No Market in galaxy S2 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys i need help for my galaxy s2
i want to change the rom of my phone and i have read all the info but i can't find the proper rom file for my phone. i want to change the rom because i come to china and bought s2 and find out they don't have google play in their phones ....FTW....how can we use this awesome phone without market?
in china baidu is prefered on google. so they don't give google play in their country's firmware rom.....so to get rid of this probem i have installed cyanogen 10 and gaps and now have google play icon but it won't connect to the market because in the baseband version google is not allowed....so what i am asking is "can i change the baseband version of my phone?" like the full format hardDrive in computers and then again install the operating system like DOC....????
my phone's baseband version is I9100ZCLPK....and i don't find any pda of this version so i can't change my rom...or can i?....
if this is possible then please let me know....i am fed up of this useless firmware....please answer this...and thanks in advance.

I think u have a wrong view to baseband.
I try to give an abstract view on it:
Important is which phone u have i9100/i9100g/etc...
This is the same like a PC or a MAC.
The baseband is the system u use on the device.
So like u install windows on PC or iOS yo MAC.
So if u flash now a ROM or another firmware, u change or baseband automatically (like upgrading from XP to Win7)
BUT the system for the phones are also optimised for the location u r and the provider in the region.
I would recommend to read a bit here on XDA, how to flash a ROM or at least which firmwares u can use and flash with Odin.
And please, this was a really easy and abstract comparison, which not fit 100%.
But I hope I could open ur eyes a bit to get more into phone and phone systems

I have GT-I9100
i can't find how to flash a rom...i have flashed cyanogen mod 10 and gaps...so now should i have to downgrade or something like that? or just download the rom of my interest and flash it? i downloaded the gingerbread 2.3.5 with asian region...tried to install with odin like the some threads mentioned but in the end the odin box turned red and i don't get any success...after that i tried with the recovery method but installation aborted error appear......am i using the wrong rom or should i have to downgrade it first? but as far as i know there is no downgrade of cyanogen 10 jelly bean upgrade!!!!!! please tell me what to do? or just provide me the best available official rom with market available because the kernel, downgrading or these type of things confusing me a lot and the mehtods i am trying are not working...HElp

[Q] software update not available in kies?

hello!
I have a little problem with my phone/kies. so I wanted to upgrade my OS to ICS (it says ICS is available on the gsm arena website, can't link) after hours of trying to make it connect (turns out USB debugging had to be off) I found out that apparently there is no software update available. screenshot:
OK, I can't post pictures yet, so type the imgur website and add /TsfuB.png if you want to see a screenshot.
it's rooted, and the only other weird thing is that upon booting, there is always a yellow warning triangle on the first screen, since I bought it, before root or anything. I got it "1.5 handed" (someone got it from an "unwanted upgrade", like a reward you get from a company with points and such, didn't want it, and sold it quite cheaply with it only having been turned on once. the battery was still in it's packaging)
I also have some experience from upgrading ROMs the hard way, with my Toshiba folio 100, but I'm a little more scared with this phone, witch is actually useful with its stock ROM.
current android version according to settings menu: 2.3.4. is this the latest release you can upgrade from Kies?
I hope I have provided enough info
thanks in advance!
Read the stikies guides for using Odin to flash the stock ROM. you will learn every thing to fix your phone in 1 hour max.

thanks, but is there no way to do it with Kies? I'd prefer to use that, but if it's really necessary, I'll use Odin.

depends of the firmware you have on that phone is correct for your region and you say upon booting you have to yellow triangle means the user has flashed something already on it as you have root already guessing it has a insecure kernel or CF Root kernel if want to flash stock roms check out Intratech thread here and if you want a custom stock rom for ics go here and use neats all is stock with root and no fancy stuff done click here!!
hope this helps p.s also kies is **** only use it to add usb drivers then remove it more hassle then its worth and can cause issues with odin

Are they saying an upgrade for your individual phone ????
Check your phone provider has upgraded to ICS ..
Kies failing then if the firmware is on the server use CHECKFUS to download and install .
Not on the server then your phone has not yet been upgraded ,

the phone was not rooted when I got it, and I'm not sure about a custom ROM, it looks normal.
also, I live in South Africa, and apparently you need a separate ROM for that. all I found for south Africa under officials ROMs is the following:
XWKF3
Firmware info
PDA:XWKF3
PHONE: XXKE7
I have no idea what those seemingly random capital letters and numbers mean. it doesn't give the android version, so...

