What I've done is use "Systemapp Remover" app to disable the messaging app. Then I installed Go SMS Pro for texting.
We'll see how it goes, hopefully no more stupid forced messages...
I hope this helps somebody...

I just went into the stock messages app, went into the settings and chose emergency alerts. From there I unchecked all of them except the presidential one because that one is grayed out. That got rid of all the Emergency Alerts which were very annoying.
Ya that's cool. I just feel that I don't know what a pres alert is, and I don't want to find out. That's just me.
Unless,of course, it would be something completely honest...like:
ALERT: We just shipped thousands of guns and grenades to a Mexican drug cartel, be aware if you are near the border.... (True story BTW, it's called 'fast and furious'.

Except they'd never tell you about it, and deny it standing on a stack of bibles after they did it.
I wouldn't mind getting a weather alert via sms (except we never get dangerous weather here, and you can't forecast earthquakes and volcanoes), I certainly don't want any of the presidential alerts.
Presidential alerts might be a good thing, but the user should have the option to disable them.

So I decided to sleep over at my girlfriends the other day and woke up to her yelling at Me. The then got mad at me for testing other girls that were just my friends ( I know, It's kind of ridiculous). Anyways the strange part is I had deleted the messages and then she told me she knows how to view deleted messages. So I've been looking around online for a while now and I haven't heard of any way to view messages when they are deleted. Oh by the way she isn't very tech savvy. So any ideas how she is viewing messages that I have deleted? Also I'm using handcent, but the messages are not on the stock messaging app.
Any chance she installed some kind of app on your phone another time that keeps your texts and email in memory seperately. Oh yeah and find a new girlfriend, even though she was right she shouldn't be invading your privacy that much.
Pimpin ain't easy. In the meantime, you should keep a screen lock on it.

Mm it will be hard to tell with Android , anyways , some people is having problems erasing sms because they come back up in the device(I think is HTC sense.com ) but.you should just lock the screen, and if she ask you why you locked it , well tell her that you want to make sure if you loose it don't want anyone messing with it ha ha

Ya maybe. It would be nice to know how she did it. Plus Idk how she will react to lock codes. I guess we will see.
From the msg list screen in handcent hit the menu button. Then select more. Hit delivery report. This shows all sent msgs but not received. Not sure if that is what she was looking out. from the report if you hit menu you can clear the log.
Freak I think that was it! Sweet! is there something like that on the stock messaging app or just handcent? Thanks a ton!
There are ways to recover erased text messages.
Most likely, you have a sms logger, something like smsbox.
As a side note, I would get rid of someone spying on me. Trust is a major part of a relationship, spying shows no trust, which dooms any future.
Make sure the sms/mms forward feature is disabled. Maby she set it up to forward your messages to her email or phone. (Messaging, Menu, Settings, Forward To...)

I just downloaded this game to play against my wife (she's got an Iphone), because there aren't many cross-platform head-to-head games.
Problem is, my wife gets immediate notification when its her turn, I get none; zero.
For those of you familiar with IOS, their phones have a notification hub under general settings where they can manage all their installed apps' notifications. In other words, they don't have to go into an individual app and manage notifications on the "micro-level", whereas with Android, micro-level app notification is our only built-in option.
Well, this began to annoy me because while IOS doesn't hold many competitive advantages over Android anymore, this is one functional item that I frankly felt blew Android out of the water.
However, I found the app called "Iphone Notifications" on the market (Google Play now, I guess) which essentially serves the same function as the IOS notification hub. I tested this app on some basic apps where I get notifications regularly to make sure it works (SMS, Gmail, etc), and sure enough, it worked perfectly.
The moment of truth though was setting it to work with "Draw Something" which I then did, and unfortunately, nothing; no notification. I went into the app itself (Draw Something), checked again for any settings to be changed, but the in-app notification setting was already turned "on".
Does anyone know if I'm doing anything wrong here or if there are work arounds??
Please advise as it annoys me to have to check the actual app itself to see when its my turn to play, but it annoys me even more to think that IOS still functions more reliably than Android at a level so basic as this....
Thanks in advance-
Ryan
It has nothing to do with iOS functioning better.. the app is poorly written for Android. Games by zynga are cross platform and they let you choose your notification interval but Draw Something has never given me a notification either. It also crashes a lot.. three stars on the market for a reason

