Bricked my phone trying to s-off. been trying the unbrick project method, but it says waiting on my device when im verifying the hboot version. im quite sure i have hboot 2.09 and it doesnt appear to be in the unbrick package. is it possible unscrew this phone or is there a visit to sprint store in my near future?

If you used dirty racun

You will need linux.

that is the one i tried. it seemed easy enough, but here i am. i didnt want to have to get my hands on a 32 bit windows machine or learn how to use linux for the dirty raccoon. linux isnt so bad. i have been teaching myself to use it today, trying to do the unbrick thing. all goes well until i get to the part where i run the code for the hex dump to determine my hboot version. it just says waiting on device. i know im on 2.09 but it isnt in the package that i extracted from the thread.
How did it brick?

I would goto the forum in here that talks about the facepalm and ask those guys, you can search for beaups and see if he can to, he posted the original thread ... New methods always have issues from what i see , i just did s-off using dirtyracun and is actually pretty easy and they will help you in their irc if you have issues... I'd go that route if you unbrick your phone.. Good luck

Ok, sorry if this info is readily out there but after reading and reading I am just not sure what to do so I am going to ask what I hope is not a dumb question. I have tried to update my firmware using captain_throwback's instructions to flash at the bootloader with a file on the root of the SD card. It was named correctly and never gives me a successful indication. I do not have any issues with the phone but I am just trying to keep it updated as they come out without screwing my HBoot. Is there something that I have missed or am not seeing based on the info below?
I really appreciate any help, thanks!

Make sure to read through it 10 times and triple check that you have all of the necessary items before you begin. It would also be a good idea to have a USB drive with Ubuntu on it just in case.

As the others have said, post #2 has everything you need. I ran the LazyPanda S-off tool last Friday and it worked perfectly. I was pretty nervous when I did it, but as long as you follow the directions you will be fine.
Thanks everyone!!!!
It worked just as advertised, and for the record I read the instructions 14 times (I can be a little ADD sometimes)

I am right there with you, while it was going through feeding panda and said "cant find device" I about crapped myself.
Same here, bricked, but got it back with Ubuntu. Anyone still on the first hboot don't realize what they got and s-off otherwise your wasting your phones potential. There is no excuse for having hboot 1.12 and being s-on anymore.
Swyped from my eVo
I have Hboot 1.15, Fresh EVO OS. And used the Regaw Autoroot following the OTA Update. I heard you can do this using fastboot or HTCdev, but I'm not sure how to do this... And could not find any answers (My concern is that the new FRESH updates use the new radios, and I updated to it, but can't flash the new radios)
If this has already been answered I apologize, but I couldn't find it.
Thank you for the help!
Dude there's threads all over the forum about this issue. Just spend 2minutes looking and you'll be all set
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
You can't update radios if you are s-on hboot 1.15. Your only option to update the radios is to relock and take the ota or install the new ruu. Then unlock again, install twrp, and then install your favorite rom. As many will state, never take the ota because you may loose ability to get s-off in the future. This may be true, but there is no s-off solution for your hboot anyway so you might as well bite the bullet now and live in the present instead of waiting for something that may never happen in the future.
Interesting. All right Thanks for your help. And as for there being threads "all over" I was getting conflicting reports, since I saw on one page where it was possible to flash using HTCdev with S-on, but there was no link or instructions given.
To address ur main concern, there is no need to update your radios. If you want to run a rom that is based off the latest update all u need to do is make sure your kernel matches the kernel in the rom. You can update your kernel with Flash img GUI, found in the app store. Just download the rom u want open flash img GUI select the rom and choose to flash kernel img. Once complete, wipe and flash rom. Njoy!

S-on hboot 1.12
Ok, so I'm rooted, s-on with hboot 1.12. I was able to do the firmware update and update the radios. I've read like crazy and I'm not seeing anywhere I can update the PRI without s-off. Is this correct? One thread said I can flash anything since I'm hboot 1.12 so I'm confused.

If you're on hboot 1.12, I suggest using lazypanda to get s-off right away before doing anything else.

