 800mhz cpu?
Smaller battery?
No bluetooth file sharing?
Poor integration to social media?
I could go on...
to me - the SGS2 is a clear choice.

3d intensive high-end game development takes time and I think those games are optimized not the latest but a strong mainstream hardware in mind. I think gs2 have enough juice to deal with any upcoming games for a year or two especially on a 800x480 screen. Iphone pixel count is cca 33% more so needs a 33% stronger gpu for the same performance and cpu performance is inferior. At the end I do not think that in real life gaming a 4s could really show its gpu advantage.

Not a big fan of benchmarks myself, but I have looked into GLBenchmark comparisons between the 4S and the S2. Here are my impressions:
- Both the S2 and 4S are essentially vsync limited for the Egypt and Pro onscreen tests, comparing them therefore is pointless. Although what I would say is it becomes exponentially harder for a framerate to get closer to 60fps when vsync limited, what I mean is it's harder to go from an average of 58fps to 59fps than to go from 57fps to 58fps.
- In the offscreen tests run at 720, you should expect all devices to have a reduced framerate from their native resolution for obvious reasons. The 4S is the only device I have found in the results database (with a lower than 720 native res) where the framerate actually increases. This strikes me as rather suspect and I would suggest that the iOS implementation of GLBenchmark is somewhat ballsed up.
- When I ran a lot of the specialised benchmarks used GLBenchmark what I saw is that actually a number of the tests are vsync capped at 60fps for the S2, so even overclocking the GPU does not increase scores. Somehow the 4S gets around this cap also on the individual tests and so its scores are significantly higher naturally. Furthermore the tests which are capped on the S2 are the ones where it already outscores the 4S. The GPUs on the 4S and S2 are very different and so you would expect them to perform better at different things and this is borne out in the results here.
Essentially what this means is that even with the cross platform nature of GLBenchmark, you still can't really compare the GPUs or 3D performance. I have yet to come across a game that has produced any noticeable framerate drop on the S2 and so it surely fits the purpose at least until the next generation of phones come out. It is only likely to get more buttery smooth under ICS and so I can't see anyone having a reason to complain.
Question boils down to do you want the earlier access to games or do you want the freedom of android? It seems to me we are seeing more simultaneous releases than in the past and the reported numbers from the App Store vs the Android Market are suggesting that Android is catching up fast in revenue terms in which case timing may be a moot point in the near future.

Just bought my tab 10.1 like a week ago, but as soon as I turned it on, I could noticeably see it run much slower than my Desire..
By slow, I mean the homepages take so long to rotate, bringing widgets or apps to homescreen or relocating them takes a few long seconds etc
the actual running of apps is not a problem
dunno.. dualcore, 1GB RAM.. thought it would make me wanna throw my phone away but it's completely the opposite atm..
Stock with all the apps loaded and the system not cleaned up, yes the tablet will be a lot slower, the displays anywhere will almost never give you the real experience because its soo overwhelmed with crap to show how fast it is. If you keep tasks killed via the Samsung task killer and don't just leave the tablet to fend for itself then it will be just as fast as your phone, for a faster than phone experiance, root, and install task 14 or overcome and your tablet will cruise and do so much more and fastern than your phone
At least we couldn't brick our cell phones back in the 80s ... they were already bricks

I feel you dude, the tab is seriously slow on touch widz 3.1. Since its using the slowest dual core, the tegra 2.
My sgs2 is much faster in every way. Even apps are smoother.
Flash overcome rom made it much better since its upgraded to 3.2.
But still slower than a phone.
Finally the kang ics rom made it on par in terms on UI smoothness.
Sorry you receive so much bad comments here. Most people don't feel the pain.
After spending so much money, naturally we expect the best experience out of the box.
Sgs2 is great, superbly smooth without the need of any mod or custom roms.
But the tab out of the box experience is just bad.
Don't be a whiner, you already bought the tab, learn the flash custom rom and you'll be happy,
Despite being slower than sgs2, I still prefer using the tab as bigger screen is really much comfortable for browsing.
@Ray1, It isn't the whole idea of raging at someone over a touch device, Hell even the first Glofish/Windows based touch phones were slow as HELL, I just feel that people have forgotten what it's like to have, I don't know, patience?
Sure it's a smart device, but also realize that the loading is based on how much information it has to process, Compare a 4" screen to something that is 10" it's like comparing Windows 95 and Windows XP, In a 4" device you would have everything served asap only because the DPI is lesser compared to the tablet, I feel that your comparison of the fastest smartphone in the market at the moment versus the tablet which was supposed to be an upgrade of the 7" tablet is somewhat unfair. I guess some people can't learn to appreciate, and it's all about bringing up the "car theory" of what is the fastest.
Just so you know, no offence in any of this, but the tablet was built to handle ICS. If the Google Nexus was running HC or Gingerbread, you would even rage at how horribly slow it is. Don't blame the system for being slow, blame the OS, just a minor update, Smartphones had the evolution of smoothness from Eclair>Froyo>Gingerbread where as tablet's are still in their first era of figuring out its era of smoothness, however ICS is the perfection of what HC had failed to provide and they just didn't care about pushing it out onto the next HC update because it would be pointless to try and fix something that was way past it's testing phase, better example would be trying to upgrade a Windows XP when you have an i7, you wouldn't touch the XP now that you have an i7 now would you?
@Benzo I completely agree with you on your POV
Edit 2: I want to keep this on topic.
@xcly - Yes you are right it seems. Many smartphones are faster than tablets.
My wife's Droid (something) I can't remember the model, I just tested switched screens instantly while my tablet takes a second to render the graphics and move to a different screen. Sorry you're disappointed with your purchase.

