Yes I think this guy means a port from one of these devices. It is better to compile from source, a good developper could give it a go.

As far as I know it's impossible to compile Ubuntu from source and it'll never work. They are searching for a firm to build a phone with their OS, not just devs who port it
Sent from my Nexus 7 running Android 4.2.2

imho currently its not worth any effort to port it, even by compiling it from source if it do got source because its dev preview, not for consumer.
many, many function u would expect from a working phone just wont work properly.

today/tomorrow a porting guide will be up
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting

Why Only Nexus???, is it because of the xperia 2011 hardware doesn't meet the minimum requirement??

D'oh. Its just cm10.1 in disguise.
Code:
Since Ubuntu Touch is just a CyanogenMod 10.1 base with the Ubuntu Touch interface running in a container and accessed via chroot,
Shame on u ubuntu team, running linux distro via chroot in android already done many years ago. Thank you for making myself feels stupid for expecting much more than chroot ui.

quoting from the ubuntu wiki,
For quick reference, these are the current components used from Android:
Linux Kernel (stock Android kernel provided by the vendor, with a few changes to support some extra features needed by Ubuntu)
OpenGL ES2.0 HAL and drivers
Audio/Media HAL and services, to re-use the hardware video decoders
RILD for modem support
As Ubuntu is running in a separated container on top of an Android kernel and services, the communication between them happens via Binder, Sockets and libhybris.
Other than the very basic services (needed to re-use the binary blobs already available), the rest is just pure Ubuntu goodness

Can this help? I saw a lot of things worked in this ICS port.
Will it be possible to make wifi calling available as as in 2.2 ? I couldn't find it in 2.3 so I'm hoping 4.0 will bring it back.

I don't much think WiFi calling will be available in ICS. I haven't heard anything of that nature added but aren't there other alternatives on market. So what are the major complications people are facing with porting ICS to our devices

It'll be better if we have a working rom first instead too ask for features
in the pre-alpha state of firmware.

Andy, can u post the URL of the manifest of your sources?.. i m learning to develop android and would be helpful if you provide the URL.
Also how much is the size of the repo of urs? I am using virtualbox and want to decide the size of the virtual hd.
The virtual hdd have to be at least 50GB in its size.
I dont have a manifest.xml because i dont have a full repo nor provide
the full android sources but only modified code.
If you want to start with developmen on android, dont download not working
code, dont download the OS sources - it doesnt makes you happy after/when
compiling - better start with pure simple android apps to understand what is
android, how works android and what do i need to modify sources for my ideas.
if you really want to develop on the OS itself, i recommend to use a working tree
like AOSP Gingerbread or CM7 Gingerbread. ICS is still in early alpha, almost nothing
is working... it brings even nothing to write a lot of posts in development forums,
most developers doesnt spend time in answering "noob" questions, so its better
to learn step by step.

It's very good advice, when I knew ICS was about to be released I downloaded all the CM7 sources to be ready. I looked at Mik's thunderg sources, compared it to some other phones and just went through all of it to see how it works. I have a small notepad in which I wrote down what each file is for, why some things are changed for our phone and 'remade' CM7 for myself.
It means that when I look at the ICS code I still don't understand everything, but my head doesn't immediately explode when trying to work out why it doesn't work

[WIP][ThinkTank] 4.2 Building & related Discussion

So this thread is to discuss building and working on 4.2.1. AOKP, CM, MIUI, whatever.
championswimmer pointed out that some have already started prepping for 4.2: https://github.com/2011Xperia. And Supervenom has made an early 10.1 port: Alpha CM10.1
I would like this thread to be just for devs, so if it's some other general topic please go make a topic over in the general section
I've cloned and started slim 4.2 but I'm hoping this thread can be another jumping off point / place to squash and fix common bugs. Hopefully I'll have a chance to add some code and progress tmr.
First a common problem may be the camera with the new features with it. Maybe get photosphere working later on. Who knows.
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
I know you said just for devs but I just have to make this point. The cam seams hard as h*ll to fix I mean panorama don't even work let alone photosphere that's going to be one hard thing to do.
sent from my Sony Ericsson Xperia Play™(r800x) Running Slimbean 3.0 using Tapatalk 2™
I don't think photosphere will ever work due to our limited hardware. And camera shouldn't be that hard to fix since since everyone has made changes to get it working in 4.1.

Here is a logcat that I made off my build which didnt go past the kernel, maybe someone can look at it and explain what's wrong as I'm still a noob at it? Thanks
That has multiple errors ranging from bootclasspath not having any correct entries and the other libraries aren't being loaded.
Speaking of errors my build currently stops here:
Code:
make: *** No rule to make target `/home/andrew/slim4.2/out/target/product/zeusc/obj/SHARED_LIBRARIES/liba2dp_intermediates/export_includes', needed by `/home/andrew/slim4.2/out/target/product/zeusc/obj/SHARED_LIBRARIES/libaudio_intermediates/import_includes'. Stop.
make: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....
I found a couple of fixes here
and tried addeding direct paths to goldfish/audio which did not solve it.

what kind of modifications did you made?
why doesn't someone in this forum explain in detail what they did so someone else can make a conscious decision?
NO newer driver was ANY benifit to my fxp216. v3 was even the worst of all. so what's different about this fancy "20-50%-more-smooth-Beast" driver?
edit: this is a development forum. so i guess technical details are relevant.

That would be pretty neat, although if I had to choose...I'd rather make absolutely sure we stay on current Android builds (like KitKat) in a fast and stable manner than branch out.
Thanks guys to give your support for this. Maybe a developper will see it and find it worthy of making a build.
