[q] i need some assistance with locked bootloader - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I tried using triangle away over the weekend and it messed up my phone I was unable to enter into TWRP recovery so I had to restore back to stock through odin and somehow in the process my dumbass excepted the ota of VRALL4 which is with the bootloader locked again so I went to Modderx Youtube video and downloaded all the necessary files CASUAL Backatcha ,Odin307,BAV Baseline ,Back Atcah Verizon Bootloader
I do have jave installed I started with opening casual did not proceed until going to Odin and flashing BavBaseline and it failed I feel it is because I know a maybe somewhat of a noobie but ive unlocked this bootloader before I think it has something to do with the BAVBaseline and the BackatchaVerizon Bootloader I noticed in Modderx's videos these files are colored like a purple ,blue and yellow or something like that when I download the BavBaseline and the BackatchaVerizon there not converting I was wondering if the file links are broken or am I suppose to extract these somehow and dont know how ...All I know is that I now currently have VRALL4 and its not happening I was hoping someone could suggest what I could do to unlock my bootloader yet again or figure out why im having problems with these two files heres the link try downloading the two links im having trouble with and someone verify if its me or are these links jacked up
Heres the link http://droidmodderx.com/galaxynote2/bootloader-unlock-root-twrp-install-after-ota-vrall4/ to all the files
and yes I had device in debugging and java

Maybe look at the actual thread for it. At post 555 (right now the last one) the guy posts steps he used to get it to work

Don't come here to troubleshoot if you used a YouTube video to do your mods. Stick with the source. Analogy time:
Would you buy a car from the Ford dealership, then go to Toyota a day later to find out why it won't start?
Again, I'm going to drive this point home once again to you: you need to read up. I think you've started at least a dozen threads in the last week (some duplicates) for common scenarios that are stickied and easily found via search.

Also, maybe use commas and periods and, you know, grammar.
Even if I could help you, it's so hard to actually understand that stream of consciousness writing.

I'd also suggest sticking with the source as well because it makes things easy to troubleshoot when something doesn't work because everyone is receiving the same exact instructions.

Delete all the files you have downloaded and start over. If you want to use a video follow the one in Adams thread it is easy to follow and all the current downloads are right there. Just re start and follow along step by step. it isn't a race.

[Q] Help reroot dx2

Please bear with me
OK I have a rooted Dx2 ver. 2.3.3 i need to send in my Dx2 for replacement but Verizon told me they won't unless i have the current vers. of GB 2.3.4.
To unroot there is an app in the market that will remove it completely, including all the symbolic links, its called Ginger Unroot.
Ginger Unroot did the trick, i re-installed all the bloat ran Ginger Unroot, but i missed unfreezing 2 files i think they were "update" and "updater".
So when i went to settings - about phone - System Updates, but it does not work.
So i screwed up now i just want to root the phone and if the files are still there, unfreeze the the 2 files and unroot again and d/l the 2.3.4 OTA.
Here's where i really need help i was going to use Gingerbreak to root but i found out it is no longer supported i think it is because i'm running 2.3.3
I have been searching for days on what to do and all i have found out there does not appear that a one click root does not exist.
I have heard that i might have to SBF back to froyo??
Can i do it on a mac?
i'm worried that i will need to do it on a pc.
Also what version of windows do i need to use?
If i have to SBF can i d/l the files and go to an internet cafe or kinkos and use a pc to do this?
Here's an example are the drivers for the phone or are they meant to be run on a pc, would an internet cafe or kinkos let me do this installing software on their computers.
*Install the necessary moto drivers*
* Motorola_End_User_Driver_Installation_5.1.0 32bit or 64bit depending on your computer's CPU architecture
First do you know if i do gain root again will the 2 files show up or have they been
deleted, gone forever.
If this is the only way, can someone tell me exactly what i need to do. I don't want to try to follow any posts because if im at a kinkos or someplace i can access a pc. i don't want to wind up getting stuck or not understanding something.
If i can get to a pc i see that you need to use terminal commands, if i have to do it that way i'll be lost and screw up something.
Please help i don't want to get to a place that i might not fully understand
In other words a Dumbed down set of instructions.
I'm not knocking forums but because of my disability i get lost and frustrated with all the info you can find. I really need to get any help from one person, i get very confused easly
Which method do you recommend/easies: It seems Wugfresh has a one click vers. which is still confusing. I have come across other posts on how to reroot which is making it nearly impossible to follow.
I have ADD and i'm ready to give up and hope i can tell Verizon it won't update and won't discover the 2 missing files, do you think if i just tell them it won't update, and having removed any signs of it was rooted, do you think i can get away with this "playing dumb" cus so far over the past 2 weeks i have gotten responses from my posts that don't help, i just get told to "see this post" and tell me to try this or that.

