Wifi problem on stock 4.1.2 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a problem with wifi. I have to reconnect wifi every morning. It looks like it's connected, but internet doesn't work until I turn off and turn on wifi. I need to do the same thing when i came home. Wifi connect but internet doesn't work. This is happening only on stock 4.1.2 roms. I tried to copy /etc/wifi folder from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2114095
[Q] Leap Wifi not working - authentication error (JB 4.1.2 XLS8) with no success.

Same with me. I also tried the /etc/wifi files from LSJ (even made a CWM-flashable ZIP with these), but that didn't help. Flashing different kernels, or forgetting/reconnecting the Wifi connection didn't help either.

I have the same problem also. It's very frustrating bug that you need constatly turn off and on wifi to get data connection back. Looks like there is good wifi signal but still not data connection before restart.

the same for me very frustring !!!! xwlsd (xwls8 > same)

Hi to all
I really don't know why, but last two mornings wifi worked without turning off and on. I have xwlse rom with philz xwlse kernel 4.64 on my phone.
First i installed dorimax kernel 7.48, but phone was very unstable. So i installed xwlse rom and philz kernel with mobile odin.

xwlsd and phil'z kernel 4.63 fixed > bug wifi but not all time it's works well for 2, 3 days and the day after: bug : turn off, turn on and it's ok

Hi. I never had this problem. I'm on 4.1.2 xwlsd. What i did was a clean install of my system. This instructions are for the international version GT-I9100.
1. Download Odin3 v1.87.
2. Get the official firmware form sammobile.com.
3. Open Odin3 and put your phone in download mode. Connect it to the PC and make sure the yellow square appears.
4. I used a pit file to reparation but don't recommend you try it. You can hard brick your phone.
5. Thick auto reboot, F. Reset time, phone EFS clear, phone bootloader update.
6. Press on PDA and browse the firmware you downloaded. Be sure to extract it first if it's a .zip file. You should see a .tar file.
Now you have a clean install of original firmware. Good luck.

So you are saying this problem is kernel related... Maybe is possible our problem is becaused of phil'z kernel? I have to try to keep the stock kernel, and monitoring the situation...
Inviato dal mio GT-I9100 con Tapatalk 2

i don't think this is the kernel is fault because phil'z kernel is stock kernel.

Same problem here with stock rom, no battery saver apps, and battery saving not active in the settings.
Upgraded to JB with Kies, factory reset afterwards.

Ehy guys, what kind of wifi module is installed on your phone? Murata or Samsung? Mine is Murata, and maybe or problem is manufacturer related... Do you think is it possible?

You have to go here: http://hwaddress.com/ and you have to write in the box the first 3 couples of number/letters of your S2 MAC address(xx:xx:xx). You can find it in wifi advanced settings. In few seconds you will know what is your wifi module manufacturer... Let me know you results...

Samsung Electro Mechanics for me

Murata Manufacturing for me .

R: Wifi problem on stock 4.1.2
Ok... We can exclude the wifi issue is manufacturer related... We have to think if there is something more we can try to fix this crazy problem.
Inviato dal mio GT-I9100 con Tapatalk 2

Samsung Electro Mechanics for me too. It's not a HW issue, because under stock ICS, or under AOSP/CM/AOKP JB the wifi works fine. The issue exists only with the recent stock JB roms, and those based on them (NeatROM, Omega, WanamLite, etc). It's also not caused by the kernel, because I've tried stock-based kernels and upstream-based kernels (Dorimanx, Siyah) and the issue persisted.
Has anyone tried flashing older baseband/modems? They shouldn't be related to the wifi in theory, but who knows...

R: Wifi problem on stock 4.1.2
At this point I'm thinking the problem is caused from one of the apps we installed on our phone, maybe for some kind of incompatibility with JellyBean... As I said some posts ago, next week I will try to flash Android 4.1.2(XWLSD), without root, and I will use the phone with none of my apps installed... I will give you some news about this proof in the next days...

I'm aware this is a noob question, but I think don't really grasp the complete flashing process:
The only thing I did was flash ROM I9100DXLP7 with Odin. I wasn't aware the kernel had to be updated manually.
Should I root first using CF-Root v5.4 LPQ, and then flash the Separate Kernel: Download (.TAR)? Both files are listed:

tnx for your help...
I have the same problem with my S2 and car stereo (Sony MEX-BT2950) had no luck after trying multiple stock / custom ROMS and even combinations of different kernels and modems. nothing worked. the only way this is going to work is to roll back to Gingerbread

I forgot to mention that this bug has happened on every ICS build i have tried right up to XXLPQ. I have just noticed there have been two releases since then, XWLP2 being the latest. i'm gonna try it and will report back with the results.

It does not its part of the firmware and root wont fix the problem either .
Although a custom kernel with a built in fix for the problem could be the answer .

good call. i'm downloading LP2 as we speak and if this does not fix the problem then I'll give one of Siyah's new beta kernels a shot as well.
EDIT: I have installed LP2 and Bluetooth streaming to the car stereo still results in a reboot after approx 15 minutes. Flashed Siyah Kernel 3.0b6 and that didn't help either. back to GB i guess.
Good news everyone!!!!!! I have found the fix! Just load following kernel (using Odin): SiyahKernel v3.0.1 (Posted on April 8, 2012). this kernel can be found at http://www.gokhanmoral.com/ . All credit go to the devolpper of the kernel.

Sorry but it isn't a solution. I have installed the last siyah kernel, 3.1rc6 and my phone keep on rebooting every about 15 minutes if it paired with my sony car audio system.

