Need help on rooting my S2, 4.0.4 on LP8 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I`m asking for your help as a final shout, after searching through many threads and forums for rooting my S2. I`m currently running on stock ICS 4.0.4 on LP8 [see screenshot below] and I really wanna root my phone and install custom ROMs, because the stock one is starting to piss me off..it keeps on freezing and it gets stuck when I copy a simple text...
Anyways, I`m just looking for a proper, (maybe) easy to follow and straight to the point tutorial on how to root my S2. I`m not a complete n00b or something...so could somebody please direct me to a tutorial as described above?
Cheers! :highfive:

Hey,
just a few steps:
=> Rooting phone
1) Download Odin (http://androidfirmwares.net/Tools)
2) Download root kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399)
-- just scroll down and search for ur version (settings>about phone>basis version)
3) Flash it via Odin
-- Extract .zip
-- load the root kernel in Odin (as PDA)
-- Put SGSII in download mode (Vol-, Home and Powerbutton)
-- Press "Start"

So, I finally did it! Thanks for your support guys!! My device is now rooted with siyah kernel v4.1.5!! Tried it and it works!!
The only thing is that I have that pesky Yellow Triangle sign when I boot the phone so my question is:
- What`s the best way to get rid of it? Is "Triangle Away" safe? I`m asking because it says that it can brick your phone...forever. What would you guys recommend?
Highly appreciated! Need to buy you all a round of beers! :victory:

No need for beers, just use the thanks button for all those that helped you.
Regarding the triangle away app, I suggest you fully read the instructions and information. I've used it myself and have had no problems

How are you rooted? Did you root using CF-Root? If so, you should be able to flash XWKJ1 (which is also 2.3.5) stock kernel via Odin to get rid of the triangle, then use CWM Manager to flash back whatever insecure kernel you wish, and the triangle will still be gone.
go to samfirmware.com and search your kernel version of I9100TDUKJ1. Should be there.
Rooted with CF-Root-SGS2_XW_LUX_KJ1-v4.4-CWM4
I will give it a try. If no luck I can try the samfirmware option.
The fun of learning!

True, this will work too - unless he has the new bootloaders. In which case he'd have to flash the old bootloaders first for the jig to work.

Download KJ1 firmware with Checkfus (PC version, search for it on here/Google), extract the kernel zImage from the tarball you download. Done (Yes I've tried this & it works).

1 Cfroot
2 Root without insecure kernel.
I use Odin, but had a lot of difficulties reseting the yellow triangle after, so I bought the triangle away app. (You don't have to b/c it is free at XDA). Now if you find Oneclick method easier, then go for it.

I have the same xwlp7 and rooted and install cm9.
Google xwlp7 u will easily find insecure kernel for it.
U can watch some movies on YouTube to learn it first and get comfortable. Video from galaxys2root.com is good.
If u want to put custom rom then buying rom manager app is the safest and easiest way.

if you have GB then u can use doomlord root toolkit, then you can find the cf root kernel needed to match your kernel, extract till just a zImage, download InitialCFRootFlasher.zip and installed zImage manually that will give you root and cwm, then install mobile odin and away you go with out increasing binary counter. if you are on ICS then there is a thread somewhere on here for rooting ics other than cf root.
InitialCFRootFlasher.zip you unzip it then put you zImage in the insert zImage here folder then click the rooted option
But with this method read read READ, and dont use wrong CF zImage or you will be flashing firmware via odin tofix it

Thx for this, I will try this metod and then notify you is this help me!
I didnt say anything about flashing new kernel, i told you a way of minipulating kernel you have without using insecure kernel and without yellow triangle, only talked about mobile odin for your plans after, but if you trying not to void warrenty and keeping binary count as it is you will need mobile odin to flash original kernel if you ever want to remove cwm, once it is in its hard to remove without replacing kernel. I see someone already gave u link for ics rooting. i read between the lines of OP there is normally only one reason people worry about binary count.
Ps also triangle away app is suppose to reset binary count anyway but never bothered with it myself. every thing i told you about can also be undone without increasing binary count to

4.0.3 XWLPI - How to root?

Flash stock rom after resurrection remix 1.9.1

Hi guys,
My friend's got a problem. He installed resurrection remix v 1.9.1 by westcrip 4.0.4 on his s2.
The kernel is:
3.0.31-siyah-v.3.2.4+
[email protected] #32
SMP PREEMPT Thu May 17 17:46:03
EEST 2012
He didn't do a backup before installing it and now he wants the original rom back. Could anyone here tell me exactly what he has to do?
He doesn't know anything about flashing roms etc and he did it as in the tutorial to get resurrection remix, so we need an easy tutorial (I don't own a s2 so I can't help him much).
His S2 has no branding.
Thx and please help!

Only your friend can know what firmware was on his phone before flashing the custom ROM. I suggest to use CheckFus to get the latest official firmware for the phone and then flash it using ODIN.

