Email from Moto for JB soak test - Motorola Droid RAZR

I just received an email from Motorola asking me whether I'd like be to considered for a JB soak test for the RAZR & RAZR Maxx XT912. I declined, since I'm running the 4.1.2 build which was released in error on Dec. 25. Thought that this was worthy of an FYI to all if you.

You didn't have to decline, the release was one of the listed versions for the soak, they recognize it is out there.

Well... The soak test email has brought me back to xda forums. The previous leak has been running so well I almost forgot my xda login information

Welcome back! I'll second your comment about the 4.1.2 leak: it has worked perfectly for me as well. It'll be interesting to see what improvements the final build has to offer.

I would but I care more about having internet than testing the soak.....
I'm almost 60GB in 12 days and frequently do well over 100GB and have done 137GB that I noticed....

With ashell and asqlitemanager you will always be able to set the entitlement check to 0

I got it as well. I was on stock but with the leaked JB OTA and rooted with OTA Rootkeeper installed. I temporarily disabled root and attempted to apply the update and it wouldn't go. I had forgotten that I had also installed init.d on my phone so that probably hosed up a few other things. Also, would removing Madden 12 and Let's Golf 2 screw things up even though they are NOT system apps and are allowed to be uninstalled?
I then went and used Matt's JB unbrick and put my phone back to "stock" (which is really the leaked JB OTA) without root or anything. Now, I don't get notifications of the update. I've clicked the link in the email to let them know that my update failed and need them to resend the update file, giving them my Motorola forum user id and my phone's MEIN. Haven't heard back for a few hours, so hopefully I'll get another OTA update pushed to my phone. I can't stand sitting around without root and my Nexus 7 is sitting looking sad because it no longer has access to tether to my RAZR MAXX.

New Soak Test?

Just got an email to take part in the latest soak test. Looks like that 2.3.4 build they've been sitting on is finally on it's way! Maybe even a BL unlock? (wishful thinking)

Do you think? Doesn't seem like much of an upgrade. What's different?
Should I go with that or stick with Eclipse?
I got the email too. Unexpected but welcome nonetheless.
I see that video chat is supported with 2.3.4. Is there any real use for that with the x2 anyways? I thought that required a forward facing camera to use Google Talk's video chat.
I remember p3droid questioning why Verizon even released 2.3.3 when they had a "much better" 2.3.4 update. So there's that.
Also, it will probably have the new Blur that's on the D3 and Bionic.

I also got the soak test email and did the survey for acceptance.
I am returning my phone to stock right after I post this to make sure I am able to update.
I am actually in the process of trading this thing for an iphone 4. I have an upgrade waiting and I can give the iphone to my son. Not sure now that im ready to part with the X2. But I am extremely tired of the absolute necessity to root and tweak this thing to get normal usage out of it.
Well I also got the email so I guess back to stock.... sbf pro here.

Nope I'm not worried, because I'll just SBF back to 2.3.3

Yeah ROMs would have to updated to whatever Android version we're receiving. I'm thinking it's going to be 2.3.4 but my hopes are high for 2.3.5 =]

lmao 2.3.5 don't get to over your self
I'm too amazed by Eclipse v0.7... I got the email as well, but I really don't want to sbf back to stock in order to participate so I didn't even bother with the survey. But who knows? Perhaps this will be that awesome 3D Blur inherent on the D3/Bionic? I was actually surprised when, upon receiving my first update to gingerbread, the update wasn't more akin to the firmware on the Droid 3.
Hopefully this fixes a lot and adds in some good stuff. Like someone said before P3 said this one is better then 2.3.3 so that should give us hope.
For those wondering when this COULD be out, if going by last update has anything to do with it then it should be in October. Soak test in the middle then release at end or if its more like last one then release during the test...