You should definitely try out the cm9 pre alpha build, my tablet was equally as slow, almost unbearably, to the point where there was lag when using the keyboard. But cm9 is quick and speedy and if you don't mind losing the camera on ur tab for awhile definitely worth the update.
ah well at least i know i'm not alone in this tablet slowness :/
you know.. i would've rooted it the first second i got it out of the box but it's not just for my own use so really don't have a choice on flashing a better ROM
will probably have to get meself a new phone instead lol
Tablets are also pushing more pixels than a phone with the same processor hence the UI lag

Compare a 4" screen to something that is 10" it's like comparing Windows 95 and Windows XP, In a 4" device you would have everything served asap only because the DPI is lesser compared to the tablet, I feel that your comparison of the fastest smartphone in the market at the moment versus the tablet which was supposed to be an upgrade of the 7" tablet is somewhat unfair.

its been awhile since i check this thread.
seems that some post were deleted. lol...
seeing how long post gets deleted, i shall keep my opinions as brief as possible.
excuse for tab10 being slow due to big screen resolution is invalid.
galaxy note and tab 7.7 similar resolution, but they are very smooth with no lag.
great experience out of the box.
reason: they use the exynos chipset similar to sgs2.
the performance is great. such as loading apps, actually running them, scrolling, rotating. there is virtually no lag.
My hate here, and rant, is mainly towards NVIDEA and their hopelessly weak procerssor and GPU. tegra2 is failure, tarnish android image. so sad that all first gen tablet uses it. makes majority average users feel android is slow.
lets make playing field fair and compare base on category.
tablet: tab7.7 powns tab10.1 and every other tegra2 tab out there. benchmark and real life usage.
phones: sgs2 powns lg optimus 2x and motorola atrix(use tegra2 as well). if want to be more fair, just compare optimus 2x, since atric has qhd screen.
i always knew tab10.1 use tegra2, but i still bought it thinking there isn much difference(i was so naive at that time). but its really really bad. HC makes it even worst. as the thread starter mention, its really a shame tab slower than phone.
look at the competition. i'm not apple fan, but i admit it, ipad2 is just soooo smooth and fast. (of cos it has its limitation and weakness), but over all user experience is smooth. the tab10.1 in the out of the box state is just.....sad.(dont want to elaborate).
i'm not a whiner. since i spend so much $$ for it.
i force myself to learn about rooting, and flashing rom. now on kang ICS, the performance is in the acceptable range.
tegra2, the first dual core, also the weakest and slowest.
tegra3, first quad core. but i'm not interested, will wait and see what TI and samsung offer.
take a look how tegra 3 get powned by TI's dual core.
being the first does not guarantee good performance.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 with MIUI.
I have a P7500 3G with CM9 KANG ICS.
I have used both for web browsing and I did see my phone as faster until I set my CPU of my tablet to 1.4ghz.
It really has made a difference and my tablet browsing is awesome and quick.
I would also try using the Google Chrome Beta Browser. It makes web browsing a dream
Is there any way of speeding up the scrolling between homescreens? I prefer not to root.
Also for me the speed is disappointing. Used to the Ipad and Galaxy S2.
Without widgets it is somewhat faster but widgets is the nr. 1 reason to go for Android.
Huib
Wow this thread is over a year old now lol. You can't do much without rooting I'm afraid..
Disable all system apps you don't use and see if that makes any difference. Otherwise, it's root and freeze more apps or flash custom roms.

