[Q] The BEST network settings for x10

I currently have a 10mb/month data plan allowance which I'm using for WhatsApp IM. The app itself has only used around 1 mb total over a couple of weeks, so thats all good.
However, once I activate 3g, other apps and services also automatically start using data. If I let this happend my usage will surpass my 10mb allowance in no time, and I will have to pay extra (I live in a country where data plans are crazy expensive).
So now I ask you: What are the best settings for making sure those other apps cannot use data, but that only WhatsApp can? Are there any apps to regulate this? Also, is it possible to create profiles (when I'm on wifi I obviously don't mind that other apps use the internet)?
Thanks in advance! By helping me you will save me a lot of hard earned money!
10mb plan? WTF pathetic plan.
My best guest would be to search around for a firewall app.

Like stated in the first post, the price for data plans in my country is way too high so I had to pick the cheapest one. When I'm at home I have wifi anyways so this is only for on the go WhatsApp chatting. Changing the data plan is not an option.

THANK YOU! After googling a little I found this:
"Droidwall - Android application firewallRequiring you to root your Android device, DroidWall is designed to protect users who don’t have unlimited or at least generous data plans with their mobile networks from applications that habitually connect to the web to exchange information.
Cleverly, this app can tell the difference between Wi-Fi access and cellular data – as such it is able to permit all data transfer via Wi-Fi, requiring apps to be added to a whitelist in order for them to access the cellular data network.
Available free via the Android Market and AppBrain.com, note that DroidWall can only be installed on a rooted device."

[Q] Is there any application to allow me access my phone from web?

I've been searching around for a while and the only one is http://remotephoneaccess.com .
Is there any other application or WEB interface for remotely access my android? I need something like that every time when i forget the phone in my car or somewhere else, just to see who called and SMS or if i lose it.
Due to the nature of NAT, you'll need to do this via push from the phone to a server that can be "seen" from anywhere on the Internet, then pick up that info from said server. There is no way to route TCP/IP directly to your phone without access to the carriers' infrastructure. The app you link to takes a different tack: SMS (not TCP/IP) which can uniquely identify and trigger your phone from anywhere.

[Q] Apps from the US in Europe

I'm moving to France from the US. When I get there, I'll probably get a new Android phone (unless Win8 looks enticing enough).
My questions are...
- When I log onto this new Android phone with my same gmail address, and presumably be connected to France or Europe's Google Play, will I have access to ALL the apps I have now? Will some become unavailable to me? What about my purchased ones? If they're to be lost, any way to get those .apks now?
- What will happen to my purchased ebooks on the nook app and the Amazon Kindle app?
- Is there any way that I can access the US Google Play while in Europe? Is there such a thing as proxy servers for mobile phones?
Thank you!
No you will not loose any of your app
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.
Also you can use market enabler app to get access to any App region. Vpn networks can also be used for ex. Vpn reactor

Would btguard work? I already pay for them.
Also, just so you guys know, I've now moved here and via my Android account on my new European phone I lost a bunch of apps that were I guess only exposed to the US including the b&n nook app. But I got the .apk off my old phone.

[Q] How to use Desktop/Laptop to send/receive Whatsapp messages?

I've been looking high and low for something that can achieve what is mentioned here, but to no avail. I would like the ability to send/receive messages directly from my Desktop without having to touch my phone (something similar to AirDroid, though unfortunately it only supports SMS).
AirDroid claimed they were able to make it work, though it requires root and other permissions that may infringe privacy rights. this leads me to believe that a similar software should exist.
any recommendations? please don't suggest emulators/BlueStacks - as the experience is suboptimal, and/or one would be required to have a separate phone number or sign out from the phone service in order to use it exclusively on the desktop.
Thanks in advance for your help!
I know you said not to mention emulators but you can use a emulator and change the IMEI and MAC Address to the same ones on your phone, then download whatsapp and you will then be able to use whatsapp on both, emulator & phone at the same time.

I was going to say Bluestacks, but you said no emulators. And when you mentioned AirDroid it reminded me of something else, TeamViewer. I use TeamViewer to control my phone from the PC and vice versa (yes you can, in case you didn't know). But you need to install the main TeamViewer app, then the TeamViewer QuickSupport app, then the QS Addon for your specific device. Then you can control your phone from the PC and use WhatsApp.

I actually downloaded it to both and kept switching between them, so can you please tell me how do you change the IMEI and MAC Address on Bluestacks?

I don't really know how to change it on bluestacks but I know that 2 devices with same MAC Address can receive messages, and if they were same IMEI too they both will be able to send messages on whatsapp.

the reason why I mentioned no emulators (and similarly, no VNC-like service.. even teamviewer falls under the same category) is that the performance is pretty bad, regardless of how high end your desktop specifications or network connection is (i.e. it can never reach something like 50fps smoothness).
preferably a native app built for this very purpose - welcoming more suggestions!
thanks!
Fantastic idea
I am currently not sure if this is possible due to constants of the What's app service linking to phone numbers.
However, if there was a tool that can apply iMessage like functionality to What's App I would definitely download it.

Arjun

it is 100% possible because AirDroid has achieved that before, but didn't allow it due to security vulnerabilities.
anyone got a suggestion please?

There are many security apps for android that do just what you want that people put on their own phones to find it when it has become lost or stolen. The best options may likely be paid apps but you definitely get what you pay for.
The most secure versions that I have seen are installed on a "rooted" phone where they can be installed to the system partition of the Android OS and remain hidden and unaccessible to the user. When installed this way I think that even a factory reset will not remove them where as all apps added normally will be wiped out.

Many parental control tools can be used by you such as iKeMonitor. This software can record text messages, phone calls WhatApp and websites visited and it runs in total stealth mode. You don’t have to worry you kid will detect because it’s hard to find out. You can have a free trail.
Key loggers are against the law in many places and as such against the rules. Thread closed