I am really burned out, please tell me what you recommend.
To be frank i would just like to return it as is, do you think i can get away with this?
Thanks

Doing an sbf is probably going to be your best bet. Check stickies there should be info on sbfing on a Mac.
This thread on rootzwiki may have some useful info for you.

A sbf will solve your problems and I believe it can work with any software mine is vista. Go to the development section first post from booked and he has all the files you need. Use Pete's one click root very easy. Don't give up you will just have to read some.
Hey there! Welcome in! Got to my tutorial thread here: HowTo: Perform a SBF ("factory restore") of your Motorola Droid X2. This will walk you through, step by step, how to perform an SBF restore. If you have questions, either post them in that thread, or PM me. It's simple and straight forward.

Few rooting questions

i just watched this video and want to install this rom and radio. I had a thunderbolt on bamf in the past and really liked it. but my power button broke and i had to get a warranty replacement so im back on stock rom.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=kbuq4tCTZss
I need to root, im not afraid to do it seeing how i had it on my last phone, i was comfortable with using the command prompt coding. but ive seen this new process seeing how i did this almost a year ago.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UK_CiB2SYk&feature=player_embedded
so i can just download this application and instantly root my phone not doing any of the adb commands?
I want to follow this old video link that has the codes -- http://www.akaskriller.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=1872
but i honestly dont have the 5$ to sign up to get the root package that has the files i need etc.
does anyone know why the link doesnt work to get that rom and radio, and or know a sister downloading site, also do you know where else can get the root package
thanks
Will

[Q] All in one Root tool

Hi folks. I am not allowed to post in the developer forums since I am a new user so I figured I'd try here and hopefully some developer will be watching this forum.
I want to root my new Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4. I found the thread regarding the all in one tool for doing the root and installing recovery.
I followed the instructions, downloaded the tool, connected my phone, invoked the tool and selected Option 1 (Root my phone). The cursor skipped down one line and then nothing. I waited 15 minutes to make sure it wasn't doing anything but that's it, nothing.
I am new to Android and therefore new to Rooting so I thought this all in one tool would be perfect for me to get the job done. But I now have no idea why nothing happens when I invoke the tool and select Option 1.
Is there somebody in this forum who can help me please?
Thanks ............ Rob

Once you select Option 1, you need to go back to the main windows to uncheck one box (F something) and then click start before it does the rooting. I missed it yesterday also and just keep waiting until I realized there was a step I didn't do.

Same here, Verizon Samsung g s4.
I followed the instructions: unchecked the F. reset box, and selected tar and clicked start. The "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0) line showed up, and nothing else.

Did you enable USB debugging and third-party? USB debugging can be found by tapping on build number (i think) under about phone like 7 times. Developer options should appear in your settings after that. Third-party sources is under security I believe. Hope that helps!

I don't mean to hijack any responses here, but seeing as I have the same problem as OP I think it's safe to say that he also enabled USB debugging and third-party sources. Nothing

I actually found my problem. Even though I had the usb debugging flag set, when I tried to root, a popup window came up in the background asking me to confirm that I wanted to enable usb debugging. Because it was in the background I kept missing it. Once I saw it and replied, everything worked perfectly. Hope this maybe helps someone.

Question about using the 3 in 1 tool
I am wondering a few things. I have the Samsung Galaxy 4 that has not been activated by Verizon yet. I want to use it on Straight Talk which uses GSM. After running this tool with the unlocking and rooting, will I be able to do this?