And im getting sneaky suspicion it is 2.3.4.
Hopefully give us the right.kernel for everything.
This is the ONLY reason I am gonna sbf tomorrow and wait for this in case I get it by chance. Last year people who didn't sign up for soak got it and WERE ALLOWED TO TALK if weren't in soak group

I'm also curious, what are people complaining about? I've had my screen on for the last 4 hours customizing, playing with and generally enjoying ICS. I've yet to experience any issues whatsoever...? Genuinely wondering what problems people are having? Why would they put the ICS release candidate on their staging/soak server if it was riddled with bugs?
Hummmm
Have you people really used ICS I think its horrible even if they do get it working on these phones it still sucks! Just make the battery last a month on one charge and connect to any wi-fi without having to log in, and make apps shut off when you exit out of them. That's all we want out of our phones right??? We can only dream about having phones that work right there will always be someone with an issue with their phone as long as we are getting phones that do all these great things!! Sorry my little rant i'm just done hearing everyone saying when is ICS coming to our phones!! Everyone knows when they do release it thousands will install and instantly start having issues so then another update and another it will never end! How many phones that are out work perfectly? I probably wont even update to ICS when it comes I like the way my phone works now and know where everything is! If you want ICS just install a different launcher done!!
Back in February, everyone was screaming for ICS on their Asus Transformer. Now, the majority of people wished they never got it because it has caused nothing but grief for many (not all) owners. (lockups, random reboots, and general instability).

It's live as of 6:30am in good 'ole SC.
Use mattlgroff's Utility to "Keep root through OTA" although at least one person has reported not needing to use that...supposedly the tool worked just fine to root .181, but that gamble is up to you. ;-)
tCizler & maestro53 - I am new to the RAZR, just got mine yesterday, actually...but you haven't mentioned anything about recoveries...if you're running safestrap, etc. I imagine you will have to restore to stock before the update will work.

Hmm. Again, take this with a grain of salt, as I am new to the phone, and this is most likely an extreme option...
You could backup your data/apps using the program of your choice (I've found ROM Toolbox to be the best) and then use DRU 1.51 to "sbf" restore to .173.
That's what I did, as I got the phone from a friend who had ICS/safestrap and all sorts of stuff done to it and something in there made my 4G not work so I wanted to start fresh.
That being said, I am only just now about to attempt the update, so I'm putting my foot in a position such that it might be quickly inserted into my mouth, if necessary.
Just got mine. Warner Robins GA.
Also if you have after market recovery it won't install.
I was rooted .173 and took the update. I didn't unroot. Installed correctly and restored root w root keeper. Very nice.
Went through without a hitch here in monroe Michigan stock rooted and also kept root without backing up still looking for the changes but otherwise working great.

I might be insane from staying up all night, but I coulda swore I saw (either on here or on droidrzr) a "rebloating" script that essentially went through and made sure any such changes would be undone.
And cmon, it's not that bad. The restart will be good for ya, get rid of some of those apps you think you need but really don't. ;-)
Anyway...I went ahead and applied the update on stock/unrooted .173, then used DRU 1.51's GB Root option and it completed successfully, Superuser is on my phone and all seems dandy.
So if you're running stock/unrooted .173 it's CONFIRMED that you do NOT need to root and then use Voodoo's OTA Rootkeeper app to make sure you'll have root in .181. However, if you're already rooted, I'm not sure what happens.
If I understand correctly how Voodoo works, you may need to use Voodoo in order for the update to complete successfully. tCizler, have you tried that?
Now I just gotta figure out what I'm gonna do from here haha...With this update, will I be unable to install most ROMs or should this have no effect on that?
EDIT:
tCizler...I realize I'm firing shots in the dark here, but you may wish to check out this thread. My apologies if it doesn't apply.