[Q] different bitween update from SD card and odin downloader

i am new to android phones ROM updating . in forums for update ROM on android phone tutorials have two methods
1 . update by SD card
2. odin multi downloader
can any one guide us what are two these methods and both are same or different approach.?? and which is the safest way to update ROM??
also can we downgrade android firnware with out problem?? and how to find the latest version by file name on android, what is the different bitween stock ROM and custom ROM?/??
thank you
i know it is basic question. but we are still beginners in android platform. can any one answer those question or any thread in xda developers that will show the answer
thanks
These are two different modes to change or add things mainly in system. Install from sdcard option is used when you have a zip file of the package you want to change or add. While Odin works only for samsung smartphones. If you have samsung smartphone, odin mode is the BEST. It decreases the chances of corrupting (a.k.a. bricking) your phone. Else you will have to use the install from sdcard option.
You can downgrade your android firmware. Just search and download appropriate package according to the firmware you want and the device you have.
Stock tom is the operating system (a.k.a. rom) that shipped with your phone. While custom rom is developed by people who are mostly not related in the development of original rom.
Custom rom has some disadvantages BUT has many advantages too. You can get more details on google so try search on it. If you need any help just post here.
Hope i helped .

thank you very much master. so if a phone on jelly bean we can downgrade to gingerbread with out any problem?? sir can we know what version (ex: gingerbread or ICS ) with flash file name??
Yes you can IF the OS is released for your device officially. If it is not then you might search for custom OS (ROM) on google or here. Search it with your device name ONLY!
And the OS name is usually written on the zip file or whatever file you downloaded. Or it is written in the website you downloaded it from .
P.S. Please dont call me master whatsoever.
Hope i helped .

looking on wikipedia that phone came with ice cream sandwhich 4.0.4 so if it never came with gingerbread you wont be able to put it on there as the firmware doesnt exist - also you want to run at least android 4+ for most modern apps to work - so you really want the latest firmware you can get
all offical firmware for that phone can be found

Problem with custom rom

Hello everybody, my device is a Samsung Galaxy S Duos S7652.
I am new at this whole rooting thing, i did my first rooting to be honest yesterday and i chose PMP Ultra custom rom, because it was the best rom for my taste.
Unfortunately i didn't know about baseband compability , and my baseband version was s7562xxlj3 , and now my phone cannot receive or make calls.
I need help, what do i do??
I cant even find my original rom so i can install that, or even a custom rom that supports my baseband..
Can you please help me?
Best regards, Alkis.

I think you are mixing some definitions.
Rooting is providing root capabilities to the phone, this is a standard operation in the *nix world.
Selecting a ROM is formatting the whole system and put a new one and you probably changed the kernel (hence the baseband problem).
Fortunately the phone is not bricked (unable to boot), so my recommendation is try to check if there are other kernels/ROMs compatible and change it.
Fortunately this showed while searching: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42182649&postcount=1708

I would recommend either restoring a NANDROID backup in recovery and if you don't have a backup I would recommend searching for your devices firmware here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/ and then flashing it via Odin. Let me know if you still have questions I'll be happy to help you out.

Reflash the stock firmware by going into download mode by pressing voldwn+Home+power and connect it to pc only when u have d samsng drvrs or kies installed on pc and firmware file too..

That's a bit of overkill if they just need the modem, unless it's not been separated out of the original full firmware to flash separately, or you need to update the bootloaders.
To dosadnik2001: Which firmware you need depends on which region the phone is from typically. Sometimes other modems from other firmwares work on unlocked phones, but best to stick with what you know should work right first.
What I do not understand is how the baseband firmware and the custom ROM are related?
I've found some post about changing the baseband firmware and there they say that the ROM doesn't care about the baseband, so you should only change it if there are some optimized baseband that can make your network coverage better. On the other side, I found several post claiming that certain ROM is not working because of the baseband firmware version.
Flashing firmware that is not for your region is again questionable for me. Doesn't this going to mess up somehow the microwave part of the phone and you can have some issues with the network carrier eventually?
Thanks.