I'm a little bit hesitant to do that since I've read it can go crazy wrong and I'm not as savvy with the phones as the folks on the forums. Do I have to though in order to update my PRI?
I'm not sure, I've been s-off since I got the phone.

I am S-ON HBoot 1.15. Is it possible to flash HTC Stock recovery, go to stock rooted rom, use OTA root Keeper and take the new OTA?
You don't need OTA root keeper because your going to have to do HTC dev to unlock the device again.
With that being said I wouldnt recommend taking the OTA or running the ruu to update because you'll be on the new hboot
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Not to mention the new base for stock has introduced a few of its own issues that the new firmware/hboot can not fix. Several people have attempted to downgrade thinking its the best alternative and brick their phones in doing so. The new firmware doesn't change much anyway
Bought phone today and got home and noticed the hbpot. I'm a flashoholic! What the hell should I do now??? Just HTC dev unlock I guess?

Thanks to you as well. Ok. The instructions are a little sparse. I have a small netbook currently running ubunto, I could use that? Also, I would root with regaw and htc method and then use netbook for rest of instructions.

OK. I got rooted with regawmod, then was successful in the downgrade to 1.12 hboot. Now I am stuck on trying to RUU to 2.13 from 1.22. I keep having it fail on updating though RUU. Is there any other way to get that done? Can I just flash Fresh 5.1.1? Or am i not able to because i'm not S-off???

Y don't u just do the lazypanda s-off now since you are stock. U don't need fresh rom to do it. The new base is installed when u install a new rom on the new base. Just flash radios separately which u can do once s-off or just being on 1.12 I believe.

Yeah but the instructions state to not do it with 1.22 (what i'm currently on) and only to do it with 1.13. Or am i mistaken?

Why would you downgrade hboot and then run ruu to install the latest hboot? If you downgraded to 1.12 you should have no problem running lazy panda. Am I missing something?
On unlimited's site it says the rom requirements to run lazy panda is 1.13 RUU. I was confused on that as well but it hasn't been successful. I'm currently 1.12 hboot with 1.22 software version. So at this point just run the lazy panda?
Someone in mac's development thread stated they were able to run lazy panda on 1.12. You should ask about it in that thread and see if anyone can help
i ran it out of the box no RUU just ran it
Was that you that mentioned it then? I was having a hard time remembering who mentioned it lol
WHOO HOO! I'm S-Off!!! Ok am I finally ready for customer roms etc and I guess i need to flash radios of course.
edit: Thanks guys!

Hey guys,
I was looking around at the other sub-forums trying to figure out how to turn S-ON, Relock my bootloader, and unroot the phone... was hoping someone could help.
I used DirtyRacun to turn S-OFF.
I got a replacement device and need to send the phone back to Sprint and wanted to send them a stock device.

I see what I did wrong, looks like more than likely I was using the wrong HBOOT version of the RUU.
Once I get the correct one I think what the previous member linked to will work.
Thanks for the help guys!
If you go to unlimited.io and check the different methods of gaining S-Off, you'll notice that they are all linking to the same page. So the same method with work for any method.

I am guessing it is for Tmobile?
I have that same version.
It disables revone or moonshine for working so essentially s-off.
I was able to still unlock the bootloader via HTCDev and root using TWRP and SuperSU.
Not really sure what s-off does, since I am able to load custom roms and etc. with current setup anyways....
....
S-off lets us convert to the full GPE version and get ota. I hope devs find a way of getting s-off on 531.11

s-off is security check off. it stops the bootloader from checking for signatures pretty much letting you flash Whatever aslong as the recovery accepts it. can also turn off the recoveries signature check but thats alot easier to do as the recovery alows you to do so freely.
And anyone wouldnt happen to know more info on this would they. as ive noticed sense i did the manual OTA update via HTC's site, regaining s-off is proving to be imensley didficult. "i s-on'd whiel debugging things and regret it lol"
From what I have been able to gather the updated 1.44 or 1.54 cannot be s-offed using revone or moonshine currently.
I'm pretty happy right now, all I care about is GPe 4.3 anyways. Running of 4.3 ROM, firmware, and radio with just unlocked boot loader
