My samsung Galaxy S2 Model SPH-D710 just updated to Android 4.0.4 and now will not connect via USB to my computer running Win7
I never had this problem with it before, first time I tried since that update just the other day and so I'm guessing it has something to do with it.
Running Stock. I don't see anywhere to make it connect to get the phone itself to show up as a drive.
It's been a while since I ran stock ICS but have you tried, settings - storage- menu. That may offer you some more options. Does kies recognise your phone? Also check USB debugging in developer options.
DO NOT PERFORM ANY WIPES AT ALL WHILE RUNNING STOCK 4.0.4

Kies won't install on my puter, go figure, but I have been auto connecting for over a year now just by plugging in and windows seeing it as a drive.
Now I cannot connect to get any pics off my phone storage.
So, I have a Samsung Galaxy S 2, am I in the wrong forums?
If this keeps up I'm just gonna ROOT I hate stock when it starts messing up.
Yes, you're still in the wrong forum.

Just got a s3 today after selling my htc one x and I want to root. I know hwp to do it but odin wont detect the phone. Tried restarting and using other usb ports but it still doesn't work. Not sure what the problem is.
Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

I thought keis needed to run for the drivers. Even when I try to connect to keis it won't detect though

As @sriram231092 said correctly you have to stop ALL of kies related processes.
The kies is important so your OS will have the required drivers so the device could be recognized.
After installing kies, make sure you do a reboot and then, just before you start ODIN close all the kies related processes.
I also suggest you run ODIN as admin if you're running win 7 or above.

hmm, I think it might be the USB cable, it doesn't detect even when I try to use mass storage. Have ordered a new yesterday.

Does device manager(DM) recognizes your device ? try to uninstall drivers from DM and re-connect your phone.
I also suggest using back door input for your usb.

Solved!!
It was the cable that is sh*t, not the phone or the computer.
Cheers guys!
Great news!
Enjoy your soon-to-be-rooted S3

Try to restart your pc/laptop? Take out the usb cable, restart windows, stop kies, start odin, plug in usb and it should say added.
Ps: you only needed kies to install your phone drivers, so make sure it has installed the drivers, you can check by normally starting your phone, plug in usb and see a popup msg.

Yeah, I am already loving it. Installed ARHD pretty much straight away.
I'm much preferring this phone to the one x I had, everything right down to the volume of the speaker I think is better.
Well it's great to hear
Actually I have 2 S3 at home the other one is my mom's, I've installed for her SAMMY based and I've got AOSP based kinda having the cake and eat it

Did you unlock it again? I'm guessing since you said you can't root means that you didn't use the stock image that was already rooted. Just had this same issue with a friend, flashed back to stock w/root, factory reset everything, and it worked. Then backed up everything and went to a new rom.
No I didnt unlock. Im uploading pics to show my problem.
My phone is not detected at all when plugged up to pc its just charged so no adb or rooting commands.
I used CASUAL but when it tries to push the PIT file it fails. Odin also fails when trying to use the PIT file and when it comes to flashing the modem

You made sure to put it in to debugging mode too, right?
Of course, thats simple.
Phone isnt recognized at all when plugged to pc.
Not in mtp, ptp, or adb. Nothing at all except indication that its in a power source.

You said you used casual and when it tried to push the pit it failed.
Check your drivers or try another PC
I have a version of causal that does work on 4.1.2 and also allows u to start the command from download mode so thats how I was able to try casual.
Yes im 100% I have all drivers correct

hi,
ideally, Nand Erase All option is not to be selected in Odin which you selected....this option has unexpected problem like the one you encountered and hence this is the cause of your handset issue of Banseband & IMEI unknown. Please avoid this option in future.
Thanks,

i have that program it fails at installing PIT file and so does Odin
Have you tried a different cable, for some reason it seems this phone is picky on what cables and even what USB port it wants to work on. Don't use a USB 3.0 port use a US 2.0.

Have you tried wireless adb? What about airdroid? Just wondering exactly where you stand? Did the phone show a notification when plugged in? The Devil is in the details.

I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II SCH-i605 which has the 4.3 OTA. I downloaded Saferoot, unzipped it - and tried to root. I am ALWAYS getting stuck at "waiting for device to appear"
My computer recognizes my phone as an installer, camera, or media device - depending on which I have selected. I have tried running Saferoot using 4 different USB ports, 5 different USB cables (including the original white one the phone came with) and EVERY time I get stuck at "waiting for device to appear".
Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Uninstall the drivers and reboot. Install the samsung drivers and reboot. ensure windows can search & and install from windows update. now try the process. the drivers are the toughest part of the process.

I am at a total loss.
I did everything you suggested. still no joy.
I did notice that every time I connect my phone I am given the RSA Key box and click Always from this phone...but it asks this EVERY time I connect my phone.
If I clicked Always ... why does it always ask me?
I am thinking I should have kept my Droid RAZR.........
I really do not understand how my computer recognizes my phone as an SCH-i605 with bot the "phone" and "card" as possible drives but the command prompt cannot see my phone...
I have reinstalled the drivers at least 3 times now - from the device itself, from the Samsung website, and from another forum on this site...nothing is working...
I even re-flashed the 4.3 .tar file using Odin and went through the entire process of re-setting up my phone...no joy.
Oh Android - why do you hate me so?
@jburchii,
You've probably done this already, but just making sure....Have you enabled USB debugging for your phone under developer options?
If not... you can find this in your system settings.

Yes - Did this...I am re-installing Kies hopefully this will work...oh the drudgery.
Update: I just installed Kies 3 - I currently have the Samsung USB driver for mobile phones installed (it is in my "Programs and Features)...still getting stuck on "waiting for device"
I mean NOTHING seems to be working. Does anyone who successfully completed this on an SCH-i605 have a copy of the driver they are using?

I've ran into this problem before and one or both of these fixed it for me.
Use the factory USB cable that came with your Samsung Phone
Try another computer
So nothing worked until I downloaded Safe Root.apk
Now I AM rooted on Nebulae 3.6.
