*NOTICE* To put an end to some of the unneeded posts in this thread, this thread will be remaining locked. If there's anything which needs to be added to this FAQ, please PM me and I'll get back to you ASAP!
This a short list of frequently asked questions in this device forum and the answers often given as a response. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document. Do not post "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.
Q1: What's the difference between "Development" and "Original Development"?
Here are the rough guidelines as to what should be placed in "Original Development":
*Official release of highly original and upstream custom ROMs (built from the ground up with significant original development within them).
*Official releases/development of such original ROMs, perhaps posted by the maintainer or their nominated person.
*A significant "first" in development for a device. This is something which took considerable time/effort and is generally accepted by developers to be non-trivial.
*Kernels which are built with beneficial changes that are not simply pulled from other kernels already available.
*Tools and utilities with a clear purpose, and which are well-made, and useful to users. They should have an element of originality, either in purpose or through significant improvement in the means of operation.
*Significant port of a ROM from one device to another, giving enhanced features or functionality to the users of the target device.
All other development work goes into "Android Development".
Q2: How do I root my phone?
There are a few different ways you can root your phone. Below are a couple of threads to help you successfully root your SII;
CF-ROOT 5.6 - This is a rooted kernel which will root your stock firmware and add busybox & ClockWorkMod recovery onto your device.
ROOT/UNROOT stock firmware without flashing insecure kernel - This simply roots your stock kernel so you don't have to flash a different kernel to your device.
Universal Rooting for most phones [ICS/JB] - This thread lists other methods to root your device, which I have not written here.
*NOTE* Always be sure to double check everything you read and follow the instructions carefully.
Q3: What are download mode and recovery and how can I enter them?
Download mode and recovery are very important in the rooting world and you will likely hear a lot about them.
Read the following thread to get a brief description of what they are and how to enter them - What is recovery and download mode?
Q4: When I turn my phone on, I see a yellow triangle. What is it and how can I get rid of it?
It will appear if you have flashed a non-official kernel from download mode. If you flash kernels using CWM recovery, Mobile Odin etc. you won't get this yellow triangle.
The easiest ways to remove it are to use the app Triangle Away OR use a USB Jig.
Q5: How can I fix a boot loop/ how can I recover from a soft bricked phone?
Fixing a boot loop is really easy and straightforward. All you have to do is boot into recovery, wipe cache partition and then go to Advanced > Wipe dalvik cache. If that doesn't work, wipe data/factory reset and then boot up your phone.
If you are soft bricked, simply read and follow the instructions of the following thread and you'll soon recover your device - Fix an unflashable or soft bricked GSII.
Q6: What is the best ROM/kernel/modem?
Honestly, there is no "best". It's all based on personal choice. For example; I may like heavily customizing my ROMs whereas you may like it to look at basic as possible. The best thing you can do is to just test out different ROMs/kernels/modems and see which you prefer.
Also, please don't ask which is the best because your post will likely be deleted as it's against forum rules to ask that question.
Q7: What does dual-booting mean?
Dual-booting allows you to run 2 different ROMs on your device at the same time. In doing so, it means rather than having to restore old backups or keep flashing between different ROMs, you can simply switch between the 2 you want to use.
Read the following thread for more details on dual-booting and how to dual-boot - How To Dual Boot Using Siyah Kernel.
Q8: I hear a lot about ADB. What is it?
Find out everything you need to know by reading the following thread - ADB Workshop and Guide for everyone.
Q9: Am I required to backup my ROM before flashing anything else?
No you're not, but it is definitely a good idea because if you don't do a backup and then something goes wrong, it means that you'll lose all your apps, data etc. It just saves a lot of hassle.
Q10: Why is my battery running out so quickly?
If you had bad battery life from the moment you got the phone then you're best options are either to buy a new battery OR send your phone to be repaired.
If, however, you used to have good battery life but now it's poor it could be because of a few different reasons. Either you overuse your phone and don't charge it enough, you may have too many apps installed, it could be because of the ROM or kernel you're using etc.
Try troubleshooting the problem, so if you have a lot of apps (for example), uninstall some of them and see if it helps.
If you'd like to analyze your battery stats and optimize your battery life, please check out the BetterBatteryStats thread.
For some more general tips on how to increase battery life, read the following thread - Battery Saving Tips.
The following thread is another useful option if you'd like to improve your battery life - The Complete Guide For Maximum Battery Life.
Q11: What is the difference between the different Samsung Galaxy SII models?
The main differences are hardware and region. Some variations will have better hardware than others. Some will have a slightly different look to the body of the phone itself. Some are also specific to certain carriers. To learn more about the Galaxy SII variants, please read the following link - Samsung Galaxy SII variants.
*NOTE* If you have a device other than Samsung Galaxy SII I9100 then this FAQ is not suited to you.

