[Q]TF201 replaced motherboard serial number unknown. - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hello I need some help ,few month ago I got my tf201 from repair, they replaced tf's motherboard, and only few days ago I realized that my serial number is unknown, without this I can't do 'sweet' things with my tf201, so I have my old serial number and don't even know serial from new motherboard, now what should I do any suggestions?

Have you ever had it unlocked?
Do you have your reciept, from the repair invoice, if you do, contact asus with your invoice, ask them if they can get the information for you.
Motherboards are accountable and they will have this information, unfortunatly the service rep may not know this or have access to the information. You should be able to get to a tech through them, then tech will be able to help you. If your still having issues when theynsend a confirmation survey, put down that you did not get the required information due to support not having the appropriate access.
My next suggestion is a bit shady, make a digital copy of your repair invoice, cover any personal information and post the image, I say image because invoices can be written a certain way, giving partial information, and can lead to a partial solution.
Hope this helps, remember never give personal information out, especially on an untrusted survey(like the ones from facebook or games for donuts or points)

First of all i replaced my digitizer for myself I don't have warranty, second yesterday I talked with local Asus service(Israel) they told me that my old s/n at the new motherboard they somehow patched it, I asked them what should I do with unknown serial number ,the answer is nothing ,wait for official fix from Asus.. blah blah blah..
I found some thread at xda about serial fix but it didn't work for me.

2.I did factory reset, did connection to wifi waited 15 mins or more, to give some connection to Asus server, and nothing.

Unfortunately, I'm on the same boat as you. I sent in my TF201 for service, and they replaced my whole entire motherboard. Because of that, somehow my serial comes up at ABCDEF012345 (or something like that) when asked for device information in ADB. Device is in Jellybean and locked as well, and it's really a catch 22.
It either needs to be in ICS, or a known serial, or an unlocked bootloader, all of which I don't have
if you find a possible fix, let me know.

I have the same problem. Sent my TF201 in to "repair" weak wi-fi and gps and they replaced the mobo. Now my serial number is unknown and I can't update to the latest FW (currently on 4.0.3). I think I'm going to send it in again...

you can update manually download firmware from here http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=Eee+Pad+Transformer+Prime+TF201&p=28&s=1 chose one of those roms, but better dont update til you or asus will fix Serial Number.

Take advantage of the fact youre in ics now.
Look for the unknown serial fix, that uses an exploit to fix that. You have a good chance of self repairing your device.

I'm lookin at possible ways to read a s/n off of the motherboard there is a really interesting thread on the teardown for a wifi mod.....

Really interesting.

lol, I read that quite some time ago, and yes that's pretty cool.
As a modder, it really tempted me, but the fact that my Prime kept dying during the time, was proof that I needed my warranty intact. I sent my Prime in for service no less than 5 times in the first year I got it.
Most problematic device I have ever owned. EVER.

Yes I was thinking about opening tablet and search the s/n of replaced motherboard, I have skills. Already replaced my glass digitizer it took some time to replace it. But trouble is inverted x-axis ) cause of this I need s/n for unlock ,for root and for apply fix patch for the inverted x-axis ) need to w8 for ability to root JB.

Thanks for the hint, sounds interesting. If my warranty was gone I would definitely try that.
But nvm, I brought it in again this morning. If it doesn't update after this, or if wifi/gps is still bad, I'm finally allowed to return this POS to the store (only after 3 RMAs - in Switzerland).

RMA removed unlocked prime?

Ok I sent my prime to get my battery not working fixed and they fixed it with my prime being unlocked at no cost!
However I got it back today and it's been relocked and completely wiped!
There isn't anything on the internal sd card from me and cwm is gone!
I know its my prime because it has a small piece of the outer screen missing.
Oh well looks like I have to unlock it again!
BTW, it still has .21 installed and doesn't seem like they gave me anything from new update.
Probably normal procedure to do a full factory wipe on it.

just two questions:
1. could you still turn it on or was it dead? im asking because im wondering if they saw "this device is unlocked" when they turned it on.
2. are you in the us?

