Will there be anymore updates after Win 7.8? - Nokia Lumia 800

I recently required a Nokia Lumia 800 as a backup for work, updated it to 7.8, now i'm wondering will we see anymore updates or bug fixes in the future?
I think the main problem with the Lumia 800 is listening music is terrible on this device, when you first listen to a track more so quiet ones there is a distinct clicking sound at the start of the track, plus the volume low aswell and lack of any real bass, my S3 on the otherhand is superb, but the S3 also had that audio clicking when it first was released, which Samsung did sorted out pretty quickly.
Will this get sorted out at all, or have Nokia decided right you've got 7.8 that it for you lot, if you want more updates buy a Windows Phone 8.

[Q] Xperia Neo V or Lumia 710?

Guys, I've got a question
I recently bought a SonyEricsson Xperia Neo V and I'm within the 10 days for return (this friday the period ends) and I've been seriously considering changing it for a Nokia Lumia 710.
Which one is better? Keep in mind I have to keep the phone for 18 months for contractual reasons. I've read reviews on the internet that say music quality sucks..and I've tested it at the store and that's true, but I rarely (if ever) listen to music on my cellphone, as I have an iPod nano for that.
What I'm concerned with is Call quality. I've read complaints about it and... have nokia fixed it? Is it true that the voice sounds muffled on the other side?
Finally...is it possible for that phone to have apps installed outside the Windows Phone Marketplace? I used android and I know that it gets slugish with time, but one of it's advantages is that I can install APKs outside of the google play store.
Anyway, thanks for your time.
You can break WP7. More or less easily but it is possible. Then you can "deploy" apps from outside Marketplace. Just look in the dev forum.
There's dev unlock, interop unlock and full unlock. You interested in the last two .
go for lumia 710...windows phone are way smooth to use and interactive in my personal opinion..!!!!

Keep in mind that Windows Phone 8 will bring fundamental changes to Windows Phone. Although most developers will target as much devices as possible there will be major limitations. For instance will SQLite only be supported on WP8. If you don't need to live on the cutting edge of technology you can go with Windows Phone. However if you want upgradability and a richer Homebrew community you should go with Android. Android is way more open than Windows Phone.

After my disastrous experience trying to update Android 2.1 to 2.3 on a Xperia X8 device (the damn thing got slooooooowwwwww), I think I wouldn't care much about updates. In fact, If I stay with this device (the Neo V) I'd update to ICS 4.0.4, remove the bloatware and stay there, because I don't think the phone would support Jelly Bean or another ulterior android version.
If any of you is a current Lumia 710 user, has Nokia fixed the lack of bass for the audio?
How's call audio quality? Nobody has answered me those 2 questions, which I find rather important.

Keep in mind that lots of people bough expensive Lumia 800 and Lumia 900. Developers won't just drop WP7 support in WP8's favour. That would not pay off and would be irresponsible. They have to update their apps for WP7 as long as WP8 doesn't reach that point in stats, where it stands higher.
So, don't worry about "no update to WP8" and "you'll only get new start screen". You can safely enjoy your smooth mobile OS for a couple of years.
The same actually applies to older Android, but you have to agree that using anything else than ICS (now JB) makes jealous. Older releases were just ugly.
Ok, enough offtopic, you get the point.

Windows Phone 7.8 for Lumia 800

Microsoft confirms Windows Phone 7.8 is coming in "early 2013".
Cast your mind all the way back to June of this year, when Microsoft formally made its first official announcement about Windows Phone 8. At the same event, it disappointed early adopters of its Windows Phone 7 platform by confirming that their handsets would not be eligible for upgrade to the new OS.
But the company also said that it wouldn't leave those faithful users completely out in the cold, promising to deliver an update that would bring new features, including the new-style Start screen, to first- and second-generation devices. But since that announcement, almost nothing has been discussed by Microsoft about Windows Phone 7.8. Until now.
At long last, Microsoft has broken its silence on the 7.8 update. In a blog post, Terry Myerson, corporate vice president for Windows Phone, has now confirmed some of the features that the update will bring, including a greater selection of OS 'accent colours' (20 in total), and improved lock screen features such as the Bing Picture of the Day.
Sadly, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of features here that we haven't heard already - and if you were expecting good news regarding availability, you'll probably want to sit down and pour yourself a drink. Microsoft is commiting to getting the update "tested, approved and rolled out to as many devices as possible in early 2013", so those rumours suggesting it might starting being delivered to devices this week were evidently pretty wide of the mark.
The wording there also implies that not all devices will be updated; we've already had it confirmed by LG that the Optimus 7 won't see 7.8, but it's not yet clear if other devices will join the list of handsets that won't see the OS upgrade. One other device that seems unlikely to see 7.8 is the Dell Venue Pro, a handset that had something of a troubled life before it was finally withdrawn from sale in March of this year. The last update delivered to the Dell Windows Phone was 7.5 Mango.
Myerson also confirmed that new handsets with 7.8 are already beginning to launch, and will continue to do so in order to reach "a range of lower price points"; we've recently seen entry-level devices such as the Nokia Lumia 510 being announced with Windows Phone 7.5, while the Alcatel OneTouch is expected to launch with 7.8 soon.
Evidently, we're still some way from Windows Phone 8 taking over as Redmond's sole smartphone OS.

