[Q] Help : From JB rom to ICS/Stock rom - HTC Amaze 4G

Hey guys, I am familiar with rooting and flashing on several devices (samsung & LG ) but this is my first HTC device and I see that there are quite a few differences on this. Here is my current setup and problem
HTC Amaze (T-Mobile) , S-ON (i cannot get S-off for the toolkit requires a 32-bit windows which I don't have), I have my Hboot unlocked via HTCDev and flashed 4EXT recovery via All-in-one Toolkit from Hasoon2000. I was intially in the stock htc ics rom and I flashed this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2151431. The darkglass rom worked fine and everything but I did not like the feel of it and wanted to go back to a sense rom. (I did a backup on 4ext before flashing)
I tried the following and it did not work:
- Flashing nightmaresense rom (failed)
- flashing elegant sense (failed)
- tried restoring back to my stock htc rom (failed)
none of these roms booted up for me ( I followed every instructions and made sure to wipe everything before flashing )
- I wiped and reflashed the darkglass rom again and it works fine.
My question is why is my backup htc stock not flashing and how can i flash back to a ics rom or a sense rom that isnt 4.1? what exactly am I doing wrong and can it be solved without getting S-off?

You need to enable smart flash on 4ext to flash properly
Sent from my Amaze 4G using xda app-developers app

Correct. Enable Smart Flash in 4EXT Recovery or the 4EXT Recovery Control App (must be purchased) then reflash your backup or flash a different rom.

Its not necessary to purchase the 4EXT Recovery Control app. There's also a free version available called 4EXT Recovery Updater. You can also enable Smart Flash and configure your Recovery using this free version.
And just to inform you jislam88, I S-Offed my phone using AIO Kit on my 64 bit Windows 7.
I just ran the kit as administrator, and luckily everything went successful..

Thanks for all the help guys, it worked after I turned on the smart flash. I was wondering the same about the S-off considering most PCs are 64 bit now and the actual Juopunutbear Website states that it only works on 32-Bit windows.
Anywho, I will try that S-Off later , by the way a lot of people here seem to complain about battery life, I suggest this : http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-x-2500mAh...350011?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item33702d507b (yes it is real and it is a stock size battery)
I get about 12-14 hours of heavy use daily on this on stock htc rom/kernel. Probably even better on custom roms.

From JB rom to ICS/Stock rom
I am also currently on dark glass (JB) and i want to revert to ics....so all I have to do is enable smart flash and wipe partisions and flash night mare rom (ics) ???? are the steps correct?
(BTW i have unbranded HTC amaze no carrier so I came all the way from s-off and super cid and updated using tmobile stock ICS RUU)

There's no need to enable Smart Flash if you are already S-Off.
You are Super CID, S-Off and you already have ICS firmware installed.
You are ready to go.
Format all partitions except SD in Recovery and flash Nightmare ROM.

Hm. Maybe just try manually wiping everything from recovery instead? I never use superwipes and as long as I factory data reset x2, wipe cache/dalvik x2, I never have issues. That's just how I've done it on all my phones and I never have issues.
I just flashed Newts One S RC3. It took me a while but I finally found a method that worked. I did it once and got through set-up and was in play store downloading apps when it went into boot loop. I tried the same method again and it didn't work. I messed around with different methods for a while before getting the following to work.
What I'm using:
HTC Unlock method
Hboot 1.5
S-on
cwm recovery 4.0.1.4
I used a computer to fastboot to recovery. Did factory data reset, wipe dalvik, and cache all x2. I installed the .zip rom file from SD card. And then installed the .zip anthrax ics RLS5 kernel file from SD card. Then I rebooted and so far everything is working fine. I've been running it for a couple hours now. I manually downloaded my apps one by one from the play store for fear of repeating what happened to me the first time. And I've just finished signing in to everything I use and haven't had an issue yet.
I hope this helps.

Yes i herd about this but have you tried charging or connecting your phone to a computer, many people can't charge or connect to computer via USB because of this kernel
Idk before I sent my phone in a had been using that kernel. I had no trouble charging/connecting. But really what it comes down to is every one of these phones is different, then you throw in the hboot and other key factors and it just gets worse.

Turn off smartflash if you are s-off you dont need it.
Then flash chads htc leak rls1 kernel, that stopped all the bootloops and problems for me its something about the stock kernel i am guessing. Everything worked fine after using that kernel. Anthrax rls5 says not to use it with sense 3.6, its right on androidfilehost. Chad said to use the leak rls1 instead for sense 3.6.
boot loop
wonder why every sense 4.0 ics rom i try to flash to my htc evo 3d... it always boot loop, i done tired everything everyone told me and the same thing happens.. only thing that really works on my phone is gingerbread... any suggestion??? really would appreciate it...

