I wouldn't. Although I love my wife's RAZR it's already an 18 month phone. There're plenty of new and better ones on the market. If you're buying a new one because of budget, no problem, if you're looking for a new one, just wait fot the Galaxy IV, HTC One, Project X and so; or just go for the Razr HD or Razr I.
I think that for this money is a best buy
Stay away from Motorola, go for a nexus an S3 or an S2. Its a great phone, nice design (light, thin), nice materials, okay specs, but locked bootloader, locked sim and moto is trying to make this phone obsolete. Trust me, at least go for a One S. If your going to use it causally (no roms, verz. network, no root) then yes buy it but if you aren't....
ITS A GOOD PHONE BUT MOTO AND VERIZON MAKE IT BAD.
If you're not bothered that has a locked bootloader I suggest getting it instead of s2 depending of your budget.. It has a great design and it will be updated to jelly bean 4.1.2 soon

First thanks to everyone for giving your point of view. Right now i have a choice between the RAZR, Optimus L7, or HTC Desire. I honestly think the Optimus and HTC ones are not even worth mentioning (pretty old now) but the RAZR still looks like a pretty okay phone. I have a 25$ plan with Rogers and to get any other phone rather than the above mentioned ones, i would have to add 20$ monthly for data which im not looking forward to.
Back to the topic, rooting and custom ROMS are kind of a priority because i would like to stay on the latest version of android for the next 2 years or so. According to the replies we got here, it looks like its a good phone but just getting kinda old now. But if it has gotten the JB OTA, than i might consider it once more. Thanks All once again!

I have to agree with this list. Although I don't think the x1 down will receive ICS to push users to get newer devices.
It better also come with an unlocked bootloader IF we get ICS!
Good news. We deserve SOMETHING from Motorola. If not an unlocked bootloader then ICS for sure. Motorola has given us nothing but a few crappy bug fixes. lol. But Im not in too much of a hurry though since I have CM7 now.

True, very true. But, to have an official ICS means possibly that Dragonzkiller and company can REALLY go to town on CM9 for the X2!
Motorola better not stiff us on ICS like they did the boot loaders.
But, the X2 will still be my final Moto device since they lied to us about the boot loaders and have not returned a single email I've sent. And I've been cordial and tactful. No hate, no cussing, no name-calling; very business-like but frank and to the point.

It didn't, only way to get GB on the OG was through custom ROMs such as CM7.
ICS maybe is better then no ICS at all... err. Think we all need patience, I am sure Moto will be pushing ICS to their 4G devices first, but who knows.

Is somebody working on CM9 or ICS for X2 or are we going to need a pushed ICS update for the kernel before a ROM is attempted?
I doubt we will get it but if we do? A 4.0 superbloated blur infested phone is what we will have. My question would be...will 2nd init likely have to be started from scratch?

I hope we definitely get it, but if CM7 mod can get out of beta and be almost 100% working I'll be fine with that until ICS. Personally I think it's 50/50 for us to get it or not. It's arguably the best pure 3G dual-core phone on the market

I'm not sure that is true. The jb update for the s2 is still a rumour and the aosp rom building is quite a pain in the ass for what I've heard.
I juat traded my S2 for a Razr Maxx today because I think it is more likely for the moto to get a fully working jb rom due to the Omap processor against the exynos in the s2.

Don't worry ... if Moto doens't move in that direction it'll be very easy to port cm10 ... as far as I've seen. I'm already "Jellybeing" in my Acer Iconia a500 with an alpha port from cm10, and EVERYTHING works... I think they'll have it working full in less than a month. Only some bugs and stuff but camera, wifi, bt, gps, all is working and it's very very smooth..
I don't think it'll be so difficult to port cm10 to the Razr... it seems that the drivers and stuff haven't changed from ICS.
Or maybe I'm wrong. I'm not a developer... but everything points as it's not a big deal from ICS to JB... just some minor changes and "project butter" stuff, that doesn't seem to be that difficult to integrate (maybe it's only changes in the core of Android to make things different internally but doesn't affect compatibility)
Cheers

Droid X2 was released May of 2011.
It would be amazing if we got Jelly Bean. That could open a lot of doors for us. (CM10 and all JB Roms due to an updated Kernel).
The $100 is kind of a lame incentive if we don't get the JB update. Who's really going to get another Moto phone? Show of hands please?

A 100.00 credit is what u will get the x2 was lucky to get official 2.3.5...if you have unlimited 3g and want to keep it you can't upgrade to a 4g phone so the 100.00 credit is useless. If you wanna loose the unlimited 3g then its a 100.00 credit and a switch to a laughable shared data plan...so either way your screwed...vzw and moto likely planned it out together

Let's see the details. I don't trust them at all. WE will see if it makes any impact. Motorola is still cow-towing to Verizon on locked boot loaders and installing root detectors. So I'm betting its nothing but a PR gimick.
Oh ,gee thanks MOTO> I got a X2 in OCt.. 2011 and you dropped support for it 6 months later, so now I can buy another Moto from Verizon for $650 and you will give me $100 . Big woop. you screwed me once, never again..........
Just my $0.02 US - I think if Google were to publicly acknowledge the work done by the various rom devs here at XDA and elsewhere, and especially, the cyanogen Mod Team, in advancing the capabilites of the Android OS, it would put a big crinkle in Verizon/Sprint/AT&T's propaganda about not wanting to unlock bootloaders and the bloatware the carriers put on the phones.
As another poster upthread put it, why put it on the phones if nobody is gonna use it and not contribute to the carrier's coffers? Give us a OEM interface but leave the crapware off and unlock the bootloaders if you want to sell more phones!
One thing Steve Jobs hated about Android is the ability to customize the OS. I say we stick it to Apple and continue to customize our phones to OUR liking!

Official or custom, prefer custom of course
I know there are roms available and I've flashed them, some has caused it to brick (probably my own error though), and I can't deal with a rom that doesn't have a working camera.. All this aside though, I am not a dev and really appreciate the work that all the devs out there put into custom firmware.
So far I flashed custom JB onto a Galaxy S2 and a Gnex for my friends. Kinda wish I hadn't because now I want even more lol..
Anyways, I am happy to donate to devs that are working on a custom version of a leaked GSM JB rom in the near future. Please pm me for alpha and beta tests, I'm turning into a bit of a flash junkie hahaha

Are you talking GSM? Stuff for cdma has been out.
Currently, devs are compiling CM10/AOKP(JB) jelly beans by using libs we got with the ics updates. Since JB is mostly system/framework changes, we don't need a new radio/kernel to get it working. There are dev/experimental jb builds being posted and updated by devs in the Dev Section. You can find out what features are working and more info on how to flash there.