I have the same problem. I'm using Wlp8
DULP9 and its still broken. god this sucks. im tired of having to use the slow and battery hungry GNex cos it's bluetooth, of course, works fine with my car stereo
SOLVED!!!! well for me the fix was using a CM9 based ROM. F1 Galaxy Nexus to be exact. I was able to stream via bluetooth for well over 90 minutes without any problems whatsoever. I hope this will help someone out there.
From what I can tell from some thread I found somewhere else using google, it seems that any custom rom running 4.0.4 works fine, seems to be somehow related to Samsungs 4.0.3 rom and any roms based on it (not sure about 4.0.3 roms NOT based on the Samsung rom).

My 2c.
I am having the same issues. With the ROM XXLPW the problem stopped, but this ROM is not smooth and battery friendly as XWLPD that I was using before.
Today I flashed XWLPG and guess what? The reboots came back!
Where is the Bluetooth related files? Maybe using the XXLPW in the XWLPG or XWLPD we can have a trouble free ROM and smooth at the same time.

Marcello there are 3 solutions
1. given that XWLPM firmware is based on Android 4.0.4 this *might* solve the problem (i no longer have a GS2 to verify) Beware! I *think* this rom may have the dreaded "brick bug" that could permanently damage your phone. Do NOT install CWM recovery with this rom!!!!
2. install a ROM based on CynaogenMod 9 or AOKP. both are also based on Android 4.0.4
3. If you must stay on a Samsung stock ROM then downgrade to Gingerbread.
I'm pretty sure nothing else would work. I sure hope the Galaxy S3 stock roms dont have this bug as im really considering getting one this week

[Q] Cannot Connect Wifi Although The Signal is Good

I've installed Jelly Bean custom ROM for Samsung Galaxy S3; then when I tried to connect to the wifi, my phone shows that the signal is very strong. After a minute of connecting, it shows a message "Network disabled, poor connection". The wifi setting was saved, but still can't connect to the internet. Then I flash it back to its original ICS ROM, and it easily connect to the wifi.
There is 2 different JB Custom ROM that I tried, and both of them are having the same issue. What should I do?
I've search this problem and found some answers, but those answers are not working for me.. Please help..
Wait for Samsung to release JB instead of using Beta test roms .

Which modem did you switch too? Worth a try.
Its because of WIFI encryption, remove the password and try.
It's a bug in the leaked builds, they're BETA so you can't blame anyone but yourself.
it seems some people also had success after changing from wpa2 key to wpa key on there router.
I've the same problem.
I used to use Resurrection Remix JB 3.0.6.1 and everything worked fine. Then I flashed another CriskeloRom v13 (both are JB), and WIFI worked fine as well.
The problem was: when I flashed back to RR Rom, I couldn't connect any of the WIFI access points (actually, I tried 2) though the signal is very strong. I tried different settings and I also reset the APs and it didn't work at all. I also tried different modems and it didn't work either. Then I tried to re-flash both ROMs and found something may help:
1. flash RR: pass (before this the ROM was an unknown 4.0.3 version came together with the new phone)
2. flash CrisKelo: pass
3. flash RR: fail
4. flash RR with different modems: fail
5. flash RR ICS: fail
6. flash RR: fail
7. flash CrisKelo: pass
8. flash RR: fail
Anyone can give me some hint? What I need is the RR JB ROM with WIFI connections!
Sorry I can't paste external links because of the privilege, and both ROMs can be found at galaxys3.roms-db.com.
Best regards,
Same problem here. Running CheckROM v5.5. Have tried 2 different kernels (Perseus and Siyah). Hopefully the XXDLIH release will fix it....

[Q] WiFi Issue in Both Stock ICS Rom and CM9, Please help.

Hi all,
I have been having problem since I updated my Galaxy S2 Gt-i9100 (India) to official ICS. I've got the same issue... I tried Revolt ROM one week ago and did not encounter any problems until I had to restart the phone (for adaway), then suddenly my speaker was not working properly and I could not make phone calls anymore, the other one on the line could hear me just fine, but I could not hear talking or the ringing sounds or anything else...
I thought it was because of the ROM and tried AOPK next, but had the same issue after a reboot of the phone. Next ROM I tried was Vanilla Rootboox (also AOPK ROM) and I started to wonder if maybe this was a AOPK-related problem, so I installed a CM10 nightly build, which had the same problems...
I tried formatting system and sdcard (internal) while flashing new ROMS, but to no avail, the issue remains...
Any suggestions? It would be much appreciated...

I have news and i can confirm there is an app responsible to get us this issue.
I have restored factory settings and re-installed the lastest official firmware (toggling the root permits too because i thought the root permits could be the cause) and i could call with speakerphone fine (i tested for over 50 minutes of phoned); then i have installed Skype and some other app and i could talk with speakerphone fine through Skype and Phone...
When i have just installed remaining apps i have noticed our fastidious issue...
Anyway I have unfortunately known that it's a widespread issue..

[Q] WIFI doesn't work in XXEMD3 firmware

i tried wanam XXEMD3 and stock deoxded XXEMD3 with Googy-Max 1.4.6 kernel
i don't think its problem of kernel because i used it on XXEMD2 which is all fine.
today i flashed wanam XXEMD3 and when i running setup and connecting WIFI it keeps reports "Authentication error" or something , i think that's translation.
i thought it could be problem of ROM , and then tried stock deoxded XXEMD3, same , i figure maybe WIFI password i typed wrong ? although it's highly unlikely
and then i restored back to XXEMD2 with recovery , WI-FI works all fine ...
any idea ?
You should look for a wifi fix for your kernel or your ROM. This should to it. If there isn't any you should go to support of kernel or ROM. They should be able to fix this if no wifi Dix patch exists
