So I'm about to buy an Optimus L9 but i have never had any LG's. Can any owner share their experience from the phone and can any 1 guide me which model to buy.
If you have the money, skip the L9 altogether and go for the Nexus 4. If not, the L9 is more than enough for daily usage (note: I say this having owned this phone for about 5 hours, so take this lightly).
One of the worse things(if not the worse) about this phone is the small internal storage/apps 2 sd not being activated in the stock rom. If you like custom roms/kernels, this phone is hindered in that area because of the locked bootloader. Besides those issues, it's a good phone to use daily, it's my "daily driver".

I'm using a Xperia x10 atm and I'm looking for a replacement. I don't have the money for a nexus 4 so the best i could choose between is the L9 or the HTC Desire X or maybe 1x.

5 hours? You sure?
Literally. I finally got my L9 during my lunch break yesterday. Didn't get to play with it until I got home last night.
So i followed Awesome's advice skipped the L9 and bought an Xperia S. It's just better value for money i think.
Awesome choice. I had an Xperia P for several months and I could not have been more satisfied. I'd imagine the S is an even better package.

Why did you consider L9 when you can afford Xperia S ??? You should ask about Nexus 4 or others at that price range, but definitely not L9!
Oh, and congratz on the new awesome phone , love that 12 mp
Mainly because i like how the LG looked and i hate Nexus phones but the fact that i can't transfer to SD card atm made me change my mind + here the Xperia S costs 60$ more than the LG.
Here (prepaid or unlocked), the L9 is either ~$150 or ~$200 (depends on the time of sale), and the best I can see around for Xperia S is ~$340. So if you got it for $60 more than the L9, it is quite a steal
The LG here without a contract is 350.35$ and the Xperia S is around 420$ without contract again

Stay away from the L9, especially if you have to pay for it.
Sent from my LG-P769 using xda app-developers app
And why would that be?
The l9 is not like most devices, lg updates and flashing require windows, and some people have a hard time unlocking the device. I myself, like the l9 but this is my first true smart phone, Lol.

Exactly. If you plan to buy a low cost smartphone and at the same time you want to be in "fashion" then you must buy something that is really recently released or else head for a high end device.
I bought my p500 7-8 months ago and at that time it was propably the best deal for its value. If I had to buy a low end device today then things would have been different.

I don't regret buying the phone because the phone is quite easy to overclock to a high-end device.
2 weeks after i bought this fone in august, the optimus one's price here in the philippines dropped some $45. now over a month after, new budget models came out...like the optimus net, etc. but am i regretting? Nope.
those who havent stumbled upon xda or were not brave enough to tinker with their OP1s, they might be pulling their hairs right now if they bought theirs the same time i did.
good thing this forum exists and thrives. and with our resident devs who churn out roms and kernels too often, and with forum members always out there ready to help helpless noobs like myself, i couldn't find any reason for regrets!

I bought it in July, long after it was first released, but when reviewing options I still found it the best Android phone in its price range with great developer support that allows us to unleash a performance on par with high-end devices. So no, no regrets.
Even if I were to buy a phone today, it'll still be in the shortlist. In fact the only phone I'm tempted to get over O1 currently (aside from O1's successors like Net/Hub) is Huawei X5, which seems to have shorter battery life that comes with all the higher specs.

Although I've had nothing but good experiences with lg phones, I don't believe in brand loyalty. If a different company is offering a better deal then in my opinion, you should go with them. Personally i think the galaxy ace 2 looks really good, it's high end hardware with a decent price, if it was available in canada I probably would've bought it by now. If you're dead set on an LG, I'd recommend staying away from the optimus L3, L5, L7, and black as they really aren't much of an upgrade compared to the optimus one. The optimus 2x and 4x look alright but they're probably still fairly expensive for what they are.