Thanks for creating the FAQ thread !
Just a suggestion for Q9:
Maybe you can add a link to BBS thread, as it is the best place for analyzing battery stats and optimizing battery life IMO.
And an example for battery saving tips => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16973603
I would like to have a link to the New members friendly Q&A thread.
@lt_ter - I'll make the additions later when I get to a computer
Newest addition to the OP - For Q9 I've added the following link - The Complete Guide For Maximum Battery Life
Can you stop asking/answering questions in here?
If you need some help, post your question either in the Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum by making a new thread OR post your question in the help thread which is also stickied in this section. Only ask after searching for your answer first though!
This IS NOT a help thread. This is simply an FAQ so NO questions should be being asked or answered in here.
If someone posts something which they shouldn't, just ignore it. I'll see it and report it for removal.
As said previously by myself and a forum moderator, ONLY POST IN THIS THREAD IF YOU HAVE A SUGGESTION/ADDITION TO THE FAQ.
A small suggestion, since many members have been asking about this recently:

Thanks for the suggestion. I've added it to the OP
I've updated the FAQ with Q1 and therefore moved all other questions down the list. Although the question isn't device specific, it still gets asked enough in this forum to warrant me adding it to the FAQ

It's not a frequently asked question so therefore I won't be adding it.

That, apart of being against the rules (since the first rule of XDA is search before posting) contribute to flame wars, angry users, etc.

Recognized Contributors are nominated by other users and/or Mods/Developers. They are recognised for their contributions which are not specifically Development, such as detailed guides, one-click utilities and other tools/mods.
Recognized Themers are also nominated by users/Mods/Developers, for their work themeing custom ROMs and providing standalone themes for flashing.
Recognized Developers are nominated and approved by the Developer Committee, for their work in Development whether it be ROMs, Root methods, bootloader unlocks etc.
Elite Recognized Developers are again assessed by the Developer Committee, and are deemed to have gone above-and-beyond in providing knowledge/hacks/tools/apps/ROMs for the XDA community.
Forum Moderators are appointed by the Moderator Committee, after submitting an application, they are the first-line of keeping the forums tidy, friendly and orderly.
Senior Moderators are the next step up the ladder, providing site-wide support for Forum Mods and looking after the nitty-gritty issues, as well as areas of XDA not policed by FSMs, such as the Marketplace.
Administrators are next. There are several Admins - each look after a specific part of XDA such as the Portal, the Members and the User Experience of XDA as a whole.
At the top is Mike Channon, who is overall Forum Administrator.
Other titles you may come across:
Moderator Committee - sits on the Mod Committee
Developer Committee - as above, but for Developer Committee
RC - RT Committee - as above, but for Contributor and Themer Committee
XDA Newswriter - publishes articles for the Portal (front page)
Retired xxxx - have since officially 'left' their XDA position
Contrary to what a lot of people expect, the thanks-meter does not figure at all in determining a users tag.

Ok my question:
My baseband-version of my ICS-version is i19100BULP6
So my number is LP6
What does this mean?
Since almost all themes don't support LP6.
So my questions:
1. Why don't they support this version?
2. Are they ever going to support it?
3. If I flash a custom ROM will I be able to use the ICS Domination theme then?
Thanks

Baseband is NOT the firmware so you are looking at the wrong code for custom roms .