[Q] Simple Noob Questions need Expirienced help

Hello, Been A while since i logged in at XDA, ~ i have a few Noobish questions that are quite troublesome to find, ~ i did look at the forums, google and other sites, i have some answers but not generally what i was looking for, so might as well ask the Experts and maybe get some easier tips hehehe, :fingers-crossed:
I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play and since then im ok with it, but now i got a good deal for a Samsung Galaxy S3 Gt-i9300 (i was thinking of a getting the S5 but still waiting for every quirks to settle down) , so a stepping stone in the Samsung Direction, :laugh
Specs:
Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300
Android ver. 4.0.4
its from United Arab Emirates
Status: i Rooted the Phone Using Sir Chainfires thread here ( For Root ) then i installed a CWM here ( For CWM ) ~
Questions:
1.) Is there a more simple way to Rooting and Installing a CWM?? (tips too)
2.) This phone has an Unlocked Bootloader, is it Possible to Lock it by FLashing a Stock ROM??
( i don't want to Lock it, i just want to know, cause some posts declare that their bootloaders got Locked when Flashing a Stock Rom)
Installing a Custom Rom for Xperia Play is usually Posted by the Creators of the Rom,set of Instructions on what Ver. of android you have to be on, and what Kernel your Suppose to be Using, so,
3.) Here in the Dev. Section, i don't see threads for Instructions for that, (it's kinda confusing for newbies) do I have to be on 4.2 to use a 4.2 Custom rom??
4.) Does the S3 have Custom Kernels?? should i Use custom kernels for S3??
5.) Differences of this SECTIONS??
Galaxy S III Android Development
Android development for the Samsung Galaxy S III
Galaxy S III Original Android Development
Original development for the Samsung Galaxy S III
I've red on some Threads that you Can't Revert Back to ICS if your on Kitkat (OFFICIAL ROM)
6.) can i Revert to ICS even though i upgraded to Kitkat or Jellybean?? (just downgrade to any Firmware i want)
Some Posts and Videos i saw have used Phone and CSC on their ODin
7.) What are those exactly (in layman's term) ?? and can someone link me to a nice guide of Odin (got a few but a bit complicated for me )
Some Threads say that i have to be in a certain Version of CWM for me to use it on a higher Ver. of Android
8.) how to tell what those Ver. of CWM for Certain Ver. of Android??
9.) is the method for Rooting ICS , JB and KitKat Different??
10.) Can my Old Titanium Backups work with Newer/Higher Ver. of android or ver. of Titanium Backup
that's it, any help and answers to this questions will be of Great Help, and links to would be Epic, THanks in ADvance, :victory:

1) Try framaroot or cf auto root. Cwm just install zip and flash it after u root ur phone.
2) No, flashing roms will not lock ur bootloader. All instructions on how to flash the rom will be on their respective thread.
3) No, u do not need to be on the same android version to flash the rom.
4) Yes there are custom kernels for the s3 and its all on wat u wan.
5) Original is where the devs create the mod or rom and the one without original is the one where devs get the rom base from the original forum and edit it.
6) Once u are on 4.3, i advise u not to go back to previous android versions unless u know how to backup and restore efs. And 4.3 is btr than previous versions anyway.
7) There is a sticky the forum. Just update ur recovery to the newest and u will have no problems.

First things first.
The efs is the most important, irreplaceable part of your phone that holds device specific information, with imei, sn, etc. It has 2 versions:
Efsv1 is present in all ics 4.0 firmwares and jb firmwares before 4.1.2 with baseband mg4.
Efsv2 is in all firmwares starting from jb 4.1.2 wirh baseband mg4.
Efsv1 can be converted to efsv2 by flashing. Efsv2 CANNOT be reverted to efsv1 unless you have a efsv1 backup.
So, first thing, use framaroot to root your ics firmware and make a backup of efsv1 using the ktool app (free on playstore). This is very important because if you update to efsv2 firmwares and ever want to downgrade to a efsv1 firmware you'll need that backup to keep the phone working. So keep that backup and copies of it stored in case you ever need it.
Also efsv1 can be network unlocked using galaxy sim unlock, free version in the app section, paid version in the playstore. But efsv2 cannot be unlocked through free hommade methods.