I'm sure it does, and I'm also sure that most of the ASUS repair centres do not bother checking whether the device is unlocked
Also, this mysterious "this device is unlocked" message only pops up when using a totally stock rom afaik.
Yeah if they did turn it on they would have saw a big V for the virtious rom i had installed.
I dont know if its still unlocked or not, I dont have cwm anymore and to be honest, I am not sure I want it unlocked again. I love this tablet and dont want to risk doing anything else.
Maybe when CM9 gets it right but then maybe the next Android Rom jelly bean will be out. What do you all think?

It's a known hardware issue that Verizon is well aware of. It's happened to me twice (on my 3rd Bolt) and they will replace it for free. All you have to do is call 611 and get a rep on the phone. Sucks...I know!

I'm 100% sure. I tried everything (Reflashed Roms, Tried various Keyboards, Unrooted, and still nothing...) the first time it happened to me. You'll notice if you go into landscape mode in the messaging app it'll work fine. The screen has deadspots on it. You have to call them and they will send you another one "next day" air and within that package, besides the "new" phone, they'll be return labels. Just unroot your device factory reset everything and ship it back.
I will call. use my phone for work everyday though and have to have it for work... Can I go to a store instead and get one you think?
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt using XDA
You can try, but not sure that they'll come thru for ya. Best bet would be to hang in there until you have a day or two off then call so it doesn't impact your employment. And in the meantime use the phone in landscape mode for what you need it for.
Called customer service and this issue was not in there database. landscape mode isn't much better at all. If I go to store I have to unroot

Trust me it is...That rep was garbage. I thoroughly explained my situation both times and they new about it right off the bat. I'd call back...it's a manufacturer defect and they have to replace it for free.

I'm positive...all they'll say is to factory rest blah, blah, blah...they shouldn't tho...the only way they'll know is if you tell them...a knowledgeable rep will know exactly the issue. It's a known issue period. Look on the Verizon website. It's on their site talking about it...Many other users have had the same exact issue on here and other forums...tell them whatever is the latest OTA...

Yes it is. You can tell them you have rebooted your phone multiple times and factory reset as well. Tell them you have already gone through all the trouble shooting and it still is malfunctioning. It is a known issue with the bolt.

Green camera issue

Last two days ago, my prime fell off from our bed, my daughter somehow accidentally kicked it. Never thought about checking the camera right away, busy checkin f theres a dent made, fortunately not. However, yesterday, just realized that the camera was busted. Tried to press the back of the prime somehow fixes temporarily, but still it's annoying.... though i am not so fond of using this tablet as a camera, but seems it's incomplete. Should i return this for service or just leave it like this with bused camera. I know it's my call but i wanna hear some of your opinions. Thanks guys....

Well, as far as I know, it's a software issue were most of Prime users encounter during its lifetime. This happen to me too. I don't know why...

I doubt the reason the camera quit working is due to the fall, I baby my Prime and it has never taken a lick, yet my camera quit working about a week ago, I get the green scrambled screen like many, many others have gotten with theirs. Either they have poor connections to the board internally, or the software drivers are bad. Only my front works, and I live overseas so getting service is going to be a huge pain.

It's most definitely hardware. Squeezing the TFP by the camera brings back the camera for a second which makes it 100% hardware. It's likely a loose connection or poor solder joint.
My rear camera went green and I have never dropped it.
Unfortunately I have unlocked my Prime and therefore "technically" I am out of warranty. I may have to try to RMA it and see if they will fix hardware even if I unlocked it. I also have an LCD Mura and all the weak WIfi and BT issues. I may just wait until any other hardware issues popup and try to get them fixed all at the same time.
yep, this is most definitely hardware related. same thing happened to me and i had to RMA it. they didn't try to pin it on me for CID though, so you should be all set. I had my prime repaired and back in 12 days from sending it.
there are also a number of threads about this already. please try searching before making a new thread.

