[Q] Possible to customize how the notification light works? - AT&T LG Optimus G

It seems so pointless when it only flashes once every 20 seconds or so. Can't I just have it constantly pulse when I have an email/text message/etc?
The way it is now, I'll be working and think I hear my phone vibrate, so I'll stare at it for about half a minute waiting for the notification light to either light up or not light up.
I'm totally stock right now. Is there any way to make the light flash at a shorter interval, or just stay on always, or something?
Thanks!

Using the BLN so my buttons act as the notification light. It does eat ever so slightly into battery life, but then I have a ton of notifications all day.

Notification light turning off

Is there a way to set the length of time the notification light will blink for? My phone will give me the notification light but then it turns off after a minute or so. So if I leave the room and come back it won't be blinking. It's when I check my phone that I see I have a message.
Is there a setting that I am not seeing? All I see under the settings for led notification are the types of messages you can set it for.
If you use a 3rd party messaging app you can do that

Mine is doing the same thing and it's extremely annoying. It seems to shut off a couple minutes after receiving a new email/text.
this sucks if true. It should blink forever until you clear the notification. OR your batter clicks over into power saving mode and disables the notificaiton light if thats even a possibility.

It doesn't...same problem with the Sensation as well.
I sent HTC an email asking if they plan on fixing the issue. Shutting the LED off after five minutes sorta defeats the purpose of even having one...

Did you ever hear anything back? From searching around, it seems all/most htc phones are doing this. If I didn't want a notification light, I'd get a nexus s 4g .
Try missed reminder from the market. If you have problems with it crashing disable gmail notification in the app.

Where exactly in the settings for handcent allows for keeping the notification light on? I have the same problem of the light turning itself off, and so I downloaded handcent, but all there seems to be is an option to just turn notification blink on/off; no set time. Am I missing something?

Thanks. I've tried several led notification apps and none seem to work 100%. I can't believe htc is making phones with led's that only flash 5 minutes. It pretty much defeats the purpose of a notification light except for those awesome 300 seconds it flashes for you.
How come there aren't more posts or fixes for this?

Yeah, but it was a canned response:
"We appreciate your feedback, we know how important consumer feedback on our products is. We appreciate your suggestions and will use them in our research and development of possible upcoming models. If you have any future comments or concerns about our devices please feel free to contact us. Please feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions."
I got a more specific response, but apparently HTC thinks it should only blink for 5 minutes. I'd be curious how much battery is saves. I have a feeling it isn't much. You think they could just leave it as an option...
htc said:
I understand how important it is for the notification light on your device to flash indefinitely until you dismiss the notification.
Unfortunately, the device will only flash for about 5 minutes and then the LED light will no longer flash until you receive another notification. This is a battery saving feature and cannot be adjusted. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

i work in a very loud shop and often go lomg periods of time without knowing i hav recieved a message. i use Missed reminder set to forever and blink time at 2 sec. my battery was still at 75% when i got home from work today. the program used 2% of my battery. worth it to me.
i think making that little led flash uses a lot less power than turning the screen on........
"It's a battery saving feature..." but it will flash the red one indefinitely when the battery is below 15%, when you need every mA of power you can get. Makes a whole ton of sense...

I tried Missed reminder, but had some problems with it or maybe conflicts other apps I had. It would start to only flash once I turned the screen on (which defeats the purpose ). I know the blinking led can't use much power, so their reasoning makes little sense. I'll give Missed reminder another go.
Fine HTC, it burns battery, but at least give me the option of having it flash until I check the notifications. That way, everybody will be happy.

LED as notification indicator?

So I just noticed there is a red LED on the phone, However I've only seen it enabled whilst in call (Am I the only one who hasn't noticed it before?) So anyway, I'm curious to weather someone would be willing to go about and help trying to be able to have it on when you have a notification, Or if there already is a mod? Anyway, Thanks
That's a proximity sensor, not led

It's a proximity sensor, this sensor ensures that the screen turns off when you are in a call.
Oh Damn, Dissapointed Would you be able to have it on anyway? But I guess it'd kill the battery?
That Red LED is barely noticeable unless you are in complete dark!

Ahhh okay Well thanks for the link

[Q] What is BLN

And why is it such a big deal? People seem to get up in arms over who to blame for not having it enabled, And I have no idea what it is.
So what is it?
back light notifications.
some android phones have an led that blinks when you get a notification.... so there's a mod which enables the four buttons on our device to light up instead.
Back Light Notification
it lights up your bottom keys upon notifications (sms, email, talk, etc)
My captivate was rooted and custom rom with bln. I have to say That is one thing i really miss!!!! I wish there was a way i could get it on a stock phone or an app of some sort. I love my new gs2 but i miss not having bln!!!
I guess it might be cool, as its low-profile dim lights instead of turning the whole display on or vibrating loudly on the table..
Still, with the fuss some people make about whose fault it is (kernal/rom) that it wont work, you'd expect it would be more.
anyways, thanks!
Very low profile, can have phone on silent, screen off, and seeyou have a message. I wish it was a stock feature!! Should be a must!
Stock GSII patiently awaiting Ics or CM9.
Im running the UCKj4 leak ROM and it has BLN enabled.... I've been using for a couple days. I certainly like the low profile alert and for the most part I haven't noticed any difference with battery life.

You won't notice any battery life. The LED are very battery efficient. Killing me not having bln.

I had this on my Sony X10 and it was very handy. In fact the LED would even blink different colors depending on the type of notification.

From what Entropy posted, it's not the LED's that kills the battery, it's the open wakelock.
To the OP:
If you've ever had BLN, you'd love it as much as everyone else does/did. It's nice to just look at the black screen and KNOW if you have a message waiting. It also saves on your battery since you won't be waking up your device constantly to see if you've missed something.

