[APP][4.0+] Greenify: Hibernating apps rather than killing them - Atrix 4G Themes and Apps

After seeing weird wakeups of Contacts+ app, I started to search for a solution and found this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155737
It hibernates the app rather than killing it, preventing it to launch itself again. If an app is obsessed to wake your phone and drain your battery, it's time you teach some manners

This will help in the battery drain? on leaked ICS?

Battery drain of leaked ICS isnt related with app abuses. Greenify stops battery drains of aggressive apps like facebook.

i dont want to sound bad but...
IT WAS IN THE XDA NEWS THIS WEEK!
you should check the news more often. lol.
it wont help much with the ICS kernel problem, but a will help at least a little, since a LOT of "Blur" apps cause the battery drain[since... eclair(yeah, 2.0!)]

How did you get the idea that i havent read that news? News you said was on feb 25th, I installed the app a week ago.
I just wanted to share it with people. And those who have problems with nonsleeping apps, will surely benefit it.

I think it works just fine on me, useful info. Thx

Battery Drain......Try this out........

After trying too many fixes from various thread I am really unhappy about the battery drain issue of my SGS2.
Here is a fix which makes me happy at last. You all who facing this problem can try this. This works best when you are with custom roms. But stock also shows improvement.
1st you have to root your SGS2 and just freeze the below process with titanium(paid version) or root uninstaller(free version) apps from the market.
"software update"
Try this if your battery last then usual thank me.
You can also stop the service from application menu but its auto starts so.....try those apps.
Thank you.

Interesting mate,
Always worth a shot)
apparently you need to have root the phone to be able to do it with root uninstaller

Have just frozen, will report back in a couple of days.
Previous posts suggest the same reason seems to be that its always trying to connect .

Yea...its the only service that always trying to connect to the Samsung server. I tested the whole process and mega battery drain in custom rom happens by this process. and also for stock you will see improvement if you freeze the process.

honestly, if you guys really feel the need for better battery life I would try pulser's VillainRom. I'm getting easily a 1 day 15 hours for normal usage out of my phone.
Is Software Update a Samsung service or Android's own updater? Wouldn't want to block Android's.
I've already frozen Wifi Sharing and most Samsung apps, and already seeing a 12 hour+ improvement of battery life.
Can someone confirm my first question, please? Thanks.

Yes! This is the only solution that works for me!
I've tried everything, and I always spend at least 10mA. Now I spend 1mA-2mA (with data or wifi on). In one day I'll publish the the battery graph.
I'm also using autostarts to prevent some processes run.

Yup, something like that. Before I used to get around 10-12 hours on moderate usage (from 100% to critical <5%), and now I can pretty much go for full 24 hours. This is on stock (rooted) XWKE7 rom with stock launcher, just by freezing all Samsung hubs and WiFi Sharing services. Also remember to be moderate about your widget and Live Wallpaper usage, as well as setting your screen to automatic or low brightness. I have removed most default widgets and have a no-frills LWP.
Samsung apps really eat through your battery.
Anyway, is Software Update Samsung's or Android's updater? Anyone know?

With Battery Monitor Widget Pro (free version). There is a graphic for mA.
I got down to 1mA, but occasionally get back to 20mA of comsumption and I have to kill tasks with task killer pro.

Could you please provide me with list of samsung apps that are taking battery and can be frozen? Thanks mate!
Thanks for the tip.
Did the trick for me. Easily 10-15 extra hours.
With the very same usage and brightness level as the SGS1, would the SGS2 have the same battery life or better?

CM7 Q&A

Since we have Q&A stickies in the Inspire and Captivate forums (as well as a few other fora around here), I thought we need a general CM7 Q&A here for the Atrix.
BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS IN THE FORUMS, ASK YOURSELF:
Has this question probably come up so often that there is an FAQ that includes it?
OFFICIAL CM7 FAQ FROM THE ATRIX-DEV TEAM
Phalanx7621 said:
I know how much people LOVE to post questions in here as if it's the CM7 ROM and get all pissy about how things dont' work, but keep in mind that if that were true and a bunch of stuff didn't work it would NOT have been made part of the nightly CM7 releases. Also, it wouldn't have been released if that were the case. The devs work very hard to make sure most major problems are taken care of before every release, but if yer flashing A NIGHTLY, keep in mind it comes with NO promises of functionality and it is STATED in the OP that it shouldn't be used as a daily driver. So if you have a stable version, such as the lastest stable version found on the development page OP, then post a question or comment here after searching for the answer with search feature here and google. Otherwise, there's a Nightly post section as well in the Development side if you wanna look there and that's what yer using. Most of the time if there is a major issue and you can't find it on the bug tracker than it's yer phone, or something you have installed that is messing with the functionality of the ROM. Lastly remember folks, it's the developers job to make their product work with the ROM, not the other way around. Have fun, happy flashing!