Hello everyone this is my very first post, I am looking to root my verizon s4 using the one tool kit i dont believe i will have any trouble doing so i have rooted a few phones in my past before, my only question is about unrooting. i didnt want to start a whole new thread for this so figured i would ask here. is the VRUAMDK Factory Image (modified with No-Wipe) that you download from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301259 is that the stock verizon firmware the only thing holding me back from rooting is not being sure that i have the stock firmware to flash, i might mess up and wanna make sure i have that for any situation that might come up. would someone plz confirm that that is the file i want to return to no root stock

Root just allows you to hack the software on your phone, and the "unlock" refers to the bootloader. It does not unlock the phone for other carriers; this is done (from what I understand) by dialing a specific set of codes, generally provided to you by the original carrier of the phone if you have an account in good standing with them and you tell them you plan on travelling out of the country and need to use GSM. I have never needed to do this and as such only have a minor theoretical knowledge of the subject; I would appreciate it if somebody with more knowledge on this would confirm or deny my suspicion that you are better off trading the phone for an AT&T/T-Mobile one that actually was meant for GSM, or otherwise obtaining one.

This is the original bootloader; not the stock firmware. You need to flash this after you successfully root, start the phone, start SuperSU, and update the SU binary.
The full stock firmware is rather large and available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2289325
might not know as much as i thought
thanks for telling me this first of all, so let me see if i get this right and im hoping you or someone will tell me if im correct or not. The all in one root method does that take care of the whole SuperSu, and update part or do i still need to do that after the root tool does its business? With unrooting do i just need to flash the stock firmware in odin use triangle away and i should be good correct, im not quite understanding the whole thats the original bootloader....the file that downloads is a .tar i thought that was firmware/rom....what do i need the original bootloarder for exactly? I honestly am to the point id be willing to pay someone who has a credible rep to video chat and walk me through it all

The original bootloader is locked and doesn't allow for us to use the exploit to install SuperSU and root the phone.
We are installing the unlocked bootloader via Odin...
Then running motochopper to exploit a vulnerability to gain root...
Then MANUALLY (this can't happen automagically) opening SuperSU and updating the SU binary...
Then rebooting the phone to make sure you still have root (personal preference)...
Then re-loading the original bootloader (we don't need the modified one anymore!) via Odin...
Then we are done!
The steps in the how to are very precise and accurate. If you would like to PM me, I am available for another hour or so.

Well said. Only correction is the bootloader still remains locked. The recoveries included are loki patched. This bypasses the bootloader. All roms and kernels are loki patched so flashing them is safe. This is as close as we're gonna get to an unlocked bootloader for now.
Ah. I was under the impression the bootloader was unlocked. Thanks for the info.

[Q] Please help!!!! Galaxy s4 :(

Im new to all this and ive also never used the site before so bear with me
I got my Galaxy for christmas 2013... With that being said, when I opened it I updated it with all the latest updates like it required. A few days later I remembered how much fun my last rooted phone was and decided to root it. I ended up rooting my galaxy s4 using a method I found which you download some chinese application to your pc, Plug in the phone, it reboots and does everything by itself. I checked and it was a successful root. Yay...Until I realized I wasnt done yet. Now my problem is that I DONT HAVE A CUSTOM RECOVERY. I CANT GET ONE BECAUSE OF THE ANDROID SOFTWARE VERSION, LATEST BUILD NUMBER AND SO ON. My root is completely useless! Im left frustrated because I cant get any great roms, and do cool root stuff simply because i need to install a custom recovery to flash any of these things.
I tried downloading one using a method i found from Galaxys4root.com or something like that for Clockworkmod recovery.. The guy said in the video to copy the two files for the custom recovery, and paste them in a folder (He navigates through es file explorer finds Data>Local>tmp at least I think... and then pastes it) my Galaxy had none of these folders nor would it let me create them! The only folder I could open was the "Data" folder. After that, there was nothing else... meaning no "Local" folder and obviously no "tmp" folder inside of the non-existing "local" folder. Therefor the terminal emulator cant find them or use them while theyre in the "download" folder of my phone. (unless you just type something different into the terminal emulater to allow it to run them but im still new to this so i dont know how to do that either. Other methods i found for installing a custom Recovery this were either the exact same thing, or for an older version that was before all the updates That I installed. keep in mind i got this phone for christmas 2013 so its running "Android 4.3" My model number is "SCH-I545" with buildnumber ending in "MK2".... ITS ALREADY ROOTED.
It seems like nobody has any other methods out with those versions and id REALLY REALLY like to take advantage of my root... If anybody knows how to help me install a custom recovery please let me know PS I HAVE VERIZON... (idk if that matters) THANKS!!!