In my case I can't get any ROM based on the leaked RUU to boot unless I changed the kernel, this applies to both 3.6 and 4.0 ROMs. I don't know if you're GSM or CDMA but I know the kernel from Shooter_Ice works for me which is a GSM ROM. I can flash that over just about any ROM and it works or I can install the ROM straight up and it works to. If you're GSM, try that, if you're CDMA then look for a similar ROM that isn't based on the HTC leak.

ICS ROMs bootloop if you are Hboot 1.5 S-On (which you are if you unlocked via HTC). I recommend you get S-off using the wire trick or downgrade to 1.4 S-off. See the stickies in the CDMA Development section (or GSM development) to find information and steps on how to do it.

+1, go s-off and you can flash anything you want
Loop FIX
Sometimes you will get boot loops even with 4ext.
One thing that I have found which works is flashing mean ROM 2.4 ICS as a base.
This ROM probably will not boot or will get stuck in a boot loop but that is fine in this case. From there on use 4ext to complete a "dirty install" of another ICS ROM. I recommend SOS De-Sensed Rom. Sometimes flashing a ICS ROM on top of another ICS ROM (booting or non booting) allows for install.
to bypass all the bs go straight to fastboot and flash 4ext recovery 1.00.5 and do the s off wiretrick and then try to flash the rom... when you get s off it releases more permissions for the kernel to flash to the rom without having to use flash image gui from joekrimz
try this
ok you need to flash the boot.img file trough the bootloader, if that doesnt work try flash image gui
Flash custom rom then pull out your battery, go to fastboot then try flash this boot.img with fastboot http://db.tt/kEUVhnvV

Are you gsm or cdma? But next step would be to make sure you're running the latest firmware. If cdma then flash Freezas all in one update zip then flash a rom. Again if cdma I would suggest Mean Rom 4.2 (gingerbread) or Mean Rom .09 (ICS), they are stable with everything fully functional.

Yeah your phone is CDMA. You can root your current ROM by flashing this from recovery -----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1046553&d=1336400579
Or just flash another custom ROM of your choice from recovery . Almost all ROMs comes pre-rooted.
If you want the latest radios and firmware by sprint , download this ---> http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18734200/PG86IMG-2.17.651.5_Firmware_Only.zip and rename it to PG86IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sdcard, boot into bootloader, it will ask if you want to update , hit yes.
And if you are going to flash the ICS leak, dont flash the firmware as some members are having problems with it. Just flash the ROM without Firmware and it should work.
EDIT: Do you have working superuser or SuperSU in your current ROM?
You said you are rooted, and you also said you have S-off and nothing else
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21374142

If you are in fact Hboot 1.4 flash zip to update your radio etc

Then download the latest Mean Rom ICS (.09 at the moment), flash and profit! If you need any help or insight feel free to pn me anytime. Also the Mean Rom community is full of support not only from the dev Mike but also us users.. Someone will be able to help just about anytime of the day/night

Were the calls and texts working after achieving S-OFF and before installing the zip that I linked?
The problem you are facing is not because of the zip but i is due to revolutionary tool.
Everyone who is S-OFF faced that issue just after running revolutionary.....
It can be solved by doing hands free activation......
I am not on sprint, so just search or ask some sprint users......

Thanks i will try that, let you know if it works
Flash 2.17 first
But now you unlocked your device into many possibilities :
-custom roms to make the phone smoother and better battery life, like viperrom
-custom mods
-overclocking your processor
-installing custom themes
-free wifi tether
You unlocked your phone. Do whatever you want. It's free from all restrictions.
Edit: I'd like to also point out that flashing a sense 3.6 (ics sense) rom requires an adsp.img that works with ICS. Basically, don't Flash an ics sense rom unless it says Sense 4.0. Sense 4.0 roms are safe to flash.

Flash the zip from recovery that I linked in my first post of this thread on previous page to root your current ROM. Then ROM manager will ask you for superuser permissions and it will work. And instead of clockworkmod and rom manager, download and install the 4ext app from 4ext.net and it will flash 4ext recovery from that app.It is a touch recovery like twrp 2.0+ and CWM 5.8.0.x.
And are calls and texts working now??

You have to flash the kernel for MeanRom ICS, since it can't use the stock GB kernel. I used Flash Image GUI(in the Play Store).
1) Open Flash Image GUI and go to your Mean Rom zip to flash the kernel.
2) Boot into recovery from Flash Image GUI.
3) Flash Mean Rom ICS and reboot.
Check out this video.

There are other ways of course like going to S-off, but since you are S-on, this should work.

