[Q] safe to upgrade rooted samsung stratosphere? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so after a long trial and error proccess I fnally got my stratosphere rooted and rom'ed with tweak rom plus rhc overclock kernel. its pretty awesome to say the least. the only thing is the tweaked rom 2.2 is getting a bad file error when I try to flash it so im on 2.0 right now and the phone eeps asking me to upgrade to the newest firmware I guess. is it safe to upgrade or should I just stay at the version im at. or does tweaked rom 2.2 actually do the upgrading for me and I think need to try reflashing?

[Q] Noob vibrant user update question

Im a pretty novice Vibrant user. I have flashed bionix fusion final onto my phone right now and i really like it. I just read that Tmobile should have the Froyo update by next friday and was wondering if i will be able to get that update. When i got my phone i rooted it but still ran the stock rom but was unable to download the ji6 update, it just froze on the galaxy screen. Can someone help??
If your on a custom rom they do not support ota's you'll have to odin back to stock to get the ota
V5 custom vibrant

[TELUS] [T959D] Gingerbread soon hopefully... ?

Looks like the Telus website is ready for the Gingerbread 2.3 update...
Durr: add https and www . telusmobility.com/en/ON/Samsung-Galaxy-S-Fascinate/how-to-002921.shtml
Now if only they'd actually release it
From the page:
As of July 2011, a new firmware version is available for the Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 3G+. Before you update your smartphone, you need to know your current firmware version.
From the Home screen, tap Applications.
Tap Settings.
Select About phone.
You don't need an upgrade if the:
Firmware version is 2.3.3
Build number is GINGERBREAD.LKF9.
Interesting...the actual update page still says update to 2.2 and takes you to a page about updating to 2.2...of course a couple of weeks ago the update page listed 2.3 but had a dead link...so maybe its actually going to happen in our lifetime
have you tried connecting to kies to see if there's anything there??
Theres a new version of kies on samsung apps today but it didn't get me gingerbread yet. new version is Kies_2.0.2.11071_128_2
Yea.. I updated Kies and still nothing.. hopefully soon.. I grow anxious
I've been totally OCD about update checks lately. I'm driving myself nuts
I was the same way when i first say the update now for 2.3.4 on the update page a few weeks ago...gave up when they switched it back to a link to the 2.2 update...now i think it will be back to a nightly check
interesting, kies is suddenly only reporting my current firmware version and not saying that it's the current one... but not offering anything new yet, hopefully it's a sign of a release and not just a glitch

Yea.. I noticed that too. I suspect that the server it checks is just not responding, but... fingers crossed
Just checked again.. back to normal. Hopes dashed. :/
That makes me a saaaaaaaaaaaaaad panda
I think they just like toying with us
They're mean now that bell has the SII, it might be time to loose telus.
wow
Been waiting for this myself - checked the NS page and there is an annoucement to get the latest as well. Hopefully I don't have to unroot or disable lagfix before trying ... might disable the lagfix regardless though since that appears to be best practice with any ROM.
Tried but also getting the 'you have the latest firmware' message ... doh!
I gave it a shot, I'm running Bionix-V 1.3.1, and it came up with the message "incompatible device" looks like you'll have to downgrade to the stock rom anyways
..double post, I have no idea how to delete

out of curiosity, why not just install one of the many custom gingerbread roms out there? they're no longer the bug-ridden hack-fest they were a few months ago. seeing as some of you already are rooted or running a custom rom, i'm interested to know why wait for stock?
i do understand some people prefer to keep their phones in stock and i respect their decision.
edit: i'm personally running Darky's Rom 10.2 on my T959D. Tried CM7 (nightly 67) before as well, and although that was a headache to set up on my fascinate, it was also nice to see the differences between a samsung and aosp rom.

Second that - what has made me gun shy is that the Telus Fascinate is actually more like a vibrant or i9000 - so custom ROMs have some risk.
That being said heard so many great things about Darky's - would love a how to from someone with our phone and how it is working ...
Heard from Samsung
Apparently not ready but its weeks away, not months.

Help Requested: Gingerbread ODin Rom

I have a friend that has given me the samsung vibrant tmobile for upgrade.
i dont want to root the phone, but want to use odin to upgrade to the latest out there
can someone point to the best latest gingerbread or whatever rom that is flashble with odin
Thanks
I only know for sure about the JFD file. There have been postings about a leaked Gingerbread rom, often in the context of people bricking their phone with it.
Whichever is stable I will use Odin to flash. If not gingerbread than froyo will do. Which is latest stable.

There is no gingerbread update for vibrant. Use kies to flash froyo. But I highly recommend rooting your phone and flashing ics.
I did a little research, and you can find out about some stock roms by entering t959uv in a search and looking at the suggestions, such as ka7, kb5.
+1 on the ICS suggestion. Any stock rom will have Carrier IQ and who knows what else hidden in it.

Help with upgrade to ICS

Im new to all this flashing and messing with mobiles and am a little lost so i need some help. I have a SGS2 running Checkrom V4 which im very happy with i have CWM installed and my rom backed up but i would like to upgrade to ICS. My issue is after doing loads of reading im not sure that its done through recovery and when you do have ICS on your device you don't have CWM so no easy way as far as i can tell to go back to gingerbread. I have odin on my PC that's setup and mobile Odin on the phone i just need someone to give some idiots instructions, what worrys me the most is no recovery. Is it worth waiting for a official ICS to come out that's stable with CWM or some other easy way to change roms, as i understand it some country is due it officially today.
Does someone have a idiot guide they can do for me of a decent stable Rom and how to install it and how the recovery works, i would really appreciate it, as all the threads have multiple parts that need flashing not just a simple rom there's add this and that. That doesn't worry me but i worry about becoming stuck on a ICS rom that's a load of ****, ideally i would like just a standard stock official UK rom that updates itself OTA or is stock with root and CWM but iknow we could be waiting a while for that.
thanks
Stickies...
Those are about the only thing i hdnt read.
cheers

[Q] Update to Gingerbread on DE O2 Atrix

Hey people, I just bought a new Atrix a week ago. It came with "4.4.20.MB860.O2.en.DE" (fw 2.2.2)rom. I found on the internet that it should be possible to update to 2.3.4. But when I try to do the OTA update it says that my system is up to date. So, Is it possible to update my phone to 2.3.4? How? I found a rom called "1FF-olympus_emara-user-2.3.4-4.5.2A-74_OLE-31-release-keys-signed-rtdach.sbf" but Im aware of flashing it with RSD, is there some other way to do that?
PS: I have not roted or unlocked bootloader my Atrix yet..
Thanks everyone!

If you want to upgrade i would recommend to unlock the bootloader and flash some GB based rom like Nottachtrix 1.3.1, those ones are the stock rom but enhaced I'm running right now Nottachtrix because i want everything working.
Otherwise you can get Neutrino, it's an excellent rom too.
About the sbf with RSD, you need to flash the correct sbf otherwise you will get the "failed to boot", so if you are not sure if it is for your phone, don't do it, take the safe way.
Im not sure pretty much about anything since all tutorials, files, etc.. are made for 2.3.4.. I found this post about rooting the Atrix. Should it work? And another stupid questions. Custom ROMs are installed using CWM recovery right? And is it possible to make a backup of my actual rom for applying waranty in the future? And about that sbf im pretty sure that it should work, but I want to hear that from someone that already did that. I just do not want to brick my phone after week of using..
Thanks! M.