Right, but the "Iphone Notification" app should alert me in the app's place, shouldn't it? I mean that's the only reason I downloaded the notification app to begin with.
After all, iOS apps all notify you on an Iphone through the notification hub, regardless of the individual app's native notification settings.
I am guessing then that there are API's or something similar that iOS has with apps that push-notifies the user which Android may not have (with all apps).
In any case, this sucks out loud because now I have to admit to my wife that there's still something iOS does better than Android, even if it's a small issue and even if the issue is primarily in this particular app, because even if the app is not up to speed yet, and even if it doesn't have much if any of its own notification settings, it still push notifies on iOS but not Android.
I realized you can't use the back key to go back once you're in a game with someone. Fun game but it feels like they rushed a bit too much.

I just switched from an iPhone 4. I HATED the iOS Facebook app; Android's is far, far better IMHO. On iOS I would only occasionally get a push notification about posts, and never for incoming messages. So far on Android, I'm getting a notification every time I receive a message. Not sure about posts, I haven't had any yet.
The other problem I had with the iOS Facebook app is the data was always old. Especially with picture comments. Even manually refreshing still showed the old messages, and none of the new ones. I'd have to wait a couple days before it would finally show up. I haven't had any such problem on my Note so far, everything seems to be perfectly synced with the website.
EDIT: Oh, and the only notification I've ever gotten with Draw Something is when the other person guesses my drawing - it plays a sound. No visual notification. It was that way before I made the phone switch as well. It's quite frustrating, I'm always having people text me "MAKE YOUR MOVE!"
EDIT 2: Yup, I'm receiving notifications for Facebook posts and comments as well. In fact I get them only a fraction of a second after it appears on my desktop. Soo much better than what I was used to on iOS...
Install noled and use that to monitor whatever apps you want. Its pretty handy

Yeah it works fantastically for me, although I usually have to calibrate the pen before I play a round.
Back to OP.
If the app has no notification feature on Android, what does the IOS Notification app have to grab to give a notification? I would not think that the app can just create a notification for an app that does not have this function.
I wrote the Dev and asked for this feature to be added to the Android App. I suggest everyone else do the same.
I DO agree with you 100% that this is annoying as all hell though.

Well, bad news folks. It seems that while we can indeed get to Blocking Mode, it doesn't appear to be fully functional. When I first found it and tested it out, it successfully blocked the calls I made from my computer via Gmail and Skype. But after some further tests this afternoon, it didn't actually block any calls made by some friends via their cell phones. So, while it's there, it doesn't seem like it's fully functional. At the very least, maybe this gives us some hope for someone out there to find a way to get it working consistently or that Verizon will enable it in a future update.

