I've been Googling around to find out about this but I always find myself coming back here to ask the experts for everything.
I've read about the MHL adapters to plug the HOX+ into HDMI ports, but I would like to use old-school RCA a/v jacks instead. I know about the negatives in doing this, but the RCA plugs are more versatile (not every hotel has HDTV's, for example, and the display in my car only has RCA inputs).
In many of the posts I've read there was nothing but speculation and "this should work..." types of posts, but I was hoping someone here might have firsthand or secondhand knowledge of what pieces to buy (rather than just guesses, which I can do myself).
Thanks in advance

It looks like it would work, and I have seen others on Google that also seem like they would work, but I was hoping someone here might have more definitive info. Plus this one in particular has a minimum order of 200 and that's 199 more than what I need lol
I thought it only outputs MHL, so you'd need an MHL to HDMI cable and an active converter like this

As above. HDMI being digital and RCA being analog, you're going to need a DAC. The only issue you might have is playing back protected content, though some digital to analog converters will circumvent this. It's a bit of a faff just to watch stuff on a hotel tv, not to mention costly.
Well I would use it for more than just hotel TVs. I would use it when at other people's houses to show my photos & videos. For example if I am at family function I have video of a new baby in the family or video of an elderly relative blowing out candles on the birthday cake and everyone wants to see these things, it would be MUCH easier to plug in a few cables and adapters than it would be to pass the phone around 30 times and have to start things all over again when the older people handle it by the touch-screen and mess things up.

Does anyone know if a TV out cacle is available or even possible on the micro usb connection of the Slide? I am about to go on vacation and need to keep the kids entertained without dragging a DVD player along with us. I am curious if HTC gas the same setup as far as pin count on this one as thet did on their micro plug. Any input on the subject is apreciated.
here's the best I can find. I didn't spend a huge amount of time so I may have missed one that may work better but here is a micro usb to mini usb adapter and then I know there are TONS of mini usb tv out cables out there so this setup may work for you. I did not see any micro usb tv out cables anywhere which I found odd. anyway, here's the link to the adapter I found, you may find something even cheaper:
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...7&cs=04&c=us&l=en&dgc=SS&cid=27722&lid=628335
Thanks for the info. The only thing I worry about is HTC mini usb jacks have a lot more pins than standard mini usb jacks. It was a great idea in its day, though I am sure there are better ones now. Any adapter would have to be the HTC. Style output, and I don't even know if there is an "HTC" micro usb output.
As far as I understand, the extra pins on the HTC mini-usb plug were:
1x Ground
2x R/L sound Out
1x Mic In
These just carried an analog signal.
Since HTC is now defaulting a 3.5mm jack on almost all phones, these type mini-usb plugs are becoming obsolete.
The regular Data +/- and +/-5v pins never changed, which is what carried the digital signal for video/sound out.

So there is hope with the adapter? Hopefully the phone is capable.

Try looking for the cable designed for the Droid Incredible, I believe I saw that for one of my customers at T-Mobile by looking on Google.
yeah the droid incredible cable will work
Thanks, I will have to order one. Hope I get it in time. Much apreciated.
The question that hasn't been answered yet is "is the slide capable of tv-out?"
Good question. I haven't seen this feature advertised at all for this phone, including on T-Mobile internal documentation, so I very much doubt that it is capable of TV out. That would be awesome to find out it is, though!
I'm sure with a bit of tinkering, it would, but with the resolution and low GPU speeds, would it be worth it?

ive read that the slide has a basic usb connector 4 or 5 pin
where as other phones .. incredible have 7 or 8 pin connectors.

