broadcast messages - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

How to turn off broadcast messages completely ?

anyone ?

eh, sorry, what is that "broadcast messages"?

Use titanium backup or something else to freeze or uninstall the program called CMAS Alerts. It's something like that CMAS something. I uninstalled it don't remember exact name.

you actually not answered his question "what is broadcast messages?" Do you recieve any local area/tower specific mobile popup messages (also called USSD messages) or scrollers like place name, mobile offers, etc?.
I never received such messages on any of Android I used till date. Used to recieve such scroller messages on Nokia, around 10 years back.

In US we have this crap. http://www.fema.gov/commercial-mobile-alert-system

[Q] Facebook notifications not working?!

So I've had this problem for a very long while, in that I get absolutely no Facebook notifications! Well, save for some random notifications for messages, and often times I don't really have any new messages, or the app isn't able to fetch them from the server. Tried uninstalling then reinstalling the app, clearing its data... this was on Froyo. Installed Gingerbread, installed the Facebook app from the Market, and still no notifications!
Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?
The app sucks its not the phone
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA Premium app
Well I guess it's not the phone but when I first got it, notifications came without any issues. And suddenly they stopped. :/

That's a bug in Facebook apps, sometimes you receive notification and sometimes you don't. Try other Facebook apps like friend-caster- they have an option to post notification to gmail.

Same problem
I had the same problem a while back, after much installing and uninstalling and double checking the notifications from my laptop and phone, I concluded that the problem was really the app, shows how buggy apps can be. I've been getting message notifications from the app (since I was offline in chat) but the messages were never shown under "Messages" nor in "Chat". Notifications on the other hand most of the time work properly. There were some instances on the previous updates that it did update, meaning there was a number there in a red circle, but when I opened my notifications, no actual new updates were there, although it appeared on my browser.

[Q] sms sniffing

Greetings to everyone
I have question about security. I have to know what options are there to find out sms conversation. I use Handcent sms in which I use privacy box with one person to determine that noone else except me would know what we are texting about. But one thing happened. Third person know what exactly we are texting about, even if I constantly deleted sms everyday. I can't imagine the way how he find out this.
I study software development so about security I know something. I know that handcent saves database of sms even if they are deleted or not. I used sqlite to find out what is exactly in the db and find out, that this is not right way how he find out. I also find out that in handcent autobackup option was checked, but noticed that when you delete sms, backup file changed and there were only sms i intented to be there. I also tried antivirus programs to find out if there is some kind of malware or trojan, nothing found.
So my question is: what options of finding out sms conversation are there? Even if third person can access mentioned mobile phone or not?
I will appreciate any good advice

Was it a known person? Or a random person? If he was a friend/person you know, then he either heard through the grape vine or got your phone or the person you were textings phone. I dont think there is a way to "hack" your phone from a computer and view the texts you sent. Unless he got them from your carrier.

Yes it is but would need to go through tones of red tape and have to be a Cop of some kind.
Most likely it was who ever you were texting. There are also other ways that it could happen. Apps that forward all texts to another number used to be a big one back in windows mobile days. Not sure if there is an app like that for android

It's probably the problem that this person has a friend which works for vodafone which this phone uses. Forwarding all texts is not possible i think, because this person would catch up on this earlier..

There used to be an app that could be installed that did all this with the user even knowing about it. Once installed it was hidden away and it never showed that the messages would be forwarded. It was a proof of concept app that someone made for learning. If they had someone working for the company it would have to be a higher up to have access to the cached data bases the company keeps which are encrypted.
I have a feeling the OP was ratted out by the one they were texting.

My attempt at disabling all weather / pres alerts

What I've done is use "Systemapp Remover" app to disable the messaging app. Then I installed Go SMS Pro for texting.
We'll see how it goes, hopefully no more stupid forced messages...
I hope this helps somebody...

I just went into the stock messages app, went into the settings and chose emergency alerts. From there I unchecked all of them except the presidential one because that one is grayed out. That got rid of all the Emergency Alerts which were very annoying.
Ya that's cool. I just feel that I don't know what a pres alert is, and I don't want to find out. That's just me.
Unless,of course, it would be something completely honest...like:
ALERT: We just shipped thousands of guns and grenades to a Mexican drug cartel, be aware if you are near the border.... (True story BTW, it's called 'fast and furious'.
...sent from my HTC Rezound that is light years better than your teeny tiny little iphone

Except they'd never tell you about it, and deny it standing on a stack of bibles after they did it.
I wouldn't mind getting a weather alert via sms (except we never get dangerous weather here, and you can't forecast earthquakes and volcanoes), I certainly don't want any of the presidential alerts.
Presidential alerts might be a good thing, but the user should have the option to disable them.

