All, Ameer, author of Online Nandroid Backup, has put together a profile for the Kindle Fire HD 7inch for us. It successfully completed a nandroid backup. You can explore these on the device, and hopefully we'll be able to make use of a full Clockwork mod eventually. Useful to have a backup of the various system and data partitions if you've been doing some heavy customising.
Thanks Ameer and all the fantastic coders.

i'm on foliomod 1.4 now, but i'm planning to test/play with Cyanogenmod and honeycomb mod, but i've installed a lot of stuff so i was wondering if is available a backup tool capable of saving the whole folio working image so i can easily flash/reflash any time.
in this way would be a piece of cake reverting to 1.4 with all installed stuff
thanx
Try Titanium Backup for backuping apps. It's good.

Try (my) clockworkmod recovery. Not 100% sure if it is fully compatilble with Foliomod, but it can create a backup of all relevant partitions (nandroid backup) and restore the whole system.
thanx, ì'll have a try
for whole image use recovery mode
as for apps - I use Ultimate Backup Pro.
Hi
I got a cheap LG GT540 a wee while back and now I want to try and install a more recent version of Android (I currently have version 2.1 installed). I think I understand how to do this but the biggest concern I have is that my phone gets bricked and I have to reinstall. The tutorials I have encountered are mostly over a year old and I want to be certain that I can backup the whole image on my phone and recover it. I would be grateful if you could please confirm what the current best ROM Backup/recovery app to do this?
The best way if via Nandroid backups from your recovery.
(On CWM Recovery: Backup&Restore->Backup or Backup&Restore->Restore)
A Nandroid will give you a full image of everything, Titanium Backup will allow you to pick and choose what you do or don't restore. For both you need a rooted device.
Yeah, with Titanium Backup you can backup/restore the apps and settings you want. It´s very useful if you went to another ROM like MIUI or so.
I always use CWM recovery and Titanium Backup. Safe and sound
I just use a nandroid back up.
Titanium back up can extract bits from a nandroid backup as well.
in the play store u can even get apps backing up ur call lists and sms
Thanks everybody for replying.
I had problems trying to backup ROM, got impatient and finally managed to upgrade to CyanogenMod v6. It wasn't the strategy I had in mind but finally got there in the end!!
My Backup Pro is a good application!!
+1 for Titanium Backup
CWM is what I always use.
CWM is the best...
some app can't restored with titanium backup...
I usually just use the Nandroid backup inside CWM.
I am also using titanium backup (paid version), but I am told not to restore the system data of the previous ROM after updated to a new ROM, because the system data of the previous ROM will cause instability to the new ROM.
I am doing automated backups with Titanium (paid version), and I also make nandroid backup every now and then.
Can Anyone give me the .apk link of a backup/restory app? I looked for one in the play store..but they all are paid..I want to root..but dont have a credit card..please help

I'm also using the titanium backup, but you need the pro version to access some features. I'm satisfied with it.
So I must buy it? There is no free rooting and back up/restoring app? Is Titanium the best one?

Hi all, i've been trying to restore my sms-es from a nandroid backup. Apps like appextractor do not work as my backup was made using the new method introduced in CWM 6. The data files are store in a file called data.ext4. is there anyway to extract my data? Thanks!
Use the app called NANDROID browser to find the SMS files (something.db I think, google "where are texts stored in android"), extract them to the sd card, and paste them into the correct system location.

Tried that but it only shows boot and recovery

Well AFAIK, CWM nandroid backup is backing up every single file what's in the phone's flash chip. System, boot, recovery and data (which contains database for SMS's too) so if other files are there, so should be SMS database also. Can't tell how to extract it from there since its using this new blobs structure now, but maybe there's a way..

I was wondering why appextractor wasn't restoring sms backups on nandroid.
I tried the TiBk and it works but when showing conversation list when opening mms app, the time of when the last message was received is the time when it was restored. all the sms's time/date are good though when viewing the thread.
EDIT: Nevermind, it works perfectly, date/time is all good in conversation view, just when it was restoring that it was messed up.
I can't find a program that can "explore" nandroid's made with CWM 6+ based recoveries, due to the change in format. Nandroid Browser and Titanium Backup no longer work for this purpose. Anyone find one?

Try to open with ext2explore
Almost a month ago now so I'm not sure if you're still looking for a solution, but I've found that the beta version of AppExtractor v2.0 from AppsByAndy is able to read and extract apps and data from nandroid backups created with CWM6.
I went and bought a couple of his apps even though I didn't need them. Just for appreciation.
Oh and specifically I used the app to restore SMSes. Worked so well I'm going to use it for clean installs in the future.

As discussed in this thread, Titanium is unable to read from backups created with CWM6.

Have you tried hooking up to a PC via USB. Then explore the CWM backup that way ?

Even that is difficult. I've tried using unyaffs but CWM6 no longer produces a data.img to explore / extract.
I can't post links yet (10 post miminum before I can link). If you can be bothered, do a Google search for "Koushik Dutta New ClockworkMod Backup Format" and the first link should be a Google+ post giving an overview of the new backup format from ClockworkMod 6.
Edit: seems I can link.

Hi guys,
Can anyone recommend any good software that can take an image/dump of my zperia z tablet?
I have it updated and is in a great state and would love to be able to just make an image dump and later load ftf file of its current state for a back/restore.
Thanks

It depends, if you have root, you can try installing a custom recovery (CWM) and create a backup inside that tool, it's a complete backup of your system, so later if you need to go back because you screwed something, you can go the recovery and restore that backup and get the same state when you created the backup.
Also the other way is using Titanium Backup, it doesn't need a customer recovery, it creates a backup of all your apps with their data, etc.
I use both in that way i feel more safe and also if i need to restore only 1 or 2 apps only i can manually do it using Titanium Backup.
Hope this helps you.

Thanks for that.
dont have root so ill look into titanium and see how it goes.
As far as I know Titanium Backup needs root. And go for Pro version. You will be able to freeze/defrost apps which is awesome if you want to tweak your device.

Hi,
I'd like to swap out my kid's Fire HD 6 with another tablet. The only thing stopping me is I can't figure out how to transfer the progress on some of his games to the new device.
I side-loaded Helium, but the app will not start.
If I use the built-in Backup mechanism (to the cloud), does that backup the app data, and can that be restored to another device? I have an original Kindle Fire 7" that I could restore to "factory", and I'm wondering if I could restore the apps to there (then root, then titanium backup the apps/data).
Thanks for any help!
Mike
Hi. I was just wondering if anybody figured this out for future reference. Thanks