You know what ? Its a damned good idea. Too many people are cluttering the development thread. Now since no one else has posted a question related to CM7, I have one:
Can someone help me figure out what is eating my battery on standby ?? I don't have that power hungry facebook app and I did some tweaks found ( via SetCPU ) that I found in the development thread, but it made very little difference. The thing is, I just have no idea how to monitor what is using all the power. How did they figure out that facebook was causing a big drain ?
Do you use google latitude?
A very good thing is use BetterBatteryStats to really understand where the CPU is being keept awake. The embed battery stats for example only showed me Android OS as a culprit, but gave me no further details..
my 2 cents
i have heard CPU Spy is great for figuring out whats using up your resources. dont know as i tend to get pretty good battery life (16+ hours with exchange push enabled)
Thanks for the tips. Yes, I do/have used latitude. I'll put an end to that and give those apps a try. Will report back!

Had anyone else had trouble getting the hbogo app to work on CM7? I can login and try to play a video but get audio with no video. The hbogo splash screen plays perfectly when playing a video for the first time.

When I receive a call, my phone goes to a lock screen, I have to swipe the lock screen to answer. On stock, when I got a call, the screen woke up in the dialer app and all I had to do was press the answer button. For the life of me I can't seem to find a setting to change this, any input appreciated.

Do you by chance have Tango installed? I had it for all of 2 days and noticed my battery died about twice as fast as it normally would. I usually get a good 16+ hours easy with moderate use but was only getting about 9 with the same usage. Did a quick google search and verified tango was the culprit. Uninstalled and back to normal. I don't know if this applies to any other video call apps but might be worth looking into.

Think I already read something about it, but cannot find right now... What's the deal with /mnt/emmc and /sdcard in cm7 ? Is it possible to get it back like the stock rom ?
I am having problems using Titanium and taking screenshots, think it is something related...
Thanks in advance!
Wifi connectivity drives me nuts on cm7. Had to turn it off and on in order to connect. Someone mentioned to edit propbuild. Idk what that means.

You need to go into Setting/CyanogenMod settings/Application, check "Use internal storage" then reboot your phone and it should be back to how it was before.
Betterbatterystats seems to have found some interesting things. Phone on for 1hr and ten minutes.
Under partial wakelocks:
Lightflow: 1hr10m3s
AlarmManager: 58m13s
JuiceDefender:55m44s
There is more ( I can provide screenshot if required ), but those are the top three.
I do find this a little odd. Juice defender was just installed the other day and I can't see how it would cause any problems. Battery was a bit crappy before and didn't get any better/worse. I froze lightflow the other day and battery drain was about the same.
filthyfnj24: Nope no Tango.
I can provide a list of apps if would help as well.

EDIT: upon further investigation I have narrowed down AlarmManager as causing a lot of partial wake locks, but I dont have any alarms set and have not synced my calendar and have the Calendar alerts turned off. However Suspend is showing as a problem as well.
I'm using BetterBatteryStats, SpareParts, and the stock battery manager to try and track this down.
Well, after eliminating Lightflow and turning off Beautiful Widgets small weather, things are improving. Instead of losing 5% per hour on standby, it is now down to about 3%. Juice defender and Alarm manager are still at the top of the list, In 2hrs and 18min I have:
Alarm manager 33m12s
Juice defender 27m56s
So, Juice Defender is next on the list. The funny part is I know that CM7 is causing this. Battery used to last near forever on standby.
Great idea... Stickied. You may also want to check out the atrix-dev-team FAQ and consider suggesting Q/A posts from this thread or links to other posts in other threads, for updates to that FAQ.
Ever since I upgraded from pre-beta 4 to Beta, my phone has had two horizontal deadzone lines on the touchscreen. This persists from ROM to ROM, and is getting to be annoying. I have no warranty, as I bought the phone from a guy who won it in a contest, unlocked it and brought it to another carrier.
Is there any chance that this is a software issue, and can be repaired?
I got it !!!!
Alarm Manager is no longer a problem. Phone now sleeping correctly. I disabled background date, topped off the battery and verified via Betterbatterystats. Now if we could disable background data while it sleeps and re-enable it when you wake it up then we'd be set.