I was playing around with one of my favorite apps Any Cut. Regrettably, Any Cut (which isn't available in the Play Store any more) doesn't work correctly on Jelly Bean, but it works enough to be able to take a look at many of the shortcuts it's able to find. And low and behold, Blocking Mode was in the list. Since Any Cut is problematic on Jelly Bean (it kind of works, but not completely), I found another app on the Play Store that operates in much the same way that Any Cut does - QuickShortcutMaker.
No root required!
Here's how to get to it:
1) Download QuickShortcutMaker from the Play Store. (Note: the app closed on me a few times while trying to use it, but it eventually worked)
2) After QuickShortcutMaker installs, open it up.
3) Type Blocking Mode in the text field. The app is pretty slow when it comes to populating the available shortcuts, so it might take a little bit. Once it finishes, tap on the first result at the top (It will say "Settings" with Blocking mode underneath it.
4) Rename the shortcut to whatever you want. It's named "Settings" by default, and I changed mine to "Blocking Mode."
5) Tap "OK."
6) You'll now have a shortcut on your homescreen that will take you right into Blocking Mode (the icon will be a cog just like the Settings icon). Open it up and and block away! (Note: the shortcut on your homescreen will be the only way to access Blocking Mode, so if you delete it, you'll have to create a new one in order to get back into the settings for it)
Known issues:
The app will force close when trying to add contacts to the custom allowed contact list. But it seems to work fine when selecting "Favorites" as opposed to creating a new custom list. So if adding contacts to a custom list is force closing for you, add the contacts that you want to come through to your general favorites list when Blocking Mode is enabled, and then use the Favorites option in the Blocking Mode settings.
Thank you!! Now lets figure out how to get the S Planner widget on this thing.

I am as well. It's probably due to the fact that Verizon doesn't have it fully implemented. Try adding the contacts you want to come through to your general contacts favorites list and then select the favorites option in Blocking Mode. That worked for me. I've updated the original post to reflect this.
I didn't think of that. Thanks!

Blocking mode allows you to set a specified period of time during which the phone will not ring. But you can set it so that the phone will still ring for certain contacts during the time it's enabled.
For instance, I don't want to be disturbed while I'm sleeping by random calls or texts, but I don't put my phone into silent mode while I'm asleep because I'm worried that I'll miss an emergency call from family. With Blocking Mode, I can block all calls/notifications from coming through except calls/notifications from certain people. So calls/notifications that I feel might be important, like from family or certain friends, will come through, but all others won't. That way I'm only woken up by people who I feel are important enough to wake up for.
It's also helpful in other situations when you're busy and don't want to be disturbed except by certain people.
Wow EXCELLENT find OP!!! Much kudos to you!
I can't help but feel so offended by Verizon and how they butchered this great phone, or rather tried to...
After almost a month solid holding it back from us, they finally release it and what do you know? They strip it of features that are intended to be part of the phone as sold by Samsung. The fact that it's still there but HIDDEN is proof of this concept.
We need to send this info to all the big phone journalism sites out there like Engadget, Gizmodo, Droid-Life etc and blow some serious smoke up Verizon's ass. Let them know we are disgusted by their attempts to remove features from our phones that no other carrier has done.
Hopefully they realize they were wrong and to fix the negative publicity they decide to send out an update that adds the missing features back. They better

I sent it into Droid-Life this morning after I found it, and a short time ago they posted a story about it - How to: Enable "Blocking Mode" on Verizon's Galaxy Note 2
I doubt this particular issue will get enough coverage to cause any measurable negative publicity, but hopefully it can at least bring some of the stuff Verizon is choosing to do to light for a greater audience.

tried this, and like others got the force closes when trying to add contacts to "custom". Problem is, this isn't working. I even tried allowing no contacts (to block everything), and every call or text still goes through!
I tried this by calling from my work phone (that isn't anywhere in my contact list), and even call or texting from my regular contacts. These should all be blocked, but they all get through- texts and calls.
I've tried rebooting, but nothing seems to be blocked.

Hi,
Is there any app that has the option to have the phone vibrate when picking it up when it has missed messages or calls ? It used to be a standard option for androids called 'Smart Alerts' and senior phones still have it...
Of course they removed it now, as they ALWAYS do with the cool features, leaving only the crap.
So is there any app that has this? Smart Notify claims it does but it doesn't work at all... beware I have not rooted my phone and I am probably not likely to do so...

I don't get it, one of the coolest features since Android 5 and no one seems to even know what I mean, wherever I ask...
Absurd. It's when you physically pick up the device off from the table, the motion sensor then triggers a single short vibration to let you know you have missed calls and/or messages...
Anyone ? Thanks.