Help Needed for a complete NOOB
Hi all, new member as i just got a samsung galaxy S2!
Ok, so i have bought a sgs2 of a friend at work. He was messing with it(trying to root it, he thinks) and did something wrong and messed it up, so i bought it of him for very cheap to have a go at fixing it. Things that are wrong with it - when you turn the phone on it just comes up with samsung Galaxy S2 gt-19100 with a yellow triangle under it, it wont go any further. I can get into the download menu, but i cant get into the menu to do a factory reset. Another thing is it will not charge, when i plug it in to the mains or a pc it just comes up with a battery and a little circle inside it, but dosnt move and dosnt charge! O and yet another thing i dont now what firmware was on it before, but i no it was O2 if thats any help. If i have left anything out that you need to no, ill be hear all night trying to get this thing going! Is it even possible for this to be fixed as i had a good look threw this website and the internet and cant find anything about this. I can post pics if needed!
Thanks
Ps. i hope i have put this in the right place, If not please feel free to move or remove.

Ok so the yellow triangle means he tried to flash an inscure kernel, which is fine but you seem to have got into boot loop. When you connect the phone to the computer does the computer recognise the phone. If it does then you can flash a stock firmware from here all the instructions you need are on that website.

2). I can't answer this question definitively because I don't yet know your build number yet, but themes and mods tend to be released for popular ROMs, you can always change.
3). You can see in the relevant thread which ROMs are supported http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334922 which at the time of writing appears to be LP3, LPS, LP4, LP7, LP8, LP9.

1. wipe data/factory reset
2. wipe dalvik cache
3. full wipe
4. wipe cache partition
5. when they say "wipe your date" what does that mean?
I would like to know what it removes and so if it deletes all my settings, files, or just cache.

1. Will wipe all of you apps, data, settings, e.t.c
2. That is to do with your apps and will do nothing to your phone that you will see, it is recomended that you wipe this when flashing rom or gapps as a make sure.
3. Same a the first
4. This will wipe a number of files, but nothing that you will see.
5. When they say wipe your data they mean 1 and 4, sometimes 2 if you are flashing Gapps

You may receive personal suggestions from the members based on their experience on the different ROM, but XDA moderaters dont like this question since there are lot of hardworks being made by the Developers during cooking of their ROM, all have got their own features, you have to test them untill you find a best for you....

You may receive personal suggestions from the members based on their experience on the different ROM, but XDA moderaters dont like this question since there are lot of hardworks being made by the Developers during cooking of their ROM, all have got their own features, you have to test them untill you find a best for you....

Ok one of the most used roms is here, although you need to be rooted to install this rom on your phone.
Hi Folks,
I want to root my S2which is currently on GB 2.3.6 with following specs:
Model : GT91000G
PDA:I9100GXWLC2
CSC:I9100GODDKL1
Phone:I9100GDDKL1
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version:I9100GDDKL1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7 #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWLC2
I wanted to root without much flashing and here is what I was thinking.
1). Get the insecure Kernel and flash it.
2). Get install SU with help of Galaxy2root.zip application
3), Once rooted flash it with original Kernel.
Now my Question is: For my phone specs:
1). Where I can find Secure Kernel and insecure kernel? Links and name of kernel is preferred..
2). if I flash insecure and then flash secure kernel, will the binary counter increases?
Any other preferred method for rooting ensuring stock ROM is same?
thanks
SAM
Read the stickies. The only particularly important detail is that you have an I9100G. The rules tell you to search before posting, do you really think in the year the phone has been out, no-one thought to ask how to root?

Hey man..given that its a forum..people can ask questions. Lot of time even after reading on forum you may still not figure out whats right for you..so chill.
Help me with the answer...
He did help you with the answer. All the info you're after has been asked for on here hundreds of times before (and answered). If you can't find what you're looking for with XDA search, do a Google search and append XDA to your search terms (do you know how many results I just got with "root I9100G XDA" ?).

