Can anyone help me with restoring my Optimus G to completely stock? I want to be able to accept ota updates. I'm assuming I'll need to re flash the stock recovery for sure, but is there a way I can flash a large package like you can on Odin with Samsung phones? Thanks!

There are instructions in the how to root and unlock guide.

Read the instructions he is talking about and get on irc and get a hold of Lgnpst. It works in the same manner of odin just a little different. You can get stock firmware in the dev section. Follow all instructions so you don't end up with a brick.

What is irc?

I was cruising around doing some reading today and found a thread where someone had managed to pull the stock recovery out of an SBF file and replace it with Clockwork. They even made a "recovery only" sbf file and successfully installed it on their phone.
So from what I can gather, this would allow people to flash ROMs, themes, etc. without having to unlock and install a new recovery? You would have Clockwork with a locked bootloader?
Someone shed some light on this for me, please.
I think the bootloader still needs to be unlocked because of the signature verification.

Not so much signature validation, because that is a function of the recovery - but unlocking the partitions to be written too.

Thanks for clarifying, I wasn't quite sure.

I think I understand now, thanks. I was under the assumption that since Motorola are technically the only ones who are creating the sbf files, that they would be trusted by the devices to do as they please. Again, I am just learning here so thanks for whatever info comes about on this.
If anyone is at all interested in the thread I stumbled upon:

^^ there it is. It's dated, but I thought it might hold some ideas(?)
This was done in a way back with the moment. Could use the manufacturers flash tool and flash rooted and unlocked stock based roms

Odin, and still the best way to mod imo

Yeah, I realize it was a bit dated but it seemed like a good way to do things. I would like to see even simple things like deodexed stuff in sbf, but it's not sounding like it's that simple.
my phone is rooted and i just put the stock rom on it (Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_odex.zip) after having a different rom my question is when ICS update comes in 2 weeks (for sprint users in the usa) will the update work and be applied? or will i just get an error?
I believe you will also have to relock your bootloader and install the stock ruu which puts the stock recovery on.
I recommend that you wait until a dev comes out with a custom based off the ota. It will be more awesome.

That Sucks is there any way I could go back to stock stock so I can update threw HTC when released
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
NEVER EVER take an update when you are rooted. Every single guide to rooting tells you this.
There is no need to relock to take the update when it comes out. Just wait about an hour, and someone on here will have a flashable version of the stock rooted rom. Flash it like any other rom, simple as that, no need to worry about bricking.
Well I don't really care about it not being rooted any more

Just find the stock RUU for your phone.
Depending on whether your CDMA or GSM and what carrier.
It shouldn't be hard. Just use the search.
Then follow the instructions to flash it, make sure you have the stock HTC recovery and relock the bootloader.
Your phone will be stock!

Ah, no problem, you should be fine.
When flashing the stock RUU, if done properly, you should automatically get the stock recovery.

I used lgnpst to return phone to factory state, I was initially rooted and unlocked through freegee. I've received 11c and jb update OTA so I'm assuming my bootloader was relocked but I can't boot into anything as power and vol up do nothing. Can anyone verify lgnpst relocks? Thx
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
Yes it does
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
You should be able to use freegee to redo the bootloader unlock. Or use TeenyBin from autoprime's thread. That's the method I used to knock out the required partitions upgrade from the OTA and leave me rooted and unlocked all in one step.

I need to get my phone back to stock rom state. The more I looked around for LGNPST, the more difficult for me to find suitable one for E970. Could you point me to the appropriate download and instructions? I REALLY need this as my radio is messed up and I cannot make any phone calls. Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks!

Your gonna have to look around for it. It can't be posted. There maybe info about it in some OPs. Maybe a quote can hold a tip.

My friend recently got an og and isn't very tech savvy, so he asked me if i could root his for him but the original root method doesn't seem to work for me on JB. Do i need to lgnpst it or is there a way to do it without taking it back?
There is a guide thread with all the answers.

The guide doesn't mention anything about jellybean, and the root method posted doesn't work on JB nor has it been updated since then, that's why i asked on here.

The CurrentRoot method from carrett's guide will root 20j.
That's odd, mine was rooted before the ota so i haven't messed with it on my OG but on the one I'm trying to use it on it only reboots the phone once then goes back to the home screen on the phone. Guess I'll give it a few more tries.

Unlees you are only trying to get to stock rooted it may be easier to just use teenybin.

Yeah, i thought about doing that but he does just want stock rooted. He's just trying to be able to remove the bloat and add custom themes. If i can't get this method to work i might just go ahead and use teenybin anyways. Thanks though!

You would still need to unlock with FreeGee to avoid getting security error when removing bloat. There is a rooted zip for 20j that you could flash after teenybin if you wanted to go that route.

The current method does work on JB. I've done it.
Well, as I've stated, after trying that method 6 times last night but it only reboots once then returns to the home screen of the phone.

Okay guys, so here is the deal. My now is having some issues that may or may not require a return, and I would like to completely return to sick, just in case. I used casual to unlock and root, but how would I relock? I have not been able to find a guide anywhere. Also, how does triangle away work? I was told that I need to use this so that a triangle does not alert them to me unlocking. Noob question I know, but any help is appreciated. Thanks!

check my guide again...I just updated section 1b. We now have a VRAMC3 odin file. Now you can flash back to the latest stock and no need to update. :good:
Dont forget to thank Beanstown, he provided the link!
and yes that will unroot and relock.
OK , last post I promise lol. If I flash back to stock 4.1.1( through twrp) and update, I will be completely stock?

flashing through recovery does not replace recovery which will cause the ota update to fail. If you want to go back to factory stock. simply odin vramc3 in odin and be done.
OK thanks
