hey ma8, in dual boot only the kernel is shared b/w the roms
the apps have to be installed individually for each roms

yes u can keep ur current stock firmware(has to be ICS) as ur primary rom along with Siyah kernel version which supports dual boot (Ex v4.1.5 of siyah) and flash any Custom rom of ur Choice which has to be ICS or JB (do not ask which one though since its against XDA rules!) as ur Secondary rom and see
for backing up of memo u can try some apps from stores and see
I just flashed my phone with the Siyah Kernal...
I have the stock firmware as my primary one ( ICS 4.0.3 ) and i wish to have a CM10 ROM as my secondary ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1794758
As per the above link, since i m doing it for the first time, i hv to flash the two mentioned files from the SD n then hv a factory reset else it will get stuck at boot...
is it so ? do i hv to do that inspite of having that as a secondary ROM ?
I am following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1680851 this thread to enable dual boot ROMs..
pls tell me if i m doing something wrong....
1. Flash Siyah

Siyah 4.1.5 is not compatible with the latest CM10 (JB Mali version) and all JB ROMs based on this build. Therefore Siyah cannot boot it.

I had to do that bro...coz at mid night i was stuck and there was no response on this post.
Anyway, i had downloaded the 6th october build of CM10 from http://www.get.cm/?device=i9100
Like i got to know, the latest build might not be compatible. So, now I am downloading the 1st october build (thats the oldest nightly build available dats y)
Should that be fine ?
It might be. But I'm not a 100% positive. You could try n if you're not able to boot, then download another one of the custom ROMs built with a cm10 base available in the development section for now.until siyah is updated to include the new code.
Alternative is to flash the cm10 ROM and stick with the cm kernel for now.

WanamLite is just stock ROM that's been rooted; and by the way, why have you scribbled out your kernel version?? Everyone on the same ROM as you, has the same kernel version (except those who wish to change) but no personal information can be obtained from a kernel version lol not needed dude lol

this is my wifes phone (I have a Note) I want to know what rom I can go to that is very stable , prefer ics :
Samsung SGH-I777
2.3.6
I777UCKK6
2.3.35.14
GINGERBREAD.UCKK6
sorry but I dont generally mess with her phone , she does have root and cwm touch 5.5.0.4 . There seems to be a wifi problem it turns on and then off , never sticking , I suppose wiping all might help , I hate seeming naive but when I mess with my own phone its all a chance , I dont want to just do that with hers!
There are a lot of stable roms. Do you want touchwiz based or AOSP based? I don't have an opinion on AOSP roms because I've barely used any of them.
For Samsung based roms, Shoman94's roms are very stable and popular. That's what I use as my daily driver. For ICS, use SHOstock2, but for the latest JB use SHOstock3.

When you flash a new ROM you will have to wipe. Also that's caused by using a foreign kernel aka one from galaxys2root.com

If I remember correctly, I think that version of the Siyah kernel was put out by zedomax on GalaxyS2Root website. That kernel combined with UCKK6 was always a problem. In fact, that package was always a problem.
Anyway, the kernel has ClockworkMod Recovery. You should decide on a good rom, as discussed above, download the zip file and use usb to transfer it to the sdcard on the phone, then boot into recovery, perform a wipe data/factory reset, and flash the rom. It doesn't matter that you are on Gingerbread right now. You can flash either an ICS or JellyBean rom because the package will contain the complete system and kernel and modem, everything.
---------- Post added at 07:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:08 PM ----------
Enter recovery by holding down all three of vol + vol - and power buttons continuously until it boots into recovery. If it won't boot into recovery, then it might be a bad flash.
Thank you, I got the siyah kernel from a thread here, when I first got the phone (off ebay )it did in fact have the wrong kernel,I used entropy flash back to get back,I guess I did something else, but I will use one of the roms you mentioned ,glad we have you here ,I've been messing with wp7 the last few years and finally getting back to android (cept been playing with boot loaders in a500)

It is exactly that, a counter, and the only purpose of it as far as we know is warranty protection, so I would say no, it's not important. On the other hand, most folks don't like the splash screen with the yellow triangle, but you can remove that easily enough if you still get it on boot.

I don't also have warranty so the flash counter is not my concern here, getting Shostock3 JB running on my phone is. pls my question is are there any other packages apart from the Shostock3 Rom that i would need to download to enable me flash the Shostock3 Rom?

No. You also need to install a custom kernel that contains ClockworkMod Recovery. Please read through the guide "How to install custom firmware without incrementing the flash counter" (link in sig) because it will help you see how things fit together.

No, just flash Siyah v4 (.tar version) via ODIN. v5 also supports ICS but as far as I remember it had some issues.
ok well the kernel I want to flash is the newest for the galaxy s 2 (siyah v5.0.1) so am I ready to flash or is there anything I need to check or do first? BTW is there a possibility I can brick my phone because my mum won't be happy if I brick it
So what bugs does this kernel have that effects ics because im planning to do a nandroid backup then install cyanogen mod 10.1 jellybean?

You can flash it with Odin. Read about it first, so you won't end up bricking it because you've missed something. But if you follow the correct steps you won't brick it.

Make sure you dont perform and wipes or cleans before flashing siyaah kernal. Your on 4.0.4 ics which the stock kernal that has the brickbug. I repeat be careful not to wipe, clean or backup anything before you install siyaah kernal. After you have, then its all good mate. Good luck.

Hi XDA
At the moment I'm on CM10.1 Nightly 20130507 but I miss some TW features and I want to go back to stock. Ofcourse I googled for some guides and found this one. This guide states that I can use Triangle Away on every rom and that I can flash stock firmware afterwards. On the thread of Triangle Away however, it says that I have to be on stock firmware before using it. Right now, I don't know in which order I shoulld do it.
Should I do a factory reset etc. on CM, then do Triangle Away and then flash stock back or should I flash stock fw, then root, then triangle away and then unroot?
Also, how do I know which firmware I should flash? My IMEI starts with 353, if that's important.
Thanks in advance
Mutn

For now, I really want to go back to stock.
So you want to unroot completely? Er ok.
Well flash a stock based custom rom THEN run triangle away, then flash official stock rom.
Amazing what applying logic can do
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Well I find it akward that I have to flash another custom Touchwiz based Rom before I can do triangle away and flash a stock rom. In the guide I found, someone said you can use the guide no matter what's on your phone...
So then why did you write this thread???
I find it awkward that you miss touchwiz features so instead of flashing touchwiz, you're going to unroot. I can't say I get it.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Well, now I'm on CM. I want to go back to stock rom + unrooted (let's say I need my phone ready for warranty).
So in that guide I found that I can use Triangle Away no matter what's on my phone, but on the official Triangle Away thread, I found that I should only use it on Stock firmware. It's contradictionary.
I'm not convinced triangle away works on my rom. It just says "reset" but on touchwiz roms, it actually reboots.... so not sure its doing anything
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
So can someome please give the steps in the right order to go from CM10.1 to STOCK TouchWiz firmware and to reset binary counter for my warranty?
I did but I'll repeat myself.
Flash rooted touchwiz rom
Use triangle away
Flash official rom
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Okay, I get it. I'll do it soon. But how do I know which official stock fw I have to download? #1234# doesn't work because I'm on a custom ROM.