Issue resolved. just had to flash a different kernel. Still S-on and its working perfectly with meanrom. Thanks everyone for your help
What kernel did you end up going with?
get 4ext recovery, it has smart flash so you won't be having to use guiflash or fastboot.. and boot loops are common with 1.5 hboot
For the future i would recomend installing 4ext recovery its a recovery biult for evo 3d on s-on. It lets you upload difrent roms. You could by that app at the playstore. You shold really check it out.
OK here's what I have have/have done:
HBOOT 1.50, S-ON
I used fastboot to flash 4ext 1.0.0.5 RC5 to the recovery so I wouldn't have to fastboot every time.
I also flashed "AnthraX-htcleak-rls1.zip" (within 4ext) which supposedly fixes reboot loops.
I would perform a "factory wipe" then turn on SmartFlash and then flash an ICS ROM (MeanROM 2.4, Clean ROM ICS RC2, Derp ROM BDM4.1, viperROM B3) and they all rebooted in one of three ways: as soon as I went to unlock, after sitting on the lock screen for about 5 seconds, or without the lock screen ever loading.
I got CleanROM Reborn (gingerbread) to load and I'm using that for now.

First off, doing a factory wipe ins't enough generally. Grab superwipe from the first post of MeanROM ICS and flash that first. Do it multiple times to make sure everything gets clean. Then flash the ROM, and finally the AnthraX kernel.
1. superwipe
2. flash ROM
3. flash kernel
It your still have issues after this then you need to get your 3D s-off. Some just have trouble properly flashing the kernel with s-on on an ICS ROM

OK, so here's what I ended up doing to get it to work:
Unlock the bootloader with the HTC tool
Flash the recovery using fastboot.exe with 4EXT 1.0.0.5 RC5 (I had actually downloaded this on my phone prio to doing anything so I had the zip file with the .img file in it)
Boot in to 4EXT recovery and turn on SmartFlash
Flash the superwipe zip first
Flash the ICS ROM (in this case MeanROM)
Flash the Anthrax zip file
Reboot the phone and let it go through the setup and it was all set!
So the most frustrating part was unlocking the bootloader, because I misread some instructions at first, and it took me a while to realize I could flash 4EXT to recovery to I wouldn't have to keep booting to it through my PC, but it all worked out in the end. I'm now running ICS on my phone and it was still less of a headache than waiting for Sprint.
A lot has changed in the last year and a half or so since I rooted my EVO 4G. Thanks everyone!

[Q] cant install ICS

i got an HTC EVO 3D (CDMA/sprint)
its rooted
HBOOT 1.5
unlocked
currently has 4EXT recovery
running gingerbread (synergy)
every time i try to install an ICS rom it freezes on boot (some cases crashes as soon as you see the lockscreen)
i can however install gingerbread roms without problems
ive tried using ota's (what apperantly doesnt work if its rooted and has an recovery flashed)
cwm recovery (which i cant flash kernels)
twrp (can only install ingerbread roms, ICS roms still freeze on boot)
4EXT (first flash boot.img through fastboot than install rom, this works lil bit better than twrp becouse some ICS roms get to the unlock screen befoor they crash)
can anyone please help me? ):

You need to be S-off in order to flash an ICS ROM, unless you use 4EXT smart flash, which isn't guaranteed to work.

OK, some more information would help, like why can't you install them? Are you getting an error? Are you flashing the correct hboot?

ive got TuopunutBear's custom HBOOT 1.50.5050
and im in an bootloop (it crashes right after the HTC logo)
cant even flash GB roms anymore
You need to be using either the sprint 1.58 or the vm 1.57 hboots afaik
You just need to get back the bootloader first - take out the battery, put it back in, power on, hold volume down...

Frank....I think the issue is you probably installed the wrong rom version....This is very important that you install the correct rom for Evo 3d GSM or CDMA version or you would get Bootloop...I would suggest you install this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991150
and make sure you use 4EXT latest version, S-Off, Unlocked...
This rom is Viper3d Sense 4.1 and the most stable and fast ICS rom so far for GSM and CDMA......Since you have S-off and unlocked...you dont have to flash the boot.img separately....just copy the rom files to Sdcard then follow my instruction:
1)Do a full wipe (Wipe data/reset factory, Wipe cach+davik, Format partrition [without Sdcard])
2)Install from zip card,,,then choose the rom....
3)Reboot...it should work great if you do as i said.....
Furthermore....i would recommend you install Anthrax kernel....i dont know if the forum is allow me to send the link here.....??