Hey boss..Same line of argument..Did u even read my questions..I am not able to find kernel both secure and insecure .. just want to know what kernel I can use..If I am mentioning this it does shows that I have gone through material on net etc.
Help and move on..
Answers for such basic questions are almost always in Development sections (sticky threads, guides and so on). So I strongly recommend you visit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585413 , these users will be definitely more likely to help you. General section is occupied mostly by i9100's users, and sorry but we have no idea about i9100G.
One word. Bull****. I.E - I don't believe you. I absolutely do not believe that I can type those search terms into Google, get all those results, yet you somehow can't.
I know what the issue is here. You can't be bothered reading. You want the information spoonfed to you. We don't do that here. People here are encouraged to read & learn. If you were asking a question that was complex/difficult, I'd be more than happy to oblige you. You're asking basics. Answers to basics are easily found with only a minimum of effort on your part.
That you can't be bothered even expending that minimal effort says a lot. It tells me you'll probably try and take shortcuts when you do work out how to root your phone, and experience on here generally indicates people who do that end up with borked phones.
I am moving on. And I certainly won't be offering any help should you end up borking your phone.
Also, you didn't say please in your OP, which shows me you also lack manners. In fact, your entire OP has this "I want, I demand, give me" smell to it.
You might want to take a step back & reflect for a moment that it might well be (actually, this is certain) that you are the issue here, and not the two people who have replied to your OP thus far.

thank.. I will search..Only reason I am posting here is that I cant post it on Development. Seems Tough to get Original Kernal and insecure. one.. THanks a anyways.
Hey Man,
It may possible that you are subject matter expert and that why you might be senior member. But it doesn't give you liberty to write like this. fact that I am posting shows that I was requesting.
After searching possibly everywhere, I am just asking which kernel etc..it is humanly impossible to all the entries on forum. Doing google only I came to knw the solution I wanted to pursue.
Any ways..I am rest assured that I will never lose my phone by flashing incorrectly.. It will be not because of you but many of other member who are willing to share there expertise without make so much of noise.

Helo everybody, i have installed samsung galaxy 2 i9100 rom on samsung galaxy 2 1777.
Most of the keys are not working. so plssssssss i need help here. Thank u
OK, first off, thread titles should be indicative of what your problem is so that they have some relevance when doing a search. Secondly, this is a common problem whose solution can be found by looking at the stickies and doing a search, two things that are expected of members BEFORE making a post.
Flash AJ's Siyah kernel. It'll fix your key layouts. And in the future, please follow the advice of the above poster and use more relevant thread titles.
As Miami says, everything you need is contained in the stickies. However, for someone new, wading through the info may be a little confusing at first, so here's a little guidance. First you will need to flash back to I777 stock. Then if you want to install custom firmware, you can proceed from there.
I would also suggest you use this forum as the most trusted source. Read and study the stickies, also the links in my sig, until you have a good grasp of what you are doing. Then if you have questions, feel free to ask. But you should post them in the Q&A section, not General.
Ok, so I guess that is that then. Nothing for me to do here.
@OP, see the above. You have a Senior and 2 RCs that are guiding you in your ways. But no one can do this stuff for you. I know that Panic Mode has set in and that is fine, but make sure that you Read, Search and Read again before flashing anything.
Edit: Woops!!! Forgot ---> Moved to Q&A