If you're talking about the GT-S7500, then it's a great phone hardware-wise, but it's got horrible, horrible aftermarket developer support. You can't even find CM7.2 for the damn phone. Hopefully the rumors of an official JB update is true. Also, I don't know if this is true of most Samsung phones, but the Ace Plus is really sensitive to being flashed and easily bricked. Rooting and flashing a custom ROM on my A+ was more nerve wracking (since I didn't have a usb jig should things go wrong) than the time I bricked my O1 for 2 days.

Yeah, hi there. Some of you might know me. Due to my unfortunate experiences with this device (mainly my seemingly impossible bootloader that I've tried twenty different ways), I'm considering getting a new device. In particular, a Windows Phone. I hate Microsoft and I really like Android, but I'm willing to drop a few hundred dollars on a WP after this. Due to the bootloader on this device, there isn't much for us to develop and contribute.. Other then help others with the bootloader. Everything seems to be about that and helping people who messed up the flashing. So I just wanted to say that I might be leaving soon. I'll still be here if you need anything ^-^

I echo all of your sentiments. It's just disappointing.
I just left the L9 for the G2, and It's night and day. Seems like LG has no problems listening to users for the top shelf phones, but could care less about the mid to low end ones.
Yeah the G2 is beautiful. I'm not sure what phone I'll get next but I'll be sticking with the android camp. Was fortunate to unlock the bootloader. I didn't have a choice but to get this one, and if I did, I probably would've chose the Nexus 4.

I hear you
My model is unlockable but mine specifically i never succed in unlocking.. My new phone is already comming, a Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE. I'm not sure i will install any custom ROMs but at least i will have the chance to try them on. Right now i'm stucked with L9 locked and ICS. Really desapointing. I hope soon all phones will have an option to the user to unlock their bootloader, because HEY, I WANT to lost my warranty and install anything i want, its MY phone, right?
Thanks for your contributing with us along your L9 lifetime. Good luck next time for us all
So you hate Microsoft and love Android, and you will buy a WP. Nice logic there
Jokes aside, the fact that you had a bad experience with an unlockable bootloader doesnt mean that every other phone will be the same. Also with WP you wont be able to change anything aside from the color and the size of the tiles, which is very sad. Just go with a Nexus or a investigate a bit about the scene of the device before you buy it. I had a Moto Defy with locked bootloader before my L9-P778g (which i unlocked very easily) but i even managed to make a ROM for it by myself. Heck, it even haves more ROMs than the L9 with an unlocked bootloader... So you should not be so drastic and chage a restricted device for a even more restricted one with a restrictive OS....

Exactly this. ANY android phone manufacturer will lock their bootloader upon carrier request. Samsung does it, HTC does it, Sony does it, Motorola does it. Think i will live too, i'll probably get a Note 2 But I'll still keep L9
So I have my hands on this beast now! I started out with a Nexus 4, traded for an Oppo Find 5, then traded that for a Note2 traded that for a Xperia Z, traded that for a Galaxy S4, then traded that for a HTC One, then traded that for an LG G2!
I am keeping my eye out for the Moto X, its intriguing to me...BUT not over the LG G2, this thing lasts ALL day on battery.
My question now is.... am I holding the original designed phone that the Nexus 5 is being made out of? Should I consider getting the Nexus 5? I dont care for the stock Android thing or updates because I am rooted so that is not a factor.

Honestly the only thing thats a big factor are the prices. The lg g2 is better then the nexus 5 IF you are rooted (pure android). Bought my lg g2 from a guy that didnt need for 500 bucks. 50 dollar difference than the nexus 5 that just came out. just got cyanogen on it and it'll work as good as the nexus 5. The nexus 5 only had the pure android experience and the price as an advantage. I got both of these from my LG g2 so for me there was no point in getting the nexus 5.

Someone offered me a 2013 Nexus 7 and a HTC One for my White 32gb Note 3. I am pretty sure i am getting the G2. Really would love the N5 , but Google play says it won't leave the wear house for 3 weeks and I don't have anything to b use til thenn can't 3 weeks for a phone...I hear the G2 is pretty dope and almost the same performance wise as the note 3. Don't worry about it. LG rarely updates a phone more than once or twice anyway. The devs at XDA will take care of us as long as they still use it. Like you said, it's got more than enough horsepower to last a while. Probably the only real killer will be when everyone goes to x64 operating systems.

