Hello!
Today I present to you an idea, sparked by the brilliant Gingerbread Rocks! ROM. To me, Gingerbread is the undefeated king of stability and performance. With the ST25, we're all hoping unrealistically. Everybody here is complaining about the lack of Android 4.1 on our device. Well, why not look at what we do have?
We've got several stable Gingerbread releases to base a ROM upon. So why not port the best there is?
Which is why I present to you CyanogenMod 7 for the Xperia U
The build is in progress. If anybody would like to join the development team (I'm really just starting out in Android Development), then PM me with the subject line "CyanogenMod Dev".
Many thanks,
-Toby

I'm aware it won't be easy, and FXP don't support porting CM7 to any new devices. I might try and contact them on the matter, because as you said, compiling a stable kernel won't be an easy task. Many thanks.

As do I. I plan to only release Alpha builds to real developers, so I save the "blahblah isn't working" comments and the cumbersome changelogs. Once we've got a daily driver/near complete rom, I'll be releasing it available to everybody.
Just a word of warning to everybody, if I don't find other developers who are interested in the continuation of this project, work may be a little slow as I'm in exam period at school. School always comes first, but whenever I get a spare moment I'll be working on this. Thank you all so much for your interest, it really is nice to have such strong support already.
CM7 would be great for this phone, I think the 388MB of available RAM do put Xperia U in the Gingerbread universe, so, CM7 is the best logical step.
I hope we will see this happen. :fingers-crossed:
Seems this will be greatest ROM ever for XU xD.

The way I see it, if CyanogenMod 7 can run smoothly on my old HTC Wildfire (about 180MB of RAM available, 528mhz CPU) then it will run amazingly fast with ~400MB of RAM and a dual core 1GHz phone. Not to mention the HTC Wildfire doesn't have hardware video acceleration, but the Xperia U has Mali-400 graphics.
Fingers crossed.

@fxp
i don't know of it is right posting here (colossu's warning and all)
but i really want to request you to support frequencies upto at least 1152mhz in the kernel. (ur kernels with the cm7 releases usually had upto 1036mhz only).
1228 is not stable for all devices. but 1152 is pretty much ok for most x10 phones.
there are (and will not be in immediate future) too many kernels supporting fxp52 and above, so as of now people cannot use any other kernel other than urs with cm9, which means if your kernel supports till 1036, then then there is no way for cm9 users to overclock beyond that.

No offense, but in my opinion this is a bit too little of a improvement to be released as a separate ROM. You would be better off making some kind of addon pack.
And credit the awesome devs who actually ported CM for our devices. I don't suppose you did that by yourself.

Build 242 refers to FXP 242 CM 10.1 for SP. Its got nothing to do with Sony's Stock .254 build. You can definitely install FXP242 or this ROM on stock .254 and any version of SP. Hope that helps

Build 242 refers to FXP 242 CM 10.1 for SP. Its got nothing to do with Sony's Stock .254 build. You can definitely install FXP242 or this ROM on stock .254 and any version of SP. Hope that helps

Thank you for providing me with a relevant answer, I am completely new to the SP and it's development, thus, the reason why I asked if I'm confused or not.
Thanks for the explanation.

I'm sorry, I'm still confused..Do we need an unlocked bootloader for this?

No offense, but in my opinion this is a bit too little of a improvement to be released as a separate ROM. You would be better off making some kind of addon pack.
And credit the awesome devs who actually ported CM for our devices. I don't suppose you did that by yourself.

Agreed it's suppused to be addons or mod pack.

Give the new one some positive feedback and/or tips. This will improve the positive spirit in here
@ OP
Tips:
- Could you please add the proper credits... For the aroma installer, for the (un)official builds etc.
- Could you please check your link of screenshots. I need permissions of somesort??

yeah i know it. but he's just don't know what his doing. we are getting his back to the right way.
he said this is based on FXP 242, have his tried it yet? FXP 242 have a broken kernel and it will not booting.
cm only booting on ubberlaggydarwin and eagleeyetom build which posted on cm10.1 discussion in general sections. and no credits for them?
and i just don't get the point here.
why we needed a rom with cm11 or aosp 4.4 from nexus devices look a like?
because we already have CM 11 from ubberlaggy and FXP then AOSP 4.4 from adfad?
i really appreciated if this rom have something new features
like working on locked boatloader devices.
@op sorry no offense, i really like your spirit, but i just hope you know what you're doing for your working.