Processor Single Core 800 mHz armv6 = I like that this processor were Dual Core 1,2 gHz arm7
Screen and Resolution = 3,5'' and 320x480 ? lol... id prefer a 4,3'' 800x480 (Same as S2)
Low Internal Memory : I solve this problem by partitioning my SD card, but when i bought my phone,i dont know much, and this problem made me piss out some times :///
So thats it,post whats the thing that you dont like of Galaxy Ace and as you would like it to be

App drawer unsorted
I installed a bunch of apps after being given this phone went to app drawer and what the heck no sort option everything is jumbled.
Expect at least a basic A-Z order.
Calender cant do custom repeat interval - every x days, incredible , had to connect to google to even start the bloody calender !
Wallpaper, again bareboned, trying to set custom wallpaper it doesn't seem capable of resizing the image, had to download an app
which is adware lading brrrr.
Overall Im getting a bit disillusioned with android, most apps on the phone are really barebones . i know i can download from the
app store etc , but one assumes for a reasonable phone reasonable software.
And most so called free apps are addware to boot, I dont have a data plan. so you end up paying in a way anyway.
At least it manages to play my ogg's, which is its primary use, cant see it being usefull for much else really.
Tried a number of roms, but found none stable enough, so flashed back to 2.3.6 stock.
Not trying to sound rude, but this thread is kinda pointless. My Ace is 1 of 2 androids I have and it is the main one I use. I simply love the phone. It's a low end phone so, yes it does have it's limitations. Would you expect a smart car to perform like a lambourghini? of course not. This is a phone that has lots of potential, which is why there are so many roms being made for it, and so may scripts to expand the funcionality of the phone. In short, it is easy to make it YOUR phone.

Ok. I am a s3 user for last month. But disappointed on s3 multitasking capabilities. Seriously If u r playing a basic game like angry birds and if u got a call in middle after finishing call the game reload s itself. Wtf. My old lg optimus net with 512mb ram and arv6 800 mhz pro works good at these things. I was able to use uc browser, equilizer app, songs playing in background and also whats app same time on lg op net. But on s3 having quad 1gb ram it sucks. Some times it reloads equilizer app also that hardly takes 2 or 4 mb
I guess because sammy has loaded so much bloatware that leads to 650 or 700 mb ram always in use. What is the use of these specs then????? :banghead:

Yeah, it isn't. They've really messed it up.
There's nothing that we can do about stock, though. Just move on or go for a custom ROM/kernel.

It's not due to the bloatware. It's actually a problem with ICS and jellybean. They just use more ram than the older versions of android. For example, my old galaxy s could multitask amazingly well on froyo 2.2.1 but not as well on gingerbread and worse on cm10. Similarly, your lg optimus was probably on froyo of gingerbread, which inherently use less ram. Even if you disabled all the s3's bloatware, you'd only get a minor increase in multitasking capabilities. In order to multitask well on ICS or jb, you'd need 2gb of ram. Hopefully, android 5.0 will optimise ram usage and make multitasking better on 1gb ram phones.

Hmmm thank u for not bashing me. I thought I might have hurt the ego of sammys fans. But really unrooted and on stock it really suck. No use of quad core and gig of ram. Any other solution than rooting???
Yup my op net is on gingerbread 2.3.4 hope that 5.0 will resolve this issue. How u ppl managing this?? Even while using xda app I just pressed home button to check new sms and in background sonsgs also playing. After replying to sms I tap on xda app and guess what it reloads. I tried 4.2 leak and Samsung improved memory management on it but that leak has it's own share of bugs and I'm back on 4.1 better to wait for new leak or final product.

No, no; I wouldn't bash you for this. The multitasking issue is a big thing and has been present for a long time. For example, look at my review post and look at the list of negatives: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37700176&postcount=9061
Multitasking really, really sucks on the S3! Samsung have done an awful job.
I really hope Google can fix two major things on the next iteration of Android's OS;
1) Better RAM management (which would improve multitasking and load)
2) Giving us cloud storage for game data (it would be a huge help for those people who wipe or switch ROMs)
Hmmm really hoping that sammy will fix this annoying issue asap. I dnt want to root and install custome rom just nw. I can experiment with these things on my old lg. Its on jb cm 10 already but camera not working. But my s3 is new so will use it stock. Also afraid of sds.

