Somebody wants to sell a RAZR for $50 but the catch is that it has a cracked screen. Assuming the touch screen is working, would I be able to buy an outer glass panel similar to this one for the RAZR M:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Front...883?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item564f9ee533
And swap it out on the RAZR? I don't have any qualms with trying to separate the fusion of the LCD and digitizer, but if I have to buy the LCD + digitizer combo, I'll just save my money and either buy a Nexus 4, Maxx HD, or potentially one of the Motorola X phones that has been garnering a bit of buzz. Thanks for the feedback.
EDIT: Here's a picture provided by the seller.

I'm going to see the phone tomorrow. Anything I should take note of?
Re
Yes, but it's a little bit tricky since the LCD is atatched to the screen, you have to buy the bezel from some guy in ebay and use that, or buy the whole screen + bezel (arround 180 dlls).
I know this because I recently broke mine and got it repaired here in Mexico (it should be a lot easier in USA)

Actually there's no way. When I broke my glass, I realized that the display and the glass were all together. It's very thin and impossible to separate.

My Droid Razr display glass was cracked and the Motorola dealer here in Egypt said that I have to replace not only the glass but the whole display (Glass and LCD).

Clove sells a universal cut-to-fit mirrored screen protector from Echo, for £6 gbp. As if our HD's weren't sexy enough already. I'm going to try one of these. I think I'll just stick the full sheet on, then trim it with an exacto knife. But I'm worried about trimming the small receiver speaker hole. Any suggestions?
with a scalpel?a pointed one...
why not use the original screen protector as a template?
although i would imagine you will need a sharp blade, a good eye and a steady hand to not make it look like a pile of poop
i would think these protectors are meant for those screens that are recessed rather than full frontal (oo eerrr) like the HD is

I bought one of these on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Mirror-Screen-P...h=item220335185106&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262
Fit is perfect (no camera hole), but the colours on screen are a bit weird and screen seems darker. Took it off after a week or so.

whats the screen like when backlit? is it clear? what about texture when scrolling and using stylus?
I had this installed on my HD 2 weeks back. looks nice and shiny, but thats all to it. (bought from ebay)
Drawbacks:
1. The mirror coating is not smooth all over, if u see the above pics, u will see distortion in image on the upper right corner.
2. Very Very bad under the SUN! i really have to cover it totally with my hand, or take it in under a shade to see the screen. (u win some, u lose some!) Good for a few days as a fancy, but then now i am going to remove it off and put a normal clear one again. Had it running all the time on Full brightness - load on battery too! Its good enough indoors with full brightness only, cant use the Auto Brightness control.
I have this on my wife's iphone too, which i got from Javoedge - very good quality that is, and no distortions, but it is a bit thick!
So I managed to crack my screen today right after waking up and dropping the phone. I looked on Dealextreme and it has a replacement case for the whole phone.
MY question is that does that dealextreme case also include the glass screen. Also is there somewhere else I can just buy the screen?
Thanks.
If I understand correctly it is your digitizer that is cracked..
Replacing the touch digitizer is possible but quite a technical thing to do...

They have digitizer screens for the X10 on eBay:
http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=xp...+screen&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313
Get yourself a new digitizer including front cover. Because its really hard to get the digitizer of. It will only cost you 65 on ebay.
I fixed my diamond 2 last time Works perfect now. Not that hard! Take some time and beers
Cheers

Yup ordered a digitizer yesterday for 60 + 15 shipping to canada. I don't trust ebay or paypal much so I pay straight off the credit card. Anything goes wrong I can file a dispute.
I think i 'll buy also a new digitizer because my screen has a lot o scratches. But is there any x10 disassembly video. I searched youtube and i found nothing
It's not really that hard tbh i just replaced my whole phone (case, screen, digitizer) the only thing you need to be extremely safe with is the flex cable to the front keypad.
Heres what phone phone looked like

Here is a complete disassemble guide.

