[Q] s3 unlocking - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok I have searched so this thread is just for confirmation.
My sister will be getting me a s3 i9300 on her contract with orange, I plan to use it on my o2 sim.
Am I right I just need to root the phone, then use GalaxSim Unlock once to perm unlock it?
upgrading from galaxy ace so whilst its not the latest its one hell of an upgrade still

Yeah, but remember backup efs

As a matter of fact, all my contracted phones came unlocked (Vodafone Motorola (Some sort of flip-phone, or whatever they're called), T-Mobile: M7600, Omnia 7, HTC 7 Pro, GS II, GNexus, GSIII)...
And so did this of friends and relatives. We live in Europe, not America. We still have those freedoms

In the UK, only phones4u, cpw etc give you unbranded and unlocked phones on contract. This is because they bulk buy. The same handset can be given out regardless of carrier choice. They are never left short of o2 handsets with 3643 orange handsets they can't sell.
If you go direct from the carrier you will get a branded and sim locked handset

Unlocking on sammobile.com

Hey guys.
I found this today, on sammobile.com:
http://www.sammobile.com/unlock/
It says, you can unlock your device safely for 14,99 euros. What do you think about this? It's quite weird for me...
Its not weird
I went to shop and they charged me exactly the same!
Its fast and safe
You can also unlock for free using ODIN and a Unbranded package.

False. It won't unlock it.

You can unlock for free on your carrier! My Ace is unlocked, actually, all the phones here are unlocked, carriers can't sell they with the network locked.

[Q] Will a Galaxy S2 from Europe work in Australia?

Hey guys,
I lost my phone in Paris around 3 weeks ago while I was on a group tour of Europe. I am still waiting for my tour manager to send me a lost property form (as the French police wouldn't give me a lost/stolen report within 24 hours) and want to buy another phone. I am in London at the moment and am looking to buy a new Galaxy S2. I was wondering if all Galaxy S2s are the same – as I want it to work on the Vodafone network in Australia (Melbourne). I'm guessing I am likely to find a GT-I9100 (and not a GT-I9100T, as I had previously).
So the question is, will any Galaxy S2 work on the Vodafone network in Australia or do I have to buy a specific model (i.e. GT-I9100T)?
Thanks,
Jack.
Should do, yes. Will have to be unlocked to work on Australian networks though.
if both are gsm and if its unlocked ,then yes.
just go for the international version of i9100 , you should be ok.
since you are buying an international model with (non carrier locked) should work with any networks, no need of any unlocking.
I can confirm the opposite worked for me, lost my phone due to a night out in Melbourne on the Absinthe, bought a new phone out there and used it back in the UK after getting it unlocked no problems (On Telstra in Aus > T-Mobile UK)
But as others have said, fairly sure most models you get here are unlocked due to the international model.
Are you going to buy from somewhere like Carphone Warehouse/shop, or eB*y? You can get sGS2 off there for £260-£280 at the minute.
Why don't you wait two weeks and buy the s3!?

Best unlocked Samsung Galaxy series phone

Okay gang, I need your help. I'm new to the android landscape (note was my first android device) and was asked by a good friend of mine to find her a phone.
She's looking for a Unlocked Samsung Galaxy series phone that she can use here in the US as well as be able to swap a sim card and use for service in Italy when she visits.
So two questions. What device do you all recommend, and where is the best place to procure it?
Thanks in advance!! I know this is a galaxy note forum, but couldn't think of a better group of folks to field these questions

Agreed. The unlocked Nexus $399.99 is the best choice for now.
Sent from my AT&T Galaxy Note™ - please forgive any typos
Here's a list of frequencies used by country:
http://allworldcellphones.com/gsm-frequencies-list.htm
Italy uses GSM 900 and 1800 frequencies which is supported by the International Note as well as the I717. I didn't see anything about LTE or HSDPA related figures, but I only looked for 3 min and clicked the first link.
My suggestion would be for her to determine what she wants in a phone. Does she want to take notes? does she want a small phone? As long as the phone has the proper frequencies, she would be able to use it in Italy. Most AT&T phones have the capability of running 800 and 1800 as well as many others, but verify by looking at the specs before buying. If she has a US carrier in mind (like AT&T) she can buy one of those subsidized and pay an unlock fee from a site (cheapest I've heard of was $8) and will probably save money.
If she wants to buy a phone outright I'd say look at the galaxy 2 series. From what I hear it's a great phone, a large community here (if she feels the urge to mod it) and can pick a new unlocked one for about 400.
Hope this helps a little.
any international unlocked phone will work. the international gs3 wouldnt be a bad bet. n7000 as well. you just wont have lte. I would not recommend an at&t direct phone because it will not be unlocked. so sim flipping could be an issue in italy.
International Galaxy Note, Galaxy Nexus, or wait for the Galaxy S3 to come out.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke

[Q] Galaxy S3 on T-Mobile uk

Hello
Can anyone tell me if the s3 on t-mobile uk is heavily branded? Both the handset itself and the operating system with added apps etc
I am considering moving to t-mobile, but if it is heavily branded then I will just get a sim free instead.
Many thanks.
It probably will be... But it's very easy to unbranded by flashing the unbranded stock rom via odin.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
All the S3 on T-mobile so far have pretty much stock apart from a splash screen. There are reports that are unlocked too.

I'm on T-Mobile in the UK and I received a Pebble blue on upgrade from T-Mobile, I have zero branding on the phone, and when I say zero I mean zero, nadda, zip, nothing. It goes without saying that I received my upgrade at about the time when there were just about no pebble blue's available, I'm assuming T-Mobile sent out the first batch without any branding. I consider myself very lucky. This is the first phone I've received from T-Mobile without any branding.
I'm not sure what it's like now, now that they've caught up with stock etc. they have no doubt added all the usual sh*t that they add to their phones.
I also got a OTA update when other people with branded phones were not receiving.
I also have a White SGSIII on T-Mobile and have no branding what so ever!
Not even a T-Mobile splash screen just the stock Samsung.

How recently did u get your white sgs3?
I just got my Blue S3 on T-Mobile yesterday, and it has no branding whatsoever.
I did buy it from Tesco Phone Shop rather than T-Mobile directly though, don't know if that makes any difference.
I've got white s3 from t mobile and there is no branding what so ever! I'm thinking if it has sim lock?
sent from galaxy s3
got 2 sgs3 in white on T-Mobile uk both no branding at all and both unlocked direct from my local tmob store in the town centre
also got OTA updates
I got mine through mobile.co.uk on T-mobile. Its not branded or sim locked.
You know I just noticed I've no t mobile branding on my blue s3. If course it says Samsung but not t mobile.

Maybe the first batch will be this way. Here in the U.S t mobile released the S3 to few t-mobile stores. Now a week later all the stores will get it. Do not know why they did that, but hopefully I got something others won't get. X)

Then again, maybe the t-mobile s3 will not be branded at all. I haven't seen a branded s3 anywhere...

i have a white 16gig s3 on uk t-mobile...and there is no t-mobile bloat at all..
plus the the phone is not sim locked at all...
Thanks everyone.
Took the plunge - just got a blue one today from the official T-Mobile store. No branding on the phone or on the software. Excellent.
Got my pebble blue from T-Mobile direct last week. No branding except for the browser homepage which was set to T-mobile's site, however surprisingly, it was SIM locked.
I have since rooted, unlocked and installed an unbranded official Samsung ROM

In Singapore, all phones are sold unlocked by law. Most likely, it is unlocked.