Well no doubt multitasking sucks on s3. I guess it's not due to jelly bean. My friend's s2 works great on jelly bean and multitasking is great on it. I guess the problem is on software side of s3. 1gb ram its more than enough for handling phones like s3.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
This has been discussed plenty and you're right, it's one of the s3's biggest flaws. The only obvious solution is the only one you can't really do - add ram. That or, you know, hope samsung takes his head out of his ass and actually fixes this since it's rather shameful, but I won't be holding my breath.
But there are workarounds, even if not perfect:
- you can use a custom aosp based rom. There're plenty to chose from. Although i haven't tried how their memory management is better than stock's many people report it is. And they usually use much less ram too and that also helps. The bad side is, since samsung didn't really deliever on the sources they promissed, any aosp rom for the s3 isn't as optimized as it could be. This translates in worse battery life, somewhat more lag than expected, aparently worse camera (from what i heard) that stock stuff... Some people don't even notice other can't live with that - up to you.
- use swap. by installing a swap-enabled kernel you're able to multitask more. This isn't the same as adding ram although it's probably as close as it gets functionality wise. What you're doing is creating a file on either the internal or the external sd that will help with your poor ram managing.
You can get more info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paging if you're ineterested how stuff works. There's also plenty of info on such kernels on the "original development" thread.
There are prices to be paid though, internal and external sd's are never as fast as ram, so you'll probably feel your phone slower overall, even more if you use the external sd which is known to be even slower than the internal sd (card class is a huge factor here since it determines how fast your card is at reading and writing).
Also, since your phone will be constantly writting/reading from sd you're also reducing it's life span. If your internal sd breaks down, you'll need a new phone since the internal sd can't be replaced. If it's the external sd you can just buy another one cheap.
I did try this with an 8Gb class 6 card and a 512Mb swap. Sure it multitasked like a boss but phone was much slower all around. There are reports from people saying they don't notice any slow downs with a class 10 card though. They're rather cheap so i'll give it a try one day.
- sell it and buy the 9305 with 2Gb of ram. Or wait for the new S4. Or, if you're tired of getting shafted by samsung, go for any other brand. To be honest that xperia Z is looking mighty fine lately...
Super nice info friend. Will try other kernel but not nw. Will wait and watch what sammy is gonna do to fix these in next updates??
So many issues wid this flagship droid. Sudden death, exynos abuse, heating issues........

Well, it sucks how the phone just kills, stops or breaks whatever you leave running either in background or when the screen turns off. And it's plainly annoying to see almost every app getting reopened after a while even if nothing significant happened. Since there's no working multitask I'd rather have what apple does for "multitasking". At least apps are reopened where they were left.
But I'm keeping it for a bit more. I guess I could sell it and get the 9305 for little more money but I'm waiting to see whatever new comes out. If nothing pleases me I can always get the 05 at any point later, probably cheaper too. There's a 4.2 rom from Samsung to the s3 just around the corner, and I'm aware this is wishful thinking but who knows...

Have you checked what the multitasking is like in aosp roms?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
2 pages and all of the mockery and nonsense flying all over the wall... You guys should sell your phone really, you lose couple hundreds dollar more and buy HTC or sth....save the b*tching
Solution: swap, lower the low Memory Killer value (original value is too high to keep app initial load faster, apps like system tuner or minfree manager will help), lock app logic (so that app doesn't get kill almost immediately when you use another app in between of a big app.
Reason why the galaxy s3 is so bad at multitasking is that to ensure users of less lags, less forgotten apps running in the background hogging the ram. Unfortunately android doesn't have a "pause in between" feature, but you chose it so find the d*mn mod and stop whining. I use AOSP and don't even say I defend samsung.... I just hate the nonsense...
Edit: Btw, titanium backup is only 6$ or so, buy it and freeze the crapwares if you don't use. Freeze, not uninstall so the next time you update your custom rom it won't reappear.

Not sure what is wrong with your phones
Alright, I have read a lot of threads about this issue, but it always amazes me. I am not sure what is up with your phones. I just did a quick test. I opened messaging to a certain message, opened dropbox to my camera uploads, opened xda to this thread, and opened two games (subway surf and hill climb racing). I am able to switch between them with no reloading, fairly quick goes right back to where I was. Checking my ram I am still at 706MB/832MB. After closing it all down I am at 466MB/832MB.
Not sure what I am doing differently. I am running wanamlite v5.5. I have not done anything else special.
I suggest looking a little closer at your phone. What have you done to it and what is taking your memory. Surely there is something(s) you don't really need sucking up your memory.
I know many people report this issue, but I think everyone has a different situation. I don't see how I have no issue and others do, must be some change on the users part that causes/prevents this problem.
