hey guys,
my GF want me to root and flash her SGSII-GT9100..
the thing is, she wants me to keep CONTACTS as they are, this means, their contacts have Adresses and emails included..
what I want to know is if I can make backup w/ KIES befor root the sgsII and after rooting and install Custom ROM I'll be able to restore everything as she wants?
regards m8s
Why not backup the numbers to her google account? Then you can restore them real easy.

backu up with kies is enough...i've backed up all contacts via kies when the first time i root my sgs2
If you use a aosp, aokp or cm rom, then Kies will not work.

No you can't use Kies to restore anything.
Backing up your data with google or samsung is easiest way. Go through Settings>Accounts>Google/Samsung then sync all the stuff you wanna keep safe. You can restore it after you install(flash) your new ROM.
You can also export it to sd card.
You can install mobile backup II from market. It will backup sms & call log also along with contacts. Once you flash your new ROM you'll have to install this app again and you can restore all the data.
Don't forget to do a nandroid backup before you flash new ROM.
Best of luck.
Ummm....you got titanium back up pro and a couple of contacts and sms back up apps at play store....now, why don't you save all the .vcf to dropbox or wherever?

I would suggest some other rom than RR 3.1.3 if your GF is not a dev or experienced android tweaker. From my opinion it's just not ready for daily use. I had to tweak quite a bit and I'm still not satisfied. Issues with memory, GPS, camera, flash, BT etc. It will be a great rom and I'm waiting for updates. I repeat, this is just my opinion and I'm not a dev, I may have done something wrong or misunderstood some part.

Hmm ... really strange.
Maybe a problem with your Google account.
But disappearing system apps ... ?!
If you have got a recent system backup, then recover it.
If not, I recommend to re-install a stock ROM (flashing with Odin).
Do a hard reset after flashing.
Root your phone (e.g. flashing CF-Root kernel).
This should bring back the missing system apps.
Good luck !
Whit a hard reset, you mean a factory reset, right?
And no, no backups
there is no way to reinstall those apps?

Hard reset: Dial *2767*3855# into your phone.
This will wipe internal SD card!
EDIT:
Please do a full system backup in future!
I backup my apps with Titanium Backup (free app from the Market) and make a system backup with CWM Manager app (which is included in my CF-Root kernel).
i'll be sure to do that next time, i wanted to do a Nandroid backup after rooting, but i kept delaying it... until it was too late
i guess i can backup my user apps now with Titanium, or should i just start from blank with a stock rom?
flashing the stock rom will also bring back the stock kernel?

Yes, the ROM contains kernel, modem and CSC.
You can restore all user apps you have saved with Titanium Backup.
Do not restore any system app.
Just to be safe.

a nice twist of things today, i have read some info regarding this issue on the webz and i decided to uninstall facebook and google+... and what do you know, my apps r back and working perfectly

Helloo
I am new here and to android, bought my first android phone ever just few days back ,i have read and spent time reading and searching stuff here and gotta say i learned a lot in just few days but there are few things i didnt quite understood...
Q1, i knw the difference between odex and deodex read here but i wana ask, what are the main benefits of deodex ? is it that we can install theams and other stuff like that on stock with it? or smething else ..
Q2: i have tried successfully coderrom and blackhawk and i was able to restore my apps data with titanium backup but i tried cyanogenmod kang rc1 and was not able to restore anything is it not possible or any particular way to restore? i wana restore my call history , messages, contact etc usuallstuff.
Q3: the clockwork backup can it be restored directly above any rom ? if i am running cyanogen or coderrom and want to go back to my old backup just in case should i just restore my old backup directly ? or i have to flash the stock first and then apply backup(this is how i did for now tho)
Q1 - yes, for themes.
Q2 - I restore my backups pretty fine. But not messages and contacts. For contacts I the google account so it automatically restores. For sms I use Go Sms Pro inbuilt function.
And Q 3 yes, any rom.