Good luck!
Mine is currently being RMA'd for exactly the same reason. It had a minor bump and the camera showed a broken image in green. Mine would also temprorarily get fixed by squeezing but after a bit that stopped working. Moral... Treat it like glass.
I am more than pissed. I just checked my camera. And now its GREEN! I take very good care of my equipment. My GF knocked it off of the couch last night while in the dock. maybe 15" fall onto my leg / carpet. I am beyond pissed. I've got the green lines of death on my 8mp camera too. It just started happening. I can do the "squeeze" fix but as soon as I stop squeezing it goes back green and I never really get the camera to look right while squeezing. I also tried the soft reset button without help. I really don't want to RMA AGAIN. I just got my Prime back from Asus. I do have to say my RMA experiance was not bad though.
Has anyone found out the cause of this? To fix it ourselves so as to not pay ASUS to do it? I saw somewhere that it might be an overheat problem or something like it....

pretty sure its a physical damage problem, which seems more and more likely is caused by being dropped. might just be a loose connection, but unless someone with this issue opens up their prime to see if they can simply reconnect it, we won't know :\

TF201 Camera Broken?

Hello everyone. I have been in love with my TF201 sine purchasing it 5 months ago. I have encountered no problems with the tablet at all until, yesterday my friend wanted to take a picture, upon opening the camera app, all he saw was this. Now, I know somebody here will know if this is fixable or not. I am assuming that it isn't fixable and I'm just going to have to deal with a broken rear facing camera.
I should also mention that there is no damage to my TF201 and it has certainly never been dropped. So, is this just poor build quality that would cause this?

I just RMA'd mine to fix this issue...which was caused by an RMA to fix LCD mura. If you specify that you do not want them to reset the software, you shouldn't have to worry it being relocked.
That is just my experience though. I made sure to let them know not to reset the software...by stating it large bold letters in red ink on the RMA checklist

You might give this a try (found it on a google search) before you call and RMA it.
Open your camera program.
See bad green screen or something unrecognizable.
Open Options.
Change quality to 3 Mps.
Change sides to 16/9.
Turn focus to "far away" (not auto).
Press by your finger to back camera with some power for 5-7 seconds.
Move finger away.
If it's working - have a fun!
If it's not - press again.
Open Options.
Change quality and sides back for your pleasure.
When you make photos you can turn on "Auto focus", but when you turn off camera program you should change in options focus to "far away" (not auto).

Thanks for this post. Gave it a few tries but it didn't seem to do anything but crash the tablet and cause it to restart.
Guess I'll have to try and RMA it. I hope I know enough Japanese to be able to do that d:

I'm unlocked as well, that's why I specified not to touch the OS. Didn't have to pay for the first go round and haven't heard anything from them this go round.

So, this must be a Normal issue with the TF201?
Sent from my TF201 using xda app-developers app
Same thing happened to mine.
I think it's just a software issue though. If you change to the front camera and back again it's just the previous image displayed chopped up. Normally I would just fix permissions or re-flash the ROM, but I don't really want to void the warranty by unlocking the bootloader.
I don't think its a software issue...there's a thread that tells of a temp fix....by squeezing the area by the camera.
Also, I have flashed pretty much every rom, including stock and it is still the same result, even with permissions fixed.
Edit: Here's a link

Mine is being sent back now, no charge.

Hi5!! just happened to me too -__-;
annoyingly enough this happen to me before too -_-;
send it for an RMA for the same problem people.... sigh.........
The big question is... Will you be able to RMA it even after flashing a bunch of different ROMS. Perhaps flash stock again and send it back?
I think the REAL question is:
Will Asus let us BUY the damn camera module?
I've had a bad camera for months now because I don't want to go without my tablet for weeks for something that I know will take 15 minutes. I've seen more than enough tear downs to know it's nothing I couldn't handle, I just want to PAY them for the part.
Every few weeks I search for it as a part to buy, with no luck

[Q] Is my Phone Dead?? According to the repair shop it is!!

I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for Verizon that I ran Casual on unlocked the bootloader, rooted it and put a custom Rom on. Then it all when to heck!! Loaded CleanRom on it but didn't like the Storage and SD card thing so I Flashed the changeup but apparantley I missed something in there becuse it wasn't right it would put apps on the sd card memory but pictures on the internal memory. Said I was out of space for updates and so on. Couldnt get it fixed and flashed Mean Bean to it. It worked for 3 days and began boot looping and I tried factory restore and It says something about efs files E:failed to mount /efs (Invalid Argument). Sent it to repair shop in Irving Tx. they have had it 2 weeks and they say if they can't fix it by Monday, there going to ship it back to me, still broken. Can this be fixed or do I have a $600.00 paperweight

Thank you very much for the link, looks pretty complicated, I have only rooted 3 phones. 2 Motorola Droids 1 was an X2 and an LG Spectrum. This is very complicated stuff. The shop that had my phone is sending it back to me tomorrow, no charge they say the only way it can be fixed is under warranty, which I have voided by unlocking the bootloader and rooting it.

