Is this possible? I bought 1 in ebay and its not working, only gives power to usb device not charging my phone, saw a topic on US variant of S3 and it was working.
Do we need a special kernel to make it work?
Btw, saw the cables on ebay
Thanks

Does anybody know if the att note is compatible with the MHL adapters?
I bought one a while back for the sgs2 but never used it and tried using it today with the note but nothing showed up on the tv. Has anyone else tried one, or did I just get a bum adapter

yes... did you plug in the phone's power cord to the adapter as well?
Yea they do work. I used the one that came with my infuse and it works fine. You do need to plug the power adapter into the side for it to work however.

Thanks for your responses, I already tried that but there was a loose connection between the adapter and the power cord... Looks like I'm going to have to perform surgery on the adapter to try to fix it

I assume it is the same as an MHL connector. My questions are 1) Does it also charge your phone so it doesn't die if you're trying to watch a movie on an HDTV and 2) For the following product linked below, what is that small connector for that's next to the part that plugs into the back of your TV? I see that the other end of it plugs into your phone but can't figure out what the 3rd connector is for.

Hmm so you would plug the charger into that one?
Wot ever you do don't buy one of them cables you've put a link to.I already brought the exact same of eBay.and trust me they don't work with Samsung galaxy s3.the only ones the work are genuine Samsung.because the genuine had 19 pins in cable and the one has like 16 or some thing like that.but trust me don't buy it

The HTC micro usb cable is quite a bit longer than the one I got from Samsung so i'm planning on using that one instead of the samsung one. Of course with the correct adapter from Samsung!
Any reason that should cause problems?
greez
btw just bought my SGS III so hi to everyone here on the SGSIII XDA forum!

It should be absolutely fine as it is either the adapter or phone itself that controls the current.

I have such cable and it doesn't work too well. It disconnects itself quickly and doesn't charge properly. But danger: no. Try it and if it works it's ok.

It should just work fine and relatively safe. However, I bought some cheap cables on eBay and it can't charge at all!! Transfering of data is no problem but charging is a problem. I dont know why but I assume its just some poor quality cables.

There wont be any problem.. i have been using my old htc cable too cos its longer..lol... on both my note and s3.. so no problems at all.

I've extended mine with a usb extension cable.

I tried a cheap USB cable that works fine as a data cable and can handle 2.0 speeds but used on S3 and after 8 hours only gave around a 30% charge because looks like the cheap cable must not have been able to handle the 1000mah current.
I use my old HTC cable and adapter to charge my sgs3 works fine. Got a cheap extended cable to use with my original Samsung desktop dock, but that takes ages to charge my phone.

Which USB cable do you use
I currently use one from a white HOX I bought from King on xdamp

Any Micro usb cable does the job. I use the one from my previous blackberry phones

I use any old USB cable to move files and stuff (though mostly I just eject the card), but in the car I use a charging USB cable so I can get the full AC charge voltage out of it.
Yeah same here. I like the kindle charger because its like 4ft

12-pin micro-USB
Standard one that comes with the phone 12-pin and a Motorola dual port wall charger cuz it charges the fastest.

Used to use the stock one provided with the phone, until one day I mis-unpluged it and both the micro usb port of the usb and the port of the phone got broken....
I then went and fixed the phone, brought some HTC usb wires from china......and the wires were really cheap...like $1/wire..
BTW, I'm talking about the Canadian WindMobile version of the phone, which has a strange&funny port shape than the regular micro usb ports the main version of the phone have(I'm blaming my fail on that which made me a little happier).....
Ok i am thinking about buying an amaze 4g but i do have a deal breaker question.
I noticed the amaze has a special usb charger, will i damage the port by using a regular microusb, or will it all be good?
Thanks in advance
P.S. Wasn't sure if this should go in general or Q&A

No. It'll fit just fine. Just have to make sure it sits in there securely. But the original plug and charger is only a few dollars on Amazon.

Does the OEM cable work faster or something? Or is it irrelevant
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app
The speed of charging depends on the wall plug not the cable. I'm not too sure why HTC changed the plug. Someone else can chime in for that.
HTC changed the cable so that it doubles as an HDMI output with the proper adapter. The official cable does charge a bit faster than a standard microusb, but no other functionality should be lost if you don't buy one of those cables. There are only a handful of HTC devices that use it now, and If I'm correct all of them border on obsolete now.
