Hello people!
As I'm fairly new to the whole android scene I'm having trouble understanding how I'm supposed to re-root my Galaxy S 2 after updating it to the most recent firmware. I do not want to replace the ROM at all as I'm quite content with the stock ROM and want to avoid random force closes/missing features, which is what I got in the last couple of custom ROMs.
I just want it rooted so that I can remove the bloatware Samsung bundle with the phone, and also to customise the usability of the phone (bootscreen, CRT effect, improved/silent camera etc).
However when using SuperOneClick 2.0 Beta 1 to try and root it, I get as far as:
SuperOneClick v2.0.0.0

I have tried search other topics and they mention having to reflash with an unofficial ROM, but not really linking to which one, and I'm not sure if it's retaining the stock ROM in the way I want it to (aka, untouched, just rooted so I can customise it myself).
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
You have to flash at least an insecure kernel for SuperOneClick to work on the SGS2.
You can also flash a kernel that takes care of all the rooting, like CF-Root or maybe even mine
Don't confuse this with flashing a complete custom ROM, it's only the kernel, but that one needs to be flashed in order to root.
Removed my post here as I found a kernal to use when I get home.
Thank you very much for the clarifications given.
hy
how root the lg optimus pro ?
need a guide thanks
1 º Download this suite of applications that I use (I added the zip original drivers from LG, which, with no specific model for this, worked like a charm):
www.megaupload.com/?d=U3L199Z3
2 Reset the phone manufactures (who have data to backup, use the File maneger Astro, for example), to obtain a clean file system Settings \ Privacy \ Reset factory data;
3 Extract the zip to a folder on your desktop and install the USB drivers, which are in the zip, the folder "USB driver";
4 Connect the phone to pc cable and expect drivers to be installed;
5 º Go to the pc start \ programs \ accessories \ command line;
6 After you open the command line type:
cd \
cd Users
cd (user name in question)
cd Desktop
cd (name of which are powered uncompressed zip files)
cd ADB
and the result is something like: C: \ Users \ (user name) \ Desktop \ Root Maximo LG Pro \ ADB
then enter the following commands:
adb devices (pressenter)
adb shell (press enter, and then the letter of the command line will pass to $)
echo 1> / data / local / lge_adb.conf (press enter)
7 After these commands inserted, turn off and then turn on the phone (very important this step), always with the phone connected by USB;
8 After restarting the phone, go to the folder where the files are downloaded and run the SuperOneClick.exe;
9 Select the method GingerBreak and click "ROOT"
10 When the process finishes (VERY IMPORTANT) make sure you turn off and turn it on again and update the application through the superuser Market.
That's it. Phone with root access.

Hi,
I've tried as you say, and i jammed on the driver installation. Why? On the pack you've posted, there's only a shortcut to the driver file: LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN32AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.2 - Atalho
and when clicking it its giving me a link to something that doesn't exist:
C:\Users\"username"\Desktop\LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN32AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.2.exe
Even so, i'd already had installed the LG software suite and so i've got the driver so i moved to the next steps.
when going to perform the adb shell command (error: device not found), i tried with mass storage mode on and off and msg is always the same.
can you please help me?
thanks for any answer
That guide is so complicated for n00b like me who has never before used Android. The stock rom is awfull anyway, any hope for costum roms on this one?
Hi!!
After running the adb command line and restart the mobile, i've started the super one click, it started rooting and in the end in step 7 he says "Remounting /system with read-write access .... FAILED", what went wrong?
I have the latest drivers for this smart and the latest super one click v.2.1.1
My LG has the 2.3.4 version of android and it's from TMN
Regards
is it possible to unlock it? (for free preferably)

But got delivered a Haipai Nobble N7102 i think 462Ram and 1gbRom and 1,5gb what the phone cals sd (but there is no sd in the card sleeve)
And i insterted a 32gb micro sd in te sd card sleeve
I got some money back because the phone is not as i ordered so thats oke now
*** The problems ***
1. When i (try to) call someone or someone calls me the phone flikkers i can make the but can t hangup.
Because the phone doesn.t reakt
The phone sometime.s doesn.t see the sd card restart then helps (for a while)
I already rooted the phone
Is there a custom rom for this phone that solf this problems??
I also like to put the 1gb and the 1,5gb together
So the phone sees internal 2,5gb an 32gb sd
Instead of 1gb internal and 1,5sd and 32gb sd
Sent from my GT-N7102 using xda app-developers app and yes i,m a noob and this is new for me

.54 cannot be rooted directly using binary.....
There's another method to do so...
You must be on. 54 then flash .10 kernel and then root using binary and then flash the .54 kernel back