I had this issue. If every Rom you flash bootloops, you may want to run the ruu.exe to reset your phone (you'll still be s-off). Hopefully this will get your phone booting. Then flash a custom hboot (I use 1.4 revolutionary) and then custom recovery (I use 4ext). You should be able to flash anything at that point (except a select few roms).
You can get the ruu.exe and other files from the thread I linked earlier.
GET HBOOT 1.49.0007 unlocked and s-off and 4ext as recovery then it should.work with most roms!

NO, NO, NO! He's CDMA and that's a GSM hboot. Don't flash that or it'll be trouble.

Wait, is he REALLY CDMA?
I'm confused right now.
It says he's from Europe, which usually uses GSM.
-shrugs-
Well, all I have to add is if you're flashing the kernel right away, don't set the overclock value to high, that's what causes bootloops/hangs.
Set your max cpu to stock (1188 MHz) for now. Then once it boots, overclock. I find that anything fast 15XX MHz causes bootloops with new versions of kernels.
I bought it from ebay becouse it was so much cheaper (I know europe is gsm only)
do I have to run an ruu or flash hboot
And which versions of those

it is CDMA from sprint
Go to this website www.htcruu.com and make sure you install the correct ruu to return to stock rom. At first you need to lock your phone by using fastboot flash lock oem....(google how to lock your phone ) then run the ruu file...
After that, unlock your phone again. So tour phone now would be Unlocked+S-off. At thia stage, you can install viper3d rom without problem...make sure you choose ruu for sprint with ics+radio 11.77

[Q] Flashed a bad rom on my HTC One X Plus

I recently bought a htc one x plus and as the person as i am, i quickly unlocked the bootloader, installed a custom recovery (ClockworkMod recovery) and kernel. But then i tried to flash a AOKP Jelly Bean 4.2.1 Custom ROM and after flashing it, it would just hang around the AOKP boot logo (a horse head with rotating rings around it). Then, without thinking, i relocked the bootloader (with a custom rom) to send it for warranty. Now, it would only go to the bootloader screen. After going through a few forums, i found out that this could be repaired by using the correct ruu for my device but they all say that i have to flash a stock recovery and boot.img before relocking the bootloader in order for the ruu to work. So my question is can i reunlock my bootloader to flash the stock recovery and boot.img without bricking the device and can flashing the correct ruu repair my phone. Please reply, i'm so desperate. The htc guys wanted me to pay $400 just to repair it and since i rooted the phone, warranty does not cover it.

You can unlock the boot again if you kept the code you received when you did it the 1st time round. Once you have unlocked it you can then flash any Rom. Did you make a nand backup before installing the custom Rom? If you did you can reinstall the custom recovery and restore the phone to stock.
I currently run the viper 3.4.2 rom, you could also install this after installing the custom recovery.

Hi Sharveen,
Please do youself a favor, and don't use the CWM Recovery, this Recovery is not adapted for this phone, I strongly suggest that you install TWRP Recovery, the latter is way more complete and rigorously tested on the HTC One X+.
TIP : Please read, read, read as much as you can before doing any changes to your phone, that can save you lots of problem.
First make sure your SDK tool (adb) is correctly installed and also the HTC's drivers. (There is a link for a tutorial in my signature.)
Download the correspondent recovery for your phone International OR AT&T/Telus (N.B. Links are available in the Sticky FAQ)
Flash the Recovery.
Clear Cache
Reboot in Recovery
DO A COMPLETE BACKUP OF YOUR ACTUAL ROM. BE SURE TO KEEP IT IN A SAFE PLACE
Install your correspondent version of any ROM.zip you want that is already on your storage. (Otherwise,Sideload a ROM to be able to flash one inRecovery)
Flash the boot.img of your desired ROM
Clear Cache Again
Reboot
Should work
Thank you soo much for replying and no, i did not make a nandroid backup when i tried to flash the rom. So can flashing a correct ruu repair my phone and hopefully get it back to stock rom...

If you want to flash a RUU you need to install the original Recovery then flashing the correspondent RUU. Just let us know what is your preference, but as far as I am concern, your original backup wasn't made too bad, but you can still install a modded ROM.
This is gonna be your call for the continuity.

You could try searching the forum to see if someone has a nand backup for your phone. Only problem with ruu's is they haven't released the more up to date ones, so if your phone had the latest ota I doubt you will be able to use the ruu method. Personally I would use a custom Rom until you can find a nand for your phone.

The original recovery will be contained in the %temp% folder created by the ruu when opened but do i have to flash the boot.img which is also contained in the folder and also most of the forums says that you have to flash the boot.img after flashing the recovery while some says that you could relock the bootloader and flash the ruu after flashing the recovery only. So in my situation, do i have to flash the boot.img or not.

if you unlock your phone, you can only "relock" it, it will not become "locked" forever, even use RUU program