If anyone knows someone in the DFW area or anywhere who can fix this, send me a link and I will give them a try. I just want my phone working again. It's pretty stupid to be able to keep your unlimited data with Verizon you have to buy a phone at full price. I have a lot invested here!!! Thanks everybody!!

This is really not a very complicated procedure. Everything you would have to do you can look up and find out how to do it via Google. Its better than having to pay $60 to have it JTAGed. I'm not even sure if JTAGing it would be the way to go seeing as how it giant hard bricked and the steps to fix it are fairly explained in that thread. If you cant do what the thread explains find a techie family member or friend, show them the thread and ask them to do it.

I have talked to some cellphone repair people and they all have said that you can't JTAG a Note 2 yet. I appreciate your help, but I took it to Dallas today to the shop, I don't want to take anymore chances.

The people you have been talking to apparently don't know jack diddly ****, look up MobileTechVideos. He is the communities go to guy and has been JTAGing Note 2s for quite a while. Don't believe everything you hear from these repair shops, most of them won't even know what the hell a JTAG is let alone if its available, which it is.
I have a very bad feeling about this shop, I'm pretty sure they're going to screw you pretty hard when you could've sent it off for $60 and had it JTAGed.

He doesn't like to listen to people on the forums who have gone through this **** before, he only listens to repair shops that don't even know what JTAGing is.

Romotx - You jumped into the pool when you started flashing, but then you didn't want to learn how to swim. Did you even try typing the commands in the linked thread? That's how it works you type commands carefully and when you get an error you look that error up and try it again. Got a new error, look that one up, and so on. The more you do, the more help you get here. But it sounds like you were not very careful to start with to bork your phone that bad.
It's too late for you, but for others, when something goes wrong take a step back and take a breath. Do some reading, make sure you understand where you went wrong, and what and why you are doing next to your phone. What ever you did should have been an easy fix at some earlier point in time.
But good luck in getting your phone repaired.

Yes and that link that was posted earlier tells you exactly how to fix it. You just don't want to use it. If you can't get into CWM or TWRP try it on what shows up when you boot into recovery, for Christ's sake it's even telling you to use ADB commands which is exactly what that thread tells you to do. If you had pages attention you would know that.
Instead of taking it to a "shop" that obviously doesn't know its ass from a hole in the ground you should listen to the people in the community who have been through this before.

We did help you! You now know that you don't take your phone to a "repair shop"! Lol.
But seriously, listen to dude above, or wait for droidstyle or kintwofan to pop in. They'll answer the same way they do every other time this happens. Search for "bricked note 2 xda" and add "kintwofan" or "droidstyle" to the mix (WILDCARD) and see how many hits you get. Doesn't matter if the symptoms aren't exact - TRY IT.
What bad can happen? You gonna brick your phone? Hell, it may even start working again!?

Its very odd that it was advertised recently then, hmmm I have to see what I can find out.
As for the option that someone else linked earlier, have you tried it yet? It seems like the perfect solution to your problem. Granted you can't get into recovery the screen it shows you tells you to use ADB which is exactly what the fix uses.
As for beating you over the head, what the hell do you expect? You come asking for advice and then don't take ANY of it and act like we are all fools.

I never acted like anybody was a fool. I have been lurking and reading for years on here. I respect everyone's advice here! I have a $600.00 phone that I screwed up,yes thats what you have to do with Verizon to keep your unlimited data plan that they grandfathered you into and now when you want to upgrade it's pay full price for the phone or you get 2Gb. plan, and I don't feel confident enough to fix it like you guys suggest. I have never used ADB, I have never had a brand of phone where you could unlock the bootloader, I'm not a command and scripts and whatever voodoo you guys do to these phones.kind of guy. I can build computers and I have rooted and put roms on 2 other phones. I can't afford to buy another phone and in this backwoods hick town when you talk to anybody about rooting a phone they have no idea what the heck your even talking about.