Kinda where I was headed with all this.
So, any luck in getting video out? Thanks
This phone don't have tv out.
Is there a way to use the hdmi out cable and hook it up to 2 car tv's (via splitter or something) while still having the video out put on the tablet itself? Pretty much want the exact same thing showing on all 3 displays. Though I'll be honest I know NOTHING about hdmi, the youtube vids I saw shows that the device will have video controls on it and only output the vid to only the tv.
If it matters the tablet I think I will be putting in there is the asus eee pad, but still 2-3 months to go so that might change before then.
Any one has even an idea?
XDA is not really the forum for it, but here's my thoughts on this (I'm also interested in something like this):
You can use any tablet with HDMI out and support for mirroring (I think most of them support it), and use a HDMI splitter like the StarTech 2 port HDMI splitter/amp to get the same picture on two other monitors. Should work great...
see and or search MP3 car on Google....
The site and forum and store offer "car PC" solutions to rediculously outdated crap every manufacturer is spewing as new fancy and high-tech.
you will be able to sync/link/whatever you like via some of their stuff... but possibly waaay more complicated than you are willing to tackle...
The suuuper fancy stuff in even the most expensive and high end cars these days is a joke by comparison to our phones... don't. Think they are even trying to offer anything smart or cool....I'm surprised Ford isn't selling a FAX machine as a "high tech" option

There is a lot of conflicting information on google and other forums. I have already looked into it but have questions. Some say a straight cable adapter should work. Others mention the need for an adapter box. Some say that some adapter boxes only work with certain phones/devices.
Basically, I have already googled it so despite your insinuation, I have done some homework. I probably should have mentioned that in the OP...sorry.
Has anyone actually done this or something similar with their X2? Thanks.
curious about this myself, I had just bought a projector less than a year ago, and got talked into a cheaper model without HDMI inputs, which I didn't think anything of at the time...
Not that simple
HDMI and VGA use wildly different protocols to send a signal. VGA is analog, HDMI is digital. You can't just use an adapter to use one with the other. You would need a device that can decode, process, and convert the signal, which is going cost more. As in, starting at $30 bucks for a cheap chinese converter box.
So it is possible through the converter box? Anybody have any experience with any of them?
Hi Prime - did you ever get resolution? I've an older projector too.
this works:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10114&cs_id=1011410&p_id=8126&seq=1&format=2
i normally use it for a different purpose, but i tried it with my X2 and it did work. pretty cheap for what it does too.
Hey guys.
Long time G1/G2 user here...just cashed in on the Valentines Deal from T-Mobile and picked up the Amaze.
The associate @ the store here in Wilmington informed me that the Amaze has video out via micro HDMI...and same battery charger as the G2...?
My G2 charger seemed to work in the car, but after opening the one that came with the phone when i got home, I saw it looked a little different.
This was after I was all excited to hook up the phone to my Vizio LCD tv via a micro hdmi cable from newegg, but it didn't seem to want to fit properly. Is there a special cable I need or adapter require to hook up to a TV?
Thanks
You need a mhl adaptor
Sent by accident from my Amaze using Tapatalk
As stated, you need an mhl adapter for hdmi output.
As for the charger, it's a proprietary port on the phone, but it will also work with a traditional microusb cable.

