[Q] xperia ray - wechat / weixin crashes - is it too many open files? - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

most consistently after a while spent browsing messages and user pictures (weixin is the chinese whatsapp by tencent).
i am starting to suspect that there's too many files open simultaneously in the system. weixin uses a separate file for each message / photo and therefore it will quite quickly reach a high number of open files. at one time i found 70,000 files stored in its subdirectories on the SD card - as far as i can tell, it doesn't do any housecleaning on its own.
the crashes are preceded by a wait/force close message. first few times the wait will bring results, then after a few waits the system will either freeze or reboot on its own.

dear seniors - what do you think - does this make sense? how to increase the allowed open-file handles? what else could be going on? is there a way to see a system log on what's going on?

[Q] Angry Birds - forcing it to save data

I have searched and there are many threads about how to back up your saved data and/or move it to different phones.
That isn't my issue. What I need to know is how to force the game to save your data mid-game.
I have given up on getting this game to be stable on my Streak. I'll deal with it spontaneously rebooting every fifteen minutes. What I can't deal with is that whatever progress I made between reboots is getting lost. It hardly ever writes to the file. Does anyone know how to force it to write completed levels to the save file?
I did find a reference that warns that the two critical files should only have rw priviliges, no execute, and checked them. Both are okay.

Browsing the web in Android is killing me because of its low memory policy

Today I (supposedly) disabled lowmemorykiller by putting zero in minfree and adj files. I already have swap partition set up (size 1 GB) in a class 10 SDHC card.
Then I proceeded to open all the apps that I have installed and set them in a different state from default (like opening its settings, opening a file in case of officesuite etc).
These things happened:
1. After a max limit, older apps started to vanish from task manager to make space for newer apps
2. used swap space did not exceed 122 MB
3. when I tried to return to very old apps, some of them retained their last state giving an illusion of multitasking but a text message I was typing disappeared, did not even get saved as draft. ALL web browsers were killed. Some reloaded pages from internet, Opera Mini and Easy Browser failed to save last state (they always fail, so does Adobe Reader) so they were back to home screen with all opened tabs lost.
4. After an incoming call, when I returned to all the apps a second time, I found that all but the lightest of apps had lost their last states.
After setting minfree to zero and enabling swap with 60 swappiness Android is still killing apps without my permission.
<rant> I usually have less than 10 apps open and some of them can be memory intensive. Multitasking is better than default now, but still kinda random. I can't ever be sure that if I open this document now, I won't find my previous 20 minutes of research session lost upon returning to browser (history is messy for retrieving long sessions and very short in case of Opera Mini. Even Chrome browser sometimes crashes and gets reset not to mention always reloading all pages while Android Browser in ICS only renders crashes. My data limit is 3 GB/month). The three major handheld OS right now are Android, iOS, WM7 so don't tell me to stop whining and change OS; there is nowhere to go. At least Android is open source and there is a chance of someone legally implementing proper (like in PC) multitasking in it except multiple instances of same app which will probably be a little too much to ask for from a community but seeing that browsing the web is my main concern and all browsers already support multiple tabs, it will not be a deal-breaker for me</rant>
So my question is, how do I stop this T1000 Ninja Edition? Throw it into the chasm of Mount Doom?
On a serious note, any help will be appreciated. If you can't solve it but know what is killing my app sessions, please explain that.
SO I have come to the conclusion that ICS's maximum limit of Background apps is 18. As long as the app is not older than 19, it should be visible in task manager and should be in memory. I have set swappiness to 100 and use of swap memory increased to 221220. I'll put further pressure on it to see how it behaves when lots of tabs are open but I am afraid that 100 swappiness will make the device crash if too many tabs are open. It has already started to suddenly reboot time to time.
Edit:
It does not work that way. Android seems to really have its own will in this matter. There is no rule found by me so far that can predict when an app will be unloaded from memory. It seems time plays a role too.
At least iOS and WP7 clearly state that they do not support multitask. Google is the worst of all.
Edit:
Chrome Browser is not loading the pages from internet upon being recalled from task manager. It is loading the pages from swap but looks just like loading over 3G. Any changes in the actual pages are not being reflected until I manually hit reload. Not sure if other browsers will follow suit.

♚ Media storage issue ♚

I'm running AOKP JB Build 5, and Dagr8's Kernel.
The rom is awesome, but something is wrong with my Media Storage, ever since I ran this rom.
I am suddenly experiencing duplicates of music files, and pictures, all stored on my SD card.
I clear data on Media Storage and reboot. I then have to wait an extremely long time before my SD card finally reads, then back to normal...
But then this re-occurs!
I can't figure out why or how to permanently fix it..
Help?
Sent from my Fish Tank ₪
I have seen users with this issue, when I had double [or ghost/double files] for my pic's [no music I use pandy] it was from restore quickpic from tibu, so I just reinstalled from the Market fresh quickpic app, it fixed that, but I have to from time to time backup my storage and just do a complete format, then put my files back on, I did upgrade to a better quality ext SD and did a fresh format of that and copied my files back on, no issues since then...
A side note, I had these issues going from ICS to Jbean, but since I did the above no issues on this, just my experience.
While I can't confirm this, I do suspect that the issue is caused by duplicate media storage events occurring within the rom.
This can be accomplished a number of ways, but I also suspect that it's an APK compatibility issue.
And depending on the roms used, will manifest itself when more than 1 app stores data, while the second APK will duplicate the data save function.
Check the rom carefully for more than 1 app performing the same function, such as a camera app or music app.
These APK's often have an auto save/restore feature, but save the files under a different file name and basically duplicate the save in 2 places.
Also, apps that auto backup will often save duplicate copies in different locations, by mistake, as they are not always compatible with every build.
Again, it's really a trial and error situation, as so many variables exist, and many apps share duplicated function without registration of a force close event.
I hope in some small way this may help you find the rogue apps.....g

[Q] Filesync > Grab and then delete source?

I have a download box that continually seeks and downloads new TV shows, and I like to watch them on my tablet.
What I want to achieve is making my tablet copy and then delete the sourcefile of the new shows my downloadbox deposits in a designated folder.
There are lots of sync apps out there, but as expected, none of them has the option to move files, focusing entirely on mirroring.
This means whenever I delete a show on my tablet after watching it, the sync app would replace it again.
Setting it to both way sync usually results in copying missing files rather then deleting the excess ones.
I have tried setting up an FTP server on my tablet and letting my PC handle all the logistics with a simple batch file,
but this all too often results in corrupted files because the FTP transfer seems to regularly flake out.
Does anyone know of a solution to securely and automatically move files from PC to tablet?

Android refresh folder contents after moving/deleting

Hello,
If I move/delete/create files, Android OS doesn't seem to notice. For example:
– if I use the default music player, it shows deleted songs, doesn't show new songs;
– the picture gallery shows grey squares with file names of deleted pictures/videos;
– cannot select new notification sound after placing new file in Alarms/Notifications/Ringtones folders.
Many apps (e.g. Music Folder Player and Challenger Viewer that I use) have a "refresh file list" option to update folder contents. It seems strange to me that this is even necessary but isn't there such a function for the whole system without needing to reboot every time I move around files?
I've got an Android J7 but I had this issue since S3 already and it annoys me a bit that this hasn't been fixed yet. I wasn't able to find anyone else complaining about this issue though.
Thanks!
