[Q] Help With Internal Storage - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everyone,
In my internal storage (/storage/sdcard0) there is a folder named MyBackups which i think is created while flashing the ROM NUKE script. The Problem is that its size is showing as 1.3 TB (thats rite TB) when i check the storage option in settings menu.I cant even delete this folder as it says it is a system read only folder.I tired formatting my internal storage form the settings menu as well as CWM recovery but nothing helps. Now all the files on my internal storage are showing as read only and i cant delete anything. I cant use any apps as every time a error message comes saying that low storage please delete something etc ....
Please help me out if anyones knows how to go about remounting with read write permissions or formatting my internal storage. Any guide or advice will be really appreciated as my phone is almost unusable.
ROM : XWLS8
Philz Kernel with CMW revcovery.
If anymore details are required please let me know.

There was a guy 2 days ago who had a folder of 67gb inside /android/data/. His thread was called "can't delete folder" or similar to it. Search and you shall find your answer.

Well i came across many posts while searching and one of them stated to connect the phone to PC in Mass storage mode and not MTP mode and then format the internal sdcard. Luckily it worked for me. You could also try it and see if it works. All d best.

[Q] Internal Storage Corrupted

Hi all
I have a Fujitsu ARROWS X F-05D, which running Android 2.3.5. It has 4GB internal storage and supports microSD card.
I tried to format the phone’s internal storage through Windows 7, the operation was failed during the formatting process. After that, I cannot access either the phone’s internal storage or micorSD card. Both of them show “Unavailable” under Settings  Storage [Built-in storage] and [SD card]. The [Delete data in built-in storage], [Mount SD card] and [Erase SD card] were dimmed. I had performed a phone hard reset but the problem persists.
If I connect the phone with PC, windows can recognize there has USB mass storage attached and assigns two drive letters accordingly. However, if I want to access either of them, windows will ask to insert a storage media. In addition, the phone will not prompt to ask user to confirm connect the phone as a USB mass storage.
Without external storage, most apps cannot be functioned normally or simply can’t install at all. Could anyone please kindly advise how to fix it?
Regards,
Boy

Hi Jiffer,
Reflash a stock rom is a reasonable try. However, my phone is an unpopular model outside Japan, and I don't know Japanese to looking for help in Japanese forum. As such, I am unable to obtain either stock rom or custom rom for a try.
As a turnaround, I want to know how to locate the phone's internal storage and how to format it through adb.

Thats what Im here for
Was a Solution ever found this problem? I have the exact same issue.
Also reflashing the rom with a stock is not an option, as it requires the internal memory to do so.

I did solve the problem at last but unfortunately forget how to fix it since my handset was damaged by water linkage after a very short period.
I only remember the problem lies on the corruption of partition table. I replaced a file (sorry, forget what file again!) through adb. After reboot, the system prompts me something wrong in the partition table and asks me to format internal storage, after that. The device resumes normal.

a bit of a resurrection post but I just resolved mine, I deleted the data/ cache of the contacts and contact storage.
I also purged every contact I any program I have and then reimported them into one program. I let it all populate and everything was fine.

Also resurrecting an old thread lol. So should i pull the internal sd card using adb and push it back after deleting it? Or would that be crazy.

Can't mount internal storage / emmc

Hi everyone!
This is sort of my first post on here, so please correct me if I'm posting the wrong place or anything like that
I'm fairly new to all the rooting and custom ROMs and all, but i enjoy it - it works great!
Now, though, I have a serious issue! I've been running the stock CM10 ROM for about a month now, and I haven't encountered anything huge of problems and been updating it almost every day with newest nightlies. But then suddenly one day my phone couldn't mount the internal storage. And it was like at a random time. I hadn't installed anything or changed anything, i had just taken a picture with the camera..
When I go to settings > storage I get a "Internal storage: 1.97 GB - apps: 868 MB - available: 868MB. and underneath that it says "Internal storage: Mount SD card", however nothing happens when i press it. When using a file manager, I can still see the extSD. I've been googling everything like crazy, tried every solution to what looked to be the same issue but no results! Even when booting CWM and go to mount, it can't mount the mnt/emmc or format it or the SD card. It just says "error running /emmc!".
I haven't tried to factory reset as I would like this to be the last thing tried as I don't like setting my phone up again.
Please help! I can't take photos, watch my photos, listen to music or run half of my apps!
So, what's the status? No one knows what to do?

Thanks for reply!
I haven't tried exactly that app, but I've tried a lot of remount / mount SD card apps. But isn't RemountSD just to use extSD instead of internalSD?
Sorry, I can't try it atm. I can't download anything directly from my phone "without an SD" as it says.. and i don't have a USB cable or SD card reader atm.