make sure when you are handling the digitizer, to no touch the back of it. Finger oil is a ***** to take off. Use gloves.
Hi guys I have just ordered these screen protectors from Amazon: Ecell Screen Protectors
If anyone has any experience with these please go ahead and add your thoughts.
According to the pictures its just a straight cut screen protector with one hole for camera and one for earpiece and not how the original sony one comes i.e. with the cut out.
I will be reviewing these when they arrive.
Edit 21/08/2012 : Hi guys I ordered off Amazon screen protectors made by MediaDevil. Formerly known as Phonedevil. Two words. Absolutely Brilliant!
The cut is perfect, feels like im typing on a brand new, out of the box phone. When applied properly you cant tell its on.
Its exactly like the ecell one. I.e. The whole screen is covered except its a glossy finish

Ecell are based in Hong Kong but ship from Manchester. They have a plethora of cheap accessories mainly because they are based in Hong Kong so they have the ability to obtain very cheap accessories at a very low price. They also have a plethora of negative reviews and quite a cult following to stop them trading on sites like Ebay & Amazon, for many reasons. My guess is this screen protector would not be of high quality, don't be surprised if the dimensions are not correct also. Just a heads up
Ahh damn looks like I made a mistake. Thanks for the heads up though

I will further review this throughtout the day.
I was however slightly disappointed because theyre anti glare and I like my screen shiney lol but other than so far so good.

The edges look rather rough, is this the case?
Nope its just some air bubbles, but theyve gone out. Ive applied this in a rush so its kinda bent as well but not noticeabley

When you say this, I would expect that the Touch Screen Digitizer to be okay.
It looks like something ran over it. How far did you drop it from?
from first floor, of the stair...
I would take it to a repair shop and see what they say.The screen etc is stuck to a metal plate(you see the edge of it around the screen).
Take it to a couple of places and get quotes.

In Sweden samsungservices will replace the screen for about 100USD (shipping included). I do not no if this is an international offer, but it's woth checking. If it makes you feel any better my new Note 2 looks like that.:crying:
Mine is also cracked, Samsung told me they would replace it for 140€, since they always have to replace screen and digitizer (its impossible to separate them), I looked in many other places and they always told me 190€..
Mine has just a little crack, so I don't mind using it like this, maybe one day I will replace it.
In the netherland they offerd 195 Euro's
I have read topics where they only replace the glass. I have to do it my self, that is not the problem. But need to be sure what to replace..
I am not offering my phone to a samsung service, its to expensive. Tnx for the replies.

I also thought of doing it myself, I searched on ebay and its also expensive, because you have to buy both, this video has shown me why:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?annota...&feature=iv&src_vid=65pvAINg2ME&v=es8gezSdKv4
It hurts to look at the phone and the screen is cracked, doesn't it?

If you are not buying a replacement screen kit then just leave the phone as it is.Your going to end up making it worse.
If you think you know better then get the outer glass and try to remove the old one.If underneath is not broken and you stick the outer bit back on,and it works then youve saved money.
You can then come back on here saying how clever you are.And check a few threads about screen replacement in the general section,as there was a clown saying he had managed it.Cant remember his name but he was posting links to a naff you tube offering. He called himself "cadburyfudge"......or some name chocolate based.

Hi guys, just looking at a phones glass and trying to decide whether it's too far gone to repair. I know it needs a new button also. What do you think?

Ouch.
Well anything is possible but depends on how much money are you willing to spend. Try finding a good deal on ebay for the entire front with digitizer, lcd and button like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...058?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item337f67fb42

You don't think this can get done with just the glass and not the whole LCD replaced?

well anything is possible but from my prior experience with other phones, the adhesive holding the digitizer and lcd together is very strong. When trying to pull it apart it usually cracks the lcd...
So from now on I just usually buy the entire assembly.
The glass is not too hard to replace. I broke mine (not nearly as bad as yours). It took me about an hour to get the old glass off, clean it all up and install the new glass.
Make sure to keep the heat on (I just used a hair dryer) and slowly work your way around. After having a look at the photo I'm not sure the digitizer or buttons will work though. They are both attached by a very thin ribbon at the bottom of the phone, which if damaged won't work.
Holy crap it still works!