Yea..and its so freaking annoying that they are just giving us a new start screen and asking us to wait till early next year..!!
When the RTM ROMs are already leaked and they look quiet stable..wdf are MS playing at?
It's not just a home screen, new lock screen, smartglass support and a lot of small fixes like for IE and bluetooth file sharing and etc. WP 7.5 runs very well already,so WP7.8 is just a small fix and MS wants to make it sure, that everything will work even better.
I hope that will improve the performance of Lumia. I bought one a few days ago and I love the simplicity of the OS. And I'm a Android user
Finally, been waiting for few months now......
i hope they will update the firmware, too. especially camera-firmware for Lumia 800. i still have autofocus problems in macro-mode. interesting point is, that with another cam-app like sophiecam, the autofocus DO work, but it acts weird with the native cam-app. so this means, it has to do with software, which i hope nokia will fix with the 7.8 update.

[Q] Touchscreen responsiveness delay?

Hi all, is anyone experiencing this issue with your 920?
To reproduce:
- Power off
- Press power button and immediately swipe up to unlock
Will it unlock after the immediate initial swipe?
Which ROM/Carrier/Country model you have?
Thanks
UPDATE
After personally testing on several phones/brands, can confirm this is not a Nokia specific issue, it's a general issue with Windows Phone 8 (or at least most ROMs).
Phones tested and having this issue:
- Nokia Lumia 920
- Nokia Lumia 820
- Samsung Ativ
- HTC 8x
(all of them have Windows Phone 8)
Phones tested and not having the issue:
- Nokia Lumia 800
- Nokia Lumia 710
- Nokia Lumia 505
- Samsung Focus S
(all of them have Windows Phone 7.5)
This might not be relevant, but also tested on a Galaxy S3 (has the issue) and iPhone 5 (does not have the issue).
So since this is Windows Phone 8 related, I have created a Uservoice topic, please contribute voting so MS can resolve this soon:

Hi pckshd! I tried the same procedure on my Lumia 920 and dident get any problems.
The phone Unlocks as fast as i swipe the finger over the screen direct after pushing the power button.
Info:
Phone/Model - Lumia 920 (RM-821_eu_sweden_235)
Firmware - 1232.2109.1242.1013
OS - 8.0.9903.0
Best regards
Gustav
i too had similar experience. But it gets ok when i keep he mob unused for half an hour. Now i turned my display and touch settings to high and now not much of a problem. so try this.ok.:good:
Stop focusing on the details of life
bro... I tried it on my 920 too, it has the same problem. The problem is that the lockscreen doesn't appear right away after u press the button. If u wait for it to appear and then swipe, then u wont have a problem. I don't think it'll ever get fixed, prob has sth to do with the WP8 architecture itself. Don't focus on those problems, makes u paranoid. when I first got my 920, I always focus on the little things like how the top is not tight so u could press it down, and how the dust gets into the FFC. after a while I came up with the epiphany that no phone is perfect, u just gotta enjoy it and ignore the minor details. I can c that ur a huge wp fan cuz u got the 800. 920 is a big leap from 800, so y not enjoy ur time using it?
hope this helps u

True no phone is perfect but I was kind of used to the 800 responsiveness (and other WPs, different brands), now every time I grab the 920 I feel I have a heavy and laggard thing in my hand, its kind of not letting me be fast and agile with it...
Of course its a powerful beast, just would love to have that thing resolved.