havnt checked gosms pro tho but as i tried to restore dailer storage data with titanium nothing happend it did said successful tho, nor did contacts , is it because the dailer of cyanogen is different than that of stock and coderrom etc ?
is that dialer a part of touchwiz in stock roms ? if so can it be installed on cyanogenmd ? one more thing i saw cyanogen dont have task manger also tried to restore it but titanium got stuck in it nothing happned so finalyy restarted my phone...
i am back to stock for now still trying to decide wich rom should i go for
Good evening everybody.
I've recently rooted my phone and installed a costum recovery. Now i'd like to say good bye to the samsung stock ROM and install a costum one (Android Revolution HD probably). But after flashing i'd like to find my phone as it was before! More precisely, messages, contacts, settings, apps (with user settings) should still be there; i'd like to backup everything is on the phone and restore it after flashing. To do that can i use Titanium Backup? It can backup it all? Are there other ways to do that?
Moreover, if i get the Siyah kernel and install the CM10 too, massages and apps are shared between the 2 systems, or everyone has its own?
Thanks in advance!
You can back up user apps and messages with titanium, restoring them safely in your new rom. You can't do the same with system apps or settings - you'll just break the new rom.
Contacts are restored when you log into google.
....additionally,I suggest using a third party launcher like nova, you can back up your layout, and it does a brilliant job of restoring widgets too, also remember to make a nandroid of your working Rom so if the flash goes wrong you can restore, and don't forget to back up your efs
Ok, thank you very much! And what's about dualboot? Is there a way to share massages, contacts and apps between the 2 systems (for example, if i send a message and then i change ROM, i can find that sent massage in the just booted ROM too)??
EDIT: Thank you too slaphead20. I didn't see your post.. I'll absolutely make a nandroid and EFS backup! How can i do the EFS backup? Simply from recovery? Can i use the GS3 Unified Toolkit?

You can, but it's complicated,I don't think siyah works with 4.2.x, I would stay away from dual booting until you are a bit more experienced.....I personally don't bother with it anymore, too much of a headache!
i recently installed liquid smooth on my gf's i9300 she prefers stock rom. my Q is can i simply go to TWRP and restore the 4.1.2 rooted back up i did. or will i have to flash stock through odin and also wat will i have to do wit gapps as her s3 is on liquid-jb-v2.7-oficial 4.2.2. as the title says id prefer to keep root but can root again if i have to. all answers appreciated
Wouldn't be much point taking a backup that can't be restored

The nandroid backup you had taken then, will restore the phone as an exact snapshot of how it was then. Any apps installed since (or SMS received for example) will be lost, but the phone will be exactly as it was when you took the backup.
If there are SMS that need to be backed up, I recommend SMS backup+, it will back up SMS to your Gmail account. You can even browse them as emails in gmail.
Any apps / data that you want to backup over and above what is in the nandroid backup, use Titanium. With this, ONLY backup and restore USER APPS. System data is incompatible.
Hope this helps. There are some guides in General, under "Roll-up Sticky thread". You should be able to get all teh info you need (including back ups) from tehre.
I haven't updated my phone in a while. I don't get the over the air updates anymore. I saw the new update and thought it was time.. My phone is rooted and I'm running G900tuvu1ane6 and want to update to 6.1 and then root the phone again. Can you let me know if I can do a straight update without messing anything up or do I need to do an incremental update? Also, what is the best way to root the new version. Are there any issues with mm that I should be aware of. Thanks in advance.

No. You can go straight to 6.0.x
Flash twrp flash supersu
Not really. There's been a crap load fixed/improved since KitKat tho lol
Hi!
Yes, you can
You can by using ODIN
Go to sammobile to download the last MM version
Download ODIN (sammobile has a link to ODIN)
The phone will be swiped. You'll lost all data
Fisrt boot can take 8 minutes or more
The root again
So I'm running a backup now with twrp. If my phone gets wiped with this update, what is the best way to save and restore settings like app data and personal info. I think twrp is just for a full backup and restore correct?

You can restore just data with twrp but honestly I highly suggest just starting fresh especially going from KitKat to marshmallow. So much has changed betwen the 2 from dalvik to art, file structure, etc etc. Back up your contacts and just restore them. Download all your apps back log in etc etc. Take you 10 minutes longer and starting completely fresh and clean.

I'm agree
There are a lot of changes from KK to MM.
you can use google backup and restore mechanism to restore some kind of configuration: when you are running first wizard google ask: "restore from previous phone"?
This restores desktop confiig and install your apps you installed from play store
Whatsapp restore automatically from last backup
Call log and SMS can be backup and restore with "SMS backup and restore"

I followed instructions I found in another thread but it didn't wipe the phone completely. Not sure what I did wrong but the phone seems to be working well with the existing apps.

I was trying to remove bloatware and I've been finding threads for other phone's firmware but they have different apps. I've seen some apps that remove bloatware automatically but don't know if I should use one of them or just uninstall apps through titanium backup. If I use titanium have you guys seen a good list for the newest firmware?

Helloooo
I have a galaxy s5 900T, but I am in Europe and I have problems with the mobile network.
Individual network frequencies are unavailable, so I do not have 3G and 4G networks in some places.
I'm thinking to install software from Europe version of s5 900f on my s5 909T but I am not sure is that possible.
Can someone explain to me whether it is possible or why not. For example, CyanogenMod is the same ROM for both models (900F and 900T, and mire else s5 with Qualcomm procesor.