Yes, I created it so I could more easily fork around my own builds. It was never originally intended for other people so I really hope to not see someone release over me using it

Overview
This is MIUIv5 for Moto X... noticed you folks did not have it
I will not provide OTA update but will provide an update to this every 3-4 weeks which will be freshly built to reflect progress in this devices configuration as your source builders make them available.
IE: I will not update only MIUI while keeping the same base, I will update device related things so there is an actual improvement with the versionup of MIUI; hence no OTA.
Warning
I've done this a lot and by now I should get this close to right on the first whack; I'm not sure what bugs may exist however so please leave feedback.
Kernel-level changes have been made, you can NOT use this on a locked bootloader device.
Working:
- Probably everything except
Not working
Bluetooth (100%, I disabled it due to errors in BT share for this build)

Thanks! Everything should be functional beside Bluetooth Share which I've intentionally disabled for the time being in my Alpha runs for right now; all of my firmware shares the same codebase across devices meaning my MIUI for this device has the same ADB as another even across vendors.
More or less I feel being able to fork one code-base to multiple devices has huge advantages because feedback is progress and reaching 'Stable' on the general codebase is the same as having a stable firmware for whatever I can build for, that being said I prefer to not release garbage so even as an Alpha everything beside Bluetooth should function, there will be no nasty surprises like data or wifi not working..

One question...I'm guessing this is based on CM11 right? Or is it based on Stock?
Nevermind, just saw that it's unified for all Moto X's lol

It's based on CM11 but I'd like to make a distinction: I don't use the same codebase and only update MIUI, I also rebuild from source with the newest configs if available alongside MIUI.
A few of my last builds in the 4.2 era had Xiaomi's software camera, with some cooperation from people I could probably bring it to this device so more or less I intend to reach 'Stable' on this device, something with full functionality but feedback is progress~
Edit: I prefer unified builds, it's more productive than a PatchROM on stock

Well...it didn't boot for me. Wiped everything and flashed the rom and when I rebooted it got stuck at the "M" bootlogo. I'll download it again to see if I was just a bad download
Edit: Yup, just downloaded it again, and the same happened.

Hmm, let me re-examine this. that's really unexpected
Edit: I'm an idiot......
In build.prop change:
persist.sys.root_access=1
to
persist.sys.root_access=0
Sorry.. forgot to change that value, updating the build to reflect this change
Edit 2: If that does not work please let me know ASAP for folks who have this and can test

CM12 ROM that has all the features of CM12, but with the stock look of Android L
I have been using @scrosler thread in the General section to learn how to build a ROM. All credit goes to him. With his guide, I was able to learn how to build a custom ROM from source. I want to thank him and the users on his thread for answering a lot of questions!
I like the stock look of Android L, but also like the features that come with CM12. So to that end I have mixed the two. A CM12 based ROM that looks like stock Android L including all of the features in CM12.

This rom has been my first real attempt at building a ROM, so I thought I would share it. I plan to update when I can and add more features when I can as well. I am still new to building roms and wanted to say a big thank you to scrosler and other users in his thread that helped me learn the basics. I also plan to release a guide similar to scrosler's on building CM12 from source as well. This ROM is designed to show the results of building from source.
I hope you enjoy the rom, if you have any further improvements, please let me know on the thread, I will see if I can implement them.

No worries, It has been a long time since I have really developed anything. I did do an android ROM for the HTC sensation and I did a lot of work originally for the awesome HTC HD2 and released a kitchen for wm6.5 so people could build their own ROMS! This is my first real attempt at building a ROM from source

No way, now I remember you. With the Kitchen for windows. It was when I first started looking into rooting devices. Back then I was total noob! I believe I had bought the HTC HD 2. I thougt it was a awesome device at the time and huge screen. Didn't really care for the windows but to each their own. I didn't have a clue one what this was all about back then. I act as if it was 50 years ago. Lol

Awesome, amazing how times fly's by. So glad I traded in that POS NOTE 4 and got a real device. It has giving me a chance to look back on life. Has made me smile today, and has even giving me the ability to admit to myself why certain things are in our past and how that's the way they were intended to be. Really man thanks a million for this. It has really made my day!
---------- Post added at 01:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:53 PM ----------
I also have to add in there. Hate admitting it but that is the way I am about my Skyrocket. I had some of my best times on here with it. I flashed that thing so many times softed bricked it a million times over. But it helped give me the knowledge for my endeavors now a days. I love that little thing. Been beat up and everything else but still works blazing fast today.
I have now created a guide on how to build CM12 from source here: [Guide][9/3/2015] Building CM12 for the Nexus 6 Shamu If you like CM12 and want to build your own ROM it is definitely worth a look! Also to those who have downloaded the rom, I would appreciate some feedback on how it is! This is my first real attempt at building a rom from source!
I have decided to close this thread. I am going to be only working on AOSP 5.1 source and using it as my main ROM.