should I buy? + general questions

hey there!
next week I'll buy a new phone, and I think that it's going to be a Nokia Lumia 800...
so I have some general questions about this phone:
is it a good phone, worth buying?
is it lagg free?
are there custom ROMS?
are there bugs on the stock ROM?
can i run android on it?
can i play pokémon on it?(eventualy with an emulator?)
are there a lot developpers for the nokia lumia 800?
can it play music loud?
is the windows app store big? (less, even,or bigger than the android play store?)
(i googled some questions, but the xda-developpers are the most trustable ppl for questions like these)
thanx anyway
is it a good phone, worth buying?
It's everyone's own opinion, but for me, defenitly YES.
is it lagg free?
Ähm... well, yes, WP7 is a very smooth running OS with little hardware requirements. With new 7.8 version, there are sometimes some lags in scrolling, but not really often, and not annoying.
are there custom ROMS?
Yes, But you need to modify your phone to qualcomm bootloader, before you can do this.
are there bugs on the stock ROM?
i didn't realy recognize any, but there might be some. Same with every os
can i run android on it?
No. What for?
can i play pokémon on it?(eventualy with an emulator?)
haha, yes threre's a gbc emulator called "purple cherry", works great
are there a lot developpers for the nokia lumia 800?
many? hm... no, not many too many for wp7 in general, but definitly good ones
can it play music loud?
Yes, with custom rom with removed "volume limit"
is the windows app store big? (less, even,or bigger than the android play store?
way less than android store, but what for? you need quality, not quantity.
There's nothing i'm really missing. so...
I'm happy with my Lumia 800 and it's worth buying. When I unlocked bootloader I won't leave my phone ^_^
There's everything I need and want.
Are there any lags? Of course not. Last time I've experienced a lag (there were 2, maybe 3) was on WP 7.5, but now with 7.8 I almost forgot what lag is ^_^
i'll buy one!
ok, thanks for the (very fast!) answers!
you guys convinced me to buy one!!
thank you so much guys
You're welcome. surely you won't be disappointed, I would never change WP for android.
If you have any questions - ask boldly
update
well, i'm randomly thinking of another question: what is the difference between WP 7.5 and 7.8? and how can we upgrade the luma800 to 7.8?

It's pretty simply. What you need is just to plug your phone on USB to PC and run Zune
Between 7.5 and 7.8 the biggest difference are tiles. On 7.5 you had only two sizes, medium and big and couldn't change their size but now, on 7.8, you can easily make your tile small, medium or big.
In 7.8 there are 20 accents to change colors your tiles and everything to this one you like or your mood is.
Also, in 7.8 there is Bluetooth sharing (which is not avaiable on other phones with 7.8 - it's just for Nokia only but other phones can bypass it ^_^) and Ringtone maker - from Nokia too.
They added Google as a default search (before there were only Bing and Yahoo).
That's the major changes.
thanks
well okay then, again, thank you very very much

I hope they release GDR2 soon without any bugs like HTC.
Please update your findings from new Amber update.
All the sites are claiming August release now for the update due to a twitter post made by Nokia Spain. I can't wait for the update myself. The whole reason I switched from HTC to Nokia was all the rave about Nokia giving you a reason to stay through quality updates. So the ride has been great so far but it would be nice to have radio back and some of the smart cam features would be lots of fun.
Of course....Nokia Spain's announcement of it may not necessarily mean it's the same for the rest of the world and last month all the sites were saying the update was coming in July.
Hopefully it does come out this month.
The FM Radio is nice to have, yeah. Not sure about SmartCam. I think it's a bit overrated and that you may end up using the stock camera as well (no control over flash, video recording on my Lumia 920 with GDR2).
That said, the update is nice.
I have tryed the euro dev rom with amber and french rom with amber.
I'm from argentina and my phone don't connect 4G, so i went back to my old firmware
Good 4G for me
Using the method that was found on XDA on my ATT and its working great so far, I just got the update for the peak today and now I have wifi tethering so needed that one.
It is said that Amber with GDR2 will release from today, 30 countries and regions included in the first batch, and 3 days later second batch.

Thanks,my friend above!
I can't post with a link even in a quote, and the limit is so strict...
I have Amber installed (by official OTA) for 2 hours, I like all the stuff nokia added to our phone DDDDDDDD
Cant find my way around two features...
The new camera effect that lets me take 10 pictures, how do I use it? And I've been through the full settings list, and cant find anything about the new lock screen (double tap, standby screen, hover hand over to turn it on).
Can anyone confirm if bluetooth 4.0 is present in this update?
Glance. Enable it. Make sure you select "timed" option. Lock device. You'll see the standby clock. Wave hand directly over device. Should be in display + touch in settings. A little reading wouldn't hurt either
Sent from my Nokia Lumia 920 using Tapatalk
Bluetooth 4 is present in this update
Battery life is improved
Whats app and other notification improved
I have a developer device and still waiting for OTA update.
still no update. why does it always last so long?? is anyone still without GDR2??
Finally got it for my unbranded Lumia 920. Those are some very welcome features