Correct - On the I9000/Captivate, it was possible to have a stable BLN implementation without holding long wakelocks.
On the Infuse, no one ever produced a stable BLN implementation, so all kernel developers eventually gave up and ripped it out.
On the I9100, I have only seen one BLN implementation and it holds wakelocks whenever the light is active, preventing deep sleep. This is probably how the patch avoids the stability problems the Infuse had (which has an almost identical touchkey driver). Given my history with BLN - I'm not messing with it, if someone else produces a patch that is stable AND doesn't hold wakelocks I'll pull it in, but I just don't have the time or inclination for it. (I don't use BLN myself.)
As to ROM vs. kernel - it's both. The kernel needs support, the ROM needs an updated liblights.
Well see how my battery goes on this rom, but loving BLN. Cannot function without it! Had it on my captivate, had an equivalent on the HTC vivd, and now I have BLN on my SGSII!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353513
I too cannot seem to live without bln and am glad CM7 has it working. For me to get around the wake lock issue CM7 has a timeoit limit you can set. I think I set mine for 30 minutes. So if I am a sleep and get a text or whatever it will timeout while I am still a sleep so it doesn't drain over the course of a whole night. It is listed under device settings, notification timeout.
There is also a backlight timeout but that controls how long the 4 soft button lights stay on just while your using it, I have it set to ALWAYS which keeps them on while I have the screen on. Once it is turned off they go off. But the time limits for it can be adjusted also.

Same here.
It's in my kernel, you're welcome to use it, just be warned that an active notification will cause your battery drain to hit 4-5%/hour.

It now works on ICScreweD.
For me, BLN is a must, as I often just have my phone on silent, laying on my desk and I don't feel like waking it up every time I come back in to the room. For this reason, along with tethering being enabled, i use the 2.3.6 leaked v3 rom by shoman. Soo niice!

[Q] Power LED indicator?

I've seen LED power indicator mentioned in a few reviews, but couldn't find it on photos. And I don't have Prime yet, only original TF.
So, is there really a power indicator on the power button on the tablet itself?
Also, if it IS there, I have a suggestion. There's an app Missed Message Flasher on market, which flashes LED or hardware button highlight on my phone (which don't have LED) when you got a new notification. Why don't someone make similar app for TF Prime? So with any new notifications it would flash even if screen is off.
I've found myself pressing power button just to check if I got a new messages in IM or a new email quite a lot during everyday use. Would be very useful just to look on the tablet and see if anything require my attention (new notifications) by flashing LED. Hope it's not too dim for that purpose, and power consumption should be miniscule. Yeah I know it's playing a sound when I got something new, but this isn't so convenient and I could be absent at the time when new message appears. Flashing or pulsating LED would be quiet and nice.
Maybe not as app, but as a part of custom ROM - I suspect this functionality would require root.
Because it's in such a weird place you would never check to see the color of the light

Its so small and located in such a way you would have to be looking directly at, its probably not worth it.
Well, in very bright conditions - yes... But in not-so-bright-usual-geek-dungeon even blinking reflection on the table or wall is enough. Again, I don't (yet) have one to test the brightness myself, so this is only a speculation

As others have said, the light is too small, and in a place that the odds of having it in your line of sight would be minimal. You would only have a 25% chance that the top edge of the unit would be in line of sight. Good idea, really, but it plain wouldn't work well enough to be worth it.
BTW, it IS on the power button itself, which leads ME to a question. How is everyone's power button? Mine is stiff as a day old dead dog, and I find myself squashing, pushing, pushing again to get the unit out of sleep mode. My OG Transformers (all 3 of them, have a nice springy detent of perhaps 1/32" - 1/64" (damn America for never adapting the Metric System! I don't know my milimeters from my water meter) The new button is just a mush,, with no noticeable travel)
Ive seen something that ll make a little envelope bounce around on your screen,
though im not sure how battery intense this is (then again this thing has a mamoth batterylife so I wouldnt care!)
This is one reason I still sport my Nexus One which is my main messaging device. I love the RGB glowing trackball which my co-workers all call the glowing eye of mordor.
Not sure why this feature is so overlooked. I guess as more feature phone users upgrade they don't know what they are missing.

Okay then Well, at least it's clear that it _does_ have LED power indicator. Too bad that new button is stiff also. Not a deal-breaker, ofc, but I'd be pressing it quite a lot during use.

^^ this. It is tiny and only in the dark could you see it and only if the tablet has it's edge turned towards you. In reality, it is 100% worthless and I am surprised it is even there.

Always on notifcation?

Can anyone show me an example of how text notifications and others will work with always on when you receive it, I am used to having a notification light and I want to make sure this isn't a deal breaker for me.
if you use always on display no notification led appared. icons of the notification appears in the top of clock
In terms of "alerting" you to the phone, definitely not as good as led lights, because from distance it looks the same whether you have a notification or not, and nothing really pops out at you when you get new notification. But I still prefer it because you can see all the notifications you have by simply looking at the screen without turning it on or pressing anything
Will AoD cause issues with screen burn in? Does it stay in the same place or does it move around? And if it moves around, does it move to random locations or does it stay in the same exact locations?

Stays in same spot - but of course notification icons and clock constantly changing it slightly. I dont think its an issue due to how dim it is. There is a setting to make it bright, but it warns of battery drain. I have no need to make it bright though.

Lol yea to be honest when I first saw it in a different spot it didn't even occur to me that it might be a thing to prevent burn ins. I'd even admit to having shaken the phone a couple times to move it back once I couldn't find any settings for the clock location -_-...one of the stupider things I've done in 2017