AT&T messaging app?

AT&T messaging app suddenly appeared today and took over my phone. I used Default App Manager to change back to the default texting app but the AT&T app still catches the incoming alerts.
First off...what in the world.....? And second, how do I rid my phone of it/never see it again?
Thanks

That's odd, I have an HTC One and for a while I used the stock ROM that came from AT&T and never had that issue. This is why I don't like carrier bloatware lol.
Mine was even worse, all of the sudden I had 8, yes, eight icons on my home screen. I thought for sure something had gone terribly wrong, ATT couldn't screw up that bad.
I'm going to make a quick list of useful apps that AT&T provides:

The same thing just happened to my phone over the weekend. You can go into the settings and disable it but the better way is to call att customer care. They know of the problem and they have to remove it from the billing on you phone. After they do that, go to settings and press uninstall. It will uninstall all the updates to the app and then you will get a message stating that all messages will be handled by their default apps again.
I think it was an update to AT&T's "Visual Voicemail" app which was a really handy little program that I liked to use, but now with all the extra features its a pain in the butt!

MMS not downloaded, 'tap to retry', T-Mo V30

I keep getting an error whenever someone sends me a picture message, saying the message was not downloaded, tap to retry. Tapping to retry does nothing, and then I'll get the same error notification several times a day, until I just go and delete the failed picture download. In many or all cases tho, the picture actually does download. I'm on T-Mobile but haven't had this error for years on several different phones..... just the Tmo V30. Anyone else?
I'm getting the same thing on my T-Mobile V30+ is super annoying. I have no idea what is causing it.

No, disabling Android Pay by using settings in the phone wouldn't cause that issue with texts.
The only reason I'm asking if because a few times when people have complained about stuff not working -- like Always On Display and other things -- turns out they used package disabler or ADB (using the same vague package disabler descriptions) to disable/remove what they thought was "bloatware" but was really stuff they wanted to work.
Or caused severe lag, because the phone apparently looks for what's missing before giving up. It's ironic people are slowing their own phones down...
1) a lot of things are interconnected.
2) true bloatware isn't labelled "this is useless", with important stuff labeled "this is important".
Right now there's a case where a guy and his wife both have T-Mobile LG V30, on T-Mobile with the same plan, same exact firmware. But one has VoLTE grayed out while the other doesn't, and one dialer doesn't show voicemail icon while the other does. He used the package disabler to disable some services and apps, but we don't know why they're different if he disabled the same things? He also doesn't know what to re-enable to get everything back.
But it sounds like that's not the reason in your case.

Yes, gotcha. I've kinda been there, done that haha. In the past. These days I don't do much to my phone, just let it be and work like normal. Well, hopefully it works anyway
Same issue on T-Mobile v30+.... sometimes MMS/photos fail and offers "retry" only to fail again.... doesn't happen all the time....usually on 5 or more mb images.
What's strange is that it seems like I sometimes get the picture AND a failed message. Like if somebody sends me two pictures, I'll get the two pictures and two failed messages. So I'll I wonder if maybe they sent me four pictures, but when I ask they tell me they sent me two. Weird

Same thing here
Hey all. I have had the same issue from the first week I got both my V30's and I am on T-Mobile as well. I went to the store and they tried every troubleshooting step they could and tried every combination of settings. I am using the stock messaging app and even with a third party google messages app, it still happens so I think it's a T-Mobile issue. They had tech support call me which was not very helpful because they tried doing the same steps the store did and I should mention I worked for Verizon Tech for ten years so I kind of know my way around a phone. I went and completed a master reset and restored nothing at all, and it still happened. I changed the sim like T-Mobile said and still the same. I connected my phone to my PC and used LG software upgrade and repair tool after the new software was available and still the same. Went back to the store and they are going to send me a warranty replacement even though it is happening on both my phones. T-Mobile is not acknowledging this issue and if this warranty replacement has the same problem, I will take it to the next step and report it to the BBB.
Any updates? Having same issues. Changed sms to mms and vice versa but still no change. Picture messages fail to download regardless of size even at 900 kb. People say they get my messages 5-10 minutes after I send to them. My group messages seem to be on a huge delay in receiving and sending.