you need to research what the heck you are doing before you jump into this game. Countless threads in these forums describing what and what can't be done to S4 concerning rooting, recoveries and roms.
1. the vroot method in NOT a recommended method, a much better one has been out there for several weeks where you dont have to deal with chinese software/malware
2. Your phone is a MK2 base and you CAN NOT LOAD any custom recoveries like CWM or TWRP The bootloader is locked down tight and the prospects of this ever being hacked is pretty slim to none becasue of the security features in place both hardware and software sides.
3. The only avenue for a custom ROM is thru safestrap and the only 4.3 base ROM compatible is Hyperdrive 12.0
so sit back and spend some time and educate yourself. At least your phone isn't a paperweight yet.
Well the last time I rooted my droid, it already had a recovery. I did a bunch of research I just should have waited.. is that rom any good? And is it possible for me to get?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Yes hyper drive is an excellent rom, however as mentioned above, since the first phones initial release there have been lock downs on the phones bootloader so be very careful on trying to apply any type of root or recovery

Awesome! Well what would you personally recommend for someone in my situation? Should I wait until someone can break through MK2 then get a recovery when it is "safer" I guess, or unroot and do it all over again later (which would stuck because I don't wanna lose all my contacts and stuff).. Ive seen other people in my position and the are probably people trying to crack at it too.. The way I see it I already have the root.. I just need a safe way to get a recovery. I cant be COMPLETELY screwed lol. Thanks for all the input by the way. It's greatly appreciated!

safestrap has a recovery built in but as mentioned, you just can't load any rom you want...if you mean wait until they find a way to unlock the bootloader so custom recoveries like CWM or TWRP could run any ROMs...I hate to tell you, it is appearing to be highly unlikely to ever happen.
I looked up Hyperdrive and I liked it. Looked like a great rom and had everything I needed! Thanks alot. Would you by chance have any links for safestrap and hyperdrive 12.0? Because I didn't however find anyone using it on MK2 nor 4.3 so it kind of worries me.. Or if you know if a video, tutorial, or any kind of material with somebody using 4.3 and MK2 flashing hyperdrive through safestrap.

Well I got safe strap. But while I was flashing the rom, the process stopped on a screen with a black background and whit text and I fell asleep waiting for it to finish... I woke up the next morning and my galaxy s4 has SCREEN BURN.... there's lines and text all over the screen no matter what I do with it.. So now I'm going to return it to best buy and get another one. This Sucks haha. But now i NEED to unroot it by tomorrow and i need to know how to do it since I'm still running MK2 and android 4.3... i never finished flashing the rom last night. I just pulled the battery while it was frozen and rebooted It back into stock. I appreciate everyone's help so far.

You can use SuperSu from the play store to do a full un-root. Then you should be good by the sounds of it.

[Q] I totally messed up my Unroot...HELP!

Ok so first of all a disclaimer: This is my very first forum post in my life so excuse any unspoken rules that are not being followed. I took my phone to a phone nerd store and even he couldn't give me answers so he suggested this site where "the phone gods" are as he said. Also feel free to face palm during or after reading this issue because it too, was my first root and clearly I should not have....anyway step by step here is what I did and hopefully someone can tell me where to go from here.
I rooted my phone about a month ago. I am not familiar with flashing ROMs and what not so when the new KitKat came out I wanted to download it but didn't know how with my phone rooted. I looked up on YouTube how to unroot and go back to stock and there as a video for a "One click" unroot. So being unwise and an idiot, I downloaded it and it said unrooted, however it just deleted supersu and my phone no longer has root access however when I boot it up it still has the unlock logo and in recovery mode I get the green android with writing in the top left corner stating that ODIN mode is being ran. My issue is that ever since I did that, I can no longer log into any google apps such as playstore or even a google plus act..it just says there is a problem with the servers. Like I said before , I took it to someone who knew what they were doing and he said he would flash it back to stock unrooted, but during his troubleshooting, he said it kept failing and he didn't want to be responsible for messing it up further. If anyone can tell me what the hell I did so I don't make the same mistake again would be great, even greater if someone can walk me through how to get back to stock. I know this is a lot to ask, but like I said I have zero idea. From reading other posts, I will list all the info I have about my phone so that can be a starting point.
Verizon GS4
Model # I545
Android Version 4.3
MK2 Build
Kernel Version 3.4.0
Any info or ideas would be great! again, feel free to include what a dunce I am because I sure feel like one!
Thanks!
