Galaxy S3 SIM unlock question - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

At some stage ill be selling my Galaxy S3 and purchasing a Sony Xperia Z or maybe a Galaxy S4 depending if it doesn't have plastic casing.
Anyway I'll most likely have to flash the stock ROM but I'm just wondering if it will remain unlocked to all networks, before I installed the Galaxy sim unlock it was locked to 3 Ireland, it's always more appealing to potential customers when they see a phone is unlocked, i assume it will stay unlocked but just to be sure though I'd ask on here.
Cheers

Does anyone know this for sure as I don't want to be in a situation where I am selling the phone as being unlocked to all networks and it turns out it's simlocked!
I would assume this galaxy unlock still works even after the completely reverting to stock?

OS update - Sim Unlock questions

Ok to start this off I bought my SGS3 off of e-bay, it came locked to Orange. Since then I have flashed the XXBLG8 rom on to the phone now and have also rooted it. I used GalaxSim Unlock to unlock my phone. I'm just curious to know that if when Jelly Bean arrives for the S3, will I have to re-unlock my phone again or will it still be unlocked?
Thanks in advance!
~Nik
The phone will remain SIM unlocked.

I did this with my gs3 that was on 3. I have flashed many times and still remains unlocked.
What I am not sure is if it is unlocked to all networks now or if it is just allowing me time use it on the orange SIM I had in there at the time.

If I root Sony Xperia U will it unlock phone to all networks?

Hi, I'm in the UK and looking at buying the xperia u for my sister. However it is locked on either o2 or Vodafone, depending on where I buy it from.
My question is how do I unlock the phone to make it sim free, I want to put a t mobile sim in there.
Do I root the phone to make it sim free? Or is there some other method.
Thanks for any help.

Buy it from phones4u and it'll be unlocked. No rooting doesn't unlock
Also depending on what she wants it for the 'U' isn't that great really. If you're buying it out right then get an S off eBay. They go for only around 120-150 area

O2 will unlock it for free if you have a contract with them (or get someone with a contract to do it).
CPW stock is also unlocked.
You have to install a Custom Rom

are you sure this will work?
Installing a custom rom or rooting the device will not make your phon sim free. If you want a network unlocked phone get it factory unlocked otherwis you will end paying for an unlocking service.

[Q] s3 unlocking

Ok I have searched so this thread is just for confirmation.
My sister will be getting me a s3 i9300 on her contract with orange, I plan to use it on my o2 sim.
Am I right I just need to root the phone, then use GalaxSim Unlock once to perm unlock it?
upgrading from galaxy ace so whilst its not the latest its one hell of an upgrade still
Yeah, but remember backup efs

As a matter of fact, all my contracted phones came unlocked (Vodafone Motorola (Some sort of flip-phone, or whatever they're called), T-Mobile: M7600, Omnia 7, HTC 7 Pro, GS II, GNexus, GSIII)...
And so did this of friends and relatives. We live in Europe, not America. We still have those freedoms

In the UK, only phones4u, cpw etc give you unbranded and unlocked phones on contract. This is because they bulk buy. The same handset can be given out regardless of carrier choice. They are never left short of o2 handsets with 3643 orange handsets they can't sell.
If you go direct from the carrier you will get a branded and sim locked handset

Locked Bootloader? NOPE!!!

I have been hearing around the xda community that this wonderful device will be joining the blacklisted devices over at at&t and Verizon. I am referring to the bootloader. Any good news out there?

Oops. Does this belong in questions and answers ?

Yes it does go in Q&A.
There are working models at best buy. I'm not 100% sure how you would check...probably just boot into the bootloader and see what it says.
The T-Mobile version boot loader is usually unlocked.

Think we will have to wait and see really.
Not sure when pre orders will ship, but we should be able to find out April 11th

I'm not buying until I know for sure. Even then I might go with HTC since KNOX Security sucks.
I'm gonna tell T-Mobile as soon as I get mine that everything's working fine, don't want a replacement, but note that knox was already tripped when I got it. Ha ha
Not sure how they can dispute that later for warranty issues.
Even though I'm probably not going to root it or anything for a while.

T-Mobile WILL have LOCKED BL
Guys here
This time around it looks like AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile will have S5 with locked bootloader. (Only Sprint's S5 will have unlocked BL).
1. AT&T started with S4 and continued the tradition there after (G2, N3 etc.) (Also no dev edition AFAIK)
2. T-Mobile started with LG G Flex and looks like it will continue the tradition with S5. (Source) (Also no dev edition AFAIK)
3. Verizon started who knows when? (At least verizon is nice enough to have Dev edition, albeit expensive as hell).
What does all this mean?
Well you can't have "traditional" custom recovery so that means NO ASOP, NO custom Kernels etc.
You can have a recovery called "Safestrap" which will allow you to flash only TW based ROMs and simple MODs such as bootanimations but nothing more.
That is possible.
Not a confirmation that the T-Mobile variant with be locked though.
With the most recent update to the s4 they could have made it locked but they didn't as far as I can tell. Just has knox on it.
Still will need to wait and see I guess.

Yup. I like the idea of a faster processor. Even if marginal. The finger print reader and water resistance.

Everyone knows development only really takes off after about 6 months to a year. Give the devs time to crack the possible locked bootloader.

I got a tmobile s4 and note 3 both with updated 4.4.2 bootloaders and they are not locked. what att do or verizon has nothing to go with tmobile. as far as the lg flex that was lg decision not tmobile as they are all locked. knox has nothing to do with a locked bootloader. I do not see tmobile locking the bootloader
Tmobile decided to lock z1s bootloader. Trend is pointing in the wrong direction if you ask me. Hopefully they don't lock it.

T-Mobile made Alcatel lock the OneTouch Fierce and they'll do it some more apparently.
T-Mobile Secure Lock.
Haven't seen that on any device so far and the article is almost a year old.

Alcatel OneTouch line are because of Secure Lock, and are still modern phones they are selling. You have the burden of proof on your hands. I for one wouldn't buy a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5 before knowing 100% it's unlocked or unlockable. Besides... the Note 3 is still unlocked and quite a comparable device!
We'll see in a few weeks.

Motherboard Swap

I just bought this mint condition galaxy s4 sch-i545 off of my friend. I want cyanogen mod because that is what I usually get on my phones, but my friend updated this phone and there is no way to unlock the bootloader. Is there a way that I could switch out motherboards from a junk phone to this nice phone in order to get the unlocked bootloader? I need the MDK bootloader or below to be able to get the new rom, or I could switch out with a phone that is already unlocked. But can I swap motherboards?

good luck finding one you need a board thats still running =< 4.2.2 aka firmware ending with VRUMDK
Is there also a possibility that I could also switch a board from another carrier? Like if I found a sprint or T-Mobile board could I switch that.