Samsung Galaxy S III - International GT-I9300
This a short list of frequently asked questions with answers related to the Samsung Galaxy S III. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document and refrain from posting "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.
Q1: How do I root my Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300?
There are several methods to achieve this:
CF-AutoRoot by Chainfire
CF-Root by Chainfire
A custom kernel like Siyah, Speedmod and others which can be flashed with Odin or Heimdall
Use the toolkit by mskip
Q2: What can I do to conserve/improve battery life?
Official Samsung Touchwiz ROMs enable Smart Screen by default. You can tell it's enabled if you see an eye icon in the top right corner of your phones home screen. Smart Screen attempts to sense when you are looking at the screen to turn it on and to rotate the screen when you change your viewing angle but it is also notorious for draining the battery.
To turn it off go to Settings -> My Device -> Smart Screen then disable 'Smart Stay' and 'Smart rotation'.
To conserve your battery under official firmwares it is also recommended to enable power saving mode and, for all firmwares, you should turn off the WiFi, Bluetooth and your mobile data connections whenever you are not using them to minimize battery drain.
Q3: How do I flash (install) ROMs?
ROMs that come packaged as a .zip file are usually installed using a custom recovery tool such as TWRP or ClockworkMod. Unlike previous Samsung Galaxy S devices the recovery for the Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 is NOT part of the kernel. Instead, the SGSIII has a separate recovery partition. Custom recovery partitions can be installed using Odin if you are running Windows or Heimdall, which is available for Linux/UNIX and Mac OSX as well as Windows.
Some ROMs come packaged as a .tar.md5 file. These can only be directly flashed using Odin. Heimdall users are required to extract the individual tar files from within the .tar.md5 file and then flash them to the correct partitions using an appropriate .pit (partition map) file. Heimdall can be used to generate .pit files by extracting the existing partition map from your phone. Note that .tar.md5 files are actually just regular tar files with an added .md5 extension.
Q4: How can I return to the stock ROM?
There is sometimes the need to revert to the stock ROM, for example when you need to return your device if its still under warranty. doovd made this great guide to the process.
Q5: What is Odin?
Odin is a leaked tool from Samsung. It is used to flash firmwares (aka ROMs) to phones. There are many how-to's covering the use of Odin, such as this. Others can be found on the XDA WIKI.
Q6: How do I unlock my bootloader?
There is no need to unlock the bootloader as it is already unlocked! This is the case for most Samsung devices.
Q7: I have heard about EFS. Why is this so important?
/EFS is a partition on your phone where your IMEI code is stored. Without it your phone is an expensive PDA as you will not be able to make calls. Make sure to have a backup of this partition on a separate device before you attempt to flash new ROMs. TWRP and Philz recovery let you backup the EFS partition.
The format of the EFS partition changed with the release of the MG4 modem firmware so this can cause issues if your modem version and EFS don't match. Here is an explanation of the Samsung firmware naming convention.
Q8: After flashing a ROM I cannot make calls. I now get a 'Not registered on network' error on my lock screen and if I look under Settings -> About Phone -> Status my IMEI begins with 0049 and my serial number has changed to a string of zeros. How can I fix this?