ICS Starting to Roll Out

One more for the unconfirmed rumor mill. Posts are starting to show up on the Moto Customer Care site by users who are starting to receive the OTA from VZW:
https://forums.motorola.com/posts/358e9e30e9
I think this is absolutely true because I've been sitting on a virgin Maxx replacement. Last night I got tired of waiting for the OTA and ended up taking two hours to reinstall all of my apps, adjust all of my phone settings exactly like I like them, pair my BT devices, etc from scratch. Since I'll wipe my device and start over after the OTA -- just my preference to have a completely clean system to build on -- it absolutely figures the roll out will start as soon as I was done with it.
Sorry to all -- if I knew Moto and VZW was waiting on me to set up my phone before pushing the OTA, I would have done it last week
We Soak testers got this email yesterday.....
Hello again, everyone.
Later tonight we'll end our soak test. A phased roll out of the software will begin soon.
We are deeply grateful for the feedback and information provided. This was by far the largest soak we've ever attempted. We didn't really know what it would be like to have so many participants. We learned a lot and have already figured out some better ways to do things in the future. We appreciate you hanging in there as as we ploughed through all the information you provided.
To those of you who did not get the update or were unable to access the private community --your experience has also helped us find and correct issues. We'll be better next time based on your feedback. Please remember that the processes, information and communications shared during this soak test are confidential and not to be shared outside of this private community.
However, we do hope you will return to the public RAZR/RAZR Maxx community -- here and on other sites -- and help your fellow owners make the transition to Ice Cream Sandwich.
We will leave the private community up for a short time, but once you log out it will no longer be available to you. Soon we will close the threads to comments. We will continue to work with some of you and reach out if we need additional information.
Thank you so, so much. Hope to see you again in soaks. We rely on your energy, intelligence and enthusiasm.

Am wondering if I got lucky somehow. Got MAXX in mail from Verizon last friday, 6/22. When looking at another tread about how to update to ICS I noticed the file name for the ICS update matches what I see on my MAXX for system version. 6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US with kernel number 2.6.35.7. Did I get a phone that had ICS already loaded? Have not gotten any messages about updating it OTA.
If I go by the file name and the system version on the phone it would seem it is ICS already. Thoughts?

It seems like 211 is the official, but there was an article linked in another thread that Moto is updating it for the battery life issue that was reported by many soak testers.
So I don't know if they are releasing 211 and then will follow it with a quick update, or if they are going to update 211 and then do the mass ota release.

It seems like 211 is the official, but there was an article linked in another thread that Moto is updating it for the battery life issue that was reported by many soak testers.
So I don't know if they are releasing 211 and then will follow it with a quick update, or if they are going to update 211 and then do the mass ota release.

We got another email after the soak test sending us to another survey. The survey was centered around battery life and not being able to switch between 4g and 3g. My guess is that they are gonna buff out the battery issue and add a CDMA only option.

I wish they would also allow us to link the notification volume and ringer volume. Are you still filling out your survey?
No I finished it. I know what you are saying though.
I'm guessing another 2-3 weeks b4 i see ICS. This happened with the GB update when I had my old droid x. My wife will prob get the update sometime today she always gets the update b4 me....lol

Cruel ICS torture!

So I'm at work and the Droid RAZR on my demo phone bar pops up the notification for the ICS update.
I run the update and play for a few then get giddy thinking my Maxx should be good to go...
Run the update check and NOTHING. :-(
So now my stinking demo gets ICS but I can't. :-x
Lol that's messed up.
But you can get it
There's a copy of my guide in the RAZR development forums on how to manually update the OTA.
Lol demo phone be trollin
So I been getting the update notice on my Razr Maxx (see screenshot) Is this ICS? I am not a developer, I just cruise on the forum and mess with my phone. My maxx is rooted stock .173 No Bloat I haven't taken the update cause I am the no bloat setup might screw things up.

.181 is the newest GB version. So in short, no, it's not ICS.

Unroot, install update then you'll be ready ICS. If you want to just fast forward to ICS today you can use my guide posted in the development forums, posted by user streetmedic.
That is the update, remember moto names their updates as the old version of the OS so 181 is actually the 211 upgrade to ICS, if im somehow wrong then I really need clarification on the moto update stuff