[Q] Swype Battery

Hey guys,
i've searched the forum but cant find a whole lot regarding this topic. Its really more of a "whats your opinion" question rather than a "whats the answer to this" type of question. Anyways, I just started using Swype, thought it was pretty cool but did notice it in the battery usage at a very low percent. Just curious to who uses it and if anyone experiences drain because of it. Thanks guys!
i haven't used swype in a while but i dont recall there being much of a battery drain, unless the latest update causes this.

I am using it and I like it a lot. I am actually using a beta so I have the latest updates. I don't type all day on my phone but I don't feel like it's a battery hog. What drained my battery was the common culprits like my email client checking all the time and so forth. There are treads on battery hogs. Surprisingly, I found that PowerAmp had a nasty habit of doing something even if it was off. Also, programs that you (or at least I) would never think of, like Officesuite, kept doing stuff on their own even though I had only installed them and never used them. I found that a good way of identifying these bad guys is by checking wakelocks in betterbatterystats. cheers.

[Q] SGII CM9 Battery Problem

I flashed CM9 on my GSII on Friday and ever since it's had 5-6 hours on usage. I've tried doing the battery calibration stuff, seemed to be better Monday and today it had 50% after a few hours of gaming so that seemed normal but then i reset it and it dropped down to 10%. I tried calibrating again and still 5 hours.
I've been using that Battery Calibration app and it game me 40% charge at ~3500mV. I'm not sure whether that is the battery volume but seeing as 100% was 4200mV something seems wrong.
Anyone have any ideas?

But I´m still test the slim rom with neal kernel and have 53% battery after 30hs. with a general purpose.-
try it this rom an kernel,.-
As was already pointed out, bad battery life is almost always a rogue app keeping the phone awake, install Better Battery Stats and CPU Spy to monitor wake locks and deep sleep, if you find a problem with an app keeping your phone awake, uninstall it and your problem will likely go away. Personally, I've been running CM9 and other variants of ICS for months and I get less than 1% per hour of drain while the screen is off and the phone is asleep, this is better than Gingerbread was.

Right, but background sync can still hit the battery, even with screen off. I was just curious.
Ive had days with horrible drain but it was almost always an app doing something dumb and keeping the phone awake, bad cell reception or a noisy wifi router. The trick being to identify wake locks that seem suspicious and track them down.

Among a couple of other annoying things this is the biggest issue I have. I think it depends on if I have for example a future reminder sitting in the tray. The often times hangouts don't come in then other times it does..
I have the same issues with the notifications not coming in. It's always been Hangouts when I've noticed it. This didn't happen before the L update, that I noticed at least, but the watch was still pretty new to me.
Force closing is a bit much here lately. Seems like when it does it is hung up syncing or something

Newbie to watch
Hi:
I just got one of these off of ebay. I came from a TOQ, which I liked a lot. I thought I would try a Android Wear device. So far, I am not that impressed. I have 2 main issues: 1) the battery life sucks. I got maybe 6 hours. This makes the watch almost useless. 2) the "tilt to wake screen" feature is not working., which might be affecting (1). The watch is running wear 5.0.1.
Does anyone have any advice on how to make the battery life better? I have read that the old OS had a longer battery life. Do you recommend rooting the watch and putting an older OS on it?
Did you factory reset it? 6 hours? That is not right at all.
Check the battery life in the Android Wear app... that should tell you if some rogue app is killing it too.
Some apps you already have on your phone when you pair the watch will install a wear app on your watch without telling you. Like I Heart Radio and Amazon Shopping.

Well, that really didn't help all that much. I took the watch off the charger around 7am and it would have run out of power at around 4:15 - only ~8hrs. I would like it to do better. I will move this discussion to the Battery Life Discussion.
Thanks.
