I have an Orange UK S2 branded phone with a kernel version of i9100BVLPH-CL969772. I would like to root and eventually flash a ROM with jelly Bean onto the phone
I am reading the forums and I am trying to find an Insecure/Original Kernels for my phone but with no luck. I can however fine a baseband version of i9100BVLPE
I would be grateful if someone could point me to were I can find the Insecure/Original Kernels
Thanks in advance
Wayne

there is no exact matching insecure kernel for ur firmware BVLPH so u can either choose the nearest one available that is BVLPD in link below
http://d-h.st/users/LyriquidPerfection/?fld_id=2886#files
or u can simply downld the Tar version of Siyah kernel v4.1.5 or 5.0.1 (tar file for ODin) and flash the same thro ODIN to root ur device
Siyah kernel

Hi there thank you for the info. I have been to the site but there are two versions what is the difference between the original and the insecure versions?
Advice!
Hi,
I'm new to all this so not sure which insecure and secure kernels to use! Help would be fantastic.
My phones details are:
Model - gt-i9100
Version 4.0.4
Baseband version - I9100BVLPE
Kernel version - 3.0.15-I9100BVLPH-CL969772 [email protected] #3 smp preempt mon 30 jul 15:28:47kst 2012
Build IMM76D.BVLPH
Once rooted is there anything else I should remember to do/not do? I.e will any firmware updates via Kies overwrite anything etc?
Thanks

Since you are obviously new to rooting and flashing, may I suggest you read:

Also read about 'eMMC Brickbug' issue on 4.0.4.

Just be careful while using root apps and flashing and stuff. Avoid updating via Kies while ur rooted. It may cause issues.

Can anyone give here a KERNEL FOR ROOTING XWLSK OFFICIAL INDIA JELLY BEAN ROM? (4.1.2) GT-I9100 Official Jellybean for INDIA! (XWLSK). Is there a CF-Root Kernel available for this Official Jelly Bean for India??

Better not to use insecure kernels for rooting JB..
Try this Universal Rooting method.
Use Method 1.

I can't make head or tail of that method 1 given in that link. It says it is for ICS. I want to ROOT for JELLY BEAN XWLSK version only.
Can you just explain in SIMPLE terms. The instructions given in that Link are so COMPLICATED.
I'm sorry if I sound like a newbie, but I have come back on this forum after a long time. Earlier I just used to Root using CF-ROOT Kernels. Where has CHAINFIRE gone? Is he gone?? Can someone give me a link to CHAINFIRE'S Cf-Root meant for JELLY BEAN XWLSK???

There isn't one. Use the method that's been suggested, or flash the Odin version of a custom kernel which will give you a rooted phone + CWM.

Since ur an old member, u should remember that the first rule of XDA is to 'search before posting'.
The Universal method is for ICS & JB. Its also very simple and can be done without the help of a PC. U don't have to wait for CF to release an insecure kernel also. U can flash it in the stock recovery. But best of all, u don't trip the binary counter, nor do u get the Yellow Triangle!

Hi everybody,
I came here for help, as I need to revert back to 2.3.6 official stock firmware of an i9100P and so far all the tuturials that I have found only talk about i9100 version.
Currently I have installed on the phone:
Model Number GT-I9100
Version: 4.1.2
Base version: I9100XXLS8
Kernel Version:
3.0.31-889555
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Thu Jan 31 14:48:54
KST 2013
Nº of compilation: JZO54K.I9100XWLSD
After checking the back of the phone and going to Samsung firmwares I have discovered that the stock 2.3.6 is I9100PBVKL2_I9100PFTMKL3_FTM which I have already downloaded.
I have 2 questions for which I would kindly ask for your help. I have searched for 2 days, but I could not find reliable information as to how to do this. And because I don't want to end up with a brick I come here for help.
1st question:
How can I revert back to the stock 2.3.6 ROM? Can I just flash it with odin, or do I need a special files for i9100P version?
2nd question:
After I get to 2.3.6 what do I have to do to root it?
Thank you all for your help.

1. Simply flash stock firmware via Odin. No need of special files.
2. Root it by zergRush Exploit method.

1000 Thanks immortalneo
I would just like to ask if I need to select Re-partition in Odin or just leave Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time in the flashing options.
Sorry for the follow up question, but in some tuturials they use special pit files and csc files to revert back and I just want to be sure that I don't screw this up.
Edit: did you notice that the phone is actually a i9100P with a i9100 4.1.2 firmware installed?

Yes, I did notice that. But its ok.
Just don't change any options in Odin. Leave them at their default settings.
Do not tick 'Re-partition' or use a PIT file.
For more info, read about flashing via Odin.

Thank you I was able to revert back to 2.3.6 and now the phone is working correctly again. I had some problems with not registering to the network. Now for the root I am not sure why but it did not work out, It looks as if it did work, but after the reboot I still don't have su installed and all the options (usb debug. and install outside sources are checked).
I will try to update it to 4.0.3 official and see if that helps to get root.
If I can bother you with one last thing, do you know if there is a I9100P 4.1.2 stock, rooted ROM? Nothing fancy just something light, bloatware free and rooted with the latest JB features and a usable NFC chip.
Thanks once again for all your help.