Anyone have any first-hand experience using a proper MHL adapter for the Amaze? I'm very interested in buying one but have seen mixed reviews from this one: http://www.amazon.com/iKross-Jetstre.../dp/B005JZX5LC
I've seen other results on Google but no one really comments on having tested it with their Amaze. I've read reports of people using the HTC MHL adapter on their Evo 3D, saying the video looked pixelated. Has anyone found or used an adapter that worked well?
you can be the guinnea pig.
Hehehe, I'm hoping other guinea pigs who have tested will share!
Thank you guys for responding....appreciate it
I have used an MHL adapter
The one I have is from Tmobile. It works, but I just don't see the practicality of it. I used to have the G2X that required that micro HDMI to HDMI. That just required one cable. This time with the MHL adapter you need to not only have to have the MHL adapter, but you also need a normal HDMI cable and a MicroUSB plug to power the device. Without either you wont get any picture. It works like normal and honestly I don't see any difference between the picture of the Amaze with their MHL adapter and the picture of the G2X with their microHDMI. It works great, but the only set back now is the amount of cables needed for this feature now.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the adapter. Could you comment on the picture quality? Does a 1080p movie look 1080p on the TV?
Based on threads here and elsewhere, I found the HTC AC-M500 12-pin adapter (the correct one according to HTC), featuring their proprietary ExtMicro USB plug. I'd tried a generic 5-pin MHL-HDMI adapter from Overstock.com, and sometimes it would work, sometimes not. (I later determined that this was probably the fault of the Dell 24" monitor I have at work.)
There are 7 extra pins in the connector that I frankly don't know if they do anything; in prior threads someone identified them as supporting composite video (yes you read that correctly), stereo audio and a MIC. But the plug fits great, and on a Samsung 27" LED HDTV, the video looks as crisp as you'd expect. Is it worth $30+? Depends upon how often you want to use it. I hope to do presentations and playback with it.
If you want some detailed pics, look to my images posted to WikiCommons.

I'm not sure if it's the player of the Amaze that makes it less appealing or if I just encoded it wrong or if it's the limitations of the picture transfer itself, but it doesn't look "perfect" so to speak. Sometimes there's even a little audio delay that for some reason is more visible on the TV than it is on the phone. It still looks good and I imagine that if the right settings for video encoding come out it will look great, but don't expect BluRay quality from the phone.
I found that my Amaze has trouble playing 1080p without a stutter ... but it does that on the device as well as the external display. I guess those of us who want to do this regularly need to upgrade to the Edge/Endeavor this summer.
The MHL cable I had for my Sensation 4G works for the Amaze, I tried it out last night it worked with no problem.
Important question, when using a typical 5 pin MHL adapter, does the phone transmit audio over HDMI as well?
Along with that, if not, does the 12 pin adapter transmit audio? Thanks guys.

You mean the HTC One....
Does anyone know if the MHL adapter supports keyboard/mouse/monitor? If not, is there a dock or adapter that does?
Check Wikipedia for references on MHL ... my reading was that it was just mobile high-definition link ... that is, a way of getting hi-def video and audio OUT of the device, not networking IN some peripherals.

I agree. The HDMI connection on my G2x was a lot more simpler. One cord. I am considering being a guinea pig when I get my pay check in a week....
I purchased one of these from amazon.com it works perfectly, but I do agree, microHDMI port would def. be preferable to the extra cord + adapter...

Second link isn't valid.
But I think it would be easier to buy an MHL adapter that you need to provide the HDMI cable. And then just plug in an HDMI to Composite cable. I haven't tried it. But technically, it should work..

Corrected link
You can't just plug HDMI cable(digital signal) to composite which is analog
Sent from my U8500 using Tapatalk 2
That combination should work as long as you supply power to the MHL adapter to keep the phone charged while playing video.

If it doesn't work and you don't want the parts anymore, I'll tak'em off your hands.
With a converter box, it should work.
But for some reason, I've had luck with Digital to Analog connections. No idea why.
First off, stay away from that MHL adapter. With the actual "adapter" end being right on the hdmi side, you put a LOT of stress on the hdmi port with that, and hdmi ports are very easy to break. As stated above, get one that allows you to use your own cable.
Second, you cannot just get a simple cable to go from hdmi to component or composite, it just won't work. You need to use a downconverter, and those aren't very cheap. The link to the one you posted seems VERY suspicious, I personally wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole. The cheapest downconverter I have seen that actually works cost 120 dollars. Personally, anything under 100 dollars I would stay away from.

There are (if I remember correctly) 3 positive reviews on that converter so maybe ill test my luck

for a 100$ you could buy a used flat screen with HDMI, yet small but serve its purpose.
Good luck with it.
I know tiger direct had cheap converters in Canada and the us.
Maybe before you buy it, check some local stores ?
You might get lucky.