Using CheckFus is self-explanatory and for using ODIN there are already many excellent and easy to read guides here.
So CheckFus will tell which firmware is right for his device? It will tell exactly which firmware?
And could you post a link to a thread, where is explained how to flash the firmware using odin. Cause I don't understand anything about basebandkernel, and we don't know which firmware was there as he bought the device and which kernel and which baseband and whatever. Is there any tutorial for noobs?
Could you excatly post which firmware we need from here to get phone back on stock ics? We want a german firmware if possible. (I know you could just say ask google, but at xda heres a great community and I don't understand anything of odin and want to know which files exactly I have to download for phone, pda and cdc. That would be so great!)
Please help us!
Thx in advance!
Michi
EDIT:: I found this here: http://androidfirmwares.net/PhoneFirmware/Download/120
Can I download there and then I have to put them like this:
PDA: XWLPF
PHONE (Modem): XXLPX
CSC: OXILP6
?
And then get s2 to download mode?
And what about the kernel? There is this kernel on s2 right now:
3.0.31-siyah-v.3.2.4+
[email protected] #32

You will have to do quite a lot of reading. Start by reading the Stickies and then read this thread which explains how to use ODIN.
Remember: only fools rush in - take your time and read before flashing
Thanks a lot, but what about kernel now? We'll have to read the thread, but I just want to know if the firmware from android firmware was right and if I could flash the rom if I just put these 3 Phon,Pda and Csc in the fields and without repartition. So what about the kernel?
Sorry if I nerve you, but I'm a noob with s2/flashing etc and it's not my phone
Thx!

The kernel is part of the stock firmware.
So we just need to place these 3 files in the right order in odin (PDA: XWLPF, PHONE (Modem): XXLPX, CSC: OXILP6) and go in download mode on galaxy s2. Then we can flash the firmware which is stock? And then we can update via kies if possible and use kies and etc? there's nothing else to do? And after the we have warranty as if we have just bought it?
EDIT:: I downloaded it but in the 7z file there were only boot modem cache etc and these were iso files? What have I got to do? Where can I download just pda, phone and csc? I dont get that!
Pls help!

You can try www.sammobile.com for stock firmware too. You'll have to sign up, but it's worth it. You just search for the stock firmware for your device and flash through Odin. Do not use the repartition button or the pit file and you should be fine.

I doubt that, the 7z file contains one tar.md5 file. Do not untar it, no one said you should do so. For ODIN read and follow the instructions according to the link I posted in post #4. That thread tells you what to do with the firmware file.

extract the file u downloaded from samfirmware or checkfus
u will have two files in it (in Latest gb or ics)
insert it in pda and flash
and ur done
the kernel is included in the firmware ..
Thx guys now I hope this is my last question on this topic:
I read the guide and downloaded a firmware. Now I don't understand the thing with checkfus. Do I really need checkfus or can I just download this firmware for a s2, unbranded, bought on amazon and it's a german s2?
Can I only put this extracted .tar.md5 file in PDA Section in Odin, boot s2 into download mode and connect to pc. Then click start and everything should went fine?
I own a xperia mini pro and there I must flash kernel and then firmware, so at odin and s2 the kernel will be changed when I flash pda and is included in pda?
Sorry, I asked same before, but I don't really understood

Yes, you will lose root access.
You can download CF-ROOT kernel XWKF3 here: download.chainfire.eu/24/CF-Root/SGS2/CF-Root-SGS2_XW_CLK_KF3-v4.0-CWM4.zip
You need to first flash a stock based ICS ROM (at least), before flashing any AOKP based Rom

Whenever I try to root it, after flashing the Kernel (CF-Root-SGS2_XW_CLK_KF3-v4.0-CWM4), it always says:
Checking Device Connection...
Device Connected!
Restarting ADB Server...
Checking ROOT Access...
Superuser Request Has Been DENIED! Aborting...
Why it is happening and how to solve it ?

Thanks for your reply.
I just want to share something with you.
I have read somewhere in this forum that never do a factory reset with the stock rom (because of it`s kernel). First anyone have to change the kernel of the stock rom with siyah or dorimanx or darknight and then do anything you want.
According to that I have just tried to do that, but don`t know why I cann`t. Whenever I try to do that it always says "no signature validation",or something like that. I use CWM v.4.
Do I change the CWM to v.5 or v.6 by flashing ? I just don`t want to use CWM v.4.
BTW, now I am in :
Android Version
2.3.3
Baseband Version
I9100DDKE4
KERNEL VERSION
2.6.35.7 - I9100XWKF3 - CL276555 [email protected] #2
BUILD NUMBER
GINGERBREAD XWKF3
It` rooted. Do I flash any ICS rom in it ? If so, please help me to do that.
Please guide me.

1.
You are reading it WRONG!
What you read is only applicable to stock ICS 4.0.4 firmware. Nothing more!
Therefore in your case it is not applicable.
Those kernels you listed are ICS kernels, if you flash them on your phone, your device simply won't boot.
2. The reason why you couldn't flash those kernels is because they required minimum of CWM version 5.
3. You can change it by simply flashing Siyah kernel meant for gingerbread which comes with CWM version 5.
Like i said earlier, don't flash ICS kernel on Gingerbread, except an expert advise you on something.
4. If you want to flash an ICS ROM, it's very simple.
- First, you need to download Siyah kernel (for GT I9100, zip version) for gingerbread here : www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/01/13/siyahkernel-v2-6-7/
- Flash the Siyah kernel via CWM recovery
- Download any stock based ICS ROM of your choice. When you are done, let me know.

2. Omega_ICS_v15_Black_Blue_XWLPG
3. by using "Check Fus Downloader 2.1 (by respected luffar joh), I have got a firmware for my region.

Product Code: GT-I9100LKAINU
Latest firmware: I9100XWLP7/I9100ODDLP9/I9100DDLPA/I9100XWLP7

1. People who ask questions hardly make mistakes. This is the reason why you haven't yet made any mistake.
2. The third ICS firmware you posted can only be flashed via Odin. I'll say, just keep it somewhere. You won't need it for now.
3. Have you flashed the Siyah kernel yet?
If yes, please post your present and kernel details