There are many threads on this forum suggesting this problem is caused by an EFS/modem mismatch or a corrupt EFS partition. This is a potential cause but its more likely you have flashed a ROM with the incorrect CSC (Customer Sales Code) for your phone network. For example, you can experience this error if you've flashed a BTU ROM when your network requires a H3G (Three) CSC. It can also be caused by flashing a ROM using the PDA instead of the CSC option under Odin. You can check your current CSC by dialling *#1234# or connecting your phone to Kies.
If you flashed with Odin and you're sure you flashed a ROM with the correct CSC, the first thing to try is flashing the same ROM using Odin's CSC mode instead of PDA mode. If your phone is rooted you can try changing the CSC mode using a CSC changer app but be warned that doing so will perform a factory reset - wiping all your settings, apps, messages and locally stored contacts etc. If none of those methods restore your correct IMEI, serial and network connectivity then a number of S3 users have reported success by flashing A.S._id's rescue firmware.
Q9: I'm sure I've correctly flashed an SGSIII ROM with the right CSC for my network but why can I still not make calls?
If your phone was running an Android version less than v4.3 before you flashed a new ROM then you may need to install a patched modem and, if you upgraded to a newer stock ROM, a patched kernel too such as the zuluman modem FW/kernel. You will usually not need to install a patched kernel if you install CyanogenMod or a CM-based ROM. A number of kernels and modem firmwares patched for Android 4.3+ are available here.
Q10: What is the best ROM for the SGSIII?
Galaxy ROMs come in two flavours. CyanogenMod-based ROMs and TouchWiz-based ROMs. CyanogenMod is completely open source and forms the basis of several derivatives such as AOKP, ParanoidAndroid and many more. These ROMs lack a number of features exclusive to Samsung's TouchWiz like Svoice, Smart Stay, S-Beam and so on. On the other hand, they generally perform better thanks to consuming less resources.
There is no such thing as 'the best rom', it is a subjective matter. Please read this sticky thread in the General section.
Q11: Where can I download the official firmware files from?
Official firmware files are available here.
Q12: How do I enable Debug mode?
Since Android 4.2 debug (developer) mode has been hidden by default. Debug mode can be enabled by tapping 7 times on Build number under Settings -> About Phone.
Q13: How do I enter Download Mode and Recovery mode?
Make sure your phone is unplugged and powered off, then:
Download Mode: Hold Volume down, home, and power until you see the green dude.
Recovery: Hold Volume up, home, and power for about 5 seconds then release all buttons. This might take a couple of tries.
Q14: What is the 'Flash Counter'?
Your phone's flash counter is triggered and incremented after installing a custom firmware. This is Samsung's way of knowing that you have modded your device. Thanks to the awesome people at XDA, this counter can be reset. Refer to this thread.
Q15: What is ADB and how do I use it?
[GUIDE] ADB Workshop and Guide for everyone
Q16: I've been asked to provide a logcat. How do I do that?
How to read a logcat/ Troubleshoot your own issues!
Q17: TitaniumBackup can't find my backups anymore!
This usually occurs after upgrading to Android 4.2 when users forget to also update the recovery partition. Older recoveries can't handle the multiuser support on the sdcards so your data got repeatedly shifted to a folder named 0, resulting in /sdcard/0/0/0... etc. That is where your backups have gone! You simply have to update TitaniumBackup's settings to point to the correct location and your backups will re-appear.
Q18: I have searched everywhere and still can't find an answer to my question!
Have you really searched everywhere? Google? Have you tried asking in the XDA thread relating to your problem? Have you read the stickies and FAQs? If you have honestly spent more than 5-10 minutes searching for an answer, post a new thread in the Q&A section.