If it is write protected you should be able to copy from it. As snaker445 said, I also had this problem with my girlfriend's s2, could not create files, folders, apps didn't work, gallery was showing an error about not having enough space. I could remount the internal memory as read/write but will return to read only after any operation that writes.I checked for errors, nothing was found. Ended up copying everything from the internal memory to computer (using ums, mtp didn't work properly for some reason. If you are not rooted this will be a problem; I guess you could copy everything on an external sd card instead), format the internal memory (from phone menu), copy everything back. Everything worked after that, even mtp

[Q] unable to delete folder from Android/Data

I have a big problem..
On the internal SD there's the folder Android/Data - there's another folder that I can't delete.
Reason I want to delete it is the fact, that there's something wrong with one of the cache folders.
Properties shows me size of 64.7GB (!!!!!) and there are some files with cryptic data names in it...
I tried everything: Root Explorer (phone is rooted with Wanamlite 4.1.2, v14.1), Formating USB Storage, Access from Recovery...
No way to get rid of this funny folder that is 5 times bigger than USB storage actually is
Any idea what I could do?
Thank you for your help.
Ralph
I think this is a bug.... Do you have more than 70gb on the phone? How can you have a 67gb folder on the phone?
Use Clean Master (free on the Market) to clear space. Don't go deleting files/folders that seem large.

Hi - yes it is a bug - 67GB are impossible - the folder is on the internal SD (12GB space if empty).
Problem is that this folder "influences" phone functionality...from time to time my phone tells me that I don't have space left on the internal SD Card..At the same time Storage-Manager tells me that there are 7GB left..
After a Reboot phone works normal until this buggy folder is accessed by the system..then again "no space"..
That's why I would like to deleted the cache folder. But folder can't be deleted...I tried everything..just "format emmc" from recovery is left.
Any idea how I can access the folder an delete?
Also have the same problem. Tried formatting emmc and its still there. Everything works fine i just cant remove this folder.

Same problem here, anyone with any clues? Even tried formatting the entire data partition in recovery, still no joy.
It has been preventing me from installing a certain app, as the undeletable folder relates to a previous installation of it. I have been able to rename it however, and that's enough to get the app to reinstall.
Still got that annoying folder though!!

that is because you rom is missing factory test file.
My SGS2 has a variety of issues. Typical bootsequence: phone boots without mounting external sdcard. Writing permissions to internal sd works only after ~20% of the reboots. I mount external sd manually through menu option. After this step writing permissions to internal sd never works.
I used the app DiskUsage and noticed that a particular folder had files occupying tens of gigabytes. The folder was: /storage/sdcard0/android/data/com.ideashower.readitlater.pro/files/ril_offline/ril_assets/cdn3.sbnation.com/entry_photo_images , which belongs to the Pocket application.
(While scanning, the app goes to ~460% and warns that the filesystem might be cyclic or something similar.)
I already tried this and it didn't work:
delete folder/its files with ES File Explorer
delete folder with terminal (having superuser access)
delete folder via adb
I always got an error message saying I only have read access to these files. Changing the permissions doesn't work with either adb or superuser terminal. (This particular lack of permissions for these files is not the same as the lack of writing permissions to the whole sdcard.)
I did however just now regain writing permission to internal sdcard by freezing the Pocket app with Titanium backup (equivalent to uninstalling). This was inspired by the post by xtc399 above saying that
After a Reboot phone works normal until this buggy folder is accessed by the system

. I have also read somewhere else that the existence of folder(s) with tons of files creates the problem with writing permissions to internal sdcard, and my Pocket read-list is huge thereby downloading very many files to android/data/.
The big files are still there. Could it be a hardware problem in the memory? And it seems related to the permission issue on internal sdcard.
I had the same problem: I could not open the gallery and other apps due to insufficient space. On my 16 GB USB memory, I also found huge files (412 GB) that belonged to the Pocket app (former Read It Later), with cryptic file names. The path was: sdcard0/android/data/com.ideashower.readitlater.pro/files/ril_offline/ril_assets/...
I tried deleting the files and formatting the USB storage - unfortunately without success, as you all described. Then I found this solution which solved the problem:
https://marcowue.wordpress.com/2013/10/17/howto-korrupten-internen-speicher-sdcard-unter-android-fixen/
Following the instructions (in german language), i successfully used adb and the partitioning tool parted to reset the partion. The reason was a corrupt file system, which forced the USB storage into a read-only mode. To solve this issue, you will need a rooted device.

[Q] HTC unable to mount internal memory?
