Hi guys just see this in the portal of XDA:
The release of the Ubuntu Touch Developer Preview yesterday prompted a lot of activity on the Ubuntu Touch forum, and for good reason. The concept of Ubuntu on phones and tablets has been desired by many for a long time, and so it is great to see Canonical embrace the idea and set out on their own.
When Ubuntu posted the announcement about the Developer Preview, they mentioned that they would be releasing the instructions on how to port Ubuntu Touch to other devices other than the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. Today they did so, and as we mentioned yesterday, they will be holding a “Ubuntu On-Air” at 15:00 GMT today (Friday, February 22) where they’ll have two of the lead developers in a Google Hangout to talk about the project as well. For those that miss it, they will surely have a replay available at that address as well.
The instructions for porting are pretty straightforward. Since Ubuntu Touch is just a CyanogenMod 10.1 base with the Ubuntu Touch interface running in a container and accessed via chroot, if your device currently runs CM10.1 then you’ll be able to port this. The instructions for porting are found on Ubuntu’s Wiki and are quite extensive, so make sure you follow them EXACTLY.
so could some dev give us a new joy

Cant any of our good devs manage to give hus a new life for our phones?

I'm wondering if it is possible to Dual Boot/Multi Boot Nook Tablet?
e.g. Android + Windows (of course the one for Tablets) OR Linux OR even iOS OR any other?
Anyone interested?
I can be part of this development, though i'm newbie in android world and mostly i'm playing with MatLab, C, C++, Jave (very less) etc. But i think i still can be useful somehow and i am also ready to use my NT for development/testing purpose (provided that i get some solution of backup/restore with apps installed)
thanks
I would consider looking up this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21323255
Adam provides a little bit of insight about dual booting from sdcard and more!

windows 8 doesn't work on the Nook. Only the devices which come out with windows 8 can actually run windows 8. ios also doesn't work because there's no source code out there. Linux is under development, I think it's Adam Outler who does that.
yes, for windows/ios, may not possible but i think, linux is possible. i have been going through the threads. actually due to some hardware issues, like processor etc. NT can't be generalized. also, even with rooting, we are still far behind in using its true capabilities.
CM9 is on it's way. Currently sound doesn't work, the kernel paniks sometimes and some minor bugs are the problems for the devs.
well, looking forward for CM9. i hope it will give more freedom than existing root...
I looking forward for CM7, maybe alpha version will be release few next days.
OK so i was going to log into google on a computer to access Play and I saw the ad for the Nexus 7 and I read more about it and learned that it will come with android 4.1 and wanted to see if the Nook Tablet will have that abilty since the hardware specs are relatively close together. What I would like to know is if it will be coming out in CM9 for Nook Tablet or simply in a whole new CM or if it will come out at all? Thanks if you devs can let me know or if you guys will need to get a Nexus 7 first to see if you can and then just keep me updated from there.

The hardware spec aren't actually that close. We may see something, but I wouldn't expect anything yet. Keep in mind the source hasn't been released so no one can really work with it until then. Watch the dev section and maybe you'll see it pop up. Still there is work to be done before ICS is even fully functioning.
The hardware specs are not really that close at all. The Nexus 7 has Tegra 3, as the Nook has OMAP4430. Only thing similar is the IPS screen, which really don't share that many bonds.
Jelly Beans source will be released mid July.
Until then nothing can be done to have it on any platform minus leaked GNex.
And mamifsidtect having the device have nothing to do with developing, for that source code is needed.
Jelly Bean is more that doable on our platform, we just need more developers for faster porting.
Now that we've seen that the Kindle Fire is getting Jelly Bean...does anybody still consider it impossible to port 4.1 to the Nook Tablet? (Kidle Fire's specs are actually quite close if not the same as the NT)
Did you look at the thread right below this one? Or check the Development subforum? At all? Haha it's here!
Nook Tablet 16gig with Jelly Bean
thankyou for the item in post

you can run ubuntu on any android. I found a guide on youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0PNsnNe3E0
Note its the same ubuntu as the one on a computer not one optimized for a phone
Yes, I have known about Ubuntu for Android for a while. I am talking about Ubuntu for Phones. It uses a new, amazing button-free touch GUI. Using this would eliminate the dumb menu button that's taking screen space on my DNA.
Ubuntu is now an open-source touch-based OS for smartphones and tablets that is also a full-fledged desktop OS. This is amazing!
I just can't figure out how they support ARM and x86 architectures with the same kernel.

You could also use one of the roms, or flash Nitsuj's mod to get rid of the menu button on the bottom.
I would really love to have this ubuntu for android that linux themselves are releasing and have the ease of flashing it as a Rom. But I don't think they will release a version for every single device. I guess we will just have to hope someone to port it for us.

Ubuntu for phones uses Android as its base, so does that mean features that are broken in ICS and JB builds would still be broken in UFP?
Not really. I've spent a lot of time with these as I hope to bring it to the Atrix. But it's not based off those builds, In the video he describes that it is ment to be compatible with any devices that run android. It is actually built off their operating system simmilar to windows 8 and windows 8 RT. It will be released for the samsung galaxy nexus. It will function similar to how their OS runs on computers, where it comes with one OS, but it will be compatible with another. Ubuntu Phone will hopefully be able to run on devices that run android. meaning that as long as you don't have an iphone, or windows phone, you should be able to run it. Which to me is really exciting as I see a lot of promise with this OS, especially along side our lapdocks
That would be amazing if we could get a full supported ubuntu for the atrix. Im looking to reutilize mine (despite its broken digitizer)

Unfortunately, almost nothing stated in here is accurate.
The only Android dependency is the Android Kernel. So any issues we have, would still exist in Ubuntu for Phones.
I do hope the Ubunutu OS will be able to run on my atrix 4g. But yes, all android issues will exist if we have to stick with the atrix 4g kernal.
IF ported Galaxy R 3.x.x kernel gonna fully working before late Q4 2013, I assume, ubuntu for android will working flawlessly on our atrix
I'd like to try Ubuntu Touch. I have a Galaxy Nexus and a Nexus 4. It probably makes the most sense to keep the Nexus 4 as my "working" phone and install Ubuntu on the Galaxy Nexus. How easy is it to do this? Neither phone is rooted.
What are the advantages of going with Ubuntu preinstalled on a BQ Aquaris E4.5 or Meizu MX4 compared to installing a port?
I use Ubuntu touch on my nexus 4, which works pretty good. I don't know all differences to the bq phone build, but I know that the today scope and the nearby scope are only on the bq phone.

Is there a github or other repository we can follow for this?
Sadly, support for the Galaxy Nexus has been dropped. Instead, the Nexus 4 became the reference hardware.
Learn more about dual-booting Ubuntu and Android in our Nexus 4 thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/rom-ubuntu-touch-14-10-utopic-unico-t2324683
The advantage of a commercial Ubuntu Phone is just that you get some additional closed-source scopes which the hardware manufacturer provides.
However, those from the BQ phone get released to the Ubuntu Store at the moment.
Ubuntu development happens on launchpad.net.