My point is that there are already FAQS and Guides stickied that are unread .All bar question 12 have been posted for a long long time in the stickies .
But i will be honest i have no idea at all how mods can prevent this forum from degenerating even further .
Possible duplication of sticky s in both General and Q&A may help .

It's been a long time since I registered, but is there some kind of big splash screen that pops up saying read the FAQ/stickies? If not, there should be!
And it should be like one of those annoying t&c's things on windows apps that won't let you past until you have scrolled down.
In fact, you should have to read instructions, saying things like search/faq/stickies etc, then you have to answer 5 questions correctly before you can register!

If you have read Q12, you would have gone to the Note2 section instead of the i9300 one. And I have no idead what you are asking, let alone the answer.
i think you should change the answer to Q7

FAQ Post 1
Frequently Asked Questions
HTC Rezound (ADR6425/Vigor)
This a short list of frequently asked questions in this device forum and the answers often given as a response. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document. Do not post "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.
Q1: I try to ask a question in a development thread, but I keep getting flamed or called a noob. Why?
Respectfully, development threads located in the development forums for devices are not the right place to ask questions. You must first search using the sites search features for your answer. If an answer for your question cannot be found, then by all means please ask your question in the device forums "Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting" section. Which for the Rezound this section is found here: Rezound Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting.
Q2: I try to comment in my favorite developers thread in development, but I do not have 10 posts on XDA yet. What can I do?
The 10 post rule is an XDA rule and will likely not change for the foreseeable future. It's intended purpose is to maintain cleanliness and order in our developers threads in the development section by preventing new members from asking questions that may have been answered already or posting random comments that are not development related in those threads. So what you can do is go to the question and answers section for your device to ask your questions (after searching of course), or, if you are knowledgeable enough, try to answer some of the questions you find in your device's forums or on XDA's questions and answers forums. You will gain your 10 posts soon enough, and even better, in the appropriate way.
Q3: I want to learn more about the Rezound such as the device's specs, where can I find that info?
You may visit HTC's official device page here (once it is made available again ), XDA's Wiki page for the HTC Rezound, or view the devices page on wikipedia HERE.
Q4: Is the HTC Rezound "unlockable"?
Yes. Please see HERE for more info on unlocking the bootloader. Note that the HTC Rezound is a Verizon global device, and is therefore not SIM locked in any way.
Q5: Why does my screen go black when I'm on a phone call?
Your proximity sensor is being incorrectly triggered. Most of the time, this is calibration problem rather than a sensor problem. To fix, download Chad0989's Rezound Proximity Sensor Calibrator app. You will see a "NEAR" reading on the screen. Slowly increase the High Threshold until you see a "FAR" reading. Increase the High Threshold by 3-5 more than it takes to trigger a "FAR" reading. Test the new settings by covering and uncovering the Verizon logo on the front of the phone. The reading should switch between NEAR and FAR. Check "Set on boot" and close the app. If this fix does not work for you, your proximity sensor is bad, and you will need to contact Verizon for a replacement phone.
Q6: Why is my MicroSD card not being read or found by the device?
Please ensure your MicroSD card is formatted properly to fat32. More info on properly formatting an sd card can be found by doing a simple search in Google.
Q7: There is a bug in my favorite developers rom or other work. What can I do to help my developer?
Developers LOVE it when users get involved in trying to help fix bugs. The best thing you can do is create a "logcat" of the bug and then use a service such as pastebin.com to paste the logcat and provide a link in the developers thread with a small description of the bug and how to replicate it. For more info on taking a logcat here are two links you should read to learn all you need about logcat.
Link 1: This is the official logcat guide straight from Google/Android. Click Here
Link 2: This is an awesome guide written by another XDA member. It is a great guide. Click Here
Q8: What is a custom recovery?
A custom recovery takes the place of HTC's stock recovery once you root your phone. There are three custom recoveries TWRP (team win recovery project), CWMR (ClockworkMod Recovery) and Amon RA. When choosing which recovery to use, read the ROM/kernel op that you want to flash, most of the time they will tell you which recovery is sorted for their project. In most cases any of the recoveries work just fine, so ultimately the choice is up to you, but if you decide to go with a recovery that the developer did not recommend, you may not recieve support in that developers thread.
Q9: What is Wi-Fi Tether and how do I use it? (root only)
Wi-Fi tether is used to share your phones data connection (3G/4G) with another WiFi enabled device. It is not recommended to use WiFi Tether as your primary home internet. Doing so could cause excessive data charges on your bill. For a more comprehensive explanation and how to install and use Click Here
Q10: What is ADB and how do I use it?
Please see the official Google/Android ADB Guide
Q11: What is the proper way to install a Rom?
In almost every case the proper instructions for flashing a custom Rom will be posted in the ROM's OP. The typical instructions consist of downloading the ROM, transferring it to the root of your SD Card, Checking MD5 Sum, reboot to recovery, perform factory data reset, wipe system, data, dalvik cache, and cache, followed by installing the ROM from your external SD Card. Please do not report bugs to the developer if you have flashed the latest version of the ROM over the previous version without wiping or following the instructions properly. If you do have bugs and have not seen those bugs reported in the development thread for the ROM previously, please take a logcat as instructed in Q7 and report it to the developer.
This FAQ is by no means in order or complete.
The FAQ will be an on going project. With the help from the Rezound community we can work to make it more informative.

Ideally this is the exact point. To be a 'general' FAQ for the Rezound. If you venture into other device subforums you will find they too also have the same general FAQ. Of course with relavent info for each specific device.
Also, Recognized Developers are allowed to start FAQ/Q&A threads in the Q&A section which should extend their Rom threads in the Development section. Since this is a relatively new program, not many of the devs know about it.
Excellent FAQ - thanks!