This is indeed the phone to beat. Thank you very much for the information you have.
I read that a carrier in Canada has put an "end of life" on the g2, and they do list s4 as an alternative. It's also known that the g3 is in the works and will be out this summer. 4.4.2 may be the last official android version for the g2.
However! There is a huge development community behind the g2, so it's likely that versions will continue well into the future, the g3 ROM will likely be ported to the g2. When the g2 does stop receiving official updates, I would root and be happy with what the devs here can cook up

How can anyone think the S4 is a superior phone to this?

Why get rid of this phone? This phone is arguably a step above the Nexus line so far. We have plenty of AOSP options to choose from and now that we have official Kit Kat we will surely have plenty of new/more stable options.

Well I for one will not get rid of the g2..i really do just like this phone haha... I have managed to keep the phone stock this long and may keep it stock til the day comes they stop supporting it... Then yes i will root and keep it alive.. Even as a back up.. I just hate to see it go officially.. Can anyone else see 5.0 running fine on this phone cause I for one believe it will.. Sounds good don't it.. G2 5.0..lol hopefully one day

All this means is that LG is going to stop producing the phone in favor of a newer model. Samsung makes their phones for years beyond their relevant lifespan and you can still find ancient Galaxy phones like the S2 on the shelves. The S3 is still the absolute go-to phone for any free contract, prepaid or non-contract deals. LG is a much smaller manufacturer and doesn't have the deals and agreements like Samsung does to pimp out their phones.
The Galaxy S4 is not going anywhere, it's going to stick around just as long as any of the Galaxy S flagships if not longer. The LG G2 will just be EoL as far as the carrier is concerned. So if you're a Bell customer, I'd recommend to get familiar with modifying your phone because Bell is likely not to push you any future updates.

Not sure what you mean by deals because the G2 was free much sooner than the S3. The OG and G2 both saw rapid price drops.

When I got my G2, the S3 was being peddled by every single carrier and given out like candy. You are/were able to pick up the S3 on almost any shelf as a prepaid device and if you signed into any deal that had free phones you got a S3. Samsung is still most likely making the S3, "emerging markets"(I assume) and every prepaid company basically relies on that phone. LG has none of those deals really and you'll never find a G2 in a plastic package hanging on a shelf at Walmart. Within 6 months, you'll most likely see the S4 in those packages.
This just says that LG is going to stop production of the G2 most likely because the G3 is coming out. LG doesn't have the market or ability to continue to sell their old flagship phone for years on end. They probably didn't have a huge profit margin on it since they can't sell and pump out millions upon millions of the phone. Thus since sales are tapering off and people are going for the new M8/S5 they're focusing on moving forward.
This could also just simply mean Bell is going to stop selling it since it's not selling well for them.

It's probably only LG's fault, not the carriers. If LG stopped making the G2 and started the G3 (due to limited manufacturing capacity), the carriers can't get any more stock so they list it as End Of Life. Meanwhile, the S4 is still being manufactured (even the S3 4G is still manufactured) so that's why they list it as alternative.

Can you buy a Nexus 4 today, and Google i think has 18 month update policy, so next version might be the last for Nexus 4 too. Fact is in today's tech world, you have a new flagship every 6 months, that does not necessarily mean you have to upgrade every 6 months.
Even if 4.5 is launched by end of this year, 95% of apps will still work on 4.4 and our phone is more then capable to handle them. So sit back and enjoy mate, until you wanna get suck in number wars and not care about the experience
I wouldn't let the EOL tag scare anybody away from this beast of a phone. Thanks to the awesome XDA forums, rooting, and a new battery; I made my old Droid Eris last for 2+ years and still going strong before getting a different phone. And the Droid Eris was EOL like 3 hours after I bought it haha

Nope. The last Android for G2 will be in 2015. Look for Optimus G Pro, it is year old and it got Kitkat 2nd update in Korea. So stop FUD