There are currently no custom ROMs for I9100P. But you can install any custom ROM meant for the I9100!
Of course, you will lose NFC capability after that. To get back NFC, re-enable NFC using this patch.

Dear immortalneo,
Thanks for all your help. The reason why I wanted to revert back to 2.3.6 was because I had a problem with the phone not registering to the network. Everything worked perfectly on the phone, but the phone would refuse to register to the network. After trying different SIM cards I even thought that I had a blocked IMEI, but as soon as I reverted back to 2.3.6 the network started working again which probably means that the IMEI is fine. (please comment)
Then I upgraded to 4.0.3 stock ROM and I get the no network problem again (it even showed Safe Mode on the bottom left side of the screen of the phone), but as soon as I try to root it with your suggested program I get the the network working (after it rebooted).
What a strange problem. So now I have a the stock 4.0.3 (full of bloatware ROM) which I can't root with zerglings. I checked with root checker and I get the message "sorry your phone is not rooted".
The objective is to have a stable working 4.1.2.
Any suggestions?
EDIT: reverted back to 2.3.6 for root but still can't root the phone. Please see the print screen with the end result.
Ok, I get your frustration.
U need a debloated stock rom, right? Try NeatRom Lite.
But since it is for I9100, u will have to use NFC Enabler patch also.
That will do..

For rooting ICS, CF kernels or custom kernels are better than zergRush exploit method.
Just flash Siyah v5.0.1 kernel via Odin to get root on ICS 4.0.3.
Then you can flash NeatRom from CWM.

Thanks for the suggestion of the ROM. Downloading it now.
Now any idea how to install this on a stock 2.3.6 which I can't root? Any way to get CWM on it without root?
Please see the annexed image in my last post.
EDIT: Perfect will do what you have suggested, I'll let you know how it went.
EDIT2: Got it working as intended, registering to the network without any problems (so far), and very smooth ROM. The only thing I could not find was a way to add the Samsung Account (does not appear in the account options), as in case my mother looses the phone, the tracking and locking options will come useful.
But all in all it is working well (knock on wood).
Thanks once again for all your help.

Hi all
I just flashed my device Galaxy I9100G with the Stock Official Firmwares as this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679636
And before i flash i did factory reset from android OS not from recovery mode (Settings -> backup -> Factory reset) then i flashed the Firmwares everything good and it work great, then i try to root as they say here in first method, but after i chose apply update from external storage in recovery mode an error appear saying "E:Failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)" and i don't have an external sdcard i am using internal 16 GB.
Please help me

Siyah is a custom kernel, but its good too. If you want to root with a stock based kernel, use Philz kernel.

That's a really big mistake mate! If you had done anything related to the I9100 on ur device, you would very well have bricked it!
Both have differences in hardware, and hence use different kernels and ROMs.

Hello, I have my old I9100 with insane chip that I want to update through Odin using latest NEE firmware. Is it safe to do this or can I permanently brick my phone that way? If its safe which one of the tree firmwares released in march should I use? I have googled and found no real answers anywhere.
These three firmwares available at Sammobile
I9100XWLSN_I9100OXXLS8
I9100XWLSJ_I9100OXXLS7
I9100XWLSD_I9100OXXLS6
My phone now:
GT-I9100
eMMC chip Type: VYL00M FwRev: 0X19
Android 4.0.3
Baseband
I9100XXLPX
Thanks
Flashing via Odin is safe and doesn't brick ur phone.
And since u have 4.0.3, ur safe from it.
Please read about 'eMMC Brickbug' issue on 4.0.4.

Hi buddy.
According to your build no. (XWLSN), Siyah kernel 6.0b5 should work fine.
I am using stock jelly bean firmware from nordic region on my galaxy s2 and I rooted my device by insecure kernel method by using the above said kernel.
Cheers.

I have tried to find it XDA.I have used the search button, but nothing..I have been told that I can find the right kernel on XDA website. So if it is on XDA website, so can you show where?

Next time, search better.
P.S. like another member said, you can also use Siyah v6 kernel to root, which can be found here:

Huh? Am sorry, but I didn't get u. Kernels are very small files, usually 5 to 10 MB. Which file did u see having 576 MB?
And what message did Odin give when it failed? Can u post a screenshot of it?

Strange....it should not fail...maybe I was wrong somewhere..
Now for the size, siyah is a simple(but good) kernel which acts as a base for most of the kernels (eg dorimanx)..
Base Siyah kernel offers less options for customization as compared to other kernels that use siyah as base.
Other kernels offer far more options in stweaks compared to siyah.
Those "many" options may not be useful for all the users hence the size of siyah kernel is small as u said.

Buddy I think u are mistaken.
U've downloaded a full rom instead of just a kernel.
www.d-h.st/frK
Just follow the link and download the kernel and give it a try via odin.
